@@MrAnthonyfrench yes, massive. From unplayable to playable at high resolutions.
They've announced FFR v2 so a lot will depend on that and we will see when the reviews happen. But if there's no or not much gain over openxr FFR then you're looking at a headset with a much higher resolution than a G2 but more pixels to shift so you need to drop that resolution to get acceptable performance. Is that worth an upgrade? We will know soon once people like Steve provide their hands on opinions. I've never used DFR but keep hearing its gives a massive FPS boost.
I can just about get what I regard as decent VR performance (72 fps, no reproj, low level over Dubai, quite high quality settings) on DCS with a Quest Pro / 4090 / 13900k / DFR / DLAA (2896 x 2618 per eye, w/ barrel distortion compensation). A Crystal pushing nearly 3x the pixels (4350 x 5100 per eye*) with no DFR? Great if you like reprojection at low frame rates (I don't). *I suspect many run the Crystal at less than this, but then they're not running it at optimal settings. FFR? meh.
i'd best start saving for the pimax crystal super, oh and a 5090 pc.

Pimax's announcements are always exciting as hell--but I always watch/listen to them with my arms crossed, my foot tapping, and an "Uh-Huh" look on my face.
And ultimately, I've had good reason for that.
Yes, they seem to have come within spitting distance this time of being consistently "ready out of the box" with the Crystal, but still find it necessary--and sensible--to be skeptical of what Pimax is saying they're going to do, and what they actually do.
As always, I wish them the greatest success, because VR wouldn't be VR without Pimax... but, hmmm...
Disappointing that the Crystal Light doesn't have eye tracking, but, well, I'm happy with my "base" Crystal.
I think the weight is worth it but I agree. I'd probably use that open source diy eye tracking if I got one.
I hope the Light version will get more flight simmers into VR. It would probably be best for MSFS simmers because it doesn't have eye tracking DFR that works so well in DCS. I live for DCS multiplayer dogfights, and the Crystal has been the most impactful flight sim accessory I've ever used. Flying with the Crystal has been so immersive and fun that I don't ever want to go back to Track IR. I'm always having issues with the cable when I'm whipping my head around to check my six, so a wireless option would be useful to me.
I feel like this company is a prototype focused one. Never saw anything from Pimax the looks and feels like a finished product instead of just rushing to release unfinished stuff... (crystal owner speaking). Really really hoping for some extra serious players on thins market.
There won't be any "extra serious players" (if you refer to new companies), because it is a relatively small market with incredibly high development costs and huge risks of being unsuccesfull with a product. Let's hope new Crystal variants will be more polished than previous ones, because they don't have to build a completely new HMD now from scratch...
The Light is actually 310g lighter than the standard Crystal, not 60g, which is very welcome. As you say, shame they didn't reduce the dimensions a little.
They did reduce the dimensions on the super so would imagine they're using the same housing for the light.
So which is best oled or qled? for msfs.
I would be excited about this but so far my experience with Pimax themselves, the Crystal, and their support has been so unbelievably sh^tty that I just won't buy another Pimax product ever again... placed my pre-order for the VR1 and won't look back. I hope the ones brave enough to keep going with Pimax will be (unlike me) satisfied.
Same here. Not to mention setting it up to a point of usability took me like 2 weeks of research on the deeps of the web. This company is a joke.
Totally agree. No matter what Pimax promises (you can guarantee that it won't be what they deliver), they won't get another penny from me.

Just wondering, what is the point of purchasing both OLED and QLED in a bundle? Not like you will be changing them each day you usually chose one and stick with it🤔
Less FOV on the Oled version. So if you can’t make up your mind for what your priorities are, then it makes sense. Space sim with oled and less FOV, or Flight sims and race sims with Qled and wider FOV.
@@rotormann And for movies OLED is also great, as the FOV is smaller the PPI is also really high.. like around 60. 4k movies should look quite stunning. HDR is probably too much to ask though.

