It's criminal how few views/likes this video has. You did a great job with the shooting and editing, and your studio & talent is well worth showing off. I'm looking to buy a Pyramid for myself soon!
Thank you SO much for making this tutorial. I got a Pyramid after watching your videos. I used to have all my synths on my main desk surrounding me and my DAW stuff. I used to access my synths via my DAW and really they were being treated like ‘physical plugins’. Now they are all along the walls of my studio and I actually stand up and move around and physically play them like musical instruments should be played- not treated like bits of information technology gear. It’s a different world. Thanks for inspiring that change in my workflow and my experience of creating music in the studio! :-)
Very informative Mr Tuna, so I didn't get this part but is it possible for the Aira gear on USB ports to send all 4 midi channels trough the MX 1 to the Pyramid on a single midi cable?
This is a great video. Thanks for doing it! Do you happen to have an illustrated diagram of your midi set up that you would be willing to share? You touch on it in the video, but I’m super curious to see how it all fits together. Thanks!
This is excellent. MIDI Patchbay is classic. Good shout out to MIDI Patchbay, which I love. MIOXL is a good hardware implementation of that + your midi merger/splitter solution.
I have mine setup basic right now as I don't have a midi merger to get all the midi outs from my synths to setup omni mode yet. I can play them all from the pyramid though. One thing I have yet to figure out is how, once I have a great 'verse loop' playing, how do you clear the slate to record some fresh parts using the same instruments for a 'chorus loop"?
yo! YOU are the reason I bought a Pyramid! Still chomping through my configuration, but man, I'm ready to venmo you money to help me get this ironed out. this tutorial really helped. my mpc 1000 won't record when being controlled by pyramid. that's got me scratching my head!
Great video. I would love to see a follow up video where you go through some of the MIDI patchbay routings on your Mac to deal with gear that does not play nicely
Great overview! This was super helpful in getting my own set-up working with the Pyramid. Gotta look into midi patch bay for some of my own creative routing - haha! Thanks for sharing!
Great vid. I’ve just got my pyramid. Having trouble setting it up. Can you divulge your misc settings as I don’t understand them all and live mode looping isn’t working right for me. I would be grateful if you can help.
How quickly does it load new songs. For instance if you were playing a live set with four songs how would you change from one song to the next without the music stopping completely?
Mr Tuna.. Love your vids and your set up is next level!! I have a virus ti2 and a roland tr8s. Will I be able to sequence all 16 channels of the virus and the 11 instruments on the tr8s independently with the pyramid.. Would love to get the euclidian rhythms working on the tr8s to create really interesting/complex beats.
Ive been following you a while (and have recently bought some patches for my new OB6) . i use a Pyramid as well - but Im haveing one issue - I cant work out have to get the OB6 to ignore start/stop so it doesnt run its sequencer when I start the pyramid. Do i just have to clear the sequence in the OBs patch - or is there an option somewhere on the OB to ignore it (shame you cant send or not send per channel on the Pyramid - but I dont think thats an option). There may ne ties I want to - if I have a sequence recorded on the OB already that I dont want to replicate on the Pyramid - but if im doing more than step Ill want to sequence on the Pyramid.
@@MRTUNA Thanks - Id looked everywhere for that setting lol. Just got to work out the pyramid setting to "wait" for a note to start rather than a click in and Im golden.
@@MRTUNA Thanks for that. I just looked into the MOTU MIDI Express XT and may pick up that instead. One box instead of 2. Either way, I need MIDI routing in my life.
