- Ducati have updated their middleweight Panigale for 2020, although it's not really a middleweight at all with 153bhp on tap! See how Michael Neeves got on with the bike at its world launch at the Jerez circuit in Spain.

Traded my V4S for this bike and am delighted with the change. It really does feel like it’s in the perfect goldie locks zone of power and agility. Turned 8000 miles on it so far and seem to love it more every ride. I find it surprisingly comfortable too - I’m 6’2” and routinely do 300 mile days on it with minimal stiffness. Just such a great bike on track and on the street.
Why v2 is better than v4s ? In what way?
@@samj923 probably because the v4 is a bit intimidating, a difficult to ride fast or slow for many riders. It's full beast where as this is not a beast at all.
@@solo_dingo good 👍
I took the v2 Panigale out today and found it really uncomfortable to ride and abit underwhelming then took a v4 street fighter out straight after it and absolutely adored it. Obviously a personal preference thing but I felt like the sound was like a 125 with a big exhaust on it from the V2 where as the V4 was brutal. I’m yet to try a street fighter v2 as I think that would be the perfect bike for me
@@jbish1479 I admit I’m a bit of a rare animal in that I can be quite comfortable on a sport bike. But I think your instincts are correct that the V2 Streetfighter would be amazing for the street. I had a first gen V4 and I know Ducati has tuned it more and more for the street with each generation, so it’s likely a better street bike now. But for me at least you just can’t open up the V4 in most non-track situations, whereas the V2 can be stretched out a bit closer to legal speeds. If I had a Ducati dealership close to me still I’d have a V2 Streetfighter in my garage for sure. Anyway, good luck in your search. So many great Duc’s.
Great to know that Ducati didnt give up on V2 engines.
Sounds beautiful.
L2
@@heh2k L2 is a different name for V2 to distinguish it from other manufactures names.
@@motomehanicar459 Suzuki do them do too. DL and TL line of bikes.
@@ThiefOfNavarre Yes but not sports bikes, only touring machines.
I want this bike so bad. I’m trying to watch every video about that is out there
Me to 😍
Same bro
Ducati really killed the game
V4 is undisputed flagship supersport king and now the V2 is shaping to look like the best middleweight supersport in the segment
I think the Aprilia RS 660 is going to steal some twin cyl sports bike sales ... whenever it finally shows up ... ugh. It'll be cheaper and slower, but looking to be a fun machine!
xorbe2 it’s not in the same class tho Aprilia RS 660 is a sports tourer with APRC not a supersport it’s pretty much evident from the way Aprilia set the motorcycle up but being an Aprilia it’ll be quite fun on some windy roads but definitely not a direct competitor to middleweight supersport.
I think Ducati supersport SS might be a better rival than the V2 for the RS 660
@@xorbe2 Supersport bikes in general are kind of dead, that Aprilia will probably flop because people just don't want middleweight sports bikes any more. Ducati can still sell these "middleweight" bikes because they're not middleweights at all they're pretty close to liter bikes.
Used to be that supersports and superbikes were very different beasts, with the supersports being light and nimble and the superbikes bigger and heavier, a lot more expensive and not any faster at B road riding because of the worse low speed handling. But modern superbikes are just as light and nimble as supersports, and supersports cost almost as much as superbikes so it's basically just a couple thousand quid difference (not a huge amount when you're already paying like 14k) for basically the same but with nearly twice the power, which even if you don't need it it's always nice to have.
@@BigUriel yeah I agree. I guess I'm the odd buyer that prefers to buy 100hp instead of 200hp. I just don't need all that power, fuel usage, and engine heat! And I like twin cyl, but not cruisers ... niche preferences, lol
@@xorbe2 Just going to chime in with what I did once, and ended up thrilled with the results of my decision. A gently used Monster 1100S with proper pipes is right at 100 HP and 80+ pounds of twin cylinder torque, and can easily be taken down to 350 lbs dry.
Very comfortable for most riders, top shelf brakes and suspension, head turning Italian styling, daily rider dependability, no heat issues, 50+ miles per gallon, and with some careful looking, can be had with low miles and in very nice condition for eight large or less, and the miles of JOY per dollar quotient is almost unbeatable by anything on wheels.
The reviews from a few years back but still excellent.
Just bought a 2022 ex demo bike with 400 miles on it (I did over 200 of them last year) that’s shrunk the bank balance but what a machine this bike is.
Got my full licence exactly 1 year ago and done 6000 miles on my first big bike (CBR650R) which was great but really amazed at the handling and performance of the V2 and looking forward to learning heaps more this year.
Me and my son went to the Austrian alps last year this year it will be a tour of Italy so we will be taking my V2 and his SP2 home 👍
I'm with you Michael, the 750 class is where it's at, especially on track 👍
I liked everything in this video except it's length!😅 Day by day MCN is only looking at magazines and not video!
I've heard that before
expect or except?
@@jamdc2000 typo error bro! I didn't see that coming ☹️
You're very right, but I'd add that Mcn always seems to favour the magazine over pretty much everything else. Even their website feels like a mere poor relation to the magazine. Their long term fleet pages are rarely ever updated and their reviews considerably shortened. I've recently subscribed and am awaiting my first issue, so we'll see if they're right to do so...