The Crystal Light is the headset the market needs right now. I'm almost tempted to give up my Crystal for a lighter version with no battery requirements. Losing DFR would suck, but I've gotten by without it for years. I wonder if eye tracking was directly tied to the XR2 chipset and that is why they can't offer it as an upgrade.
An eye tracking module was available for pimax's earlier headsets, so it's not related to the xr2 chipset. It would add too much to the cost of the cheaper headsets, i think.
As you said, the Pimax Crystal Light is THE big news. It's too bad it doesn't have eye tracking and DMAS headphones included. If it did, it would be a no brainer for a lot of us. Any chance you can send this feedback back to your Pimax contacts Steve? As always thanks for the videos.

Harp back to HP reverb G2 Omnicept with eyetracking. Pimax Lite should have Eyetracking. $700 is too much without that. $900 for local dimming and no eyetracking is too much. Give me $900 for local dimming and eye tracking and you have my money. Somnium Your turn. Base Vr1 at $1899 seems rather underwhelming now that 12KX is seems to be actually the Crystal Super etc...
You are comparing prices from years ago. Everything is more expensive now. If the Reverb G2 Omnicept was released today, it would be a lot more money.
I recently complained about my Q2 on several crystal vr vids, saying the resolution has ruined it for me, wish i could afford the crystal, now this!! Perfect timing.

After almost a year, I’m still waiting for their adjustable headstrap to become available, along with the wide fov lenses. And for past month, it simply would not connect to pc. Recent update seems to have fixed that issue. In hind-sight, I would not have purchased this Crystal headset.

I have a low end PC, would the Light have worse performance than a Regular Crystal on it as no DFR?
DFR improves performance by about 30% on the Quest Pro, so i imagine it's about the same on the pimax.

Its supposed to have glass pancakes, but i dont think they are actually pancakes.. the drawings show dual element setup. I think, and hope, that its a regular multi element glass lens system. As that would be way superior to pancakes. There is no need for pancakes, as the headset is not intended to be small.

@@russ3190 Hi russ, I assume you said "doing" instead of "deo"? Videos usually go off the VR mirror on the computer so wouldn't matter. The VR Screen will only be a thing for the user of the headset. If you meant something different please let me know.
@@GYGOtv DeoVR app not doing or doink 😁 ATM they upload daily 8k videos in 180 or even higher if it's in 360 and definitely in crystal is better visions than Reverb G2 due higher ppd. So wonder what's the difference between qled 50ppd and micro oled 57ppd+

I was so excited when I heard about the Pimax light until I heard that it has NO *EYE TRACKING* , seriously, what's wrong with Pimax? this is a headset directed towards simmers and yet it lacks E/T! forget about the "affordability" since if you really want to get the best of the Crystal Lite you'll need to fork out for RTX 4090 as well and even with that , it will still struggle with no E/T.
I am glad that I went for the *Quest 3* which wI still believe is a better option for all in all VR including sim despite lack of HMDI, but if you have a 4090 its a no brainer tbh.
On the other hand, the *Pimax Super* is really an exciting HMD and I would rather pay more to get that with eye tracking, and better resolution than the Crystal Lite.
The is a very smart move since itscheaper, yet more superior to the overprices *Somium V1* needless to mention Varjo's XR-4 and AVP.
Let's hope the quality control is going to be good for the Super!
There was actually a working early prototype in CES, that was apparently early testbed for the Super. It had the big lenses. Tally Mouse had a video about ti, with a picture of the lenses.
I waited 6months for a cable from pimax and sent multiple emails back and forth back in the 5k+ days.
The software was but standard then too. Not sure what their current landscape looks like though as I sent back to quest 3

I would have taken a punt on the Light, had there been eye tracking. Lack of this means that even with a 4090 you'd be struggling with existing games, let alone future ones. Sticking with the G2.
Looking at the Super. I have a G2 at the moment but want to upgrade. I have a i9 12900k , 32 gb ram and a 4090 . Will this run the new Super as good as a G2. Cheers.
Definitely not as good as Reverb G2. Expect FPS drop around twice. But still should be fine playing some games less demanding

@@kennymoss7089 it's still will be a drop, but not that much compare super. Reverb G2 has 2160px2160p per while crystal has 2880px2880p. But definitely not a huge difference as would be with super. So it depends what you play and are you ready to get 5090 in a future.
@@russ3190 I only play racing sims. Only had 4090 for a year and a bit so won’t be upgrading for a long time hopefully. Cost £2000. Had new system built. G2 seams to be coming to an end thanks to Microsoft .
I've never tried VR, but I think (and I could be 100% wrong) that Eye tracking is one of the things that gives You the sense of immersion.. even If the Light price it's appealing I don't think it would make much sense for me (I play DCS ONLY)..🤔
You do not need eye tracking feature to get immersion (this is the job of stereoscopic vision and the 6 degrees of freedom), but it's a major gain regarding performances.

