100% horse breaking: Press DOWN and HOLD the right joystick down, THEN move the stick in the direction the horse is moving, all while continuing to hold the joystick pressed down. As long as you move with horse direction and hold down, you'll never get bucked off and always break on first try. I tamed the Arabian up north in one go by following these directions from the game directly. If it's running forward, center the joystick and keep it pressed.
You got lucky. I use the same method and have broken a number in the first go but the Arabian was by *far* the toughest - it will reverse direction on a dime before you can react. Breaking a horse works a bit different than what is described in the video. It goes like this: Jump on, pull LEFT stick downwards and then pull LEFT stick in the opposite direction to what the horse is doing. So if the horse turns right u pull left. Doing it this way breaking horses is real easy.
Exactly. I can't imagine how much time they've wasted just hoping it won't buck them and then redoing it over and over. Like, just read the notification that explains it..
I got it just this weekend and let my little brother play it because he wanted to ride my horse. It was a mistake. He rode for five seconds then crashed into a tree, almost killing them both. He gave me the controller and I played for five minutes until I asked if he wanted to try again. He got on the horse, rode for about five seconds again, went straight over a cliff and they fell down. He somehow survived, but the horse did not. It was hilarious how one can fail so badly
you can lasso a horse hold it in place and calm it before you get on usually resulting in no struggle at all, also you can do challenges (like races) with your horse and boost its stats, the fastest horse in the game is the Thoroughbred.
Do you know if we can upgrade its stats multiple times through racing, or just once? Racers are so painfully rare for me that i havent been able to try.
I'm loving the horses in this game so much, but there was something I couldn't find info on. I've done some experimenting myself however. You can own up to 4 horses at a time: stable 3, and main 1. BUT, form a bond with a random horse, hitch it somewhere, and it will stay there, tagged as one of your horses on the map. IDK how long this will last, but a random shire I acquired during a quest has been hitched up through nearly two chapters for me now, soooo I might be able to go crazy and own as many horses as I want! >8D
DutchMilkMaid are you sure it was because it was a war horse? When i was riding a different horse, my horse also disappeared but appeared at the stables.
@@Conquerorsmindset I only know that I had 3 horses untied and un-stabled, one of which was my warhorse, and since that's a downloadable, it will always re-appear at the valentine stables. I'd put my saddle on one of the random horses, drove off a bit, and came back to finding my war horse had been reset. It was completely gone, and I had to get a fully reset, fresh new war horse from valentine. idk what would happen if it wasn't my war horse, but a random horse that disappeared. It might just be gone forever...
DutchMilkMaid can you really be able to own as many horses as your want? I’m desperately trying to find it out but I have not heard anything about owning more than one temporary horse. I would appreciate if you can share more on that topic with me. Thank you!

The health and stamina of your horse depends on its first level and bonding level, so say your horse's stamina and health level is 4 when you found it, and each Bond level it increases, Max Bond is 4 so the health core and stamina can get only to 8. I think that health greatly increases from throwing knife kills too, as for Arthur.
Aaron Daniel Donaldson Assuminng you’re talking about stats, you can’t max out your horse to speed 10. The maximum speed of a horse is 7 and only a few horses are capable of reach that speed. All horses varying in breed and sometimes coat have different stats. Work horses will have more stamina and HP as will war horses, whereas race horses have better handling and speed.
Pro tip when breaking horses. I'm on PS4 so not sure what the controls are for xbox but its what you would use to calm the horse as you approach it. Tap X (on ps4 controller again) and move the left control stick backwards and forwards every 2 seconds. The horse will not be able to buck you off.
If you hop onto the back of a wild horse, while it's bucking, tilt the left analog stick downward and into the opposite direction the horse is facing. It is actually extremely easy this way, and you shouldn't get kicked off if you are doing it right.

