My son hated tummy time so I rarely did it. He’s 5 months now, rolling both ways, sits unassisted for a few minutes and almost crawling. Your baby can and will develop without tons of tummy time!
Same! Mine would cry at every tummy time session so I just stopped and figured well it would be nice if she could crawl a little later at least I won't be chasing her around yet... She learned crawling at 6 months, and I didn't get the rest I needed
I have to agree with you on tummy time. Tummy time is important, yes, but the child develops everyday so does not necessarily need tummy time from day one. However, the earlier they start, logically, the quicker they get used to it. . You just have to keep encouraging them along in their developmental stages.
My kids were very different as well. My daughter... Crawled at 3.5 months. Big baby to begin with. Her brother, didn't move until 10 months... Baby boy, he did it at 6 months. But.. life the video said, every child is different. So nobody should be judging or putting their baby in a bubble. He/She will move when they are ready. But do give them time to try..
My 5 month old loves rolling from back to tummy, but seems to have no desire to roll from tummy to back lol. She is starting to lift her bottom into the air, and she is getting better at pushing up and extending her arms. It’s so wonderful to watch her achieve these milestones. I swear, last week she was flopping over when I’d sit her up, and now she can stay in a sitting-up position with little support. ❤
my daughter jus crawled today for the first time n she went thru every stage u mentioned. felt like i was watching my own child in your video. the plank was a stage i didnt know existed but i seen my daughter do it and thought it was a one off.
Daughter was in the NICU the first two months of her life so at 9 months she started consistently rolling over and pushing up straight with arms. Practicing on crawling now with her.
@@rae7864 Daughter is 15 months now. She started crawling the week she turned one. She’s now practicing walking and holding unto the couch or coffee table. Not yet standing on her own. Slowly but surely we’re getting there.
Fellow NICU parents here. My son was born a month early due to emergency c section. He was in the NICU for almost a month. He always hated tummy time so we didn’t do it constantly.. especially with two months of colic. He’s almost 8 months, he can’t crawl yet, but he can sit up and is starting to stand with help, and has taken a couple steps! He can only roll from back to tummy, but still has trouble going from tummy to back. He also just got his bottom teeth!
omg my baby girl is actually transitioning from the army crawl. This video is so accurate! I swear it's like looking at her. She did the plank all day!! My boy preferred rocking back and forth. They were so different :) Thank you! I enjoyed it a lot!!
My eldest daughter hated tummy time - so much so she learnt to sit up really early just to get off her tummy 😄 She learnt to crawl fully by 9 months starting from the sitting position. My youngest daughter loves tummy time and is progressing through all the crawling milestones by the book 🤷♀️
I wish I found this video months ago. My baby daughter is 6 months old, but we are a little bit behind on these skills. I’ve been working more on tummy time, and she can roll from belly to back (she can almost roll from back to belly, but is stopped by her arm). She can sit when in her high chair and her rocking chair, but not when entirely unsupported. Her head balance is good, and we spend a lot of time holding her up, so that part is good. She also wants to walk when we hold her in a standing position, moving her legs forward to make steps. Obviously, she is not on her full weight, as her muscles aren’t strong enough, but you can see that she wants to get around and explore everything. Hopefully, I’m not too far behind and she can reach these milestones soon. I’ll be using this video as reference. Thanks for putting it together!
My little girl in her 6months also is lacking behind a little bit and my main concern is her neck balance not suitable yet, her head still moves front and back I don't know what else to do
My little fella is 9 months and not crawling but the steps I've noticed after the initial rolling phase so far are: 1. On tummy, being able to prop himself up on hands and rotate on the spot. 2. While on Tummy, thrashing arms and legs like he's a beetle in the water 3. While on Tummy, Pushing himself backwards on slippery surfaces, or into a sitting position. 4. On hands and knees, rocking back and forward or doing hip thrusts 5. Transferring to a kneeling position and doing little lunges and flailing his arms or clapping. So far no planking or army crawling. Maybe he'll skip those steps, or do them in a quick phase. Or maybe it'll still take a while! He seems to be loving it though and I love seeing each new thing he learns which he couldn't do the day before.