@@Crazy-Bear-Gamer-Channel you ALWAYS need more performance 🤣. Anyway, rest assured that even without foveated rendering, VR is just... another dimension, truly. I got my Reverb since 2020, and the only reason I launch MSFS or DCS in 2D from time to time is for scenery design / mission setup...
Regarding performances, I set my options to a render definition of 3000x3000, which my 4090 handles nicely. So I'm guessing that the Pimax 2880² definition won't be problematic.
Finally, I really hope you'll be able to give VR a try soon as this really is a sim changer :-)
No Eyetracking is a bummer cause it could give a 30% fps boost, seems we need to wait for the quest4 if we want eyetracking at an affordable price

Completely agree with the size aspect of light. For me the perfect headset is slightly higher resolution than g2 with eye tracking good audio, light weight smaller form factor + oled screen non glare screen lenses. I would pay over £1k for that headset.
Pimax Light is intriguing. I hope you do a comparison with other similarly priced headsets like the Pico 4.

I'd advise strongly against pre ordering a Pimax product. This is early days, and Pimax are known for moving the goal posts on what you will and won't get for your hard earned cash (Crystal lenses, for instance).
Wait until the reviews, then make your mind up, I wish I'd have done that before pre ordering the Crystal.

Super Bundle here i come
2:03 To be fair I've done that with an 2021 top of the line mother board wifi chip while my PC was wireless to an dacade old comcast modem over 800 bit down internet with just my Quest 3 and virtual desktop... The issue I found was the quest 3 will run out of charge in an hour even on a 100w mac wall brick and to my PC... So it has been done and I don't doudt Pimax can do it better... it's will they that worries me.
Is this is why they won't make the existing crystal 160hz so it doesn't put some people off the super orders? because 120hz at 3840 x 3840 on the super on DP1.4 How?

When Pimax launched Crystal they should have released the pure PCVR version first and only after that the standalone one. At least they now make a correction. Great news. Crystal Super is the first HMD to have all the specs I've been waiting for 15 years.
If they deliver on the 2 grand super i will seriously consider it.
I wish they would fix their build quality and software quality issues. $299 for that.

All this sounds interesting on info about PIMAX VR, but I have invested my money in a Quest 3 and is good enough for my SIM racing. Good resolution and clarity while doing my racing games. Right now I connect via a USB link cable for best visuals. I do have the ability now to do wireless if I want to.
I have always been hesitant on PIMAX products from reading Amazon reviews and some videos on You Tube. But I guess if you like their products, go for it. Not for me though.

I think the reason why they didn't design a new housing for the Pimax Light is because it saves them a lot of money.
The Pimax headsets are very distinguishable in the VR space. They've been using the same V shape design for years now.
If the Pimax light succeeds in it's target sales, I bet you they're going to put in a bit more RND towards an actual lighter design.
The light would be a no go for me, as i am a DCS player, the super sounds great, but happy with my Crystal
Thanks Steve for distilling down the Pimax Frontier announcements to the most crucial points for flight simming. While the Super is interesting for pushing the technology boundaries, I agree with you that the Light is - the sweet spot for us virtual pilots (excuse the pun). I wonder though whether the upcoming MR faceplate will also attach to the Light? That is the ultimate consideration for me - as I see MR as the eventual holy grail for utilising sim hardware peripherals.

