Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction!! This was actually recorded a while ago but was pretty hard for me to edit it. This movie really broke me towards the end, but I am so happy to see Brendan Fraser got an Oscar for his performance!! It was truly incredible to see! I will see you tomorrow for a more lighthearted film, The Book of Life!!
me too. he's my favorite actor from the 90s and 00s.
The Book of Life is great!!!
Hey nick love that timotheereacts and you did a movie reaction to the whale today😆😆 oh and tim do a movie reaction to elvis🎸❤😊👍
The Book of Life is a lot like Coco!
Yes the book of life its such a great movie.
Please react Burton Batman
The fact that people actually boycotted this movie saying it was "fat shaming" really shows how so many people missed the point. This isn't fat shaming, it's a very realistic portrayal of major depression and an eating disorder and extreme family drama.
Amen
The people boycotting have never seen it. Which is very common amongst "boycotters" in general.
@@Psychedelicgothicpinkyeah people are goofy, but that one is a little more understandable as for why some would misunderstand it.
the point of Irreversible was to linger and not allow the audience to escape the r@pe scene, instead of making a unrealistically dramatic spectacle of the crime like most films do or shying away to spare us the pain. they wanted us to feel violated without moving the camera or cutting the scene once, which is ambitious but understandable why some feel that it’s pointless misery. especially since violence having no purpose and nothing ever coming of it is also a theme of Irreversible.
but The Whale is hardly offensive to anyone. it’s a very compassionate and understanding movie when it comes to the characters, and even though it is harsh there aren’t many people who dislike it once they see it. Even my aunt who never watches movies and hates symbolism in movies understood that “the Whale” refers to people’s problems and the hunt to kill the whale, and not Brendan Fraser being fat.
Think we all knew this movie would break Nick. But I’m so glad you enjoyed this movie so much!
This movie would break anyone.
Knew it was a play and balled😢. So proud! Very award worthy! 💧
Dude I felt so much pain watching you cry especially at 28:39😭😭❤️ Your level of empathy is something I admire so much man✊✊
I appreciate that so much!!
I really love how they use obesity in this film to portray grief, lack of self-love, self-respect, being depressed, they give us different kinds of pain through the characters, its very human and its perfect the scale is so small makes it much more impactful :) brilliant performances from everybody :) if you would like to watch a similar movie to this you should check out The Father for which Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar :)
The father absolutely broke me, I can never watch it again
The boyfriend didn't have a disease. He was so distraught that he ended up starving himself to death. That's why Charlie's anguish is presenting itself as OVEReating and the same reason why a registered nurse (the starving boyfriends sister) is still okay giving Charlie food.
Thanks so much for letting me know! Towards the end of the video I figured out the boyfriend did commit suicide, but didn’t realize it was by starving himself!
@@nickflix8657 well to be fair your interpretation about her saying "he would have jumped off that bridge a long time ago" is probably right as far as actually committing suicide. I read it as "he would have killed himself long before if you didn't give his life a little light before the end". Regardless there's a definite parallel between the boyfriend starving himself and Charlie eating himself to death after his boyfriend passed.
@@ItsMeBarnaby yeah, if you read my comment above you I already corrected myself.
Charlie being so positive even to the people who treat him horribly is one of the most heartbreaking thing in this movie
The way he keeps apologizing is what breaks my heart
I cried. Sadie Sink is such an underrated actress and she's just so damn stunning 😍. She plays those sassy sarcastic non filter characters so well. This movie is about a father's true love for his daughter and it's just so perfect.
When she says " daddy please" it broke me, literally fell apart. I love this movie.
I actually heard that Brendan Fraser won an Oscar award last night. I’m really happy that he did. He’s been in many films such as The Mummy franchise, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Furry Vengeance, George of the Jungle, and the very underrated Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
A very fun movie Brendan Fraser was in was BLAST FROM THE PAST.
I’ve never seen that but I’ve heard of it. Same with another film that he was in called Encino Man.
Dont forget "with honors"
I never heard of that one
@@GunnarBarker its great costars with Joe pesci
This movie is absolutely brutal but showcases just how addiction can be so debilitating not only to our bodies but to our relationships. I don't think I could watch it again but I'm glad I did once. Brandon Fraisure is something else, so glad he won an award for this incredible performance.