Such a great video! You are so right, babies are very different! My little one is 5 months, she doesn't sits, but she army crawls, planks, gets up on knees and arms and rocks 😅 looking forward for the sitting milestone!
It's called "creeping" when on hands and knees(according to Gesell's original longitudinal research).! Tummy crawling is an important ability made possible by inhibition of the asymmetrical tonic neck reflex. Children and adults unable to tummy crawl lack maturation of the ATNR, but therapeutic maturation/inhibition can result in passing standards for fire fighter or military combat mobility is possible.. Tummy crawling with a strong leg extension can be helped by giving resistance to infant leg thrusting from early infancy--just resist the thrust a tiny bit to build strength and when the tummy crawl brain network is ready the child will take off automatically (so prepare the environment for all that exploration).
interestingly enough, my son had enough neck strength to hold his head up almost indefinitely 7 hours after being born (video proof). At 4.5 months now, he just sits around with head held high like a full-on human. He doesn't crawl yet, but can almost pretty much stand on his own already with just 10% extra support.
So, my baby army crawled before sitting up. He is now able to sit up at 5 months and balance on his hands in front of him. But he army crawled at 15 weeks. We think he'll sit up unassisted soon as every few days he gets more and more into sitting up. He puts himself into tummy time from the sitting position and all other positions like lying down etc. I say this so other parents can see a different order on the way to proper crawling
My son is 5 months old. He's started planking amd even scooting backwards but he still can't roll front to back. Back to front is no problem. He's been pivoting for a couple months now to get to his toys. He's been sitting up unsupported since early 4 months but needed help getting into the sitting position. It's funny how he's learning in such a strange order. But he's learning fast too. He loves tummy time and will spent upwards of 2 hours doing tummy time a day.
Update because this changed quick. Still 5 months. Now crawling. God help us because he's now trying to figure out cruising and our baby gates haven't even gotten here yet 🤦♀️.
My daughter rolled over every time she was on her tummy and now is a year and a half old and is still not crawling. She sits, lays down, rolls, then sits up again. She definitely needed/needs tummy time.
So my baby is 4months, started rolling around 2months, mastered her turning and rolling skill at 3months also she mastered lifting and holding her head up and sitting on her own before 4months. Shes now mastering the act of crawling.
Our little one at 6.5 months can do a limited army crawl. He hasn't planned our sat up on his own yet. He is getting do close to crawling. He is growing so fast.
Can I get help a first time mom and my little girl of 6 is just leaning how to sit but my main concern is that her neck is not yet strong so she still moves she head front and back.
It’s nice to have a video made by a dad when these sort of videos are usually made by moms. My experience raising four kids has been that it is much much easier to begin training them with boundaries when they are babies (like when they begin crawling) instead of reorganizing all of your stuff or moving dangerous objects out of their reach.

Honestly with my daughter we have only done a few mins of tummy time here and there since shes 2 months old and now shes rolling over at a lil over 4 months i think tummy time just helps with muscles but doesn’t define your babies growth
This is such a fantastic well-put-together video! Thank you my baby is at the push-up / plank stage, going to use your tips hopefully he'll be Crawling by Christmas LOL
Great video! However, you may need to modify the terminology. The first stage of the baby's movement is CRAWLING where the baby moves on the belly (CRAWLING) with support from the arms and by kicking either with the knees or feet (This is what you referred to in Stage 6 of your video as "Army crawl"). Where the baby moves on all fours (belly off the floor/ground) is termed CREEPING.
Your boy is gorgeous!!! And your video was very helpful, info said in a simple and clear manner and explaind with your s child experience. Love it!!!!!!
So fascinating! Both of my littles have army crawled and planked around long before getting into a sitting position. First little only tolerated short tummy time, but was a preemie and slept only on his tummy. Second baby from the beginning has preferred tummy time and has always rolled onto her side to sleep from the first weeks.
My 6 month old startd the planking and rocking at 5 months and, I was like "oh no! I'm not ready!" I barely get any work done as it is. Her being mobile sounded terrifying. She started crawling a few days ago, and I'm happy to report... I was completely right. The monster is loose.
Aw felt so proud of him as he was my son! Adorable! Thanks for this video! Very informative and hopefully my son will be crawling soon too! He seems to be entering stage 6 now!
