Mountain Bike Destinations: Moab
It’s officially Spring, and you know what that means? It’s time to plan your next MTB adventure!
In 2016 I was lucky to find myself riding trails all across the United States. Because of that, I get a ton of messages and comments asking for recommendations on to take the next MTB vacation.
Today, I’m starting a series aimed at sharing my favorite mountain bike destinations from my travels. I’ll tell you all about what made my experience there so great as well as information on the must ride trails, campsites you can stay at, where to get the best food and beer, fun activities off the bike, and even some sneaky pro tips I found along the way.
Moab
Moab, although is no secret as a mtb destination, holds a special place on my list because it was the first trip that I took with both Brian from BXKC and Seth of Seth’s Bike Hacks. This was the trip where we all realized how well we jelled and really opened our eyes to the amazing possibilties for not just our future UA-cam collaborations, but also to our new found friendship. This, combined with some of the most technical and unique single track I have ever ridden made for one hell of an epic mountain bike trip.
The must have ride here is without a doubt The Whole Enchilada. Touting the lofty title of one of the world’s greatest rides, The Whole Enchilada absolutely delivered - and we didn’t even get to ride the entire thing! With an astounding 8,000 feet of descent and everything from high alpine to sandstone canyon, fast and smooth to technical and gnarly, The Whole Enchilada is an amazingly diverse ride that showcases everything Moab has to offer.
Speaking of things to offer - Being an established ride destination does have its perks. Moab has amazing facilities that helped me get by on a low budget the first time I visited with my brother. In addition to plenty of free camping on BLM land outside of town, Moab has an awesome Public library that I was able to use for internet and work. Moab also has a pretty great dirt jump set and skate park right in town so that you can properly get injured before even heading to the trail.
For those of you with a family, Moab may be especially appealing due to the plethora of activities to keep the groms busy while your out shredding. I recommend checking out the awesome National Parks available at Arches and Canyonlands. For an especially dope view head up to the Delicate Arch at sunset and grab a seat: the show is amazing. Another hike I thoroughly enjoyed was the one to the Morning Glory Land bridge. This hike is outside the National parks so there is no fee, and includes some pretty stellar scenery all on a hike that isn’t too long even for your weary bike legs. Another favorite of the Moab scene the offered jeeping and ATV. I was fortunate enough to experience this thrill with our friend Randall who took us out for some hair raising excursions in his jeep, but you can hire guides just the same.
I don’t know about you, but after riding, I’m always in a hurry to clean off and grab some food. There is a pretty cool little spot back at the Mill Creek Trail where you can rinse off, have a beer and hangout, and do a little cliff diving. It can be a little crowded here, but I still thought it was a good time. For food, my two favorite spots were without a doubt the delicious burgers at Milt’s and the Moab diner.
Another trail that I recommend in Moab is Captain Ahab. This is a newer trail and is a great 2 hour loop with varied riding and great views. If you are looking to really send it, you may want to head out to the Bartlett Wash ferried area. Here, you will find endless free ride options that can get pretty hairy, so make sure to do some research first and take a friend or someone that knows the area.
Live Free, Ride Hard, and…. start planning!!!

This is the mountain bike edition of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations!
If that is true, then I'd say I'm on track - because I freakin' loved that show!
You're personality suits that style of video ver well! And yes that show is badass!
watching this video is making my trip to Moab next month more exciting 😁😁😁
Great concept, these guides are gold. Looking forward to seeing many more!

Yeaaa buddy, you gonna get out and ride??
The Singletrack Sampler yeah of course
Great video and great idea for a series. Looking forward to more of these. Nice addition to your channel.
Thanks RJ! I knew there was something there as I am always exploring new places and you guys are always asking what I thought of X place, so I'm happy to put it together and help out prospective travelers! (and anyone that just wants to get a taste of what it's like there)
Awesome idea for a video series! Can't wait for more, getting me stoked for summer trips!
this new series is so spot on ! Btw you have uncanny ability of editing and getting everyone stoked to go hit up local stuff, thanks again for the regular guy content, seems you have a great idea with this new series!
Soooo sick bro!! Awesome video as always!! I reckon no one could edit and film with the same unique, entertainingly sweet style as you dude. Keep rippin
Thanks bro! That really means a lot 👊 👊
Rock on!
Way to cover it all! I’m headed to Moab next weekend and want to make the most of my time! This helps! Thank you!
These are a great concept. Looking forward to more of these
Thanks Jonathan, glad you like this pilot for the series man!
Awesome idea for a series, definitely looking forward to it.
This looks like an awesome series!
Thanks for the video! A little late for me as I was just there weeks ago but I definitely didn't miss some of those options riding or other. It may be a little bit of a cliche but you really have to be there to experience how amazing it is so it definitely worth going. Once again, great video. I can't wait for more of this series!
