    The Easter Festival is an internationally renowned event among classical music lovers, traditionally opened in Moscow on Easter Sunday. Each year the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its musical director Valery Gergiev travel across Russia - for the past 10 years now!
    In 2012 we were given an exceptional musical gift: the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev performed the complete cycle of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies and piano concerti - a composer with whom Maestro Gergiev and the orchestra seem particularly in tune.

    Absolutely wonderful. Few violinists have a tone so consistently sweet and pure as Kavakos. It never becomes harsh or strained even in the most demanding passages. One of the best violinists of these times.

      Absolutely. This concert is known for obliterating even the best violinists. Even Perlman struggled a lot with this thing and I found it incredible how Kavakos just plays it flawlessly. No scratches, no struggle and everything in tune. Inhumane!

    i don't understand why people think classical music is boring, is so emotional, epic and poignant. it makes me feel human i love it. And i hate that stigmatism that is only for a few people. And I hate those people who think that those who listen to classical music are elitists

      because people think classical music is: ''all adagio movements of 19th century (or earlier)'' + ''mozart for babies''

      Because when you don't play an instrument and have only heard it, it *sounds* calm. Most folks that listen to classical don't sit around listening to Paganini caprices or Chopin's etudes where they're just blazing away.
      Even though some of his parts in here are really fast, they blend in with everything else and are easily missed by people who don't understand music

    What a conductor! You take a look at him at any point and it's almost as if you're listening to the music. And then you hear the music and you are trying to find the words to describe what you're hearing, but I'm pretty sure that there is no word for that kind of music. Thank you and Bravo!

    Fantastic! Gergiev, Kavakos, and this orchestra are just sublime.
    I’m astonished at how spare Kavakos’ vibrato is in the opening. And Gergiev’s ‘ Bugs Bunny’ conducting hands have always fascinated/amused me. 😅
    But perhaps the real stars of this video are the videographers/video editors. 🎥

      Classical really means old school from around 1760 to about 1830. It has developed a broader meaning covering the earlier Baroque period up until Romantic musical period ending around 1900 or earlier. After that, all bets off! Modern is not classical, its wild.

      Gergiev conducting all 6 Tchaikovsky symphonies is available on 2 DVDs (I have Nos. 4, 5, 6; and I assume the first 3 are out by now. The Pathétique (No. 6) is a MUST see and hear because I have waited many years to finally hear a performance from a conductor and orchestra that truly understand Tchaikovsky's heart and mind, especially during his last few days on earth. Each note, each phrase, each pause is perfect. The performance is like a memorial to the great but tragic Tchaikovsky.

    • @duif4b
      @duif4b 5 років тому +8

      When I play violin in an orchestra concert, a standard suit is often quite confining for my arms/shoulders, and the tie or bow-tie gets in the way of the violin. So maybe he chose the chinese style because it looks great and doesn't have those drawbacks which are even worse for a soloist than for the regular tutti violinists. Also, he's the star and has nice hair, he can wear what he wants ;-)

    Certainly nothing wrong with his playing technically I suppose but his sound is a bit too controlled for me watching his fingers all time doesn't allow much freedom soundwise no relaxed virtuosity just keep watching, watching which is totally unnecessary. Trying to play with arms wide open simply helps better breathing and being more open to yourself and auditorium. Get connected and trust your body does the right thing if you don't see what you're doing. Short notes are not resonant here.
