Blanca Paloma's song is a play, a performance made to be represented and with the staging it makes sense, using Spanish (Lorca) but also universal symbolic references. It is an invocation, a call, a song to what makes us feel safe and strong at the same time, which makes us enter a hypnotic trance.
She relates it to her grandmother, to that maternal thing that takes care of us and protects us. The red fringes that hang down and that she already explained were engraved on her grandmother's shawl, form a circle that is like a maternal womb that illuminates and nourishes us. She goes through the uterus that is fertilized (this is how I understand those hands that surround her and hold her for a few seconds). Then the miracle of life is done.
The moon is the symbol of the feminine, which engenders, nourishes and makes it grow. It is present every night except when it goes out on a new moon. During the performance, the sound "ea, ea" is repeated loudly and rhythmically, which is the lullaby that mothers sing to children when they are afraid, when they cry, to reassure them and give them strength. Nothing bad is going to happen... The dancers also imitate the movement of the arms that they cradle in a spasmodic way. It looks like a sway of waves... Because the sea also lulls and transforms with the phases of the moon and is the quintessential feminine element. The base that sounds below the telluric song and the allusions to the heartbeat complete the visual and sound elements of the set.
This song is a song to life and a work of art. Win or not, it will not leave anyone indifferent and it will be difficult to forget..

So this is my favorite out of the 15 songs we have right now and learning the lyrics meanings played a big part in loving the entry more than on first few go arounds, but even initially, I couldn't deny the staging, the voice, the obvious thought that went into the choreography, like, everything I was seeing on screen was working as one. And then learning what it was about just put another level higher.

Flamenco and its sub gender are an art. This is not for spotify summer hit but an statement made from Spain with its huge cultural and ethnic heritage. In my country we go to opera houses or theater to appreciate this music. This song is everything but flat. You have to listen the singer's voice, it's a roller coaster. I am so glad Spain did not got stuck in pop songs as Cyprus and dare to send this masterpiece. Its unique, hypnotique, different, art.

EAEA is a flamenco lullaby. Éa éa is an onomatopoeia that Spanish mothers do to calm their children while they are crying. The song tells the story of a mother who wants to be buried in the moon when she dies to see her child every night except one (the new moon day). She wears more clothes than women from Spain usually wear in eurovision? Considering that I am a woman from Spain not sure if I should be offended by that comment...by the way, that's flamenco, which has Gipsy roots, not Arab roots. Gipsies in Spain come from India. Our music doesn't have Arab roots, it has Jewish, celtic and Indian roots

The detail of the archer (that gesture that she makes as if she were shooting an arrow 🏹) is a wink that Blanca Paloma wanted to introduce in this staging because last year she also did it in her previous participation in the Benidorm Fest and it was very popular among the public. I mean, it doesn't really have any direct relationship or special meaning in this year's song. Anyway, I think it's a very striking and intriguing gesture that gives strength to her performance.

Hi from Spain! Thanks for your comments on Blanca Paloma’s song EaEa, a sort of modern flamenco piece, very touching when you get to know the lyrics, that I will translate for you below. ‘Ea ea’ is an expression mothers say repetitively when holding a baby on her arms to calm them down or make them asleep.
Here you’ve got the lyrics. Cheers!
    yeah, yeah yeah, yeah (hey)
Oh, come to me, my child (now)
Oh, come to me, my child
    sleep next to me
That in my chest there is shelter
    Little coat for your sorrow
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
Tears of the Nile, sleepless nights
My child, when I die bury me in the moon
And every night I see you
And every night I see you
And every night I see you
    Every night except one (hey)
Oh, come to me, my child
(oh, my child, my little one)
    Little of my loved ones
that in the night do your sunny eyes illuminate me
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
Tears of the Nile, sleepless nights
My child, when I die bury me in the moon
And every night I see you
And every night I see you
And every night I see you
My child, when I die bury me in the moon
And every night I see you
    Every night except one
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
Tears of the Nile, sleepless nights
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea
    Ya, eaea, ya, eaea

You guys said last year that Chanel’s performance was rubbish and she was 3rd right after UK. This year the Scottish wanker makes fun of a Andalusian lullaby that touches you to the core. I’ll take it as a good omen for Blanca Paloma. And by the way, the lyrics are a grieving lullaby from a woman who either cannot conceive or has just lost her baby. And her name it doesn’t mean white pigeon but DOVE. You’re welcome.

For some reason, you only hear what you want to hear: Tyler says very clearly that her voice is awesome, that the harmonies are fantastic and that he likes the song, although he mentions he would like it to have more dynamics ( which I understand as the song is "forte" from beginning to end) and that she doesn't look very comfortable in her high heel shoes (which it's not a terrible thing to say).
Also, I agree with Maya's comment about Blanca's breathing throughout the song, but I think this may be because of a technical problem as the backing music should have had, in my opinion, more volume and lower down the vocal volume because it's true that you can hear clearly every breath she is taking.
And I don't think they are disrespectful at all: It's clear they like the song (especially Rebecca).

    - The song genre is a '𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑖́𝑎' (kind of a specific subgenere of flamenco) with electronic touches.
    - The lyrics of the song is a 𝑙𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑦.
'éa éa' is an onomatopeia in Spain we use to calm childrens while they are crying.

Quite complicated piece to analyse if you do not have a littke background. For the dear scotish collegue
: the reason why is so " flat/shallow" is because this is a lullaby, intended to induce trance or make a baby sleep. The lyrics are actually deceivingly simple. With a lot of cultural and litererature references disguised as simple words from a mum coeing her baby.

How about reacting to the 16 songs for Benidorm Fest 2024? The Spanish appear to be spoilt for choice. All the songs are available on YT :))

I am Spanish myself and I agree with the Scottish guy 100%. Nobody can deny that she has a great voice or that there is a lot of work and talent into the performance but it is annoyingly flat and shallow. It is like the voice and the atmosphere created builds some expecations throughout the performance which are never really met, so you keep watching and waiting for an explosive crescendo which is simply not there.
As much potential as I think this performance or Blanca Paloma could have, I really find that it leaves you with a weird feeling of disappointment while still acknowledging that it is good.

  • @justiziero
    @justiziero Рік тому +3

I'm Spanish and at first my thoughts were totally related to the man (I don't know his name sorry) if you analyze the song properly, you realise that is kind of flat, because it is repetitive, and the beat doesn't change at all in the whole song, so this is my biggest disappointment. I think it would be great to increase the differences between each part with more changes in the beat, the key on the last chorus, different harmonies in the last chorus too ..I don't know, but I would like to watch a noticeable in crescendo, I hope they change some things for Eurovision.
Apart from that, the song is kind of epic, with very cultural roots, she has so much passion, her voice is so good and the whole show makes a logic performance if you understand the meaning from it.
I would change some little things, like some steps in the choreography. For example, the first time she is on her knee when it comes the soft part singing to the moon, the second time I would do it differently, like sit down or on a platform rising up.
I love her outfit, it's so modern and unique, but I would wear a long beautiful dress with typical signs from flamenco and then the backing vocals singers pull from it and show this kind of modern outfit, like an evolution of flamenco and showing all her strength and self confidence.
And yes, Blanca Paloma means white Pidgeon, which I think it's a really memorable name, I hope she wins and brings the peace to Ukraine (because that's the meaning of a white Pidgeon, peace) ♥️🕊️

The first pair of hands symbolizes the child in the womb and from there the baby goes to the second pair of hands forming the straight surface of the cradle on which the child is lying afterwards. Likewise, a person on the surface of the moon finally ends up transformed into an eye that from there lovely contemplates his son.