I saw this in theaters and it broke me in about 400 different ways. My own father was unhealthy like this and he died due to complications from it. This movie is like a dagger through the heart. I appreciate your heartfelt reaction.
This is such a great & emotional movie. And I’m soo glad Brendan won an Oscar for this. He definitely deserved it
Definitely agree!!
I had a lot of mixed feelings with this movie. I cried at three different scenes and I felt SO BAD for Charlie, but at the same time I understood exactly all of Ellie's feelings. It was hard to watch but Brendan Fraser was phenomenal in this. I cried when he won the Oscar yesterday. He truly deserved it. And of course, Sadie was amazing too.
Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. I was really hoping you would 🥺💜 Love your videos as always, Nick. 😁
As soon as he started floating at the end I knew he was gone 😢
I hope Brendan Fraser gets a oscar for this performance he definitely deserves it.
He did win an Oscar
@@camilastan1205 he definitely deserves it after that performance has to be one of the best films he's been in.
hey Nick. first of all, amazing reaction as usual. I wanted to give some insight (as a fat person myself who has a chronic illness) as to why Charlie might not have wanted to go to the hospital. it's not *just* because he wanted to save the money, though that was certainly part of it. going to the hospital as a fat person is just a nerve-wracking experience and it takes a lot of mental and emotional strength just to get through one appointment, let alone having to go multiple times. ya know how Charlie always says "sorry" to everything as if he is just apologizing for existing? that's pretty much my experience at the doctor. you're often made to feel like you're an inconvenience to everyone around you and it can be quite disheartening. he was lucky to have Liz, a friend he trusted, to care for his medical needs with no judgment. anyway, I hope you're having a great day Nick ❤
Thanks so much for that insight! Really appreciate you and everyone else in the comments for helping me understand Charlie and even Ellie better!
@@nickflix8657 you are quite welcome! thanks for listening and having empathy for everyone. you're a gem ❤
you are amazing, just know the hospital WILL NOT judge u EVER, they are there to help, thats what they are there for. Other people outside the hospital have their thoughts, good or bad but you shouldnt care about them as they will judge anyone for anything. You still have an amazing heart, if you feel you might need to go to hospital but wont because of mental and emotional reasons, think about your family or friends or what your younger self might say. If you go you may be so so proud of yourself for going and physically be healthier coming out of it. Hope all goes well in life you seem lovely. Just a reminder you are beautiful inside and out - your beauty doesnt come from what size you are, size only matters when your health is in danger, even though stupid people in life may say its bad to be fat - no its not (you can eat what you want and be friends with whoever you want - whatever makes you happy and healthy important ) - you probs wont even see this lol.
Man, I watched this movie the other day and I was just floored and broken. Brandon really does deserve all the attention he's getting. Is performance is amazing. And that ending broke me down to tears. So movie. Great reaction nick!
The daughter has a lot of pain in her heart, and grew up with it. Everyone has their own experiences and deals with pain differently. I try to remember that whenever anyone acts like an asshole, they weren't born that way, life shaped them into who they are.
Right? Everyone is so harsh towards the daughter. She's young, she's heart broken and she coped with anger. It's not that hard to understand, people should have more empathy for her life experience.
@Bel Unfortunately people have a hard time understanding mental issues. Being morbidly obese is a physical thing that people can see, but the mental issues people deal with aren't physically visible. It's something that's frustrating to deal with as someone with mental issues, people always say they understand while not understanding at all.
Hey bud can't watch it yet as I still have to watch this movie but wanted to leave a comment for you and tell you that you are doing an amazing job! Keep up the hard work!
So happy you reviewed this movie! Even better you had no idea what it was about going in. Brendan Fraser did gain some weight for the film, but also has a fat suit on, so it was also a huge procedure for the makeup team. Love your videos Nick and so happy it seems you are doing better.
It also won the Oscar for Best Makeup!
Nick, I’ve never seen a person cry more in one reaction, and I want to thank you for doing this reaction, I see it had an impact on you, and it’s a change compared to other reactions I’ve seen
Tell you a story, I watched this in cinema, and me and another bloke spat out the food we where eating when that binge eating scene came on screen
This is one of the most personal family stories movies I’ve ever seen
A24 is honestly one of the best production companies out there. They have a well-earned reputation for embracing creative freedom
I saw this film in theaters and i was left in tears at the end too. I probably wouldn't watch this film again though because it's so unpleasant and heartbreaking I just can't.
