This was the first performance of Junior Wells that I saw and my first reaction was to pick my jaw off the floor....he's got a quality that is rare huh?
I passed New Years there once. And later jammed with Johnny Winter on a Blue Monday in Teresa's too. That video is so real. A neighbour hood bar-those guys played and clowned like hell in there. Sounded, acted differently than outside the city. Enjoy this to it's fullest!!
No one. An era has passed -- Junior Wells, Louis Myers, Pinetop, Detroit Junior, Sunnyland, Moose Walker, Jimmy Rogers, Carey Bell -- they're all gone. People still play the music -- and do it well -- but a lot of the original context is gone as are the real creators. At least we got to hear them before the end. Billy Branch in Chicago and Marquise Knox is St. Louis keep a little of the flame alive.
Theresa's was on the South Side, 47th and Indiana. See Steve Tomashefsky's great liner notes for the Delmark Live at Theresa's album for the most accurate description in print.
Check out Junior Wells "Southside Blues Jam," on Delmark Records, recorded in December 1969 and January 1970, with Buddy Guy on guitar and the great Otis Spann on piano.
Thankyou to whoever recorded this!!! Attention all hipsters, youngsters etc..this is no cellphone captcha...had to be a reel to reel portapack video (read real to reel) or actual FILM..it was a huge deal and I thank whoever understood how important and fleeting these moments were. RIP Junior et al....I was one of the white chicks in love.
1. That hat just screams the blues! 2. "sweet, soft and funky" just like i like my women... I could go on aaallll night ...but seriously folks, this music right here is DEEP.
Junior Wells, Phil Guy, Dave Myers, Buddy Guy - Just To Be With You (Live @ Theresa's Lounge) "Nooo, there ain't nothing in this world, baaaaby Oh Lord, little girl, i wouldn't do for you Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord..." - 01:16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i look at music 1 way if u get the natural high u can get the emotional content needed 2 b tru, every tru bluesman has lost people they love n lived hard.they put these exspeariances n emotions in2 their music.so many made original music n the roots of blues has music in its purest n original form.but when fred mcdowell covers a tune its freds, when skip james plays its pure skip like many others they live 4 ever, cos they have tru emotion identitiy n creation.but on old vinyl its like yr there.
Hey man, sorry to bother you, but I bought the track "Goin' Down Slow" from the Live at Theresa's 1975 album- and there's 2 guitarists credited- Phil Guy and Sammy Lawhorn. I was wondering if you knew which one was doing most of the soloing on that particular track.
In VERY loving memory of Mrs. Theresa Needham (1912 -1992 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
This was the first performance of Junior Wells that I saw and my first reaction was to pick my jaw off the floor....he's got a quality that is rare huh?
This is one of THE best blues i've EVER seen.
This kills. Junior, Buddy, Phil and girls in furs at Theresa's.
A nice little Harp shredding and popping going on.

My favorite blues album! Not as well known as ‚Hoodoo Man Blues‘ but even better I think and that is saying a lot!
There have been lots of great bluesmen, but JW stands out as not only great, but very original, he sounds like nobody else.
In my heart, you are eternally holding court at Theresa's, Junior. RIP, sweet prince
Man that’s really something. They are channeling something special here
Great post! Thank you. I cannot get enought of Junior and Buddy!
"The West Side ghetto..." Damn. Saw Junior on W. Roosevelt a few times, and once on W. Madison, but Theresa's???? Boy needs him a map.

Junior Wells, Phil Guy, Dave Myers, Buddy Guy - Just To Be With You
(Live @ Theresa's Lounge)

Oh Lord, little girl, i wouldn't do for you
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord..." - 01:16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of the unfortunate interruptions, the music still prevails somehow...
j’écoute et je des larmes qui coulent
We are Talking " 2 " FLAWLESS PERFECT CUT BLUES DIAMONDS !!!
Oh, thanks DannyTsun, now I see, he's playin' a A Harp 1st Postion, thanks
Nobody has or ever will, in my humble opinion.
This song is called Just To Be With You by the great Muddy Waters.
Isaac Hayes M.K. It's called "ships on the ocean"

Looks like Phil and Buddy playin with Junior.
Mistake at 2:57. Theresa's was on the South Side, not the West Side. I spent lots of time there in the early 70's.
you'd be talking about the good old days !
M A S T E R P I E C E!!!!
Can someone please post the whole video/film? Thanks in advance!,❤
I could be wrong, but I strongly suspect that's Magic Slim ... for just an instant ... at about 2:55 on the video.
damn right !! they got the blues
❤️❤️❤️
so good
Hey man, sorry to bother you, but I bought the track "Goin' Down Slow" from the Live at Theresa's 1975 album- and there's 2 guitarists credited- Phil Guy and Sammy Lawhorn. I was wondering if you knew which one was doing most of the soloing on that particular track.
You mean the bass player shown at 2:55? I don't recall the bass player's name at the moment. but it's definitely not Magic Slim.
yoo wee i sure got da blues today
The bass player is Ernest Johnson...
Unseen drummer is probably Nate Applewhite...Also, I remember fondly the tongue clucking Junior does when he is deep in a groove
Michel Lacocque Nate had a long stint with Chi-town legend Magic Slim, perhaps after Steve Cushing's time with the band?
Junior's vocal style is awesome, and quite unique.
Just one dollar cover and one dollar beer? That means one could enjoy himself the whole night for under 10 dollars?
Buddy Guy looks High! great song from a harp maestro
As good as it gets and doesn't get that good again
JUNIOR WELLS DIED IN 2005 R.I.P.
so real...it scary...I can smell the cigs and beer...
Real stuff ..
This the $hit ! ! !
ppppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaala. en heroina todos. pero todos eh. qué bueno. thank you!!!
The bass player is definetly Dave Myers. I don't really know the big guy is Magic Slim, but he could be, he always jammed in the Southside.
Bass player is definitely NOT Dave Myers!
phil guy... buddy guy's brother
buddy showing off his conducting skills haha
ok how do you know it's him taking the solos though? as opposed to lawhorn
@blues999z Good analogy there.
Does anybody know what the song Junior Wells is singing is called?
Xavi Lynn "ships on the ocean" It's on the Hoodoo Man record
@OldGoldSoul WRONG. He died in 1998.
The couple is as big o maybe better then Ike and Tina Turnes !!!..so good
@OldGoldSoul wikipedia on Junior_wells
bass player is earnet johnson
What's the name of this documentary?
Who is going to fill these shoes?
Name of the song?
No. The guy at the bar. Shown for only an instant.
Incorrect. That is not Magic Slim, and Phil Guy is in the afro wig, playing guitar, not bass.
What kind of harp microphone is that?
It's not a harp microphone, it's a vocal / PA microphone.
checker764 cool! Do you know if Wells was using a harp microphone for the Hoodoo Man Blues album?
I don't know for sure, but it sounds like he's playing through a vocal mic on that album.
JW could get real blue.
How's that song called?
Daniel Soares "ships on the ocean"
"Just To Be With You"
song is ship made out paper
Talking over the music? - Yaarkk.
South side, not West side!!!!!!!!
1:02 mafia.
nobody