From the gang's horse breeds only exact same colour you can find is Sean's American Standardbred, Hosea's Turkoman, Kirean's horse I forgot to breed is and Javier's American Paint. Both of them sold in Tumbleweed Stable which is good.
I miss the RDR1 horse finding system. There were multiple rarer breeds of horses in different biomes. I believe they also functioned better in their respective environments.
Yeah I'm tired of only seeing Morgans, Tennessee Walkers, etc. Really wish the variety in horses and colors were more for earlier stages. Now everyone is just riding the White Arabian horse you find by the lake ... sick move Rockstar
I have both the Arabian ( Black ) and T Walker. But my bond with TW has grown so much that I don't like any other horse. She's a really good horse and that one time when we fell of a small cliff, I lost my shit. Since I had horse reviver I easily revived her. If not it would have been an emotionally tiring situation.
I had a horse with a lvl 4 bond already, while hunting for one of the legendary animals I saw a bunch of wild horses in the area, I got curious, and realized you can tame these wild horses, or in this case “break”.. I was approaching one slowly while calming it constantly and never ran off, I then jumped onto it and it began to Thrash around while I was mounted on it, I couldn’t even read the tips and I had no idea what to do. Next thing I knew, the horse was calm and controllable.
He forgot the best tips. While walking your horse you can pat by pressing the left stick, this will increase bonding without having to stop. When you gallop you can recharge the stamina of most horses by clicking the left stick. Click the stick every twenty seconds or so, and if you tap the A button with the rhythm of the horse you can go full speed indefinitely, you'll never need to use stimulants.
I haven't heard anyone mention this in their videos, but did you know that you can double tap the square button and your horse will jump. it will jump in place if you're not moving, or it will jump over things if you are moving. It will jump on its own too, but I didn't know you can make it jump.
You can also get a black Arabian by the picture show that's next to the police station in saint Denis. You have to wait until after 2 or 3 in the morning.
For my horse he is a black American Standardbred stallion he has a black saddle and saddle bag and then the saddle pad and stirrups are gold and those two combination colors look so good on that beautiful stallion in my opinion
Also if you don't feed your horse regularly its weight will drop and it will get too skinny. People will notice and its cores drain faster. You can see in the horse stat menu if your horse is fit or thin.
So if I had to an oil wagon, had to get off my horse and then drop the wagon off at destination. I have to RUN all the way back to a “wanted” zone to get my horse???
Hold the calm and sprint button at the same time and stamina drains slower than if you tap sprint, but it seems like it drains the core slightly faster, I assume because the stamina regen from calming drains stamina core.
4:07 damn never been bucked of you have to put joystick in opposite direction to the way the horse turns and press calm repeatedly it's quicker than approaching it
Question... Im in xbox. When I uae LT and Feed the horse, it randomly feeds some hay ir oatmeal. When I want to feed an apple, I end up eating it myself. How can I feed an apple to my horse?
Ik i'm half a year late but go to the item wheel and go to the horse section, in the middle row press LT or RT to select the food you want to feed your trusty nag.
when going full speed hit the "square" on ps4, the horse will stop on a dime and then when you let off it will take back off again with a boost of energy. I personally think the fox trotter is the best horse. its total stats of health, speed, stamina etc etc all make it a fine horse. theres more involved with a horse than the stats the game shows. with it being a hybrid between a war horse and a work horse it doesn't spook as easy and calms down quicker than the Arabian.
I had a Tennessee walker white-ish horse. Because of its coat she sorta looked like a character that I loved very dearly. I named her Lady Maria. I never changed my horse at all. When I was approaching the end stages of chapter 6, I fucking cried. Won't say any spoilers but some of you may know what I'm talking about. But, shit that was such an emotional moment. She was such a good horse. :(
There’s an easier Arabian to break near the grizzly east if I remember correctly . It’s called the Red Fury. Can’t remember if it had the same stats as the white bolt but yeah just letting ya know
Do R1+Square while holding L2 +D-pad Up + R2 at will... You will do a wheelie plus shoot to the Air like a true bandit. That makes most carriages and strangers to freak out and stop for a second or 2, enough to score your loot or shoot holes into people's heads. Also while aiming + square and left joystick to the left or right, Arthur dives into the ground almost like rolling in GTA V.
My first horse, Rootin Tootin, sadly died because of the Romeo and Juliet type mission with the greys and braithwaites where you drive the train, she fell off and it was horrible when I whistled for my horse and I checked the map to only see the saddle. I went and bought another horse, for a staggering $950, and bonded with my new girl Righteous before I did any more missions. It’s sad when your horse dies, i didn’t want to ruin my immersion by just going back to an old save, so I figured Arthur would get another horse and then get close with her as well.
01:43 Well actually ¨piaff¨ is a movement in wich the horse is trotting while standing still, what youre doing is called ¨Lateral work¨ (I think, I'm not a native Engilsh speaker) *Flies away*
Forgot to mention how your horse can follow you. it even works with 2 horses. I caught a wild horse and tried to ride it to the stables and had my main horse follow me (have the main horse follow cuz it’s likely more bonded than the new one) and on the way to the stables I got mobbed by some gang members and wanted to take their stage coach to the fence to sell. Just riding my temporary horse for a little bit and feeding it brought it to a high enough level where it can follow me too so I had both my main and temp horse follow me to the fence to sell the stagecoach and then was able to take it to the stables. also works really well if you wanna carry more than 1 animal carcass
The craftable saddles help with make your core drain rates slower for the horse it’s on I have the panther saddle and the alligator saddle they look nice and help a good bit
Trick I found is when the horse is dying and asks for revive; I created a camp ground (without sleeping). Once I was done with the camp, the dying horse automatically responded healthy. Have not tried again to see if it works all the time. Hope it works for everyone
We send our condolences to all your horses accidentally killed by trees.

