Live at Nightstage, Boston, USA, March 11, 1989 - Розваги
These 2 guys are the very essence of the blues. When I listen to what is being done today I say to myself that yes, it was really better before. I would so much like the young musicians of today to dwell more on this music in which we don't talk about format, but about feeling and authenticity... Another era, blessed by the gods of music. Thank you so much for sharing, really thank you!!!
Well said
Truth
These two guys are wired at the hip. The greatest one-two punch in the history of the Blues.
Was at this show in Boston at The Nightstage back in March 11.1989. Jr. Wells and Buddy Guy playing the blues the way two people really can. These two were made for each other.
I've got an autographed album, both junior and Buddy signed it. Love then ❤️
One lucky person you are.
Wells told the following story, printed on the cover of Hoodoo Man Blues: "I went to this pawnshop downtown and the man had a harmonica prices at $2.00. I got a job on a soda truck... played hookey from school ... worked all week and on Saturday the man gave me a dollar and a half. A dollar and a half! For a whole week of work. I went to the pawnshop and the man said the price was two dollars. I told him I had to have that harp. He walked away from the counter - left the harp there. So I laid my dollar-and-a-half on the counter and picked up the harp. When my trial came up, the judge asked me why I did it. I told him I had to have that harp. The judge asked me to play it and when I did he gave the man the 50 cents and hollered 'Case dismissed!'" (1948)
That's Justice!
Awesome story, cheers
Amazing. Thanks for sharing that!
LOVE JUNIOR WELLS AND BUDDY GUY ANNIE GRAMMAS
I love the blues born loveing it i like all biues singer mrs GRAMMAS
Buddy Guy is a legit blues legend. He has such an amazing attitude in his playing
The Original Blues Brothers.Junior would make all the club owners mad and Buddy would come smooth it over with that million dollar smile.
Sounds right ,I'd say if it wasn't for the ingredient (blues) .they was so good together CA SE they was so opposite ,seem like junior be uptight a bit ,and buddy be chillin like it's cool man
@@LonnieThompson-bd8do Junior was NOT a big fan of Whitey and he didn't hide it.
Saw Buddy and Junior in 1988, close to this time. Masterful skill and attitude in abundance. Great show
This is an amazing band!!
This has got to be one of the best blues performances I have ever seen. Well done!
Without a doubt!!!
I love 💘💘💘 ALL Buddy Guys songs, I love him and my Man is so much like him
I hate how life takes its toll on us. Rest in peace Mr. Wells.
Real music tell the truth about life and the soul of the matter. Awesome
Long live Buddy Guy.
The great Starfire IV period. Wild and wailing. And a so funky Jr Wells!
I hope these people know how lucky they were to see this show.
Man these cats are straight doing a dawm thing beautifuly now this is the blues
brilliant. its a time capsule of perfect music. brilliant
Tremendos exponentes del blues, geniales que más se puede pedir para disfrutar de buena música.....
Buddy was on fire
Grande eccellenza....Benedizione...
"There Was A Time" should be included in that James Brown finale, because that is precisely the guitar riff that Buddy Guy is playing.
I would have loved to have been there. ❤️🔥
Lol, that Jerry curl was slingin grease all over the place. Love these guys!
Thanks for this, I'm pretty sure I was there that night, I don't think I would have missed it. Nightstage was a great club, and Buddy is the best in the business.
Outrageous Great!!!!!
Cuando se cantaba mas por pasión que por dinero. Aquellos tiempos!!!

Who are the musicians in the band ? Thanks.
🤗
Mr Sentinel Bridge Blues Man
I prefer their acoustic sets, just Buddy and Junior. But this is great too.. :)
Come on. Baby dont wanna go ♫ ♫ ♫
Weird to see Buddy without a Strat. Sounds great.
For many years Buddy switched back and forward between the Strat and Guild Starfire IV. I always preferred his sound with the Guild, but his playing was always phenomenal whatever he played!
minuto 20:40 un precioso ejemplo de primera posición
🥀🌱😀💙
Did you guys ever meet Whitey Bulger lived in Somerville winter hill gang
I loved Junior. I saw these guys live several times when he was still around. He himself said he was more of a singer than a harp player, but I like what he did. Reminiscent of Sonny Boy II. Buddy, however, shreds too much on this to be enjoyable, at least to me.
I got to agree about Buddy; dude could play tasty as BB King when he wanted, but this was all showoff shit and not the blues.
hold on.. they'll be out there in a minute
damn who that cat on guitar who did the intro? He wailin' like Hubert Sumlin.
Thats Buddy Guy
@@bencurtis3780I think he's talking about the guy with the Les Paul???
@@jonnehayesjr.9299 It looks like an L6-S, designed for Gibson by Bill Lawrence - they're wider with a flat top, like a Les Paul that's been steamrollered.
As for the original question, someone in another post has suggested it's Phil Guy, Buddy's brother.
Abduzida!!
Really weird to see Buddy without his Strat.
That was when he was trying to get BB kings sound. He said he believes BB king is the best guitar player in the world. I think he realised no guitar will give him BBs sounds, buddy can capture his sound pretty good though on his strat when he doesnt over power it. Look up buddy guy bb king tribute
@@ASSman864 why would you want bb's tone when your buddy guy? I love bb dont get it twisted but buddy is the man. I'm still floored today by his playing even when he does go overboard. Tbh i love it when he goes nuts on I Smell a Rat. I get competition and want to expand as an artist causes players to try stuff to stay relevant but buddy was a legend from day one.
Buddy switched between Strat's and Guild Starfire IV's for many years. Buddy always sounds like Buddy, whatever guitar he plays. Certainly not trying to get BB's sound, much as he loved his playing.
The drummer looks like the young Buddy.
What's his name ?

sounds like Boston's dave maxwell on piano.
Bobby West is on piano. Also from Boston.
@@boogie02130 thanks ! I hadn't heard of bobby west. I'll try to keep my eye (and ear) out for him.
@@calvinsaxton9925 Haven't seen him in years but his brother Tom West has played with Tom Jones, Peter Wolf & many others. Done gigs with both of them. Talented players!
Them cracking each other up. Junior damn near fell off the stage.
TOM PIPPS FOAM- BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA USA HI HELLO &
At the time Buddy played better instruments like today, these thinny high treble Stratocaster with no balls.
I got to admit he sounds more refined and defined in models like he's using here.
@@jonnehayesjr.9299I've always preferred the sound of his Guild Starfire. Have you seen the live version of Crying Shame (aka Country Girl) from the Chicago Blues documentary? What great playing, and what a sound!
@@BackToTheBlues Can’t say that I have but it sounds like an awesome recommendation, I’ll have to check it out thanks.
@@jonnehayesjr.9299 you should find it if you look for 'Junior Wells Buddy Guy Crying Shame' - I hope you like it!
Likewise, Buddy's version of The First Time I Met The Blues from the same documentary is fantastic.
Most over rated harmonica player ever.
Then why are you here? Curious
Let me hear you do a better job
Junior was one of the very best!
Junior is my favourite. But I will admit, he doesn't really show it off when he's there to sing. But occasionally during a concert he does a run of notes that harp players don't usually do. But you need to have ten years experience on harp to even notice.. :)
On the contrary, one of the greatest ever on mouth organ. Their “Hoo Doo Man Blues” LP and several others are among the best blues records ever . Jr. knew that it’s not the number of (or speed of ) notes but the soul you play them with… Less is more. Very much a disciple of Sonny Boy Williamson #1. And one of the great stand-up blues singers ever in his own right. Most ridiculous comment of this young century. RIP, Junior.
