yvonne gathing Thanks, Yvonne! I appreciate the compliment. :)
Thank you, your videos are so helpful. Can strait-flex work for hairline cracks on walls and ceilings, since technically they are like a butt joint?
Strait-flex makes a tape for stress cracks, here goes:ua-cam.com/video/yV5oI_CuJio/v-deo.html
Your an A no. 1 Person Jane. All your video's are useful tools to our home DIY. If it wasn't for you I'd be hiring a contractor to do all my work. Thanks !!!!
you're very welcome, Joe!
we love you see jane ! just ordered this product
Hi Leah, thanks for sharing your knowledge, experience and skills, i have learned soooo much from watching your videos. i have never done any plumbing work before, i watched your video on how to install a toilet and vanity sink, i am going to challenge myself tomorrow on that task. thanks again.
Hi Leah,
Thank you for all the helpful videos! I used the tape measure to make a circle trick in drywall yesterday for lighting canisters. It was perfect! My questions is about having a drywall seam with a beveled edge and a not beveled edge. Should I still use butt tape? This is on the ceiling. I could take it back out and redo. I didn't realize I had a beveled edge until I put it up next to the existing ceiling. Butt tape is on it's way. So appreciate the video about it. Just in time!
Whippetfest Hi Whippetfest, that happens sometimes. It would be nice if you could always have a factory edge meeting another factory edge, but in reality, it doesn't always work that way. As for the butt tape, it isn't really designed to be folded and put in corners, because it is a little bit thick, but, it still can be done. Good luck!
Thank you, just what I need it. Keep the teaching videos coming.
is there anything you can't do, you quickly became my hero! awesome info. ty
WSR WeeklyPicks Thanks you so much, WSR! That is very nice of you to say. :)
watching your videos have motivated me to start doing DIY projects, Thank you so much, it will save me so much money, I have started to remove wallpaper from my bathroom wall and plan to paint it, estimates would have charged me 1500 to remove it and paint, no way was I gonna pay that much, being a single mom. your videos are great, again thank you. I have a question, removing the wall paper is tearing my dry wall, so i will skim coat the wall, can I skim coat over the wallpaper backing that I can't get off?
Hi Cocoa, no, you don't want to do that. It would be very bad to skim it with joint compound, because it won't adhere properly. What I would suggest is that you use a product called Gardz. It is designed for just what you are trying to do.
thank you Leah,we love you.
+ronin99999 :)
Thanks so much, I'm doing drywall in my basement today so this really helps!
greenhomes88 You're welcome! Good luck with your project. :)
As usual Leah, you are amazing!

Hey Keith, I'm pretty sure they ship all over the world! They are also really responsive to people's questions, so it couldn't hurt to ask
always bringing great videos and advice thank you, keep them coming
you da man jane! love this channel
Thank-you
Perfect ceiling butt joints are more difficult. Do you recommend Strait-flex for ceiling as well?
Can't believe how little mud you used. I just plastered my down stairs entry way and this would have saved me hours. Being able to do 1st and 2nd coat together is good. Can you seriously leave the centre of the tape exposed for the undercoat?
Alex reed Yes, it's the design feature with that particular product. The center of the tape is highly laminated which is what allows it to go without mud. It's an interesting and effective design. I feel obligated to mention however that the tape is more costly than ordinary drywall tape.
You rock Leah!!
Tboorohn Thanks! :)
Thanks Lea great video.....I have a hole to fix in a wall in our hallway..... will use your methods....TFS:
Southern Girl Interiors Hi Southern Girl, nice to hear from you again! Good luck with the project. :)
the total joint is not very wide,I would think the bump would be quite visible. I can see using this but applying a 10 to 12 in wide mud layer on either side. Well done video.
Ron Metropolit I have to assume that it will be less visible than a typical butt joint since no mud is left on top of tape..
Very helpful and well done video. Thank you Leah :-)
Mark Allen You're welcome, Mark! :)
Hi Leah; I just don't know about this muding thing; no matter witch way I do it I still suck at it. Is there a way to redo w/out having to hang new sheet rock?