My grandson rolled over both ways quite some time ago but only now at just turned 1 year old is he almost crawling. He started to crawl (can do it backwards but not quite moving forwards yet) and pull up on furniture etc at the same time. He was also slow at reaching out for things, but then eerything started happening at once. They really are all different.
@@ritabenewa7468 Don't....my grandson is now 15.5 months old and only now is he crawling properly. Not walking either. His dad /my son took a couple of steps at 15 months old then did nothing till he got to 18 months.

My 6 month old nephew is in the Army crawl stage, but when you place his bottle feed a little farther from him and he'll crawl on his hands and knees to go grab his food 😂😂.
My seven month old went from rolling over both ways to sitting up independently (if sat in a sitting position) to rocking/planking and army crawling to get to stuff. Hasn't quite done the sitting up on his own.
my 7 mth old has the moving her legs part down. she progressed to stiffening her arms. but she wont move her arms to help move her legs forward, poor munchkin. she must be like but im putting in the work tho! i dont get it. then gets frustrated, always looking back at me like i dont like this game, mommy! not really seeing immediate results here! she started on a goo goo phase today. & me trying to entertain her baby babble was like tiny person done turned on google mic, lol. oh wait, nevermind that was prob me. she really has that contagious vibe ...idk when kids stop pointlessly screaming but my kid will start off the chain anywhere. her breaking glass sound pitches will start and sure enough, some kid in the background, maybe up to early teens at most & - : . ahhh
Our daughter is 3 and a half months old and just started doing the commando crawl yesterday. A week before that she learned to roll from back to stomach. At 3 months she really mastered holding her head up on tummy time but she’s been pivoting while on her stomach for weeks now. I guess every baby is different. Our girl had always kicked and wiggled always since she was born. She has never liked to be still except when sleeping.
This helped a lot my baby was right where she needed to be after army crawling for a few weeks she’s now on her hands and knees crawling lol and pulling herself up now on furniture
Great video! He’s a cutie! My daughter just turned 8 months and I would say she’s stage 4. She loves rocking herself back and forth and planking. I feel like she gets frustrated because she can’t crawl but I’ll definitely keep encouraging her.
Yes, Xander would get quite frustrated too but it’s good for them to learn how to work it out! We wouldn’t let him stay upset for long but definitely encouraged him to try! :)
My baby started army crawling first, then planking, she still isn't sitting herself up (she can't push herself off that supporting arm) but she sits up well when we help her off the supporting arm (she's not quite 6 months).
My son just turned 9 months... He is crawling with ease, he stands on hands and knees briefly, but does not creep yet... Should I worry???his development looks great in every way...
Thanks for this information although I have 4 kids it's an 11 year gap from the youngest two and needless to say that I can't remember how quickly milestones happens. But I was very excited about this video especially because my 7 month old is hitting all of the correct milestones to say that she'll be crawling very soon
We had to choose our battles with the tummy time. Haha. Our daycare made it a priority which was helpful. He’s hitting his milestones on time, if not a little early.
Baby girl is 5 months today and she already rolls both ways, she shifts positions when on her tummy, and she tries to hold herself up on her hands. She’s a chunky baby so it might take her a few to learn to hold her weight up but I can’t wait! Xander is so cute btw!

Same here! They told me he was still too small to do it 😭 he’s 5 months now he knows how to roll back but not roll back to their belly
My 6.5 month and I enjoyed watching your video! Thank you for this it was very informative and were in the middle of rocking back and forth😂
Honestly with my daughter we have only done a few mins of tummy time here and there since shes 2 months old and now shes rolling over at a lil over 4 months i think tummy time just helps with muscles but doesn’t define your babies growth
This video is so precious. Outstanding at showing the developmental stages of crawling. Thank you for sharing!
love your videos. Thank you from Thailand
Very well done...the video,the commentary... everything.Xander is adorable...😊😊
Thank you! :)
What an excellent video. Thank you. :)
He is so adorable. What a blessing.
Aaaahh this is so cute I wish I had carpeted rooms . Our whole house is tiled and I feel like somehow that holding him back .
Your boy is gorgeous!!! And your video was very helpful, info said in a simple and clear manner and explaind with your s child experience. Love it!!!!!!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
sooo cute and helpful - thank you!
