@@eimearosullivan9548 I was surprised how well the infrared work. I won’t mind switching to that now when the light levels are bad instead of dragging a load of lights with me.
Good stuff Steve ya can’t win em all. I Enjoy the videos catch or blank…..it’s a learning process for everyone & if anyone thinks they know it all they haven’t a clue. Temperature & water levels are all over the place atm and them grebes working the swim certainly put fish on high alert. Looking forward to the next video See you on the bank someday 👋
@@Diffwrecker yeah first time using it. I won’t do over kill on it but it will mean I don’t need to worry about low light levels and dragging a load of lights with me.
Probably the toughest lake to fish in cavan,, it's so pressured! Some big perch have been caught there lately Steve which makes ye wonder.... Are the perch the dominant predator now? I've seen a big girl breach the surface a couple of times in the left hand corner from the jetty in the car park.... Get the bait boat out there next year... Still a cool video bud👍👌
We all been there man ,loads of lads blanking at the moment. Could be due to the warmer weather or a cold snap on the way who knows 😕!!but good to be out better luck next time 🐊👍
Its pike fishin, mate... you just have to dog it out.... drop the bait in with a good amount of free offerings .. then sit back and relax... 🤗 I never understand people deadbaiting moving their baits around, all yer doing is confusing the pike re. scent trail... Better luck next time... blanking is our (Pikers) stock-in-trade... slow down, stay put, the pike will come to you... my 2cents anyways ... 😎👍☘️🍻
@@peterfitzpatrick7032 absolutely mate. As I’ve said before a blank is all part of the learning on a venue. Apart from not catching I actually had a really enjoyable day just chilling in the woods. It’s a super lake.
Unlucky m8..think alot of the public waters in around cavan have been poached..fishin can be hard on them...like up here in the north ya really need to fish private lakes with farmers permission to stand a good chance of a decent days fishin.....best of luck this weeknd...
@FishingwithSteveIreland I've an anglers fancy on the shores of Lough derg, you more than welcome to use it anytime..it would be in the NENAGH side, moored on Lough derg
I just don't think the weather and air pressure is right for pike. I fished the river Stour in Dorset on Monday and blanked on an extremely prolific river. I had 6 missed runs on wobbled and float legered deadbaits. Pike were very half hearted picking up the baits. I think it is the weather so have decided to postpone pike fishing and go carp fishing instead. Maybe you should have a go for them instead? Were there many people coarse fishing on that lake? Have fished lakes in that area very successfully for pike and bream in the past but never that one. Were those bream on the drop off you could see? Toght lines Steve and i will continue to watch even if you blank. It is interesting to wstch other anglers and their approach. I have a very low tech approach co.pardd to you and use old traditional methods
It actually was Gerry. It was actually heaven just been sat there watching wildlife go by. Being able to switch off from work and everything else going on. It’s always a good reset for the head.
It’s a very difficult water lad, up the far side is where a lot of the big ones are caught, they sit around the mouth of the river where there can be trout. No access without a boat unfortunately
No offense bud but u shud fish for a year get good footage of you actually catching something , like you man only trying to help , I won't watch u blank again
@@robertblount5716 thanks for your comment Robert. On this channel I document my fishing trips whether I catch or not. Blanking is all part of the process. Even with a blank session you’re still learning things about each venue. If you don’t enjoy them that’s grand thanks for watching anyway.
Morning gents ,I get both sides of the story ,yes viewers want to see pike getting caught ,but it's also good for the viewer to understand all the blanks and sat in the cold for hours on end that we pike anglers go through .I have a channel myself and after all the time it takes to film on the day then edit ,it's all time consuming .I wish you 2 gents all the best and hope you have some huge pike this winter .tight lines .
Fair play as always Steve. Personally I love the refreshing honesty of your vids. For the uninitiated, even your tips and "kitchen sink" efforts are insightful and may help another angler save a blank another day. Your vids and channel are always improving in quality and content. One thought that occurs to me is how many anglers I see sitting still all day and expecting things to happen. This may well catch fish when the fish are biting but on those slow days (usually after significant pressure change), the experienced angler rings in the changes and tries the water columns, change baits, presentation, bottom to float and vice versa. My go to tip of the day is when all else has failed, deploy one rod to sink and draw and get active. This has saved my day countless times. Excellent work Steve and please keep up the effort. Your next PB is just around the corner mate

Hiya, have you ever fished Lough derg?? Great pike spot.
I hired a boat and did a day session in Portumna, but that was 20+ years ago.

There was a lad who showed up with a boat to fish the evening session and he headed down that way. I never got to speak to him to ask how he did.
