Hard Boiled (1992) Opening. (Hong Kong Rescue Edition)

This is the opening ten minutes of the extremely iconic John Woo film, Hard Boiled. This particular excerpt was clipped from the Hong Kong Rescue edition of the film, which restores and fixes up the issues inherent in the official releases of the film. The subtitles are from the same restoration, and are burned in to ensure that it can be understood with the original audio much easier.
Note, Hong Kong Rescue has some level of infamy for not shipping out Blu Rays to buyers. I did receive my order, which means I'm either lucky or the people behind it have gotten things back in gear. If you're interested in getting these restorations and don't want to risk not getting Blu-Ray's, I'd encourage getting the digital downloads instead. Regardless, until Criterion or some other well respected film restoration experts perform Blu-Ray restorations of John Woo's films from the original negative, with Mr Woo's assistance, this is as good as it gets. So enjoy.

One thing I’ve always liked about John Woo films is that the main character usually gets wounded badly or even killed. These films don’t always play favorites.

I have the Dragon Dynasty blu ray of this and The Killer. I have the first two A Better Tomorrow films on Anchor Bay DVD. I really wish that Hong Kong cinema was still celebrated now just as it was back in the day. So many great films!

Hong Kong Rescue’s website has just been shut down, so it’s likely that the “Bullet in the Head” restoration will never be released.

That is sad to hear. I suppose it was only a matter of time before that happened. I hope someday we'll have one of the Blu Ray owners of HKR films uploading the films on torrent websites.

Thanks for this. I've been looking through Reddit threads and tons of people have horror stories about HKR not responding to emails and even one guy waiting 18 months and still not getting his Blu Ray physical copies shipped. As much as I'd love to have a physical copy of this masterpiece, I think I'll stick with the digital download edition if I ever want to do business with HKR.

I was lucky for sure considering the horror stories. I prefer to have physical blu-rays if at all possible, and I'm pleased with what I got. The digital downloads are safer though, I can't deny that!

@@bencampolongo6254 The physical copies are still being sold from what I can tell. Also, considering HKR is working with an actual 35MM print for a Bullet in the Head restoration, I can't be surprised about the hush hush nature of things right now.
