Have the same issues with the hammock being very “slippery”.
I have tried with the rubber mats yo put under carpets, and it works well. Have contacted Amok and asked for some small rubber dots on the laying area. The answer was about saving weight and cost.
Always stick my sleeping bag in between one of the sides so i can get in the hammock without it falling out. And the getting in to it..
Good idea with the mesh in the middle to prevent thing from sliding down.. i have small pouches that i mount on the ridgeline

Cheers buddy. Nothing is perfect as we all have different needs but if theres something common that a lot of people mention then it's an obvious flaw. I may do some mods in the coming months to use it again. 👍
Your review is spot on. I do the carabiner thing to attach things on the inside of it and it works out just fine. Awesome photos of that forest! I've slept better in the Amok than I have in my own bed.

Yes on my ridgeline I place a lantern and hang my car keys.

Good review. Thank you for the pluses and minuses. Hopefully Amok will be coming out with an Draumr 6 in the near future incorporating the most common suggestions. Ready to get one for the summer canoeing season in the US.
It is a good piece of kit and extremely comfy but like everything it'd never perfect for everyone. I'm still liking it though. 👍
Yep. I have the same hammock. Best sleep ever through two downpours. Stayed cozy and comfy, but same issues with stuff slipping down to the bottom, especially bedding (and then standing on the foot box bottom yikes! Don't want to put the stress and wear on that spot. And stuff falls out. Once I fell out. 😂. But the comfort is worth it, and putting it up is a breeze.
Yeah it's a shame they don't design something to keep your gear inside it. I've also slipped to the bottom and stood on the footbox. Not good 🤣

FYI The storage bag has a clip that attachs to a clip inside the amok to use it as another storage pocket.
Yeah I know but it doesn't give much storage where's there's so much space inside this hammock it's wasted where there could be storage. I still love it though 👍

Great video Mike … I’ve heard the Amok pads are pretty awesome and for the money / insulation rating you really can’t beat them … might have to put aside a few beer tokens and get me one 😉 …. Still haven’t been out yet … weathers still too cold for me here in Colorado … today it’s 0 F 🥶 …. I tryed my mates and I must admit I'm not a fan it was hard to get in and out I found I was slipping a lot and when trying to get comfortable I nearly fell out head first and it's too expensive I will stick with my DD supperlight hammock and my tenth wonder hammock atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Yeah its takes some getting used to for sure. They seem to have a loyal following though. I'm going to keep at it and see if I can make it work for me as for sleeping in, it was the most comfortable I've ever been. 👍

I have two of these the regular and the UL ...I slept well at 43 degrees in the reg one with a hat and down jacket and 25 degree quilt . To be perfectly honest I prefer my regular hammock..these are nice in concept practical not really hard to get in and out of has to be tweaked just right to be flat and you do end of scooting up so your heads touching the net ...also heavy on the hammock kit side even the UL is tad heavy . The tarps are nice .
I do still like it but verdicts out on which is my preference. I need to use it more and get to really know it well then decide 👍
Very in depth review can’t fault that , is there much space under the tarp to do stuff or does it take it all up ? What was the all in weight ? Haven beater then 👍
Beats the Haven in some ways but not in others. Difficult one really as theyre so different yet direct competitors. The trap only just covers the hammock tbh but you could still cool under it just. I'd like to try it with another tarp but will have to work it out separately due to the lay. And yes all in Weights so lighter than the Haven and smaller packsize too. 👍
I used to own the draumr and whilst a tad awkward at times is a lovely nights sleep and I loved chair mode, I'm a confirmed ground dweller now so sold it on. I found a DD 3.5x3.5m tarp fits brilliantly with loads of space underneath to do cooking etc in bad weather. I used to peg my helinox chair down and put my rucksack on it when sleeping, or if bo chair clip my bag to the ridgline. Enjoy 👌

I think it's the best hammock by far, and I've got a lot of hammock set ups. The fact you don't even need an underblanket is a bonus as its something else you don't need to carry.
The mat is the same weight as a under blanket 🤷♂️

True col but as Colin said its defo not as bulky as an under quilt and in all honesty easier to set up and keep under you. Horses for courses, I love all types of hammock camping but that bed was simply the warmest and most comfortable I've ever been 👌

After watching both your great reviews on the Haven & this Amok...the Haven sounds like it's way more versatile, easier to deal with and almost as comfortable...and cheaper!. the Amok sounds like an expensive chair!
Don't get me wrong, the Amok is a great hammock and even more comfy than the Haven but it's harder work if you know what I mean. Getting in and out, getting balanced and storage of gear. I love the look of the Amok too, i like things that are a bit different. But as an all rounder, the Haven beats it, so long as the pad doesn't go down and the bug mesh doesn't snag. It would be nice if they made the pad warmer too as its noticeably warmer in the Amok.
@@NoviceWildCamper Thanks to your honest review I am looking at the Safari Haven. Like the upgrades, heavier pad etc. and I mainly do canoe drop camping so weight for me is not a big issue....thanks again for you time and input!
if you just were looking at a 3 season (I have a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC with the top cover for winter) would you still get the bigger pad or go with the normal...or even the ultralight?
The ultralight would certainly help but in all honesty it's not that heavy a set up so I'd probably stick with the winter pad. 👍
Do Amoks come with a GoPro or what? Is there a contractual obligation between AMOK and its customers?