It seems to me that every time Pimax announce a new headset, the moment I decide to buy one, they announce another improved headset. Then I read everyone saying negative things about the company.
This makes me reluctant t9 buy, so I’m stuck with my Reverb G2.
Honestly I wish they stick to their core audnace and just make a $1k pretty viseals HMD I do like the modularity but honestly that only works if the Lite and nomal crystal had it too... Imaigne buys the lite then adding all the super's modules on top... That would be perfect.
for the first time I'm very tempted for a Pimax headset. The Crystal Light could be what a very casual gamer is willing to pay for high-res VR. 🙂

Pimax made 2 mistakes with Crystal Light. First you've mentioned - form factor. This headset could be much, much smaller. If they actually did that it would much more comfortable. The second thing is also tied to the first since with different shell they would have opportunity to built in light house tracking. The face plate is known to have blind spots with 2 base stations because it only has tracking sensors on the front. It causes people to get grey screens. If they built in the tracking as with regular headset the blind spots would be no more. Additionally with new shell design they could get rid of some of the jitter. Pimax headsets often had a tiny jitter. Their shell is thick and most likely was the cause for sensors not being close enough to the surface to reliably get hit by base station lasers. With new shell this could be fixed. Then the headset could be 799 (due to built in lighthouse tracking) - lighter by probably another 200 grams. Putting it into 600 grams territory G2 replacement. Obviously for sims the inside out tracking will be good enough but considering this headset could have potential to be a viable all around option (if they get software properly fixed) for a great price. We were "this" close to perfection spec wise.
At that price and a good chunk of weight chopped of I might give the light some consideration, although best wait for your review and some time for the usual PIMAX bugs to be ironed out.
By not designing a new smaller headset for the light it saved one hell of a lot of money which can be passed on to the RRP, imo

crystal light without eye tracking for DFR is a deal breaker for most of us,also no amd support.

It's a big deal for sure!
The Crystal Lite's only real selling point is that it's tethered. Otherwise, it seems to lack color passthrough (Quest 3 and Pico 4), and Eye Tracking (PSVR2). I could probably live without color passthrough, but no Eye Tracking is disappointing.
Display port is a big deal, plus the aspheric lenses and 35PPD. This is aimed at Reverb G2 users. If you want eye tracking, you'll need to buy the regular Crystal. Cheers.

Spectacular specifications are only half the story. What no one is talking about is the MTBF of these products. I could not care less about their fantastic displays if the product fails shortly after the warranty expires, not with the astronomical prices they are charging.

Went ahead and reserved a Crystal super bundle. Returned my crystal cause it was broken on shipping but the timing is great, still awaiting my 18k to 12k trade in but the super is good enough for now, especially at close to 60 ppd. Just wished the super had wireless, they don't make a cable long enough to reach my DCS pit yet from my PC I need about a 15 ft cable.
The cable they provide is 4.5 metres, or just under 15 feet.
@@dtz1000 Maybe they measure some weird way but I have a Pimax 6M fiber cable for my 8KX that I was hoping to use with the crystal and it definitely isn't 15 feet. I checked the order again and I definitely bought a 6M cable back and never used it till now, I put everything up awaiting the 12k that never came out, and that box was never opened till now. Maybe they gave me the wrong cable in the wrong box but the box and order sheet show its 6M and from my PC to the rig is 15 feet and will plug in but it's drawn tight and has zero slack. Assuming the Crystal Super uses the same connection for the cable I was hoping to use it.

4:11 About that my 2023 Sony bravia OLED 4K TV is windowlike to day for less that the Pimax super 2 right now today... And my Samsung S22 Ultra OLED also around 4k isn't... what are the chances that Pimax can beat Sony? I'll be happy if they can but LG,smasung can't as I would have bought an 8k LG MINI/QLED if it did... Also my TV is only window like for some content does not have to be Battlefeild 2042 it was RWBY Volume 1 steamed(Havly stylized and primitive animation wise.) So again what are the chances that Pimax can look that good in all content and can anyone with out a RTX 4090+ run it? Not saying they can't Apple may have I need to see AVP for my self but still also will these HMDs have support in a year or will they have moved on like all their headsets? I know my Sony TV will run for atleast 20 years... And it cost around $1k...