Hi Mr Tuna. I love your music & videos. One question. I have to sync my Pyramid to an Intellijel Rainmaker (Eurorack System) but I can't manage to do it. I've tried to send gate from Pyramid gate output into Rainmaker clock input but it doesn't work. I'm a newbie into Eurorack system. Could you help me with this issue? TNX
Hey man. Thanks alot for all the information. I am just getting started with electronic music and I am looking for advise on my first purchase. I work with dancers live on stage and I would like to have a flexible yet small setup because we already carry other instruments. I was looking into the Roland jd xa. I like it because it seems to give alot of room for experimentation on sound, I need to be able to do different genres. It also has a sequencer and a vocoder. What is your opinion on that one? Do you have another recommendation for me? Thank you so much for your time. I love your music and your setup! All the best, Nikolas
Great go through mate. I've recently built up a 2nd dawless studio around the pyramid (wanted a Cirklon but haven't been able to get hold of one). Your video just made me order a Midi merger (though I went for the Kenton Merge8). Let's see if I can get it all set up without involving a computer. Haven't decided how many of the synths to hook up. Thinking if there's some creative solution to easily switch between the "a-studio" (Logic, UAD-apollo, USB-Midi-interfaces, patchbays and all the racksynths) and the dawless "b-studio". Like just unplugging/switching a few Midi cables.. or, just settling with having a nr of smaller synths (boutiques, as-1, tetra, elektron machines etc) to play around with and then just audio it in to the main studio when I've done something... Cheers and keep up those squarp videos coming our way 🎹🖖
I noticed you send start/stop, I was doing that and it would automatically make the prophet rev 2 default sequence start. I turned it off and that fixed the issue. what am I losing by having this off? also if you know the midi setting to be used for rev 2 that would be awesome info. Im trying to go squarp> rev 2>thru>sub 37>out>squarp in. is the absence of a midi merger and thru where my problem lies? any insight is much appreciated.
On my p6 and ob6 I have it set to “nss” (no start/stop) and I assume you can do that on the rev2 as well. Start stop lets me sync all my drum machine and sequencer timing perfectly but the built in sequences on the Ob6 and p6 always get in the way so I had to fix that
Hello sir, Sorry to bother you again, but can you help with me with the connections ? I received my pyramid yesterday along with a T8 and M8. I’m having trouble with how to plug everything in. PLus I’m not getting any power to the midi solutions boxes when the pyramid is plugged in to the In/power slot. I own 3 synths and a tempest. I followed your instructions in the video, but something isn’t right..Do the T8 and M8 connect with a midi cable? How do you power both? What settings do I need to have on the synths to make it work? Please help. Thanks again.
Ones again ! Many thanks for sharing your setup with Squarp sequencer . Somehow I'm still thinking and considering to add such a nice sequencer to my studio which includes most of Roland aira and Roland boutiques hardware . Questions : I may have a real hard time to make it work between my mainly Roland arsenal and Squarp ? Sure thing I wish to be able to play any synth and to record direct into Squarp ( not just using one master keyboard ) . Would I need to add a few more "midisolutions " to make it work ? Thanks again . Cheers from Hong Kong
I am sure I'll be watching this about twenty times to get my Pyramid to function like this. Manuals are such a headache for me. I have a Kenton Midi Merge 4 to help me get the synths to go into the midi in of the Pyramid. Thank you kind sir !
Hey, Just got my Pyramid, thanks for the vid! As a dinosaur guitarist who doesn't use computers I'm in a bit of a bind trying to figure out the most logical hardware routing for my rig. My synths are mostly in racks and I use a Keystep 37 as my main controller. In order to record notes and manual control changes(knob twiddling in real-time), is it possible to send Midi output A from the Squarp in to my Keystep 37, then send the output from the Keystep to a T8 splitter to feed my synths' midi inputs, then send the midi outputs from the synths to an M8 unit which runs into the Squarp midi in? It seems logical but in most diagrams I see it seems to have the controller going into the Squarp directly, so I'm a bit confused. 🙃
Thats all right on except for your controller which you will want to run directly into the squarp (or into the M8 Merger rather, and from there into the squarp) the squarp will send out all the midi info from the key step but also allow you to record it in the squarp as it passes through to the midi out A or B and into the synths. then the synth midi outs will go back into the merger if you want to record control changes from the synths themselves and back into the squarp... otherwise there is no reason to have a merger and you can just plug the midi out of the key step into the midi in of the squarp!