Jump on, pull LEFT stick downwards and then pull LEFT stick in the opposite direction to what the horse is doing.
“I’m sure you heard all about horse balls at this point” 10/10 intro 😂
R.I.P Whiskey (my white Arabian I've had since the game came out a year ago till I finished it last week) I'll always love you
you can lasso a horse hold it in place and calm it before you get on usually resulting in no struggle at all, also you can do challenges (like races) with your horse and boost its stats, the fastest horse in the game is the Thoroughbred.
Do you know if we can upgrade its stats multiple times through racing, or just once? Racers are so painfully rare for me that i havent been able to try.
Droppin a deuce right now
Where can you find races?
@@chaxeriic9787 random encounters.
if you get another "temporary horse" your current one will despawn.
@@figjam9530 Yeah, I figured that out today. Thankfully it was my war horse, so I could pick it up again at the stables ^^''
Thank you!
My horse is called tesco
😂 😂 😂 Smashed it bro, legend top gear episode
Lmfao soo is mine
0:24 I remember now that's how me and Bo met. I named him Bo and I'm on chapter 3 and kept him as my main horse ever since
Tip: instead of skidding when you need to stop immediately, just press R1 and square then it will stop immediately and rear.
Tip: you have to be bond 3
I know this video is old and everything, I just decided to watch it cause it popped up on my recommendations while I was bored lol. Anyways I've been playing this game for years, and have beaten the game numerous times, but I never knew that a level 4 horse takes 60 minutes to die until this video. So I learned something new today lol, you're getting a like and subscribe just for that alone. Good video, keep up the good work my man.👏
What horse do you use for online. Im like lvl 73, and use the white arabian with the best saddle and stir upps
@@elsalvador1489 to be honest man I don't even play online, I live out in the woods so they can't run a wire to me for me to be able to get internet cause I'm to far from city limits. If I lived somewhere closer to town I sure would play online, but unfortunately I can't where I live right now.
How to you get health/stamina to level 10 and how do you max out the horses speed to 10? QUESTIONS
It's possible to get speed at 10/10. Keep winning the race random event and you'll gain an extra speed point for all horses.
The only horse that can do that is the rose grey arabian
Pro tip when breaking horses. I'm on PS4 so not sure what the controls are for xbox but its what you would use to calm the horse as you approach it. Tap X (on ps4 controller again) and move the left control stick backwards and forwards every 2 seconds. The horse will not be able to buck you off.
OMG! Thank you for this tip!
Spent ages trying to break that white coat Arabian horse in the snowy mountians, tried this method worked first time.
Can we get an F in the chat for my thoroughbred Zee, he got hit by a train😭
My red Ardennes met the same fate

If you hop onto the back of a wild horse, while it's bucking, tilt the left analog stick downward and into the opposite direction the horse is facing. It is actually extremely easy this way, and you shouldn't get kicked off if you are doing it right.
It’s a lot easier for me to lasso the horse calm it and get on it and brush it and then it’s mjne
I gave a LIKE for all the times you were bucked off, and I subscribed because you showed it!!
Ha I've been naming all my mares "Roach" also!
It's kinda what Seaworld does with their orcas (Shamu).

same!
why ?