KTM rc fan joined the chat 😹
Rightly said. The baby panigales have always been the perfect blend of power and handling
Love this dudes reviews
Thank you Michael for reviewing the V2. I always like the review of Michael, pretty straightforward and has an Apple to Apple comparison to the previous model.
This bike is just... Perfect... Unbelievably beautiful 🤩
The only bike I’d sell my 848 evo for. Absolutely stunning!
Dukesbk no don't you dare cheat on the Evo that bike is too stunning to be treated like that!
Lemon you’re ok, I can’t afford a Panigale v2 now after the cost of the last service on my 848evo.
Stunning bike. I sat on it at Motorcycle Live yesterday. The shape of the tank is gorgeous. It's a bit of a stretch at £15k (for me), but worth it for what you are getting. Thanks for the review 👍🏽
Saw Fagan trying to catch you on his review but couldn't quite do it haha. Would love to see where the different journos stack up in their lap times.
Thank you for the review Michael. I remember when the CBR1000F and the GPZ1000RX were offering 130hp a few decades ago. Now we can buy some very nice bikes over 200hp. I agree with you, it's better to have less power than struggling to handle +200hp superbikes. Nice review. Now we want more. :-)
Great short review; I really like your work. Thanks👍
This one seemed to look nicer than the V4 don't know why
I really want this bike, this is a superb bike. I hope to own one in the future.
Looking forward to having a crack on one of these at some point - will it make me want to chop in my beloved 899 though??
@@ChronicTHCBlaze No I'm a road rider Veronica and have never seen the point in trying to "get my knee down" on a public highway...so unless something goes wrong, you will indeed never see me get my knee down....as it happens I have the V2 in my garage now, I can tell you I'm loving it despite barely riding it at all!
@Crishai X 100% agreed....
@@TheMissendenFlyer you ever reviewed this?
@@ChronicTHCBlaze best UA-cam comment I’ve ever seen lol
i'm digging those tires :o
Ducati absolutely needs to make an S version of this. With Ohlins suspension and better wheels. So sad that the twins has left the sport industry.
I agree 100%. Probably not in 2021, but perhaps 2022.
I agree but it would maybe take too many customers away from the bigger sister
i hope 70 years from now i will buy this bike😍
BRILLIANT
Do you think Ducati will introduce a new middleweight sportsbike below like the old 749?
Alan Benn i hope so. A 750-800cc rompy v-twin sportsbike would be awesome
are those rain tires?
Modern version of the honda RC51
SD Canyon Carver * modern version of the Ducati 916.
Eh so its going to have the same hot seat issue from the 959?
I live in Norway.. heated seat is a feature:p not a problem
Its a ducati, what do you expect? 😁
@@hfracing well its an issue for asian
Does this still have that clear coat issue like the old bike? Considering this or a MY19 fireblade. About the same price here in Aus.
My dream bike
Nice V 2
It's not a bike review until MCN does it...been waiting for your take on this one .❤❤❤it
Liter bikes are a bit of a "willy waving thing" at the racetrack?!
Totally appreciate our cousins across the bond. 🤣
Pond, James pond
Confused every one keeps saying the V2 has more power than the 959 but my 2017 959 owners manual shows my 959 with 157Bhp. That's more than 153Bhp is it not lol
What’s it like for 6’2 chaps?
Is this stock tyres?
amazing review
Good review
Good video!
I want to see a comparison between the V2 and the other liter bikes at the same price point. At 959cc the V2 is a lot closer to a s1000rr or r1 than it is to a "middle weight" bike i both price and displacement.
I’ll stick with my cheap R1. Doesn’t have all the Ducati issues. Also it’s more reliable
Hector, Ducati has a past remembered by the lovers of the brand.
I have always wanted to own one but never had the extra money for one.
I owned a Honda V45 Interceptor, 1983 then an 85 GSXR 750.
Both were nice back then and were fairly inexpensive.
If I were young and in the market for a new bike I would certainly think about YAMAHA.
My second bike was a 1968 YAMAHA 350 YR2C Scrambler.
I loved that bike.
My first bike....... Montgomery Ward 125 about 1965.
For the money the Japanese give you the most performance for sure.
@SDSSMotoChannel SDSS, I don't have Ducati issues.
Many sport bike enthusiast look at Ducati, Bimoto and other Italian bikes as very fast works of art.
I know I do.
My Interceptor and GSXR mid 1980s cost 3200 and 3400.
I believe the Ducati was about 9000 back then.
I liked the Ducati but the Honda and Suzuki were affordable for me.
SDSSMotoChannel I’ve had two Ducati’s an 05 999r and a 01 998. I loved both bikes, just over time they cost so much to keep up and maintain. So yes I can afford them. For me the Japanese bikes are cheaper to run on the track.
WMS 1 same ere I’ve had two Ducati’s. An 05 999r and a 01 998. Which I loved, they cost so much to maintain. Where Yamaha is cheaper to run on the track. I currently have a 05 Yamaha r1 and a 16 R1m.