Thanks Seth!! It's probably good that this is late as the temp while you were there was probably perfect. It's gonna start heating up quick now!
Alex, dude this series is so cool! Plus hearing you demonstrating every part, it sooo good :) Keep doing it man!
YES! Love to hear that when I try something new 👍 🍻
I'll definitely be making more of these as I get back on the road.
Just wanted to voice my support and say this is a great concept for a series! Concise, relevant, and informative, rock on dude. This is perfect.
I appreciate you taking the time to say that dude! I really enjoyed making it too, and look forward to more episodes this season!
!
Alex man your videos get me super stoked to rip. Your Moab trip in the fall got me so pumped up I took my own trip to Moab a few weeks ago. Captain Ahab, Mag 7 Klondike Bluffs was the best riding of my life. Thanks for putting it out there, I know it takes a lot of work to produce quality content.
That was really cool to watch! I've been to Moab several times and this opened my eyes to seeing what else is out there to do. Awesome Video man! Can't wait for more 🤘🏽
Thanks dude! 👊 🚵 🍻
Great post yo !!
Congrats on your work 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
*** I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be doing a LIVE STREAM this coming Monday, but am still deciding on the time. Just curious, what's best for everyone???? ***
What's up guys!!! Happy Hump Day to all, hope the week is treatin' you right with some time out on the singletrack already.
I really hope you all enjoy this new series as I plan to continue it this season while moving around to different ride locations I think are really worthwhile. Shred on my friends!
loved the last one with your Dad. GO ARMY!!!!!!! love your vids, i might be too old for air but, feck it..... give me mountains and a bike!
Great recap! Love it....good series idea, thanks!
Great video Alexander. Nice idea to mention the hikes and other activities. Cheers bro!
Thanks dude! A great truly epic ride isn't complete without some delicious grub and brew afterwards 🍻 😋
Nice video, really motivating and information for someone about to pull the trigger on planning a trip to MOAB sometime this year.
Do it! You won't regret it
Great video, Alexander.
Great video, really made me smile and remember my trip there in 2015 with my wife. Among all the things we did was a guided ride at Dead Horse State Park, Intrepid Trail. Less than three months later we both bought bikes!
Cant wait to get some Pisgah, North Carolina action next month!! Heard that it's epic😜. So glad your back in the saddle bro🤙
Love the idea brodie!
Great new series!
Enjoyed your riding in others videos but somehow didn't realize you had your own channel. Great overview of Moab. Subbed!
Dude! You fixed tooth looks great man. Few year back I chipped my front tooth and loved to mess around like I was a hillbilly, but it always kinda bothered me. Anyhow- so stoked to see you back and exploring new formats. This video was great!
I love how you did this video and look forward to this series!! Hopefully you do a Sedona one!
Fantastic first instalment of where to go biking for a killer time all around. Moab is on my bucket list for sure
Thanks Peter! I think Asheville is up next!
Thanks for the video I thoroughly enjoyed this!!!
Thanks ! this perfect . Details of adventure biking is what we need . following you from BKXC .
Love the concept! Get well soon, mate!
Can't wait to get out there this summer!
Best video of far! You're rocking it.
Thanks Brian! I'm definitely working on 💪 my editing chops while off the bike, and I think it will provide a good mix to add some of these in with riding videos once back on the bike. Stoked you enjoyed 🍻
Awesome video! Moab will happen for me, and sooon...... This got me stoked for a ride - later!!
Love it. Get shreddly coach!
dope video, glad your releasing content. You are an entertaining dude--even with a broken wing. One day you will ride your metal steed again to Valhalla!
Nice work on this vid!
(a.k.a. Dlopeparo) - Big THANK YOU to you and your buddies (Brian, Phil, and Seth). Had a stellar ride today and in better condition than ever because of your channel. You and the others kept me motivated to continue my off-season conditioning on my boring ass trainer and to mentally prepare for more aggressive riding. I've never rode better in my life (I am 46 years old). Keep up the great work. THANK YOU!
That Moab trail is crazy as hell... I will really look forward to riding it...
You are in my top 2 favorite MTB vloger on!
Great first episode!
sick vid man
Keep them coming, I would love to ride all the trails mentioned!
Heading to Moab this weekend so I went back in time a little and watched your video... What a difference 2 years make!!! You look so much more confident today in front of the camera. lol ( ;
Awesomeness dude
Good stuff. My favorite from last year was in Pisgah National Forest. Combining 3 trails Trace Ridge, Spencers Gap, and Fletcher Creek. Climbing was brutal but the downs were epic! Perfect mix if you do all 3. Tech, Flow and just all out speed!
awesome video!