Out of all the reaction videos for this movie...this one was the one i was looking 4...the surge of raw emotions that hit me after it was revealed that it was his daughter's essay he was clinging on to all this time... it just broke me into shattering shaking tears
I am so happy for Brendan Fraser, I grew up watching his movies (Encino Man, George of the Jungle, Dudley Do Right, the Mummy franchise, Bedazzled...etc.) and I am so so glad to see him doing and feeling better. Thank you so much for reacting to his film - I hope you check out more of his work!
Brenden really deserved this Oscar.
When he was a huge money maker, he got black listed cause he spoke out about his harassment by one of the Hollywood Press, then he got into an bad divorce which he couldn't afford and on top of all that he broke his back from doing his own stunts.
I'm glad he is alive to recieve his accolades. Also this is another traumatizing movie under Requiem for a Dream.
He got blacklisted, because he spoke out about being SA’d by a director or producer or something, it didn’t have to do with the Press.
What a masterclass on self-hate and self-destruction. He feels such deep pain and guilt because he believes he ruined his life and the lives of those he loves, and so he just doubles down and spirals.
This movie is about addiction, at least for me, it can happen to many of us who get so addicted that even though it’s killing us we can’t stop. We also don’t want to hurt those around so we isolate ourselves and those who “act” like they can help can get fed up and leave. I have talked to so many others that like myself saw this movie and are striving to stay clean or change eating habits and that is just BEAUTIFUL. This movie was just absolutely magical!! I am so proud of Brendan ❤❤
I always love your honest and raw reactions to films like this, and that you're not afraid to be emotional on screen. It is very refreshing! This movie made me bawl at the end so I completely understand the overwhelming emotions. Fantastic movie though, I'm so glad Brendan won multiple awards for his performance! I think Hong Chau definitely deserves more recognition for her performance too.
Brendan really deserved that Oscar. I've always believed he was sn excellent actor and this proved it.
from what I read, Brendan Frasor is a SA Survivor and Hollywood boycotted him. Happy he made an appearance in a movie, he's such a great actor and deserves more. This movie made me cry
Think you should watch the movie thirteen. Just so you can get a good grasp on what seeing a teen girl acts like. It funnily enough does represent werewolf-style aggression. This movie is spot on for eating issues, you know not knowing when to stop, bottled up emotions you have as a general human being, feeling disgusted with life. So I'm glad Brendon got the award and just glad he's back into the business because I think he killed this type of role.
I'm so glad you watched this, this is such a good movie and it hits close to home for me personally and it does make alot of others tear up like that's how beautiful it is
the daughter ellie the actresses name is sadie sink, she was fantastic in this movie, and i mean that how she acts, this just shows that she's an amazing actress
I love the Irony of Charlie's lover starving to death in his final moments, while Charlie ate himself to death. His heart literally could not handle the pain.
Ellie's anger was just a well crafted cover for the little girl inside who likely spent all those years wondering why Charlie didn't/couldn't stay. Ellie had empathy. She just feared showing it because of how painful acknowledging the sadness would have been. I don't think she didn't want connection with Charlie. Just the opposite actually. I think she only said she didn't care because that was easier than recognizing the hole his absence left in her soul.
Your empathy and humanity shines through the screen so vibrantly. Loved your reaction. 🤘🔥❤️
Damn every single moment in this film really hits me hard, Like after a intense scene you think it's gonna be kind of fine but it just gets more and more worse, This movie is so messed up, I Mean it is the most heart breaking movie ever made but this is so digging into Much deeper and darker territory and it's just so much to take to watch.
I was crying so hard at this movie too. 😭You put the feelings into words. Just subscribed!
I think nick you didn’t seem to grasp how broken Ellie is, she has no friends, her dad abandoned her when she young, and she literally talked about how her mom would pop sleeping pills like tic tacs. So she had a broken and horrible home life and then school was probably just as worse. Why do you think she hates everyone? Because she feels everyone hates her, so she puts up walls to not feel because if you tell yourself you don’t feel anything enough then it doesn’t hurt when people let you down. Things are simple, yes she did shitty things but I don’t think it’s fair to rag on her. Everyone in the movie is going through something and handling it in a different way. Just wanted to put that out there. But this movie made me cry so much as I relate to both Ellie and Charlie so much.