@@MRTUNA my friend you're awesome! I'm working on a new diagram right now! Things have just gotten a bit more complex however as I've decided to get a 1010 Black Box sampler, which also sequences externally, along with a Fishman Connect hexaphonic pickup to control my synths via my guitar. Meaning I see the possible need for secondary(smaller) merge and/or thru units? Back to the sketchpad and I'm sure some experimentation will come into play.. but and thanks so much for clearing up the path with the general routing👍👍👍
Bro this video is so helpful, i am trying my best to get DAW less and this explains so much. Also going to cost me an arm and a leg by the looks of things haha
Hi just got my Pyramid because of you😂 Good job !!! I wired my 9 synths and other devices to midi A and the Analog Rytm alone to midi B but I don’t understand the omni mode and the midi out of all the synths should point to the midi channel of the pyramid? Have plenty of loops going on… Still on the learning stage… Thanks for your video, you give me motivation to make my set up so I will soon share my jams Keep on going
Very useful tutorial, thank you for this ! I have a practical question: my synth midi outs are connected to a 4-port merge box, which goes to the midi in of Pyramid mkIII. As I exprerience the merge box gets "jammed" every time after a couple of minutes, only a power cycle brings it back. It means I don't get midi signal from the synths when it happens. Can you advise how can I troubleshoot this ?
is it powered? you can run into issues like that when there is a power drain on the receiving end. some mergers/splitters are powered, some are not. powered ones are more stable in my experience.
Yet again you never disappoint, your vids are top rate, informative, educational and creative thank you. I just bought a Jupiter X after your review :)))) Wondering why you went for the Pyramid and not the Deluge, maybe it wasn't around when you were choosing a sequencer.
If you have more than 8 synths, how do you midi merge from the squarp midi in to the midi outs on your synths? And you split the midi in on the squarp and gave it go to two separate midi merge boxes that have 8 ins each for a total of 16 ins?
Please explain me. My MIDI keyboard when connected to the midi in connector to the pyramid sends cc notes to the synthesizers only on track 1. MIDI bank Out a and b = out + thru. midi echo = on How can I play with different synthesizers according to the scheme: for example, tr505 play with midikey on the first track, behringer td3 on the second track, etc.? Thank you for clarifying if you understand me
MR TUNA Music this video has helped me a bunch. Just curious how you handle the audio out from yours synths / aira gear. Do you keep mx-1 in omni mode with tr8 attached to it as usb? as well? Did u require mido patch bay for routing padkontrol?
Hey man- glad its helping you! depending on how lazy im feeling (which is exceptionally lazy almost always) I just record the master tracks into Logic via USB. that way I can still get the master effects on the MX1s an I like to screw around with those a lot live. But sometimes I will multi-track everything into Logic and do a proper mix if I know we are going to do something more with it later or I'm feeling ambitious (rarely). I keep the TR8 just plugged into the MX1 as a stereo track unless Im reaaally taking my time on a project. For the padkontrol because I want it to be able to record notes into the Pyramid but I *don't* want the notes to be recorded from the TR8 sequencer (otherwise it just keeps over dubbing the recording into a mess) I run it through the MIDI Solutions M8 merger and pass it through the Squarp into the TR8. that lets me play the TR8 and record variation without drawing in a sea of black MIDI.
MR TUNA Music one last question say Im using tr8 with sp404 to add more precussion / samples to the tr8. I currently have tr8 to accept external midi to keep from over dub on pyramid. Since sp404a only has midi in would you still set it to its own pyramid track? Currently its on same channel as tr8 but a little unsure how to get this working correctly. Thanks again, ur jam session w the tempest was tight.
Hey man, I love the idea of this device but only have one synth (Nord stage 3) and drum machine (Roland tr8s). As this device records midi data only, surely this would limit me to only one custom patch on my Nord and Tr8s? Because if I change sounds etc on my synth this would effect the other recorded midi data right? I want one but feel like it's too early if it can only sequence one patch at a time.
that's pretty much right on! theres still lots of neat things you could do with it, but having another synth or instrument would really make a cool difference too!