You are spot on mate, I am just back from 6 days in Moab and it was a total blast, and I live in Montreal Quebec Canada!
Planning to go back in October!
Keep on the good work!
Moab 'Whole Enchilada' looks like a galaxy far far away from Kingdom Trails. Are those side drop offs as intimidating in reality as they are viewed from the GoPro perspective? Not as if that'd keep me away from that bucket list trail.
John Saccoccio Ha ha. Actually it is scary only if you look.....
love the new series format! Keep it up bro. as per your question on trails... favourite trail last year deffo 'Dirt Merchant' in Whistler and trail i look forward to riding most this year? its gotta be Dirt Merchant! lol just how it is!
I'm gonna make the trip from Nevada to Utah just cause of this video. Thanks, Sampler.
Very enjoyable Alex aka mtbj hope your back on the bike soon.
Great video! You are an excellent story teller. I'm trying to remember what my favorite ride was last year but there were so many good times had. I'd probably say it was either a particular ride at Annadale in Santa Rosa, Ca or a new local trail that I didn't know about called Flemming Meadows in Polluck Pines, Ca. Neither was a super "epic" ride. Just the company and the time spent was epic. My goal last year was the same as this year. Try to break the creature of habit and ride new places. I'm hoping the channel helps me get to more new ones this year than last! None-the-less, I'm stoked watching you post regularly again. Can't wait for you to hit your first trail this year!
Sometimes a great ride has nothing to do with the trail and everything to do with the company. Stoked you enjoyed the first episode man, I'm excited to continue it for sure.
I like this man!
I love this new series, great idea. Any chances you have one for around the philly area.
Awesome!
Going to Moab Friday! Keep up the great videos Alexander!!!
Huck yea!!! Have a great time and do an extra lap (or beer) for me!
Sounds good... thinking about doing Navajo Rocks all the way down the Portal... I'll have videos to follow.
I really like the Scorpion trail at Temuco, Chile... Greatings bro, ride hard!!
hey Alex great vid. if you ever do another guide on Moab definitely mention slick rock trail just outside of town it is amazing and not to hard. but still has those little spots that are awsome.
You know it bro... gotta stay planning! Pisgah trails memorial day weekend oh yea
location envy! nothing like that here in Ireland. hoping to get riding in Bend,OR in the next year or so. Keep up the good work.
So fun to watch, yeah Moab is on my short term 5yr. goal list. I have to say though, that the 15 mi. loop at the Chilhowee Trail System in Benton, TN. had to be my favorite ride of 2016! Looking forward to some more awesome rides and maybe a few races too. Remember to Live-Life-Loud!!!
Chilhowee huh? I may be riding in TN this season sometime, and I'll make sure to look that up!
dude, i am really hoping to visit this place this summer.
Nice!!! The idea for this series is... Exactly one of my top reason to follow folks riding at different locations in UA-cam.
Lol at and spots to get good beer. Much needed. Do tell where :)
Tks dude !
haha I didn't have any footage of the Moab brewery, but I linked to it in the description. Definitely good beer, but something to be aware of in Moab is that you cannot buy beer above 4% in the store, so if you are on a budget, gonna need to import some brews in your vehicle ;)
You can in cans at Moab Brewery IIRC. Which is why it is packed...food isn't that great but the only place to get full strength beer!
Nice man! Tks for the reply. Will keep an eye out for local rides in Tampa when you do those 👍👍👍👍
My favorite place to ride is Fruita, Colorado - I have made 8 trips out there since May, 2010 - Moab is super awesome as well. Crested Butte was a rage and even hit up the Uncalada in Montrose - that should be a destination ride for anyone.
This year I am riding in Arkansas, Texas, Utah, and Arizona and super stoked!
Dangggg man you got a solid season planned!!
Thanks Alex - I am hoping this will be a great one -the Utah/Arizona trip will be a 10 day super awesome adventure - just trying to find someone to drive out with me from KC to there and back - my brother, cousin, and his friend are going separately in another vehicle.
Sweet video. Looking forward to an episode on the Asheville area!? I'll be there all summer so I could use some tips.
You better believe I'm doing one from up there!
Thanks man. We're off to Moab from the UK THIS WEEKEND.
haha holy cow! I can't believe how many people are heading there this month! It's gonna be a party in Moab!
He's BACK!
💪
Maybe its just me but I really like Portal on the Gold Bar Rim trail system. It's just spectacular descent that is a bit hair raising. Love it!
On my BUCKET LIST!
The whole Cinnabar by Tyaughton lake in the Chilcotlin mountains! That's one for the bucket list
Simply solid, brother! I'd like to check out some North Georgia
Hmmmmm.... I think we may just be able to make that happen! 🚗
Alex, how's the rehab going? Bet you can't wait for some epic rides.
