Dal makhani was invented in Amritsar my hometown by Hindu Panjabi Kundan brothers who moved to eastern Panjab after partition….maa di dal when cooked overnight on low heat becomes buttery naturally…That’s where it gets its name from…not by the amount of butter that goes into it afterwards..but now you won’t find that anywhere in the world not even at Kundan Dhaba in Amritsar….They add a lot of cheap oil…and btw none of Amritsari or Panjabi dishes used cream ever….even the cream chicken invented by Chawla was actually made by milk…
I had to google what hing was. It is often called "asafoetida" and is the resin from the roots of wild fennel plants. The resin can be sold pure or grounded and mixed with flour. If you can't find hing/asafoetida sold where you are, you can apparently substitute it with a less potent but similar tasting mixture of garlic powder, cumin seed powder and coriander seed powder. 2. 5 cubs of frozen garlic ginger paste and only 1/2 tsp chili to the butter. 2 cups of tomato puree where 2.5 tomatos for me. I did it on a pressure cooker for 15min after it reached pressure. Next time I would had 3.5 cups of water and 20min maybe. I used kashmir red chill and no coal at the end so idk if thats why it didn't turn out so flavorful

To me, HING smells like really strong cat pee. I have it inside a tightly sealed glass jar inside a Tupperware container. I hate the smell that much.

It's probably a mistk. Dal makhani is not supposed to have onions. The video is correct.

okay, for the rest of us who actually have electric cookers, what is "5 whistles?" how much time are we talking? High Pressure? low Pressure? what?
Medium heat until it's soft.
High pressure 18 minutes
Cook until water in Cooker finish and then again cook on High flam for another 10 minutes untill it all burnt out