Great stuff Mr TUNA; it correspond exactly to what I try to do, but I do not get the point about midi configuration between my Prophet6 and pyramid to record CC yet. It does not work by me. Could you tell me required parameters on P6 and Pyramid to record CC on the fly, please?
Zuul Bull it’s likely you have your prophet set to NPRN mode not MIDI CC mode for control changes- it’s in the menu and quick to change! Let me know if that helps
Thanks for your quick answer. I have checked about CC and NPRN already. Today, something mysterious happened when I changed MIDI canal on P6, it worked ! So I feel nice even if I dont realy understand why it is running strangely as I think CC are recorded on an another track. I ve to check MIDI deeper to unsderstand what is going on. Thanks.
My third viewing and I learn a little more each time, thanks. I was curious when you record the changes to the play (knob and pitch wheel turn) on the P~6 is it just a matter of rerecording the part on the Pyramid ?
you are exactly right. so long as the pyramid is recording it will overdub midi info on top of the existing data. i find I have to stop recording after cc changes though because it continues to record the non movement and basically erases it if you dont start and stop the record function again (which thankfully doesnt stop playback)
Tuna man, supp? Ive been waiting for some guidance on the pyramid, nice! Can you help us with how T8 and M8 are connected and do i need a midi in AND a midi thru or out on my synths?
Beatswanker Beatswanker if you want to play the synths and have it record like a live looper this way you need a midi in and out the synths you want to play, but if they don’t have the big MIDI din ports, they might have USB midi and pyramid works great with USB midi too. If you just have MIDI in ports on your synths you can use the pyramid to play them, or plug in a MIDI controller to the pyramid and control them all that way. The MIDI out of the pyramid goes into the MIDI in on the T8 and that copies all the data to each synth, but each synth is only listening and sending a specific channel. The synths MIDI outs all pipe into the M8 merger and that takes allll the midi info from the synths and slams it into one cable going into the Pyramid. I’ve had lots of midi info coming in and once and rarely had a problem
Hi, man! I would like to know how do you get rid of those double triggers, unnecessary midi learning, re-recordings while live looping? I have MPC, keystep and bunch of desktop synths, and here are goals I want to reach 1) be able to do fingerdrumming on mpc and record it to pyramid (having trouble with that when not using anti echo) 2) be able to play all of my gear including MPC via keystep (having trouble with that when using anti echo like yours with fingerdrumming) If I hook up all of my gear in a chain like this: Keystep Thru/Out - MPC In - MPC Thru/Out - Synths In - Synths Thru - Pyramid In - Pyramid Out - KeyStep In I'll be able to play in anti echo mode, but I get those unwanted midi learning while playing sequence and other stuff what is expected if you send notes from pyramid's Midi Out to it's Midi In How do I can get rid of recieving midi from pyramid what have been sent from pyramid? I haven't got midi merger, but I don't think it can be useful in that case And btw how do you get deal with pressing record button on a pyramid while playing prophet 6, they're not so close for each other, I don't really get this thing, you have set the length of a track before recording it?
I just received my new effects pedal, the H9 max. I see you have an Eventide pedal in your setup. You should consider it. This pedal's sparking creativity so fast. I may let go of dd500, re20, & moogerfoogers.
I know I’m driving you crazy now lol. So my sweetwater rep found a midi Solutions device that should power T8. It uses 9V power supply & has 1 midi in & 1 midi out. I may keep T8 & M8 after all. Do you have Pyramid midi out powering T8 midi in while Pyramid midi in is routed to M8 midi out? In order to power M8, I assume one of the instruments would be doing this.