HI Wendy, I recommend you watch this video that we did, called "How to Fix Drywall Mistakes". It might help. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/b1YmuWJckuM/v-deo.html
Your leg bone's connected to you butt joint! :-p
Great work! I always thought the tape would get stuck over the joint via a self-adhesive backing. It makes a lot more sense for it to be applied like you did it, making me realise any adhesive would dry out over time letting the tape bubble up.
jublywubly Thanks, jubly! :)
With the third coat of mud if there is little cracks/imperfections do you recommend a tight skim coat or sand it out?
Tight skim coat
Another great video leha, bravo:-)
I love you Leah.
Tammy Curell :)
Dam Leah Youre good!! lol question for butt joints do u recommend using the compound that u have to mix with water or the ready to go compound that u buy in a bucket.
It depends. Sometimes using a setting type compound in the first coat helps level out an uneven joint. I have finished with setting type joint compound on occasion but prefer pre-mixed for most jobs.
nice finish
kanda kumar thanks, kanda! :)
She's so good
You are amazing
Hmmm, was curious about the product. Nice technique, however....there is no way that narrow band of mud would result in an invisible joint, no matter how skillfully it was applied. You would need to go out about 14" on either side to achieve that.
Good video!!!!
Are you using 20 minutes or 45 or 90? looks chunky to me for some reason
I prefer not to use a setting-type joint compound when taping.
Everyone has their own way i suppose :-)
this is really the beginning of alot of checkout
:)
+seejanedrill shouldn't leave the tape uncovered because the mud and tape have different textures
Very good!
CrazyFingers0001 Thanks! :)
wow. look's Good. N yes we can Do it!!!💪 Thanks to you...👍👊👍👊👍👊👍👊👍👊👍
🙂
Why use a flex bead ? and not regular paper tape . and if flex tape is twice as thick as paper tape the your butt joint would have to be 4 feet across to eliminate the bump from the butt
Gerald Marks incorrect.... This is why there is no mud applied to the center of the tape.
very nice!
***** thanks! :)
You should know thar a Butt joint should be filled twenty four inches on each sied of the tape so you dont have a hump. when you finished, put a straight edge on your Butt joint you just did and see the hump .
In looking for this tape I have found allot of other Strait-flex brand products, is there a specific one I need to look for?
Bradley Dotson Hi Bradley, it's called "Butt Tape".
Oh man, I found it thank you! There was only one place that carries it. Thanks again!
those screws are too deep tore through the paper😮
ifs thats a butt joint, where are the screws? looks more like a line drawn on the wall.
Going to bet you don't try that near windows and bright lights. I have used the product. Always better to feather a butt out about 30 inches. Not easy but good mud jobs never are. 12 inch butt joint is going to shadow every time. Lets see that joint with a light on the side of it.
Nice job.. You should zoom in and more.. ☺
This was completely opposite of how you do a butt jount
I like joints just kidding!!!!
Sorry, but that is completely the wrong application for a butt joint! Some of your commentary was correct but your demo was incorrect on many levels...... A butt joint is to be worked out end to end at least 36 inches for a completely unnoticeable transition and of course, that's just in a nutshell discription!
she has no clue
Mr. DroCro you need to have a you tube channel full of video's to know less is better this is for homeowners only
Coming from someone with Hilbilly basketball to tell a professional in the industry what they have no clue about :-/ ? I have no clue about your comment
Sorry but you do not want a thick tape on a but joint, as you screwed your self by building
the but joint out even further making it show worse later.
That has not been my experience with this product.
Right you are.
amature
A mature what? Oh were you trying to spell amateur? LOL
she would go broke if she was a piece worker
hi Leah did you let it dry overnight between coats? and can I use the one I used for corners on regular joints? or should I get different type
hotmail1929 It is possible to go over it without letting it dry overnight, however, for ease of operation, you can go ahead and let it dry overnight. And, it is a different type of tape than the one for corners.
+seejanedrill thanks a lot, my basement is driving me crazy and your videos have been so helpful. ..
