I had not heard of the pickler or the one with all the vowels. each christmas at the club we have a blitz tournament where one gets assigned one or other side of a random gambit, much ale is quaffed and much fun is had, maybe the Pickler wil feature this year.
The Erbenheimer Gambit game was played by a friend of mine J. D. (Dave) Turner (then of North Gwent Chess Club but currently playing for Malpas Chess Club) in a simultaneous event at the Lever Hall in Ebbw Vale many years ago.
I can help you with the game in the Erbenheimer - Hodgson was playing a compatriot of mine (and someone I idolised growing up watching him in Welsh tournaments), JD Turner (I think the J is Joseph). His games are full of wacky gambits that he was analysing and playing in the pre-engine days. Also an awesome human being!
Fascinating! Interesting to see a Basman game, as can always remember reading about him mainly due to 1.g4/g5 ideas, but also had one of his books with a very solid opening repertoire that was perfect for beginners.
as a king's gambit player looking to drop the scandinavian, I always intended to play the falkbeer as it's the strongest performing line under 2000, but I might revisit my theory to see if i can work the pickler in. the regular falkbeer is rare enough though.
This channel is for gold miners. You never know whether it will be rubble or absolute gold. I love it! (I leave it open to what category I assess this video :P)
I'm interested in the older classical gambits. When was the last time anyone played the Cunninghame Gambit? Looking at my old books I also find the Bertin Gambiit (or Captain Bertin's Gambit) but that requires quite a long line before it is possible.
Good fun, with some practicality. Please, here (and elsewhere) would you give sources for the names of your featured opening gambits, or indicate that you have dubbed them?
The baeuerle one looks like a similar line in the b6 opening with 1.e4 b6 2.d4 Bb7 3.Bd3 f5 4.exf5 Bxg2 5.Qh5+ etc and the computer lines are pretty insanes
If this word originates feom a german dialect it would translate into little pawn gambit, the pawn is called Bauer (farmer) in german, das bäuerle is a diminuitiv from it,....
"Baeuerle" is (I guess) a german nickname for pawn (pawn = Bauer; pawn in a nickname style = Bäuerle which means "little farmer" in a bavarian dialect)
Who indeed . . . he was a NM in the SF Bay Area back in the '70s, when other imaginative players like Dennis Fritzinger, John Grefe, James Tarjan, and Larry Christiansen were fighting against Browne for top honors. Then Yasser and a number of very good Russian emigres swept in and the immediate aftermath of the Fischer boom entered a new phase. I gotta say that, as a strong class player/weak expert, I had not heard of the Pickler Gambit, though I did know of its author.
If my friend Schrantz speaks the extra word ? actually ? you must take a shot. Now back in the day Schrantz would sat "actually" every other word. It has been a very hard fight for the man but after AA Actually Anonymous he tried hard to not go back, but he has relapsed. Now every time Schrantz says "actually" you must drink. Orange Juice or coffee or milk, but you have to drink.
How many of these gambits did you know?
1. the San Francisco Gambit
Just one 😢

I don't beleive in gambits!

You are so enthusiastic with your teaching. I can come home after a bad day and just listen to this joyous voice. Thank you for cheering me up!
Why was your day bad though?
You should absolutely record a video playing the Pickler gambit in more games.

6:43 this reminds me of that gambit in the Owen Defense but somehow black has no b6 pawn.
I recognized none of the gambits.

Pretty interesting that pickler gambit, looks sorta like a black version of the danish because you can recapture with the bishop if he takes on b7
I really love your trilogy on the King's Gambit. I probably watched that series five times. Thanks for teaching me my favorite opening.
That Balogh gambit reminds me so much of the Tennison for white. Gonna try it out when I get the chance

The king dug too deep in the Budapest and woke the Balogh...
Out of these I only knew about the first. Have you heard of the zilbermints double gambit?
1. e4 e5 2. f4 Nc6 3. Nf3 b5??
I have never heard of these gambits. You did a great job of finding them. Thanks for the video.
Love the 'Pickler' and am gonna try it.
Great video!

Bertin is great fun!

nice gambits! thank you
Agadmator must love the san francisco gambit, since he loves to play b4... the best move in most positions ;)
I learn a lot from your teaching style!

Dude. Kudos for your content. You have won me games!
fans of the baeuerle gambit may also like the kucharkowski-meybohm gambit in the polish opening, 1. b4, e5 2. Bb2, Bxb4 3. f4
Alternative title: try these in blitz/bullet instead of the bongcloud or the fred
Jonathan, have you ever encountered thé Yozhik gambit ?
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 a6 3.Nc3 b5 4.cb ab 5.Nxb5 e5 6. de Ne4
I personally gambit all the time, now I may not gambit on purpose but we don't talk about it.
I actually have been playing pickler gambit for 2 years, and it has been my main weapon against kings gambit and actually I have 80% win rate with it
Thanks for your hardwork, we all benefitted from you.
It would have been nice to know more about these games you were following.
I knew none of them but I saw similar or almost the same gambits under otger names. This Pickler-gambit is like a reversed Göring-gambit.
"Baeuerle" is (I guess) a german nickname for pawn (pawn = Bauer; pawn in a nickname style = Bäuerle which means "little farmer" in a bavarian dialect)
man that subscribe call, I found myself rushing to click the damn button :)
Bäuerle is actually German for little pawn, but I'm not sure if it is rather the name of the inventor. Still a nice name for a chess player XD
So we heard you liked gambits. So we put a gambit inside of a gambit inside of a gambit!
The Pickler looks like a Reverse Danish
well tickle my pickle im a fan of the pickler! def gonna pick it up to surprise my friend who plays the kings gambit
Its pronounced as boyerle btw. which just means pawn gambit.
ive heard of all of them thanks to you
Perfect, Thanks a lot.
When are you going to put a Chessable book together bro?
Do a video on Dumas gambit
Who is Gary Pickler though?
Who indeed . . . he was a NM in the SF Bay Area back in the '70s, when other imaginative players like Dennis Fritzinger, John Grefe, James Tarjan, and Larry Christiansen were fighting against Browne for top honors. You've heard of the Benko Gambit, but anybody heard of the Brooklyn Benko Gambit?
I've never saw any of those gambits. Time to ruin my 1100 blitz rating by losing with the Pickler Gambit lol
bäuerle = baeuerle gambit in german would be pronounced like boy-er-le in german. the name means "little farmer" 🙂

The pickler turns into the Evans gambit! At least all the ideas, only it is for black! The more you play, the more you know. Thanks!

Grob gambit💀
you're a cool dude!
These rare gambits speak for themselves

I love terrible gambits, my rating hates terrible gambits
I'd re-sub if it was allowed. It's a joy sharing a joy! Love your style..
baaaiiiiiieee
Day 22 of asking for a video on my funny English lines
how's that goin' for ya?
@@KF1 I’m still askin for it lol, he mentioned in a stream that he was waiting for a clickbait number so I may be going until 69
@@grim_blazer9120 Good luck in that case. After day 3 I'd probably just do it myself.
I love you videos, but please stop these faces at your thumbnails