So I would basically mostly play this game for the horses and the views, not going to lie!
When i tame a horse i just keep turning it on right or left and pressing the slow done button at the same time and ofc calming it during this. Works everytime

‘Based on my extensive research.’
Pmsl.
The free white Arabian horse is like the free adder in GTA five
I’m assuming that all horses have pre set stats for stamina and health. So, then as you bond you get a little boost of those stats right?
Right
also saddle and stirrups improve your horses stats
Did any of you guys also experienced your horse just randomly stumble down for no reason? it happened to me yesterday
4:30 My god, the same thing happen to me
I prefer the Nakota breed or the Mustang. They're strong and sturdy, not too big or too small, and their stats are just right.
Idk why people try and get such fancy horses. I always kill mine by accident every like 3-5 days.
Because they don't get into accidents as often or they take really good care of them.
Mr. Coelophysics true. I still think it’s a waste.
@@supergbonin it's only a waste for yourself cause you can't ride it properly. It's clearly not a waste for anyone else. It's funny how you're trying to put others down because of your shitty playing

@@supergbonin awe don't project and get mad at *me* cause you can't read too far
When taming a horse, just move your direction at the exact opposite of the horse's direction. Like the horse going left, u should be pushing your analog stick to the right, so forth. Tamed the White Arabian horse on my first try.
I don't understand how people have such a hard time with this. Literally read what the game tells you. The Arabian was the first horse I tamed and I did it the first try.
@@dosicmyth Probably other people are too focused on the game that they hardly read what the game tells u. Same, the Arabian was my first tamed horse cuz i wanted a white one after seeing Dutch's than UA-cam recommendations has a video of where to find a white horse, checked the map location and went for it without watching the whole video.
In chapter one the first horse that you ever get I'm keeping him I love him he's so sweet I love the Mahogany Bay Tennessee Walker we were near horseshoe Overlook so we were just riding there minding our own business and the next thing we know we were being attacked by the O'Driscoll's so we were running through the water and my horse collided into a rock we both fell to the ground and we both got up and gone away from the O'Driscoll's so a few of a few days we were near strawberry and we're being attacked by the O'Driscoll's and somehow he managed to get away again so it is safe for me to say that the Mahogany Bay Tennessee Walker is my guardian angel plus in chapter 3 when you go rob the bank in Valentine I thought the mission with a bunch of other horses and they did not make it over the track before the train that however I did it with the Mahogany Bay Tennessee Walker he made it so he's sweet little horns and he can get things done and I can rely on him
Piaffe is actually a movement in which the horse trots in place. What you're actually doing is called side passing or leg yielding.
I'll watch this video when RDR2 comes to PC
its never happening lol
If you hit the log button right when you mount a horse it will break it without throwing you. When you remain in logbook the horse will buck for a couple of minutes with you locked on then eventually stop . Leave the logbook and enjoy your horse.

false info, it's a dressage movement that many people just call dancing when really you just get the horse to trot in place, literally one google search or going to any dressage expert would get you this info
you are right @jackal the bat pony
And what they do in the game really isn't a piaffe, it's more of a side pass
@@StarlitesExotics if its stood still and trotting on the spot its called piaffe,, but you can also use this button press to make the horse do a half pass as well.
Piaffer is the infinitive of the verb to stamp one's foot in FR, so what you say makes perfect sense.
Major tip: you can only have one main horse and one temporary horse outside if your stable is full. Any temporary horse you acquire after that will cause your other one to disappear for good. That's how I lost Arlandria, my War Horse.
WARNING! If you revive your horse 3 times you cannot revive them anymore! THEY DIE FOREVER! R I P ROACH 2!
*EDIT* I can confirm that your horse perma-dies if he touches a train, head on or just niks it. This may be how Roach 2 died forever
Jonymankitty it could probably mean that you don’t have any more horse reviver on you because you can only have 3 at a time
my horse got killed a bunch of times and he still here
Or you just run out of horse reviver
@@danemalakai9425 no, I had horse reviver, i even went into the nearest town to purchase some, only to find out I had max. Must have been a glitch
Oh no I have one more time
If y'all hate how big the game is and how long it takes to get to point a to point b. Use the cinematic camera which allows your horse to run on its own set the location and set your controller down while you play on your phone for untill you get there no need to waste money of fast travel.. so watch the tv tho sometimes your horse will get you killed..
Its not strife its cauld leg yielding or latral work
Martin Hague well they call it ”drifting” in the game, so who gives a fuck.