Been thinking of purchasing one of these hammocks. Benefitted from your experience.
Do you think having a hammock tidy along the ridgeline would help keep your kit handy?
You could place a tent footprint under the hammock to prevent your socks from getting dirty, or is that too much o a faff?
Would you take this hammock on a thorough hike, such as the Appalachian Trail, as I am planning to do so in March? Your advice would be appreciated; as to spend all that money to discover it was not appropriate would be annoying to say the least!
If you went for the ul version it wouod work for sure subject to funding trees of course. There's always ground somewhere for a tent 😂 I did think after that u could use one of my ridgeline storage sacks instead although I am always hitting my head on them so will try to experiment. Grounds sheet us a great idea. I have some very light tent footprints that I can use and peg down too which will also help with keeping my pack etc. dry 👍

Can never be too long in my eyes. In all honesty, the bigger it is the more comfy and more space you'll have. I reckon you'll be fine. 👍

I agree with you there. On their website they have a picture which shows that when it is too long for you, the top of the pad will bend over your head in the sitting position. We'll see. Still happy with it?
Yes haven't been out in it for a while as been testing so much other gear but I love it. Fiddly to get in and out till you get used to it and setting your gear inside without it falling out can be annoying but I ended up clipping stiff to the inner to solve this. Best nights sleep I've had though along with the Haven 👍

Mostly disagreed with just about everything you said on your review, but there are a few things I slightly agree with. Sleeping in the amok is comfortable, but it’s nowhere near as comfortable as sleeping in the Haven, and I think after you use the amok for about a while you’ll come to see that. You complain about having to sit up in the Haven to open/close the bugnet but you have to sit-up also in the Amok to open/close the bugnet as well. It’s things like that that don’t make sense in your reviews. I don’t know what this word “foff “ means that you keep using, but if it means crappy, I agree with that. Foff is not a word I recognize in either English (American) or French. The Amok is the hardest hammock to actually get in and get comfortable, and god forbid you move around much during the night, like you said you’re either standing up or on your head. I’ve definitely fallen on my head more than a few times in the middle of the night with the Amok. The Amok is the hardest hamac to get into or out of in all my years in the military, hinting, hiking, camping that I’ve ever experienced. Good luck with attaching all your gear to carabiners in the hamac , I’m sure that will work out really well and not be a pain in the butt…wink wink, smh. Best chair ever huh?….trying sitting in your best chair ever and tending to the fire, you can’t. Also you can’t compare and R4 pad (Haven) against and R5 pad (amok), it’s just not fair. I understand you’re pretty new to hammocking, but you might want to get a fair amount of experience under your belt before you continue to make derogatory claims against bridge hammocks like the Haven. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have always in the past gotten a sense of fairness from you, but this recent grudge again the Haven Tent company just baffles my mind, or do you have some kind of grudge against American companies?
Ok. A lot to respond to. First off, I haven't got a grudge against American companies. I have constantly praised Haven for their company ethos, response and product. I've pointed out some issues and that's all. I did say the chair is the comfiest but it's a 'faff' getting in and out so wouldn't be used when cooking or tending a fire. A faff is something that takes a lot of effort or messing around. I don't temmebr complaining to sit up to close the bug net in the Haven. What I said wad the zipper was so tight it felt like it was going to break. And it did. The R rating wasnt a comparison. It wasn't the same temperatures it was simply warmer and it was in colder temperatures. You can feel the synthetic insulation in the Amok pad but I cannot feel anything in the Haven pad and I found the Amok warmer, as I also found the Amok more comfortable. This is a personal thing as everyone's comfort is different and what I find comfortable others won't. I'm sorry you didn't like my thoughts on the Amok or comments in the Haven but they are my thoughts and mine alone so are true ti what I felt in using it. The Amok is far from perfect. It is a pain to get in and out off. You can't sit very well to cook etc. or put your boots on. What I did say was that when 'sleeping' it was the best sleep system I've come across be it hammock or tent. That's my feelings and I'm not saying that everyone's else's are the same just me. Hopefully that explains it OK. Thanks for watching.

Absolutely. It's takes a bit of getting used to getting in and out and storage but once you iron those out it's the most comfy hammock you can get in my eyes. 👌👍
For limiting backwards tilt while sleeping can a tie out and a stake be used at the foot end, that will stop backwards movement at a pre determined spot?
I honestly don't think a tie out at the foot end would work as you wouldn't be able to get in. The whole hammock moves backwards as you get in so you need plenty of movement otherwise you'd never make it. I think its just a matter of getting used to it and keeping central as much as possible. It wasn't a major issue tbh 👍
I have the Amok 4. I use it a a 3 season hammock . You always slide a blue padding on the sides. For winter use, I think there’s better options than the haven or the amok. Great honest video . Glad you like it. 👍😉
I think I could make the Amok work for 4 season but will take a little tweaking 👍
Great recap, I have the same small issues with the Draumr but the benefits outweigh them! I also use carabiners to add weight to the head end. I'd suggest a centre zip sleeping bag like the Carinthia Defence 1/4, they seem to be easier to wiggle into. When sitting or laying in the Draumr, try to get your hips directly under the ridge line for perfect balance.
The quilt worked well just alid down. Its easy cos I could just chuck it over me and pop my feet in. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper another trick to prevent the draumr from dumping forward, I put my backpack under the foot end, it may help it from bottoming out!

I use the big sidepockets for my cloths, so they isolate the sides
I tried putting my clothes in there but the still slid out when I got in and out. Its a shame there isn't a partition to stop it.