Thanks so much for helping me understand a bit more about Ellie! Definitely get in the beginning I ragged on her a lot but I did feel a lot for her as well, especially that last scene. But I think just as someone who doesn’t really have personal experience to Ellie’s situation, it definitely made it a lot harder to understand some of the horrible stuff she did.
This was beautiful reaction Nicky keep up 😢
I can relate . I also hate showing myself. You can tell by my videos . Also with two kids who's mom took away. I'm trying to fix myself though. It's just hard when you're poor and society sees you as a wasteful virus
The "fat suit" Brendan wore was supposed to be hollow but Brendan insisted the suit weigh as much as Charlie was supposed to weigh so his performance would be completely authentic.
You are correct. In the end he dies and its implied that he goes to heaven. This is one of those films that is good but you can never watch again. Brendan Frasier deserves the reward he got!
I’ll definitely keep listen to the ost.
I missed your reactions to heavy cinema, Nick, and thank you for this one. I sobbed at a small early screening of this film here in LA without any shame, and seeing you reacted to this flick was a heavier comfort.
When i first heard about this movie I didn’t watch any trailers. I knew Brendan was in it and that’s all i needed to watch it. From the photos i swore i thought this was gonna be some kind of underwater movie taking place in a submarine
This was hard to watch, Nick. After it was over, I had looked up the origins and I’m actually glad that it’s not based on a true story, because it’s realistic af.
Such an emotional movie! Thank you so much for reacting to this 💖
Wow, I am in awe of your empathy! Instant subscribe! I wish more people showed their empathy so unapologetically as you ❤
Kia ora, love from New Zealand
There's a reason he won the Oscar for this
You have the sweetest voice In the whole world. Ellie is actually the most complex character.
I really thought the Oscar would go to Austin Butler for his performance in Elvis but it's good that Brendan Fraser earned it in his return to acting
So excited to cry with you Nick!!!
Yes he had a heart attack in front of Ellie and died right there. That shit killed me bro, your reaction made me cry again.
I can't watch this review personally, Im sending you love and support, your kindness and empathy always warms my heart and makes me cry too . ty for being you
Brendan Fraser won the Oscar for Best Actor in this movie!
So well deserved!
I love how emotional you are ❤ and embrace it too because men don’t like to show emotions
Bro…thank you, thank you for such an honest reaction…this movie was tough to watch but the reason ppl watch reactions like these is to see if others felt the same as we did first watching…well done 🙏🏻
Brendan Fraser deserves an award for this. It's good to see he is doing well in his acting after all these years.
Honestly I’ve never ever cried during a movie before
If this movie taught us anything, it's that sometimes, the people that we want to help are the people that aren't willing to help themselves... and it's a crushing reality when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it.
Also, I should mention this - the person that plays the younger version of Ellie is Sadie Sink's sister (try saying that three times!), Jacey.
As always I thank you for doing what you do. Fraser deserved the Oscar he got for this. A film I've seen that's very emotional is Swing Kids with Christian Bale. One word that describes this film is tragedy.
Nick… I hope you know how much of an amazing person you are. Honestly. I wish I had met you in person.
This movie is like The Green Mile. One of those great movies that you're glad to have seen, but can't watch again. At least not for a long time.
I get really sad seeing him cry watching a movie in general but seeing him cry a lot in this movie made me want to give him a hug ❤😭❤😭❤
The Whale was a fantastic comeback for Mr. Brendan Fraser! I'm very happy that he won the Oscar for Best Actor. He absolutely deserved it and it was the perfect comeback! I am really excited to see what the future will hold for this talented and wonderful actor.
Brendan Fraser broke my darn heart with this movie. He was just phenomenal.
The way you said “everyone” at 19:47 was so sweet 🥹
Man this movie was so emotional I crying many times
39:19 he went to heaven😊
The actor of the daughter is Sadie sink!!!
