Solving an equation with distributive property on both sides

- 👉 Learn how to solve multi-step equations with parenthesis and variable on both sides of the equation. An equation is a statement stating that two values are equal. A multi-step equation is an equation which can be solved by applying multiple steps of operations to get to the solution.
To solve a multi-step equation with parenthesis, we first use distribution property to remove the parenthesis, then we combine like terms by taking the variable terms to one side of the equality sign and the constant terms to the other side of the equation and evaluate them, and then we can isolate the variable by multiplying both sides by the reciprocal of the coefficient of the variable.

I'm here because my math teacher is so shit that she doesn't even teach us how to solve any of this stuff. Literally the only thing she does is put up a whole sheet of notes on the projector, take them down after 3 minutes letting no one finish them, and then assign us homework that we have about 25 minutes to do in class while we have no idea what we are learning about. She's an incompetent teacher at best. The funny thing is I've always done extraordinary well in math until this year. Thank you for actually helping me.

The reason its "-27" is because you're adding negatives, for example if you take away 7 apples and then take away 3 more how many did you take away? You took away 10. Hope that helped

Why didn’t you subtract 27 instead of 9x because that does not follow invers order of operations
5y-20=14y+7
5y-14y=7+20
-9y=27
y=-3
If you subtract 14y-5y isn’t it 9