Hay what’s up. I’m back again for a another round of guidance. The M8 seams to be working as the indicator light flashes when notes are sent to audio interface then to Mac/DAW. T8 indicator light has yet to turn on to send back synth. I used a Reaper video as my guideline to get the routing right. It will work with one synth running directly to interface but not from synth to M8 &T8 then to audio interface. If you watch the first 5 min, you’ll begin to understand exactly what I’m doing. Per synth, One track is to record midi while the other is to record an audio track sent from the midi track. This is how I’m going about my setup for now, till I get a sequencer. Have you tried this yourself and delved into a DAW in such a way? All this is being tested with prophet 6. I didn’t get the midi software you spoke about and I noticed midi Solutions has routing software as well. ua-cam.com/video/aQ1iHnkqiXA/v-deo.html
Joshua Johnson the only thing I can think of is that the midi cable you are using plugged into the T8’s midi in is not receiving power from your interface. Plug it into your synth’s MIDI out and see if that turns it on. You may need to find a powered midi port
MR TUNA Music I called sweetwater & was able to confirm it at least works by routing just one synth to T8. From there I had to reroute midi from audio interface back into T8 in & m8 out 1 along with one synth routed properly. M8 had signal but not T8. Before even doing this, sweetwater tech checked my Mac to see if I had proper audio midi setup which l wasn’t aware of lol. So it wasn’t & he fixed it, so he said. After rerouting all hardware, still no signal on T8. This is the first time ever attempting to use midi with computer. That means I could still be missing something. I’m not sure what because I’ve never used midi . Im a noob on this one lol.
I think I found some info helping me move forward. The sweetwater tech didn’t make matters better. He said by him creating one midi device within mac audio midi setup & calling it t8/m8, the computer wont tell the difference. He then routed 1 midi out & 1 midi in from the midi device to audio interface. I was then left with 1 port within the device properties. Both T8 & m8 obviously have more than 1 port lol. I guess midi solutions is basically a very bare device that requires unnecessary steps compared to iconnectivity which automatically shows up in Mac audio midi setup. Just need to configure routing & there’s no need to creat how many ports it has. Instruments like rev 2, pro 6, tempest, maschine studio & audio interface show up automatically. I assume this is apart of an instruments OS, maybe a driver installs on computer idk. With that said, I think I’m getting somewhere but still wrapping my head around more midi info which I though I was finished with lol. Let me know your thoughts man. Was your experience similar to mine when you first understood midi and how it works? Like I said, I’m not sure if you’ve ever tried this yourself as you have a sequencer. You may never need to connect 2 midi interfaces to an audio interface & run a DAW like I’m doing. And I’m doing it this way for now till I can purchase a sequencer.
I just found a list of products that will not power midi solution multi voltage products. my clarett 8 pre is in the list. I have clarett midi out going to T8 midi in/power. Oh bummer
after the red record button is armed, how can the recording be started remotely by simply at the first note pressed on the external midi-keyboard (instead of separately pressing the start button on the Pyramid)?
Ive never actually used that setting---- it might be shfit+rec, but as far as i take advantage of recording, i usually just wait until the start of the next loop to hit the keys.
This is awesome! 1 question; when using this live recording omni mode, are the different synth sequences recorded into separate tracks/sequences on the pyramid that you can later edit/rearrange in some form of ‘song’ mode?
@@MRTUNA thanks, think I need a pyramid now haha. Using the octatrack for midi sequencing up till now, its nice, but less useful for polyphonic work (chords) and there is no 'note overlapping'. Also every sequence max 64 steps
Awesome Mr. T ... well worth the wait ;-) im gonna have to watch a couple of times to take it all in but for now ... can each track be set to a different bar length ? for example, track 1, juno loops bass riff (4bars) whist track 2, Prophet loops melody riff (8bars) but juno loops its 4 bars twice along with the 8 bars from prophet. ... sorry if that doesn't make sense but cant think of a better way to put it.
While in multitrack mode, is there any way to record multiple tracks with the same synth? As an example: you record a loop with the Juno on tr01a (while in multitrack bk a) and you want to record a second loop with the Juno on another track. Btw really liked the video!
Wilson SPBelgium you can definitely do exactly that! The way I have mine set-up I might have to set up the second track after I had recorded the first one (quickly changing the midi channel on a track) so that it doesn’t record the 1st loop on both tracks
MR TUNA Music thanks for the quick answer! This doesn't really solve my problem as my synth will only record to track tr01a (while in multitrack bk a and my synth being on channel 1). This means my synth is restricted to record on only one track.
