Sometimes the records list both baptism date and birth date. Look for the words baptismo and nasceo. You will see the two dates listed with the birth obviously taking place first.
Where do you get Natutalization documents?
My father was first generation, New Bedford Massachusetts,1922, I know none of his family. Is there a DNA test that a lot of people use in Portugal?
How can I look at the 1920 census?
@@alaneferreira2117 Some main libraries genealogy online databases have HeritageQuest.
If anyone watching this needs help transcribing information in Portuguese, drop me a line. I am native Portuguese and have some training on reading these types of old hand writing. I can also help with pronunciation in Portuguese!
Wow, very helpful, I had previous trouble with the homeland websites and your directions have been very helpful, I am lucky that my family is from the same island as Manuel, although the opposite side of the island.
Hi Rhonda ,
I enjoyed your description of the research of document's . I was 2 year's of age when I immigrated to Massachusetts and my parent's didn't really speak of my ancestors. So I'm going into this blindly. However I learned some information about some of my Family from my Mom before she passed away last November. I did do my DNA and so many Cousin's. I am now trying to clean up my tree. Do you have any suggestions how I should go about how to?
First, start off collecting all the data and documents you can about their lives in the US. This should hopefully give you the persons date and place of birth, and the name of their parents. That’s probably enough for you to start looking for records in Portugal.
Thank you so much.

Hello, the two website that you gave " tombo.pt " and " cultura governo dos acores " only go to 1911. Do you know how I can get information for 1930 / 1960. Thank you
The coverage of the records depends on the place you’re researching. For instance, in Coimbra, only the records until 1911 are available. However, on other regions, they go much further. You have to select the specific place, instead of the region, because that might show you more stuff.
Do you know the name of the specific place you’re looking for?
@rosanac7388 Huh? Parish baptism, marriage and death records go back to about 1500.
Also ABM Archives Madeira which has databases