I'm excited for you to start posting them again too. Anyways, I'm getting ready for an adventure race in Moab this weekend. Should be epic. Happy Trails
My yearly favorite mountain biking trips are to Knysna in South Africa. Check out Garden Route Trailpark and Hakkerville Red Route.
If you're ever in Southern California, head up to Big Bear lake and ride the skyline trail. It's 15 miles so it's not too long, but not too short either. It's beautiful scenery, it's challenging, and is a gem of a trail and area for so cal. There is also the snow summit bike park up there to hit afterwards!
Outerbike this fall in Moab my brotha. Racking up miles on my bike to experience the true awesomeness of Moab. Shout out to Chili pepper bike shop!!
awesome dude.
greets from mexico :3
Moab was a awesome trip alot to see...we went in early November and had perfect weather.
Oh yea man, that really is perfect time to visit.
I'm not even a minute in and I love this video idea already. I'm constantly planning my next trip even if I can't go for a month, year or longer. I have mountain bike wanderlust. My plans for the year so far are Palo Duro Canyon in north Texas, Bentonville Arkansas and Moab is on there but I doubt I'll make it this year.
Cheers Chris 🍻
Glad you like this new series dude :D
Channels like yours really have helped me to realize how lucky I am to have Moab a short 4 hour drive from my house.
hey Alex, really enjoyable video, music choice was on point. looking forward to more in this series. was at the Banff mountain fest world tour last night at my local theatre, and this video would have been at home there. keep stoked! Ben.
I love the Banff Film Festival!!! Always such a good time. Stoked you liked the video man, thank you so much for those kind words. I really enjoyed making this vid and look forward to continuing the series!
it was wicked, so many good videos. your grand canyon video definitely would be a great feature....who knows....maybe next time I'll see you on the big screen. thanks for everything your doing for us viewers. the effort you put in really shows.
Thanks Ben, I can't tell you how much that means to hear that
The Singletrack Sampler 🤘
thanks for the dope advice Jesus!
Definitely back to Vail!
We discovered MOAB from Mountain Bike Magazine (MBM) in 1987. Camped in up the creek and my brother in law had a infamous face plant on Slick Rock...nasty although he was not much of a looker before. (Apologizes Sir James I did warn ya 35 yrs ago about marrying my sister) Anyways 59 yrs old old now and thanks for bringing me back. We also rode in 6 days from Durango , little Molas lake I think, Ouray, Telluride, Silverton, Aspen, Crested Butte. In the interim I am sticking with indoor climate control stationary, reading my WSJ.Roll on!
i rode brown county last year and would recommend that to everyone. getting geared up for coler bike park in arkansas.
You deserve more subs
As a local born and raised in moab i aprove. this video is awesome and its great that people love my little town but honestly your'e going to need about a 5 hour video to explain how awesome moab is.
awesome as always....what's the best month for the arches trip??
I would love to visit that place with my mates to ride
Fat chance I'll ever get to ride any of the destinations, living in Europe but I still love the video!
Dig this idea for a series! Thanks Alex.
I have not ridden as many trails as some but I really like Coldwater Mountain near Anniston AL
Mark I was one of the first people to ride Coldwater when it opened!!! I lived in ATL for a while, and would take day trips over there to ride Bomb dog over and over!
Yeah Bomb Dog! That is the best trail out there. Hech that place rocks. One time me and my son met Van Michael and rode with him over to, and down Bomb Dog. Freaking great!
Wait, THE van michael? from the Blankets trail?
Alex sorry to get back to you a couple days late... Yeah man it was THE Van Michael. We (me and my son) slogged up some long ass climb, stopped at a huge downed tree and took in some calories. Van pulls up with some lady. We chat and the next thing you know we were riding the trail over to and down Bomb Dog. He's a real down to earth guy. Super friendly... had nice hair.
Cool bro nice video do one for California saludos🤘🏻
Not on the level of Moab, but for those on the east coast looking for a budget destination Harrisonburg, VA has great riding/camping/craft brews without getting on a plane
I plan a trip to reunion island this summer, just have to find mates!
Morning Glory Land Bridge is sick! Rappelled down it at the beginning of March--highly recommended. The hike is beautiful too.
That's dope! I heard you can do that, but no one was doing it the day I went and I didn't have gear. Would be super fun I bet
Do it if you ever get the chance. Its a 60-foot rapp down into a really cool slot canyon, and then a 100-footer down between the bridge and the wall. So awesome
Great video you should come out to sea otter classic in California
Hurricane Utah - Bear Claw Poppy is pretty sweet. I am partial to Sedona as I'm an AZ native. Reality, any new adventure is a great adventure!
I concur