Wilson SPBelgium okay maybe I’m not sure about what you want to do. Do you want to switch between tracks? Or play them both at the same time? Pyramid has something called “patterns” that allow you to record different tracks and variations and patterns on a single track so you can switch between them. Or you could make a complex single track with all of your melodic info on one track (just writing more midi on top of the track) or making a new track and recording on to that after the fact.
MR TUNA Music okay I think were getting there, my intentions were to change between melodies on a same track. I hadn't heard about patterns and this is actually what my solutions is! Many thanks for helping me!
because the sequencer only plays midi information and doesnt record audio, what you have to keep in mind is that the midi goes out from the keyboards into the sequencer, but without that same information coming back to the synths they would not play in a loop. the synths are playing all the sounds live its not a recorded audio loop like a guitar-looper or something. that way you can still affect the sounds with controls like cutoff or resonance or even switch patches entirely. you could add arpeggios or do some really neat stuff all while its playing.
I love the barn setup! One question: I'm trying to get my Pyramid to talk to my Mac to route to a few MIDI devices (Peak, Circuit) via USB. I'm assuming this is possible. I downloaded MIDIPatchBay but it doesn't ever recognize the Pyramid. How do I fix this?! I have USB MIDI settings on the Pyramid set to SEND and I have USB MIDI channel chosen as Ch 1 and the Circuit Synth 1 is set to SEND/REcieve on Ch 1. Regardless, haven't been able to get MIDIPatchBay to even see or communicate with the Pyramid yet.
That is very strange. Pyramid is class compliant so it should immediately recognize the pyramid. You might try doing a SMC reset on your Mac, that happened once to me with my pyramid connection. (Shift+Control+Option at start up) Sounds like everything is set up otherwise fine
Well you touched on the basics of what my goal should be once I have Pyramid in my hands. It’s a great tool & I’m glad I found it through more research. Deluge is another good one but Pyramid & Cirklon are deep sequencers. However, I’d be on a waiting list for about 1 yr or more for Cirklon with a high price to pay. I just need to get off the Elektron hype wagon, thanks to low polyphony, and make a move lol. I’ve read that most elektron users don’t even feel it. It’s a treat to have 4 note polyphony per midi channel. I want to say these are people who don’t use poly synths or are just willing to merge 2 or more midi channels to get more polyphony. 2 channels do = 8 midi note polyphony. I’d rather put 8 midi channels to better use like 8 synths at once lol. Never mind me, just psyching myself up to buy Pyramid lol.
Joshua Johnson that’s a good idea for a polyphony work around! Cirklons look amazing but I’m so so happy with my Pyramid environment I feel no ambition to upgrade at all- I’ve yet to feel really limited by the pyramid in the way I want to make music, but as far as my use goes, 4 voice is just not enough on a track! I love those double-octave bass chords
Joshua Johnson I don’t really see the need unless a great deal comes around. They are exactly the same internally, you just get a nicer metal front and raised touch pad... functionally identical otherwise though!
Hello, thank you for the vid! What I can't seem to figure out is how the m8 and the t8 know which midi channel to send to each respective input/output. I want to go computerless so how would I get my synths to know that it's midi channel 1 or 2? Thanks!
Torey Cates the thing is, the T8 sends allllll the information on *every* port and it’s the synthesizer on the other end that chooses what information to follow. (Synth on channel 1 only listens to the info on channel 1) and then the M8 takes all the info from the synths and merges it to one cable to go back to the Pyramid.
Thanks! I understand that is the functionality of the t8/m8. However, still puzzled as to what stops two separate synths from believing they are both channel 1? If I have a Moog Model D next to an Arturia Microbrute, (choosing two synths that dont have menus/brains to dive through) will they all try to be the first channel or do they automatically assume the next available if Ch.1 is already occupied?
@@toreycates8411 You've probably long since figured this out, but on the moog you hold A#3 while powering on the unit then tap one of the 16 lowest keys (so the 1st key, the low F would set it to midi channel 1, f# would be channel 2, etc.) Its in the manual.