Is there a love button, "got where he needed to go by rolling" that's so darn cute!
My daughter does all of this it’s crazy she never really had a lot of tummy time she’s a pro 😂
My daughter went from planking to backwards army crawl.🤣
:-P
So did my son
My son too .......
Same
My 6 month old startd the planking and rocking at 5 months and, I was like "oh no! I'm not ready!" I barely get any work done as it is. Her being mobile sounded terrifying. She started crawling a few days ago, and I'm happy to report... I was completely right. The monster is loose.
I’m just seeing that your son has the same toy my baby girl does 💜 and learning .
Thank you.
My baby is 9months old and he is not crawling I’m so worried
@@ritabenewa7468 Don't....my grandson is now 15.5 months old and only now is he crawling properly. Not walking either. His dad /my son took a couple of steps at 15 months old then did nothing till he got to 18 months.
@@amandadavies.. awww thanks a lot I’m a bit relief now . He’s my first child and a new mummy as well so I’m really cautious about his developmental stages
@@ritabenewa7468 Every child is different.....don't worry he will get there when he's ready.
@@amandadavies.. Amen and May God bless you okay
This was so helpful, thank you!!!!
Thanks from a Grandmother from Texas!
So well explained, thank you so much! And your baby boy is so cute 😍
That smile is everything🥰
My son has that baby gym too still loves playing with it 😊
Both our kids have loved it! And we only walk around the house singing the songs MOST of the time :)
This helped a lot my baby was right where she needed to be after army crawling for a few weeks she’s now on her hands and knees crawling lol and pulling herself up now on furniture
my daughter has been doing the army crawl since day 1, before learning all the other skills
Good job, there is an excitement that comes when watching the videos and relating what our kids growing into
Thank you so much!
Hey when did she crawl
My baby started army crawling first, then planking, she still isn't sitting herself up (she can't push herself off that supporting arm) but she sits up well when we help her off the supporting arm (she's not quite 6 months).
My son just turned 9 months... He is crawling with ease, he stands on hands and knees briefly, but does not creep yet... Should I worry???his development looks great in every way...
My 4 month did an army crawl today i just had to look this up
Thanks for this information although I have 4 kids it's an 11 year gap from the youngest two and needless to say that I can't remember how quickly milestones happens. But I was very excited about this video especially because my 7 month old is hitting all of the correct milestones to say that she'll be crawling very soon
Great video, amazing job, thank you! Hope to see more! Your son is a star! God bless you from Croatia

Thank you for this video, so helpful to learn about the journey of crawling.
Thanks for this, your baby is adorable!
my 7month baby is at planking stage who propels across the floor like a penguin hahaha . your baby so cute
My son just started crawling last week. He’ll be 7 months on Thursday!!
So much useful information in this video. Thank you!
Sounds like she is well on her way! Thank you :)
Thank you for this video, it was exactly what I needed.
Thank u! I've been looking for smth like that)
My five months crawl frm the back not on the stomach...is it normal??
Thank you for this! My little girl is 9.5 months and has started to commando crawl. Just watched another video previous to yours and the lady doing the video said commando crawling is not normal and a sign of A typical development 😳
I know exactly the video you are talking about! My baby is 9 months old and we are working on the crawling too, how's yours doing? Do you have any suggestions? I found this useful: Emma Hubbard video about crawling styles
I love this video so much! Thank you for creating it!!!
And your son is adorable! He reminds me of mine a bit
Excellent delivery. Well done
I love dis vedio it is of much help thank u an ur baby is so sweet 😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩
Great video, my baby is 3 months old today and he did 1.5 m of army claws, which is very advance for 3 month old i think? He does roll over on belly from back and belly to back sometimes since he enjoyes belly time 😄
My 6 month old girl can flip from tummy to back but barely from back to tummy. I’m a little worried because she’ll be 7 months old in 6 days. She can sit up assisted but she has not been flipping from back to tummy constantly yet . Is anybody experience what I experience
Such a cute little pie, great video...thanks and love from Sri Lanka
My Son didn't do Planks at all. He started rolling over with 5 month and shortly after turning 6 month he started to arm crawl. That's where we're at right now.
Just what I was looking for thank you
