Many years ago when I was still a teenager, my mother heard me playing this song on my stereo and said that she thought it had one of the most beautiful melodies she had ever heard. She then asked me a number of questions about the singer and the band and expressed an interest in "my" music that she never had before. The exchange occurred at a time when our relationship was somewhat strained, and it really helped me realize that she was more than just an authority figures in my life, and that she was someone - a contemporary - with whom I could share a beautiful experience. She passed a few years ago at the age of 92 and we played this song at her funeral service. I'm sure she would have appreciated it. Thank you Justin for creating a wonderful song that helped my mother and I to grow closer.
I really enjoyed your story. I've always said that music from those days really changed the world. You're story is a perfect example of how it did just that. It changed your world, right? Besides for being some of the best music ever- it's spread the message of good, love, peace, and it made me the person I am and still am today some 50 years later. .
Nothing even comes close to this music of Justin's, the lyrics, the voice, the soul! It never fails to touch me even after five decades of listening to it. Thank-you so much for posting Justin!
I put this song to a homemade video I made of my wife and our first born child, a son. It has a special meaning for me. Everyone's still together, 35 years later.
Justin, I’m trying to find my own piece of mine too. And we are all the same we all the same wishes and hopes. And you’re just gonna be fine. You already are fine and don’t doubt yourself ever.😇 Don’t ever doubt how many people in this world that you have helped feel better about themselves. You are definitely one of the good guys, no matter what you’ve ever done in your past, let it go, just forgive yourself. And continue making the most wonderful music that I have ever heard. 😇 And you are worthy and deserving of what you have become. And hopefully we can all feel that way. Do me a favor, and don’t go away yet. I’ve cried too many tears for family, musicians that I’ve never known personally, and the moody blues and just how difficult life can be. You and the moody blues have helped me, survive this earthly planet. So keep doing what you’re doing. And knows that it’s appreciated so much.
"New Horizons" is an absolutely gorgeous song! The lyrics and music are from the heart! And this video, with Justin and his guitar....exquisite! Thank you, Justin, for sharing! 💕
It is amazing after all these years to see all these special comments about this Moody Blues song and to see how much their music moved us and influenced us. I'm now 69 and just lost my brother 2 months ago, but I do remember us along with some close friends listening to the Moodies night after night in my bedroom. They had such an impact on our lives, even though we traveled different paths. The spiritual foundation of those times is still there in our lives. Thank you Justin for sharing this music.
I copied out the words to this song in The Book of Remembrance at the chapel of the (now sadly demolished) hospital when / where I had my first set of twins because it perfectly describes how I felt. Philip Julian Leigh, lived _6_hours, Marianne Zara Cyrena, lived _12_hours. 16th January 1992 - 16th January 1992. ...Born _6_ minutes apart... ...Died _6_hours apart. 💔😢R.I.P.😢💔
Great vocal and acoustic version of this song! I used this song at my mother's funeral in a church. It was beautiful and perfect for my two brothers and me, "I've got love enough for three"'.
This might seem a little maudlin: but when my mother died a few years ago, this song was all I could hear in my head. This song was the only one that that could encapsulate the emotions of the moment.
I often remember my mother in the kitchen singing the chorus to "When You're A Free Man" with her beautiful opera voice: Someday I know I'll see you shining when you're a free man again.
I don’t think it’s maudlin at all. My father passed away unexpectedly when I was young. This song helped me through that and the aftermath, when it came out, in ways I can’t begin to explain. It has continued to help my peace of mind when I’m troubled. It’s like a wonderful, spiritual embrace.❤❤❤
This has been & will eternally be a song at the core of my Life, Heart, and Soul.🫠💙✨ IT CAN’T BE HEAVEN WITHOUT THE MUSIC WE LOVE 💗🌟💖 I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL💝
This is the song that I recommended to my graduation class committee in 1975. It became the theme of our celebration, and I had the honour of performing it at our convocation ceremony. This song means so much to me. ❤️
I read the words of this song at my fathers funeral. My dad died and six weeks later my brother died. The same year, our first grandchild was born. Making the year bittersweet. This song, knowing it’s meaning, always makes me emotional.
Some musicians perform memorable songs. And then there musicians like Justin and the Moody Blues who perform songs that touch your heart and your soul.
Such uniquely beautiful lyrics presented in an equally exquisite voice wrapped in a masterful acoustic guitar solo. Thank you God for Justin Hayward. First heard you in 1968 when I was 13 years old and many times since. Incredibly in 2023 and 2024, you still present with a remarkablely nuanced voice with great range. Respect, Mark Rustad.
Probably my favorite Justin Hayward song. I really like this raw version since it really brings out the songs beautiful melody and Justin's lovely singing. For any guitar geeks out there, the spmg os in F major and the guitar is tuned to DADFAC. I've performed this song a few times but it can be tricky since unless you have two guitars you don't want to re-tune in front of an audience. Re-tuning a 12-string makes it even more of a challenge. I'd love to know how he came up with this tuning and the chords he used.
@@RobertBush-cb1gz Wow! Thanks I didn't know that. I'm going to try and do this song at my next gig and may even do it on a 12-string if I'm feeling brave.
12 ? - STILL TRYING TO PLAY 6 - FOR 12 , I have to tune down 2 steps and capo it up even with the lightest gauge strings - Rìchie òpened Wòodstock and wrote "Freedom" on stage when the band thàt was supposed to opèn got caught iñ tràffic , so they shoved Havens òn stage.
This is such a lovely song! It brings the same peace that being on the water brings and in a dark time, it changed my perspective. Thank you, Mr. Hayward, for more than the song.
Where is this place we have found, nobody knows where we are bound, someday on the wind soaring free spread your wings I’m beginning to see, well I’ve dreams enough for one, and love enough for 3, I’m never gonna lose your precious gift, it will always be that way, Ive got my New Horizons out to sea, these are some of the loveliest words written in this classic Justin Hayward song 💫 💕 You sang it beautifully here Justin with just your guitar 💓
Justin Hayward is a true poet.He writes the most beautiful song lyrics. He can play that guitar like no o ne I've ever seen. God bless Justin and his family
This beautiful song always reminds me of my Mama and her passing. I know she's peaceful and free from pain. It always brings a tear to my eye and calm to my heart.
The most perfect song I have ever herd. I've seen the moodiness 15 times. But theirs something about Justin by himself and his guitar that just hits the spot.
Great tune from my personal fave,Seventh Sojourn. Some of the acoustics are a little bit country,to my ears. Always seemed so thoughtful and appropos to have named their daughter 🎵Doremi 🎶and a dream come true, for so many children, to have a pony let alone a crooner to tuck them in and sing them off to sleep at bedtime.
Seventh Sojourn was the first album I ever heard and this song immediately became hit me in the guts emotionally. I grew up being obsessed with song lyrics with this remaining at the top. Justin has an authentic voice where he delivers the song like he's singing it to you. I can't believe where this time has gone.
As I recall from a interview, Justin mentioned this song was during the time when Mike P. And Tony C decided to leave the MB's. Beautiful words heartfelt. Love this song ❤
Absolut beautiful song. Sets the mood for the whole Seventh Sojurn - album. One of my fathers favourite song to play on guitar. He is born 1949. Cheers from Sweden.