Mr. Tuna, I have figured out a way to solve your problem of some instruments not wanting to "play nice" (no local control off). Also solves the problem of having to switch the Pyramid between "Anti Echo" On & Off when using a pad controller for the drum machines. I have the details posted on GearSpace. gearspace.com/board/showpost.php?p=15501436&postcount=26 Please check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

This is actually a very easy one- set the OB6 midi receive mode to “NSS” (no start/stop) and you’re done!
@@MRTUNA Thanks - Id looked everywhere for that setting lol. Just got to work out the pyramid setting to "wait" for a note to start rather than a click in and Im golden.
Just got my Pyramid. I think I'll be getting those MIDI solution boxes post haste. Thanks for the great video.
It enables so much more!! good one!
All the best,
Nikolas
Start stop lets me sync all my drum machine and sequencer timing perfectly but the built in sequences on the Ob6 and p6 always get in the way so I had to fix that
Great job! Does the squarp pyramid creates a track automatically per new midi channel or you need to set them up in advance? Thanks
Well this answered....ALL my questions about the pyramid. Thanks!
Thank you kind sir !
didlisquat glad to help!! Let me know if you run into any problems setting up
Hey, Just got my Pyramid, thanks for the vid!
Im gonna try to do a new video on this soon
Have plenty of loops going on…
Still on the learning stage…
Thanks for your video, you give me motivation to make my set up so I will soon share my jams
Keep on going
Thanks for the vid. Looks like I’m buying one after watching this
Very useful tutorial, thank you for this ! Can you advise how can I troubleshoot this ?
is it powered? you can run into issues like that when there is a power drain on the receiving end. some mergers/splitters are powered, some are not. powered ones are more stable in my experience.
hi there, nice setup! How do you set up your pyramid to keep recording? Mine stops after reaching the end of the track :/ thanks :)
My MIDI keyboard
when connected to the midi in connector to the pyramid sends cc notes to the synthesizers only on track 1.
Just walking around the studio, pacing, admiring everything, reminds me of myself lmao
Thanks.
Hey MR.TUNA, is it possible to sync the Pyramid to tape? So I can multitrack sync'd synths? Thanks!
MR TUNA Music aahhh, as the early morning mist fades away, it all becomes clear now. I do soo appreciate you sharing your knowledge my brother🤙🦗
Hi, man! I would like to know how do you get rid of those double triggers, unnecessary midi learning, re-recordings while live looping?
I have MPC, keystep and bunch of desktop synths, and here are goals I want to reach
1) be able to do fingerdrumming on mpc and record it to pyramid (having trouble with that when not using anti echo)
2) be able to play all of my gear including MPC via keystep (having trouble with that when using anti echo like yours with fingerdrumming)
If I hook up all of my gear in a chain like this:
Keystep Thru/Out - MPC In - MPC Thru/Out - Synths In - Synths Thru - Pyramid In - Pyramid Out - KeyStep In
I'll be able to play in anti echo mode, but I get those unwanted midi learning while playing sequence and other stuff what is expected if you send notes from pyramid's Midi Out to it's Midi In
How do I can get rid of recieving midi from pyramid what have been sent from pyramid? I haven't got midi merger, but I don't think it can be useful in that case
And btw how do you get deal with pressing record button on a pyramid while playing prophet 6, they're not so close for each other, I don't really get this thing, you have set the length of a track before recording it?
he goes over this in the video
recognize the sysex messages from the mod wheel and pitch bend of the sequential prophet?
How well does the Pyramid handle polyphonic sequences? Can you hold a chord and play a melody over it while maintaining rests and ties in the melody?
Exactly what I was looking for, it's really a powerful little guy! I guess I found my new brain :)
1 question; when using this live recording omni mode, are the different synth sequences recorded into separate tracks/sequences on the pyramid that you can later edit/rearrange in some form of ‘song’ mode?
yes thats exactly how it works!
