    I eventually need a home server and there are some really affordable (albeit non-expandable) options. But the thought of network troubleshooting is daunting, would like to see a video on that.

    Hi there...i bought a 6 bay NAS from watching one of your older videos and its the best thing ive every bought. Ive got 4 10tb drive in there at the moment and got loads of room to back up my work from my day job and my hobby as a keen photographer...highly recommended for anyone watching this...!

    Selling new Nas without 2.5Gbe in 2023 is just horrible, singular reason I went for QNAP years ago. Especially with more than 2 drives.

    • @GregoryCunningham
      @GregoryCunningham 10 місяців тому

      But QNAP didn’t sponsor this video. So keep that good advice to yourself please. He’s got revenue to make!

    • @agoniavr
      @agoniavr 10 місяців тому +4

      @@GregoryCunningham he’s keeping it such a secret that it’s literally the first con he called out, saying it’s not great and that if he had to chose only one upgrade that would be it.
      He then mentioned using Synology products since way before this sponsored video(and being a follower since the early days I already knew) and that he just prefers their software over QNAP’s.
      I get not liking sponsored videos but your comment clearly shows you didn’t listen to the whole thing.

      @@CreatedTech appreciated!
      Always liked your videos for the honesty but even when you point out it's a sponsored video and call out the biggest flaws right away there's STILL people pretending everything in the video is invalid "bEcAuSe ReVeNuE!!"
      That said I work in IT and we also use QNAP at work and at our clients for that specific reason but, just like you, I chose Synology for my home setup specifically for the software so it's not like you're telling lies or saying anything crazy, it's actually the exact same experience I had.
      One day I'd also like to try TrueNAS on some old/refurbished hardware tho.

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  10 місяців тому +1

      @@agoniavr Honestly the built-in Thunderbolt on some of the QNAP enclosures nearly sold me back in 2020 when I first started looking. But I figured installing a 10GbE card wouldn't be too hard.
      The software is just on another level, definitely don't regret my decision! Apart from a few very minor issues over the years it's been running smoothly across all 3 NAS setups in my ecosystem (primary, offsite editor, backup).

    I really need this for my Mac as I am learning how to edit, backup, and all. But, without hands on help and only trying to drudge through it by surfing UA-cam... I am concerned about spending the money just to make a mess of things. If I could find a STEP by STEP video of how to build a specific storage set up for my Mac... I am just a bit too intimidated. I will keep searching and eventually give this a try one day.

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  10 місяців тому

      It's extremely unlikely you'll find an exact step by step video for a specific setup. That being said it's actually quite straightforward. Literally just buy a NAS enclosure, put some NAS drives in there, and Synology takes care of the rest and lets you set it up really easily. Then you just Google or UA-cam specific things along the way.

      @@CreatedTech Thanks for your reply. I must say, UA-cam is valuable in that way and I have had success in other matters. I just needs to quit being a cry baby and just go for it. Thanks again!

    Im just an ordinary home user who has collected large amount of raw photo files over last 17 yrs and collected so many external drives over the years getting a NAS a couple of years ago was essential sensibly protect my files and Dropbox or Google Drive just cant handle the thriughput, the complex options available but a NAS can. I did look at QNAP but after months of research i went with Synology for the software and simplicity. Right choice? I don't know but I like the UI and extra software available works for my sifutation. Cancelled my Dropbox subscription and that'll pay for intself over time.

    I’m really curious on why small to mid-sized channels use a hired editor. I watch many tech UA-camrs and many talk about how great Final Cut Pro is, or how DaVinci is the best, yet they outsource the editing. I’m sure it frees up a lot of time for them to make content instead. So these foreign editors must be really low cost to justify the expense!

    I absolutely love my DS220+ both for my digital life’s backups, my personal private Drive and to be able to run a small Plex server.
    The only thing it misses is the power to play 4K HDR movies to my TV via Plex but other than that it’s perfect!

    So you buy your editor a NAS and you have a NAS . Can he not edit of your nas if you just add it to yours as Im guessing it doesnt matter where the NAS is located and anyone can access once uploaded

    • @CreatedTech

      He can't edit off my NAS because it would be too slow. He would need to download all of the files locally to his computer. Me giving him a NAS is a better option because I can send terabytes of data to him and he will always have it ready locally.