@@Hek692 As I posted earlier about 1967 I had a Riverside 125.
An older friend had a Ducati 250 single cylinder. I don't know the model.
We swapped bikes a couple of times and my memory is it had good power and handled pretty good.
I liked the look of the engine.
If my memory is correct it had the same side gear shift as my Riverside.
That was a long time ago.
I would like to see this against the V4 in tight circuit
Would it be possible to stick 1299 engine into it .. ? And make it work
4k UHD please
That is beautiful. If only I had the cash ...
not many do, 90% are on finance
@@coops6621 true !
I could probably make an effort and throw in the cash... but to be honest I prefer to finance it :D
Hey UA-cam. Already watched this... why you keep suggesting it?
It's a sign
comes on DIABLO ROSSO CORSA II
120/70 ZR17 180/60 ZR17
😍😍😍
Does anyone know if fitting the Akrapovič exhaust system causes this bike to no longer be Euro5 compliant?
Yes. Obviously it's not emissions complaint after adding a full free flow system.
Thats your fave bike right 😁
Being a street riding naked bike guy this Panigale makes me want to get a sportsbike...
What do you recon, how does it stack up against the modern hypernakeds ala MT-10 or Tuono V4 as a streetbike?
If this bike goes back in time to 2007 it could smoke every bike on earth. I don’t really recommend sport bikes for beginners not even the small 300cc bikes because of the angles and body positioning it’s much harder to handle in traffic and streets only place sport bikes belong to is tracks
I was expecting the price to be more than £15k. Few more years yet
Quite the bargain then aye?;)
Suzuki.. you should also watch reviews of motorcycles from other brands! 😒😑
Yea the newer suzukis, excluding the gsx and sv lineup, are so fugly. Especially the new touring bike...
I'm watching this video while imagining putting my money on a R6 😋
Mototzigane i think r6 much better
Ducati: V4s are the future!
Also Ducati: lol jk
Technically , it's V4 but they chopped it in half .
The V4 is probably going to be only for the flagship superbike and its streetfighter version. Most Ducatis will probably continue to be twins for a long time.
@@nix294 not really, it's an evolution of the Superquadro from the Panigale 959, not a chopped V4
Is this a road test? Is it still 1999?
can some one tell me what tires, is in on?

@@mafia3941 : Sammy, you from GTAM ?
sid B mmmmmmm nope hahha
Ducati now please make a streetfighter V2
SF 1098S :)
@@joeridestrijcker445 Yeah! Bring it back!
@@xzistpo I fear it will remain a 'blast from the past'; very likely, eventually all the big Ducs will move to V4... SF already... Diavel/Multistrada probably also in a next phase. Hypermotard, the Multi950, baby Pani and the Scramblers/Monster might just stick to V2; if you really fancy a V2 SF, I guess the Monster 1200S (or R, if they continue it) will be the next best thing
Joeri De Strijcker
Yeah I know. Euro5-6-7 won’t help with that either. Big cylinders/pistons are generally harder to seal properly and burn a bit of oil, which is bad for emission tests (hence the disappearance of big singles). Still, I do think the SFv2 could exist with this engine, especially if the monster gets the v4. I don’t need 200hp and I love Vtwins, so it could be a bike I would consider, even if all these modern electronic gizmos turn me off a bit. For now anyway, I am still plenty happy with my « old » KTM 990SMT.
Cheers
@@xzistpo Euro norms are serious PITA for many things we consider 'fun'; in Western Europe petrol/diesel engine cars will probably no longer be produced/sold 5 years from now, bikes are a logical next step. Forget about V-twins or roaring V4 or howling supersports... it'll all be EV and you'll have to clack your tongue really loud to have any facsimile of engine sound while driving or riding; sure, make life miserable and take away all the fun just to accomodate 12 billion people on this planet, instead of creating a great and fun environment for 2 billion (or so) ; the fact that electricity production is either completely insufficient for a full EV complement of vehicles OR the production is polluting enough is to be blatantly ignored... just like the fact that 15 cargo ships produce the same amount of emissions as the entire car and motorbike population of the planet... ; that being said, yes, with a 130bhp bike you'll already have plenty of death-defying fun on the streets ;) ; anyway, /end rant mode
Look like NR.
245. Better than Fagan. :-)
Neither this nor the written review mention the heat issue, not even in passing. Test rode a 959 and it was almost unbearable, that along with the loud drone of the engine (admittedly subjective) made it a no-go for me. Doubt either of those things have changed but seems odd they've been omitted from the review.
When wearing leathers and riding it how its meant to be ridin its a non issue. if using it for riding to the local coffee shop it would be.
@@dwlee67 he's introduced as "chief road tester" and most people don't ride bikes to their limits at a track, otherwise I'd agree with you.
Why do Panigales look like they were made for Neevsy? So, unfair.
Cant review a bike in 3 minutes!!
899 for life, pre-regulation BS. Looks better, sounds better.
I think Ducati have L-twin not v-twin😂
Love it. Great bike. Great review. More please. Road test, track test V2? Long term review? Comparison to its bigger sister V4?