@@MRTUNA thanks, think I need a pyramid now haha. Using the octatrack for midi sequencing up till now, its nice, but less useful for polyphonic work (chords) and there is no 'note overlapping'. Also every sequence max 64 steps
Thank you for this video!!!
What happened to your roof? Why you don’t mount panels on top of the foil/isolation?
Awesome Mr. T ... well worth the wait ;-) im gonna have to watch a couple of times to take it all in but for now ... can each track be set to a different bar length ? for example, track 1, juno loops bass riff (4bars) whist track 2, Prophet loops melody riff (8bars) but juno loops its 4 bars twice along with the 8 bars from prophet. ... sorry if that doesn't make sense but cant think of a better way to put it.
offworld network this is literally my first question!!!! If it does this, then I’m gonna have to get it
Yes it can
Hello, how do I sound my tr8? what is the midi entry and exit route
Hi, I'm going to buy a T8 and a M8 but I've read that they needs power over MIDI. Does the Pyramid provides it?
Deepteral yes it does!
@@MRTUNA thanx mate. Great music BTW!
Wilson SPBelgium what synth it it? If it’s multi-timbral it would be really easy to do to
MR TUNA Music okay I think were getting there, my intentions were to change between melodies on a same track. I hadn't heard about patterns and this is actually what my solutions is! Many thanks for helping me!
Hey, what’s the reason for sending the midi back into the keyboards? Thanks.
because the sequencer only plays midi information and doesnt record audio, what you have to keep in mind is that the midi goes out from the keyboards into the sequencer, but without that same information coming back to the synths they would not play in a loop. the synths are playing all the sounds live its not a recorded audio loop like a guitar-looper or something. that way you can still affect the sounds with controls like cutoff or resonance or even switch patches entirely. you could add arpeggios or do some really neat stuff all while its playing.
That sounds like its an essential part of the creative process. Appreciate your help and quick response.
(Shift+Control+Option at start up)
Sounds like everything is set up otherwise fine
Can you transpose your sequences from a midi keyboard?
yes, you can set a dedicated 'transpose track' for transposing one or more track simultaneously if needed.
MR TUNA Music are you at least going to up grade to Pyramid MK2?
Joshua Johnson I don’t really see the need unless a great deal comes around. They are exactly the same internally, you just get a nicer metal front and raised touch pad... functionally identical otherwise though!
MR TUNA Music I really thought it had to do with a major update. But yea I see the difference with the touch pad.
I want Bluetooth midi! What do I need?
Hello, thank you for the vid! What I can't seem to figure out is how the m8 and the t8 know which midi channel to send to each respective input/output.
I want to go computerless so how would I get my synths to know that it's midi channel 1 or 2?
Thanks!
Torey Cates the thing is, the T8 sends allllll the information on *every* port and it’s the synthesizer on the other end that chooses what information to follow. (Synth on channel 1 only listens to the info on channel 1) and then the M8 takes all the info from the synths and merges it to one cable to go back to the Pyramid.
Hope that helps!
@@toreycates8411 You've probably long since figured this out, but on the moog you hold A#3 while powering on the unit then tap one of the 16 lowest keys (so the 1st key, the low F would set it to midi channel 1, f# would be channel 2, etc.) Its in the manual.
how would it differentiate from the "cirklon sequentix"?
Now I need to buy pyramid and merge and thru boxes😂
Thanks for the video... my pyramid is a couple of days away😆....
Nice video, Mr Tuna!
Thanks man! I kinda breezed through this one again but I think most people will get the gist of it. Pretty excited for what 3.0 has to offer!
If I venmo'd you money would you be willing to do like 1 or 2 skype lessons on this? Im buying mine tonight
Hey man....u need some HardWare!!
why 4 TR8s tho?
you might reply its an aira mx, but you don't change my mind you have 4 tr8s on your setup.
Thanks!
D. Edo
Hey Man...u need some hardware!!
TheA CAN working on it :(
lol
Too much aira gear .
Not approved
Ward de jager yeah but at least it’s hiding in the corner, all the other gear gets a little more space to play away from the green monsters
