      @@NobleNoob356 I toured PPI (where they built the trucks) in 1993. They were fully custom vehicles at that point. At that time, the 3 CNC mills I saw were incredibly high-tech to my high school mind. That was three years later, but the truck from 1990 looks pretty similar in capabilities

    This was back when you could just go and buy a chassis for a few grand, buy a few suspension parts, complete your car with a used VW, put it all together and go racing.
    You couldn't compete with factory or big sponsor teams but you could go racing and have the experience without breaking the bank.
    You can still kind of do that, there are affordable classes but in 88 and 89 I built a car for $2,500 +/- and towed it with my Camaro. Never won anything, never even came close but I was out there having fun and making memories.

    This is crazy to see two of the few solo drivers that could navigate and traverse all this crazy unpredictable terrain without any assistance but some pre running and maps(on paper) and then they've got a helicopter distracting them to talk about a real iron man and the king a baja.

      Buy a can am x3 and get someone to build you fiberglass fenders to make it look like it. Would be a cool kit. His truck is 80" by 120" track/base so you can get something similar.

      @ericksanchez7787 4 роки тому

      @@KTMcaptain or buy a cheap truck and put long travel suspension and make it a prerunner it could be cheaper in total than just a can am x3

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 4 роки тому

      @@ericksanchez7787 no way. Cheap truck with enough suspension to compete with a stock $25k 72” x3 is going to cost you more. You need a lot more shock for a truck... probably spend half the x3’s cost on coil carriers and bypasses. Plus you need a cage, actual suspension parts. Then you have a limited travel 4wd or a long travel 2wd. Can’t rock crawl with it, and if you crash you’re SOL.
      .
      That’s not even considering cost of maintenance and repairs.
      .
      Look at the Baja 1000 times. Sxs are killing it and getting pretty close to what class 1 can do. Which isn’t surprising. Speed UTT will be a 2000 lbs 300hp with 25” of travel and 4wd for low $30k.

    • @ericksanchez7787
      @ericksanchez7787 4 роки тому

      @@KTMcaptain yeah sxs are very versatile but but what's more satisfying a sxs that anybody can buy if they have enough money or a custom build prerunner that you can really claim as your own

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 4 роки тому

      @@ericksanchez7787 I get what you’re saying, but that’s a huge headache. With all that extra mass you need bigger and better components. With a sxs you already know what works, what failure points exist, and have tons of aftermarket support.

      I raced 94 baja in class 8 torch ford . We had to keep stock design by rules leaf spring rear coil spring front no trailing arms coil overs ect. We had 16 inches of travel and 500 hp. Trophy trucks were pushing 20 in front 26 rear with 750 hp.trailing arms covers ect. Our 8 truck is not even a decent prerunner today

      Roughly 97-98? Yup, they started winning again. I believe 1998 was a grand series sweep, a feat that was completed back in 1993 where this very truck we’re watching on this footage finished over an hour ahead of 2nd place and even beat the motorcycles. Crazy what even the V6 here was able to do with the right pace and the right conditions.

    I was an IvanIronMan fan when I had a Toyota . I still amfor his of road skilland ability tobe Iron Man. Then I needed a new truck and waswisely told by raceteams to go with a TTB Broncoto build it. It took a lotof work and some money for some good parts like the King shocks! A friend from HS who wasin my Auto shop with MR NOLAN raced and made kits for the TTB Bronco and I wentwith it. Long Travel (more thanaRaptor) with 4wheel drive grared and locked doesgreat. I was blown away when at Pismo my first time with a surprise goingup thebig dune you see inland from thewaterkeeping the peddle downto make it up. I was suddenly6 or 8 feet off thesand I think. Happy I landed at the right angle onthe landing andthanks toBrett King for thesoft landing I made it to the bottom of the razer and backonthegas when headingup again. I madeit alllthe wayup. I wentback downtoourtrailer we rented andtook mywife nowto take some pics. Then aguy on aquad rolled up andaskedifI could helphisfriend out ofabowl. I saidI can try lead thewaythere. Hedid andI winchedhim out. It broke thetires bead off the front rim on oneside and I crawleda easier way out and up the beach to thetrailer. My CO2 tank got it back onand aired up some. Good times andhappyit did sowell with the stock 302. Lockershelp a lot. I have used the good mans expertise wyth Ford Motors a man named Greg Gosset from Total Performance andcan not wait to see how it doesthere now.