Maxineee
This is a great reaction. Wish more people weren't afraid to showcase their emotions 💯makes it 10x better
Love this one! Brendan Fraser has done so many great movies like Encino Man, Blast from the Past, With Honors, George of the Jungle, The Mummy trilogy, Journey to the center of the earth, etc. Hey Nick, have you ever seen Fly Away Home? It's a wonderful family movie. I haven't found a reaction to it on here yet. Give it a look 😊
I think I cried more then you OMG Amazing film and great reaction 10 out of 10. Love your content such AMAZING work
Incredible Movie! Another heartfelt reaction Nick - the ending really sticks with you bro' -
loved your reaction brother. I needed a good cry tonight, sucks crying alone
that nurse deserves to have her license revoked for enabling him. she essentially killed him.
Oh, boy. As soon as I saw this title, I wondered how many boxes of tissues you had at hand.
You have to watch George of the Jungle after seing this, it's a very funny movie from Brendan Fraser. I'm so happy he won the Oscar fater all what happened to him. Glad you enjoyed the film too
This is the first movie in years that broke me
The movie was done in a 4:3 ratio to make the audience feel more claustrophobic, when Fraser filled the screen.
I think this is the first movie I've seen that showed binge eating disorder.
31:56 i really dont blame that pizza guy, i would feel guilty for giving a man so much unhealthy food and then see that he is not good.
I think the pizza guy was distraught of how Charlie looked like, judging him fast, not because he's giving him junk food.
I'm pretty sure debt in the U.S. doesn't transfer after death unless it's a shared debt or you sign agreeing to pay it.
Thanks for letting me know!
Brendan Fraser did a fantastic job in this film😁🔥🔥. I adored his performance. He deserved the Oscar for leading actor in male and he got it🤩😆
This film is directed by the same man who directed requiem for a dream you should definitely check out a few more of his movies like the wrestler
31:17 I don't blame you at all for being broken by that line delivery and the many other sad moments in this movie. The minute I heard that line in the trailer, I knew I wouldn't be able to watch it anytime soon. It can come off as even more tragic when you remember exactly why Brendan Fraser stepped out of the limelight for a while. So happy and proud that he's back and got an Oscar for this performance; screw Rotten Tomatoes for only giving this a 65% 🥺🥹
Edit: 35:15 I caught that basically right as you did, Nick! When I tell you I wanted to smack that smirk off her face so bad...😤🤬
0:58 Yeah, he is also the one who made Requiem For A Dream and Black Swan.
everything everywhere all at once GOTTA be next!!!!
I saw this movie at the theater on my birthday
Man if u haven't seen the mummy movies u should, just all around fun movies.
I really wish for you to watch everything everywhere all at once, it’s such a good movie!
Incredible and fantastic movie, and great reaction Nick.
Brendan didn’t take that much of a break from acting. He was also in the DC HBO Max streaming show Doom Patrol as Robo-Man.
this is the best video ever,. because that movie it such so emotions and Incredibles movie and I Like your face it just really so sad and you doing well your watch and my Heart just feeling you did and I like you men. making best video. What a beautiful film!
I'm looking forward to watch the whale with my family in time.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Believe it or not, Thomas is a trope subversion.
Typically in queer cinema, a character like him is put in the movie so they can see for themselves how narrow-minded that view really is. Sometimes it goes further and has them realize they're gay themselves. Sometimes they become one of the biggest allies you'll ever meet. But it all comes down to the same thing: they were wrong, and decided to fix it.
Thomas, and if we're being honest, the whole movie, subverts this trope by reminding people of reality: as much as we'd like to believe otherwise, people like that don't change.
I was really shocked by Thomas' trope subversion. It was awful. I guess I stupidly thought that if he really were homophobic, he either wouldn't be coming around so much or he would have openly told Charlie he thought being gay was wrong and it had killed Alan, way before that last scene. It's scary to think that there are so many people like that out there who secretly hold that bigoted judgment in their hearts and look down on LGBTQIA people without directly saying so.
i really think a lot of people in charlies condition, like eating themselves to death, its a form of suicide, like the way they don't seem able to snap out of it, its the way they cope with life, and in a sense we cant force people like that to change. its sad, but also I personally think its interesting the amount of freedom we have, the ability to lose the spark to live
