- I compared my M3 Pro with my other computers ( m1 air, m1 pro and RTX 4080 DESKTOP) . Clasroom scene, default resolution, GPU render, 1920x1080 and denoise open. please test and share your results!
( I am aware that this is not a scientific and detailed test. Rather, I was curious about the comparison and there was no such comparison at that time, so I wanted to share it. Apple M3 Pro is a very nice computer and overall I am very satisfied. But I wanted to draw attention to the difference between desktop and laptop for designers who will deal with 3D. )
Did you turn on Metal RT and are you using Blender 4? M3 Max will be about 20 seconds then, I think it's quite impressive considering those chips just launched and raytracing might not be fully optimized.

The M3 Pro has 150 GB/s of memory bandwidth, which is probably a huge bottleneck. You are forced to go for a M3 Max with 300 GB/s if you want actual performance.

@@blissful4992 I'm not happy by the fact that I need it for iOS development. And I can confirm that my old raedon gpu in my main dev machine is way faster. But in this particular case the issue was the bottleneck I think... which does support your claim of it being crappy :P

Interesting results.
So an RTX 4080 is 5 times as fast as Mac.
That means if a Blender animation takes 36 minutes on 4080, it would take 3 hours on the Mac.
Wow! RTX 4080 and 4090 are the tools used by serious Digital Artists.
Friendly reminder: It's a laptop. If you want performance, deskop devices are your friends, but for a portable or complementary workstation, not bad. Perhaps is the first mac wich consider "average-good" for certain 3d task.
As always, the fun point is the price.

Even the top of the line Mac Studio or Mac Pro come with Apple's home-brew GPU. NVidia RTX 4090 offers hugely better performance, and for less money too.
Professionals using Blender or Maya do not use Macintosh. It is too week.

Apple fanboy is American nonsense. I live in Turkey. Because it was cheap, I bought the RX 7900 xt, which is equivalent to the RTX 4070 Ti-4080. I get almost the same speeds. I use it for cad cam applications and gaming purposes.
@@blissful4992 There is no such thing as a laptop with RTX 4090 GPU. Typical nvidia marketing strategy and a big lie. RTX mobile corresponds to RTX 2060 with the performance it offers. RTX 2060 is not a technology released in 2024. We can also see this in the difference between desktop and mobile 4090 GPUs. While ad102 is used on the desktop side, ad103 is preferred on the mobile side. Laptops have mediocre voltage regulator modules, mediocre capacitors. Don't have high expectations for a 150-watt graphics card embedded into the motherboard.
Comparing laptops to desktops of course desktop is faster but working on the road vs stuck at the office

How many GBs of RAM is sufficient for using Blender on Macbook M3 Pro?
This is biased towards the Nvidia chip, because the M3 Max chip was left out on purpose. Try again pitting the M3 MAX chip (it’s a Mac laptop) against the Pc with Nvidia chip mentioned in this video (It’s not a laptop, it’s a desktop, heavy and loud). The Apple laptop defeats the Pc-Nvidia in most tasks, and comes pretty close in the rest. Only in heavy-duty gaming the Pc-Nvidia beats clearly the new Apple chip. Conclusion. Buy the Pc-Nvidia if you are a games. If you are a content creator now you can work with a Mac. This new Mac chip is a deal-breaker.

This isn't correct, whatsoever. Form factor is mostly irrelevant as with intensive rendering, your computer will not be moving much at all, so portability is a moot point (laptops with mobile 4080/4090s exist as well). 4080 will still beat out M3 max/ultra in any GPU bound task (rendering video in DaVinci Resolve or models in Blender) with a 200% improvement in performance. You do not want to do any long intensive rendering on a laptop because it will have terrible thermals and be forced to thermal throttle to avoid damaging its own components.
The M3 will destroy a Windows PC on CPU bound applications, (Aftereffects, Lightroom exports, etc.).

Hey, it's not saying that one is better than the other. I have a desktop, and now I'm considering a laptop. So this is a good way to tell me how much slower I should expect the latptop to be compared to my desktop. I'll still get the laptop, but it's good to know what to expect.

@@appleman7791 that's the exact thing that he's talking about, its the m3 max, then you get the 300 dollar upgrade, the 16cpu/40gpu and 128 GB unified, and the result will be the same.
My new G16 laptop with the 4090 gets 12.7 second. My M3 max 40 core 20:36. They are close ! I expected much more difference. In Webgl more basic stuff the difference is bigger (G16 is 2.5 times faster on shadertoy)