Martin Hague man that horses head looks inbred as fuck. Arabian? That dish looks fuckin atrocious lmao. Arabian horse lovers are the biggest asshats out here y’all. Don’t be surprised he’s making it know to y’all that he’s an expert.
@@adamgeigerjr6995 you know a game is good when someone's complaint is about a horse color 🤣
I have both the Arabian ( Black ) and T Walker. But my bond with TW has grown so much that I don't like any other horse. She's a really good horse and that one time when we fell of a small cliff, I lost my shit. Since I had horse reviver I easily revived her. If not it would have been an emotionally tiring situation.
hahaha honestly though .. this game is phenomenal. already 84 hours in and only just started Chapter 3. My game of the year by far
They will add way more horses on the online mode
I had a horse with a lvl 4 bond already, while hunting for one of the legendary animals I saw a bunch of wild horses in the area, I got curious, and realized you can tame these wild horses, or in this case “break”.. I was approaching one slowly while calming it constantly and never ran off, I then jumped onto it and it began to Thrash around while I was mounted on it, I couldn’t even read the tips and I had no idea what to do. Next thing I knew, the horse was calm and controllable.
My favorite is the turkoman I believe of is the most well rounded a jack of all trades if you may
You can save at bottom left nipple of lake Isabella and reload - the horse will always be there, stay on the road that surrounds the lake.
Well done. Subscribed. It is so refreshing not to have a RDR2 narrator who simply loves to hear himself speak!
I found rearing the horse useful for near instant stops as opposed to sliding.
You don’t move the joystick with the movement you do the opposite. Example: if the horse is pulling left you keep your joystick right
He forgot the best tips.
You should always stock up on horse reviver at the stable
I haven't heard anyone mention this in their videos, but did you know that you can double tap the square button and your horse will jump. it will jump in place if you're not moving, or it will jump over things if you are moving. It will jump on its own too, but I didn't know you can make it jump.
The most important lesson about horses in this game: If he dies, he dies
Unless if its rdr online, you both die and the horse comes back again after respawn 🤷♂️
Guess I wasn't the only one who named all of my horses Roach
Also if you don't feed your horse regularly its weight will drop and it will get too skinny. People will notice and its cores drain faster. You can see in the horse stat menu if your horse is fit or thin.
You don't use right stick, you pull the left stick down and rotate it to down-left or down-right to counter the horse turning.
Dude I didn’t even know that the white Arabian was the best horse you can get in chapter 2. I just thought that she looked cool
So if I had to an oil wagon, had to get off my horse and then drop the wagon off at destination. I have to RUN all the way back to a “wanted” zone to get my horse???
Hold the calm and sprint button at the same time and stamina drains slower than if you tap sprint, but it seems like it drains the core slightly faster, I assume because the stamina regen from calming drains stamina core.
try pushing the left thumb-stick down (calming) mid-gallop gives the horse stamina back, works every 25/30s. (lvl4 horse)
4:07 damn never been bucked of you have to put joystick in opposite direction to the way the horse turns and press calm repeatedly it's quicker than approaching it
LoL .. the way you fell of them horses .. but great video .. great tips .. I just subbed and smacked the like button
Question...
@@kawhiaheughghhaugha6894 yeah, I had plenty of time to figure it out. Thanks anyway:)
when going full speed hit the "square" on ps4, the horse will stop on a dime and then when you let off it will take back off again with a boost of energy.
Rearing is mainly to keep you from running off a cliff.
If someone steals your horse, whistle to make your horse rear and the thief will be bucked off.
also, you can speed up bonding with a horse by pressing down the left analog stick every 10 seconds or so while you're riding it.
Thanks for letting me know what i need to do with my old horse when i mount a new one. Very helpful of you
I can't wait to get this I have the first red dead redemption game for four years now and when I saw they were releasing a second one I was amazed 😍
Can’t remember if it had the same stats as the white bolt but yeah just letting ya know
If you have horse reviver in your inventory you can shoot them with a poison arrow. After you shoot it, run up and revive it. Jump on and hang on
Do R1+Square while holding L2 +D-pad Up + R2 at will...
Great video.. Straight forward.. Concise..knowledgeable
01:43 Well actually ¨piaff¨ is a movement in wich the horse is trotting while standing still, what youre doing is called
¨Lateral work¨ (I think, I'm not a native Engilsh speaker) *Flies away*
For taming them you just have to lean the opposite direction to the horse and keep clicking calm.
The BEST thing about RDR is watching regular gamers become horse experts.
Trick I found is when the horse is dying and asks for revive; I created a camp ground (without sleeping). Once I was done with the camp, the dying horse automatically responded healthy. Have not tried again to see if it works all the time. Hope it works for everyone
