    Sergei Prokofiev - Piano Concerto No.3 in C major Opus 26 (27')
    0:27 I. Andante - Allegro
    9:37 II. Tema con variazioni
    18:26 III. Allegro, ma non troppo
    The Easter Festival is an internationally renowned event among classical music lovers, traditionally opened in Moscow on Easter Sunday. Each year the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its musical director Valery Gergiev travel across Russia - for the past 10 years now!
    In 2012 we were given an exceptional musical gift: the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev performed the complete cycle of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies and piano concerti - a composer with whom Maestro Gergiev and the orchestra seem particularly in tune.

    Not only was this so WELL played by a technical master, the showcase of Prokofiev's genius to create this Masterpiece it will endure to the end of time. Prokofiev throws everything technically at this work. It is such a physical pianistically Olympic marathon of endurance and it was so WELL played. What a gift to the world!!!

    Сегодня слушала этот концерт в исполнении Давыдченко- победителя конкурса Чайковского 23 года - больше мне понравился - у Прокофьева много волшебного и графики, но здесь Мацуев лучше, чем с этим же концертом я его слушала в БЗК.Тогда я сидела с прекрасными родителями Дениса, попросила их передать сыну, что Прокофьев- не только техника, хотя с этим пианист блестяще справляется.Мама ответила , что ничего передавать не будет, потому что Денис только с самолёта, а отец его обещал передать мои пожелания.Мне больше Гершвин у Мацуева нравится, и вообще джаз- это его.И очень много он делает для молодых музыкантов.Только сейчас прошёл потрясающий конкурс в Москве- Grand Piano.

    I don't understand why Matsuev substitute the double-note scale (26:27) with a simple glissando. It's not even a double note glissando. It's what I think a lesser pianist would do to accommodate the technical challenge. It's not like it's too difficult for him, right? For me, yes it's tricky, but surely not for him. Glissando doesn't have that unique effect that, come to think of it, quite revolutionary on Prokofiev's part. Rarely do we see such a thing in other music.

    • @binkyboobosh1
      @binkyboobosh1 8 років тому +3

      This is commonly done. The gliss version is more impressive on the ear. I'm sure he is capable of both. I've seen it done in 3 ways...a gliss, a simple 2 hand scale and a rather weak but visually interesting 2 hand on top of each other semi-staccato. The final version is the correct one, I understand, but it slows the tempo so is rarely used.

    • @remsan03
      @remsan03 8 років тому

      I don't know about common. Every Prokofiev 3 I've heard so far do the diatonic double scale. The only time I saw this was in a movie (a rather bad movie about a woman competing with this piece). And in my humble opinion it sounded less exciting with the glissando. I expected more.

    • @Pian0Art
      @Pian0Art 7 років тому +3

      In my opinion, that double-note-passage is no big problem if you just distribute it onto the two hands via hand-crossing. With that, you have enough power to produce a huge sound while being able to play it in tempo.
      ...that aside, this is maybe the perfect concerto for Matsuev. The power he has just sweeps you away!

    This guy can't fool me. Whilst they in the audience may like the pianist (although the reaction/reception was deservedly muted), and some here do admire him, I cannot. If the basic accuracy is missing no showy approximations can cover up for you. The orchestra under Gergiev are however very good.

His playing is only with physical power, with clash, with aggressive staccati, very dry sound, and showing only that he is the best, without singing on the instrument, without thinking on the character that are founding in this concerto. Where is the music??Where is the narrative??Where is Prokofiev??Oh, sorry, is only Matsuev there, and nothing else is valuable. To be only a pianist with fast fingers, but without thinking musically, is far away of being a real musician.

      @@eveeve7026 Im not talking about competition here. If you want to judge people for their opinion, you are welcome but give your idea at least. Music is not a horse race but for some kind of pianist, musician and people unfortunately yes. Everybody has the right to give his own opinion. So if you don't like it, is not my problem. Thanks!