The lite is actually a good idea (an option with eye tracking would've been nice but It would've made crystal owners even more pissed off). As for the other headset, I'm guessing that it will probably have all sorts of problem when it releases (and we probably won't see it this year) and it will probably work alright late 2025.
yeah i would of picked the Lite over my crystal if the light was a option. I won't sell my crystal for the wireless option and ill buy a super Qled for sims when it comes out in 2026

You still need to upgrade the cpu and gpu to the edge. The whole high end vr thing cost half the price of a new car in my country.
The light is a total fail. No eye tracking???? Why not??? Everybody else can do eye training without SIC in the headset.
Actually, any headset without eye tracking is a total non starter anymore.
We need every HMD to have eye tracking if we ever want eye tracking to be mainstream and supported by software.

OK, but why someone would want QLED and OLED?
Well lets face it, everyone would want it... if they did not have to pay for it.
Quite simple really: OLED for movies, QLED for simracing and flightsims.
@@pertsonvelts1699 Isn't OLED better also for flightsims? Night flights for example would be better on OLED. With such a FOV (even if it's a little bit narrower) I think there's no much reasons to go for a bundle. Or there's something I don't know about QLED?

micro-OLED is superior in image quality(contrast/color) and motion (despite the lower refresh rate) than QLED.
I'll just wait for the 12k😂. Interesting they haven't offered the old trade in scheme with these.
Pimax just announced 5 more VR headsets being released ahead of the 12K. Your waiting time just got a lot longer.
Pimax is terrible to deal with. My crystal has been a paperweight for months. It’s unreliable and has never worked right. Their tech support is also very difficult to deal with.
I don't think the 12k QLED would be of any use today... 4090 would probably struggle with a screen this size... Maybe the 5090 will help...

They did mention the 12K, but all they said about it was that they're still working on it.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I'm assuming that's what is going on. They were hyping all of their software tech to be able to use the 12K with a lower end PC, but maybe that didn't really pan out.
@@laartwork I have an 8KX I use whenever I want to VR. I spread my gaming time between that, 3D gaming on my projector, and a multi-arcade cabinet. I'm not missing out so far as I value FOV for immersion over clarity.

But has pimax addressed everyone’s complaint - getting it to work. All I hear are horror stories on how difficult it is to get it to work on a PC.
The people without problems (vast majority) don't post on the Internet so we never hear from satisfied customers.
Sometimes the horror stories are internet trolls as they rarely provide evidence they own a Pimax headset (Pimax ticket support numbers), upload pictures of the problem described etc or are simply newbies to VR making basic mistakes (plugging into incorrect USB port etc) or failing to follow known fixes everyone else has figured out months ago at launch.
If someone had a genuine problem they would contact Pimax support and not post dramatic messages on Reddit. Those that do post Pimax ticket support numbers (proving they are genuine) almost always have their issues sorted on Reddit as they don't return or don't post again with further complaints.
They're not going to change the housing when they already are showing the amount of weight reduction and when they already explained in the past that despite of Crystal didn't have the same massive fov of k series they were going to use the same housing to reduce costs. A pity too that this light version doesn't have eye tracking, but thanks to the edge to edge clarity maybe I could live without the dynamic foveated rendering. So, despite of these two aspects I'm with you: the real hype is the light version, and in fact It would be interesting if they'd add a DOWNGRADE program. I'm sure many people like me would be interested on trade off their Crystal for the Crystal Light, but I guess that won't be possible because Pimax would need to pay customers the difference and that difference would not be total because customers would need to pay the shipment. Anyway, overall in theory that means Pimax would lose money instead of wining, so I think that won't be a thing.
Pimax is offering $400 off of all of the Crystal variants if you own a Crystal. You don't even have to trade it in.

never had a pimax yet, i dont like their design, looks like the user´s got a wooden board in its face (even tho i dont see myself during vr), but as a reverb g2 user, soon dying on wmr, i have to search for alternatives below 1000$ and without the force of facebook/meta account creation. i´d be pleased if you can - when the time is ready - compare the PSVR2 (PC) to Pimax Crystal Light in case of price, DCS performance and picture quality. the PSVR2 could possibly be a great G2 successor, as well as the crystal light. thank you very much.
Microsoft really needs to improve Bing maps. It is not fun to explore when you know that it all looks fake from 2000ft and lower.
