As a French person, seeing how much Asterix is known and beloved on the internet truly warms my heart like a fresh baguette out of the oven
The French are Frankish immigrants from the Rhine who resettled after killing and displacing the latinized Gauls which they themselves where already genocided by caesars expansions. The history of the land under the French is a storied one

@@fabshooter4891 I can use the word as a figure of speech to further my point, was it a genocide by modern definitions and UN qualifications no? But YOU do some research look at the numbers look at what happened to Gaul post assimilation and even while Caesar was conquering. I love Caesar but many past figures got away with a lot just because it was the norm for the time.
@@decanusseverus8773 The term is ethnocide, not genocide. Germanic descent is really pretty low in France, and the Franks themselves actually assimilated into the Romance language and identity that had already subsumed the Gauls before them, merely retaining their name and admittedly adding a great deal of Frankish loanwords to what would become known as the French language.
In short the French identity is actually a Latin one, not a Germanic or Celtic one. Although it has been influenced by Germanic and Celtic cultures, among others.
The ethnolinguistic heritage of France is actually the conquest of Gaul by Caesar and the subsequent Romanization of the region, since their language and culture today descends from the Vulgar Latin spoken there.

@@jinstronda2571 I wouldn't necessarily say crossfit, but real Soldiers perform the best with lighter athletic builds that have good endurance and strength. A lot of muscle is just unnecessary and slows them down. However, this is changing with the increased proliferation of vehicle-mounted infantry wearing body armor and a lot of heavy gear vs. the old purely footmobile lightweigth infantry of the Vietnam war and earlier.

I'm playing as the Julii and as I got closer to defeating the Gauls, their armies got better because I had destroyed so many routing warband units, they were able to afford some decent replacements.
Yeah, those warbands with 120 population drain and the 200 gold upkeep are really harsh on the barbarians economy, especially for the ai that doesn't know how to work around it

@@samuellittle7529 Tough luck. It was either keeping the AI as hilariously bad as it was, or try to make it as competent as it can be. Now they seem to have hit a weird point where the AI clearly has been improved over the OG, but is easily outperformed by newer titles, which means the nostalgic quirks have been lost, but newer TW people still are not impressed.
It does improve the game tho. Settlements can actually be in danger due to a more aggressive AI which has learned the power of teamwork/human wave tactics.
So it really up to you to decide. (Battle AI is barely improved, apart from wall fighting)

In my Gaul campaign every faction refused my alliance offer, and I'm being attacked by the britons and the germans in the north, by Dacia in the east and by the spanish and Carthage from the south. It's like they teamed up against me. Carthage doesn't even neighbor my territories, yet they marched up to mess with me alongside the spanish.
I completed a Gaul run in vanilla on normal. Hard but winnable. Some heads-up before my main suggestion. Asking for map info is a casus belli li for the AI, do not ask for it. Pair up the generals. Don’t leave any to be governor unless extreme public order prompts you to.
My game plan:
1. Farms and economy, limited roads
2. Unite all of Gaul
3. Guard vulnerable border settlements
4. Turtle and Boom
5. Take and isolate Spain
6. Push back sieging Britons and take Belgium
7. Push back and isolate the Julii
8. Finish off Julii and Spain
9. Finish off SPQR
Explanation:
Like Carthage, Greek Cities and Seleucids, outstretched and divided are the Gauls.
1. It is good to build at least one building every settlement every turn. Roads are same price as Shrines, but bordering settlements like Mediolanum, Condate Redonum, Alesia, Numantia can make the enemy pick you of slowly. I suggest the settlements above build shrines and economic buildings.
2. Gauls is partially divided by rebels settlements. Take Lugdunum and Massilia will allow more economic relief.
3. You are fighting 4 very aggressive if not treacherous enemies. The moment they see a weak garrison they assault. After taking the rebel Gaul settlements, quickly return to the very settlement your unit starts with. Leave Segestica and Iuvavum as buffer. No addition war with the Germans, Macedonians and Dacians are needed. Guard Narbo Martius and Numantia. Mediolanum and Condate Redonum can act as bait settlements for you to reinforce and train your generals stats.
4. Prioritize economic buildings and farms, the former and latter to your preference. Patavium is your main Warband manufacturer, no less important.
5. Spain is almost always the 2nd after the Romans to attack. Compared to Carthage, Gaul has a better chance of beating them. Most forces will spawn from Western Spain and New Carthage ( Carthago Nova ). Keep Patavium and Mediolanum afloat as well as Numantia, when you have sufficient funds, go for Osca and Scallabis. Carthage is pre-occupied and will most likely not pull anything until you almost annihilate Spain.
6. This task could be move up sooner. It largely depends on the timing of the Britons. Just push them back. Samarobriva can be stalled until you can muster 2 stacks or more on Alesia. Once you take it, the Britons will be confined to their island. If you want to be sure, create ships of 4 and sink their ships. They’re too bankrupt to even cross the English Channel anyway.
7. Segesta ( Genoa ) population is a ghost town. This means neither can train any significant military. If you take that, the enemy can always reinforce the western entrance and constantly pressure you. Instead, take Ariminum and force the Romans to guard their east and send only token force to Mediolanum. Build up and take Arretium, they will be confined and bankrupt. By now Mediolanum and Patavium left alone should be enough to start reinforce units for you. Finish off the red stragglers.
8. Take Asturica and the Spanish will be crippled. With Ariminum as a growth settlement and Arretium your melee camp, finish off the Julii
9. SPQR is never easy to take. Either because of their massed force or because their stacked generals. At this point, constantly assault them with half stacks and a generals full stack. Retrain the defeated units. Keep doing it until they retreat into Rome. Then build stacks and wear them down until they vanish. At this moment, the Brutii will come to aid the Senate by assaulting Ariminum. Ward them off, they’re coping with 2 Hellenic forces right now. If you feel daring, you can just take the other Roman factions settlements in Italy to cut them off and hang up on Rome.
Notes: I haven’t tried to sent a small force to lure the Senate to overextend like the speed runs yet. If you can pull that off while letting your main stack besiege Rome after 1 turn, more power to ya !
