    The song kills...as do the performances! And your enthusiastic reaction upon hearing it for the first time made the listening/viewing experience that much more enjoyable.

    For me, it's Dirty Loops and Snarky Puppy. I listen to both of them, over and over when I need a fix. I'm not a musician and I don't pretend to know what all they are doing - I just know they make my ears very, very happy.

    Great reaction! But you haven’t seen their cover of Thriller yet?? It’s absolutely amazing and the horn arrangement is stunning. And their instrumental, Turbo, is a blast and I return to every time I need a joyride.

    If you want to demonstrate some power funk to the students, perhaps show them the Wong/Loops doing Turbo as well as this. All instrumental.

      I have no idea how to pronounce that but I concur 100%, a huge part of their appeal is just how much fun they have playing as a group. I'm jealous, getting to see them live would be a dream.

      Also to hear Them live in nov. In Copenhagen. Looking so much forward to this event - been in The rabbit Hole for more than a year now and never get tired. Kind of therapeutic. Always so great to see and hear these reaction videos often blowing peoples minds off. .I am not a musician and enjoy both to learn more and more about The technical stuff that ads new perspectives when listening to their songs. And of course enjoy that also professional musicians Can enjoy and be totally surprised and amazed. Greetings from Copenhagen

      They are such a good band but the video uploads of their live performances don't do the band justice. I blame their management. For the sophistication in their music, they really need a proper AV team to record their live performances. It is imperative, given their success was in part due to their own audio video productions uploaded to UA-cam.

    I want that rich musical texture of horns, bass, drums and keys during the chorus shot into my veins. I have a serious addiction to Dirty Loops. Have you reacted to Jonah's solo work? PLEASE do "Coffee Break featuring Richard Bona." You won't regret it!

    The craziest part to me is how this was recorded; the Cory Wong band is stateside (Minnesota, I believe) and Dirty Loops are in Sweden… Cory commented in an interview how insane the session was…
    Fun fact: Cory Wong’s horn section was, in fact, originally the ‘Horn Heads’ who played with Prince.
    As a fellow horn player, i STRONGLY suggest you react to the cover of “Thriller” from this same album… and take notice of the horns used.

    Loved your reaction - always nice to see someone who understands how insanely high skill level this is get blown away. Aron, the drummer, does the video editing. Going to my third concert with them in November and crossing my fingers that their new album will be out by then. The first single from it, "Run away", was released 6 months ago and features them all in a full 80s tribute - until Henrik... - no... You'll have to see it for yourself! 😂 Their sense of humor is up there with their musical skills so always check out the credits for a good laugh!

    Thanks Shawka for a great reaction to this banger!
    Let us know what your band camp people thought of these dudes and their fire playing and arranging…..
    I certainly found your description of funk-style playing interesting, with that space between notes.
    The intro is taken from some Bay Watch theme song, hence Pamela Anderson features large in the credit section 😉
    Check them out, they’re usually worth reading.
    One of the millions of things I love in this track, is that crazy run half a bar before the final key change, compressing and then releasing everything -pure genius.
    Since you’ve mentioned “Thriller-esque” somewhere, and in one of your comments said that a reaction to it is happening in October, I look forward to that very much!
    Oh, and talking about Henrik’s 🔥 playing; have you seen their latest release, “Run Away”? Totally worth checking out for more Henrik-craziness!!
    Also, I’d love your reaction to “Next to You” (talking about funk 🔥🔥🔥)
    Cheers ☺️👍🙏

    The trombone player is making the horn arrangements here together with the band. He used to play with Prince on both studio recordings and live.
    For clarity in a funk song, listen to the song Turbo.
    The big drum is a Gong Drum and can be heard used often on the song Work Shit Out.

      @@cdanielpetersson I replied but can’t see it, so here again:
      Michael B. Nelson is a trombonist, arranger, composer and longtime member of the Hornheads.
      His credentials on the Hornheads page are nuts.
      And check out more Cory Wong stuff where he sometimes features ✌️

    As another horn player (although I play the french horn, so more on the classical side) I wholeheartedly agree with everyone that says you need to watch Turbo from the same collab album. It can be found on Cory Wong's channel. Also, the horn section interlude in Thriller is amazing! And, as you said you play the trombone, do yourself a favour and listen to Zap from that album as well (unfortunately there's no video for that one). That trombone solo is well and truly bananas. I'm seriously considering transcribing it for horn in F, so I can play along to it, because it is so cool. I totally suck at transcribing by ear on the horn, so for now I stick to singing along to it at the top of my lungs. 😅📯
    Oh, who am I kidding. Listen to the whole album. It's bonkers good. Four of them have videos, so you might want to save the other three for this channel (I hope
    😁): Follow the Light, Thriller, Turbo, Ring of Saturn. The others (Zap, Hardtop, and Hästråtta) are just audio, and well worth a listen. Hästråtta has a dope bass clarinet solo for example.

    Just curious; why do you refer to the horns as the wind sound? Isn't "wind" a reference to woodwins? I realise the sax belongs to wind family but there's just 2 in an ensemble of mostly horns.

    • @ShawkaReacts
      @ShawkaReacts  2 місяці тому +2

      Winds meaning instruments that use air. I'm not referring to the woodwind or brass families. It's to distinguish between the wind section and the non-wind section (guitar, bass, drums, etc.)

    • @rachmann516
      @rachmann516 2 місяці тому +1

      @@ShawkaReacts - That's new to me; traditionally "the winds" is the woodwind section of the orchestra. In jazz or popular music, woodwind players is sometimes referred to as "reed players" if they primarily play saxophone or clarinet. I see you have a broader definition of "the winds"-interesting.

    • @lottawiklund8606
      @lottawiklund8606 2 місяці тому +1

      @@rachmann516 In Sweden we have the exact same definition as ShawkaReacts. I've always thought that was the regular definition everywhere. I play the french horn, which is a brass instrument, but also a wind instrument. If referring to one group only we say woodwinds (träblås) or brass. Now, I do come from the classical music side, but the definitions of a wind instrument (blåsinstrument) is still an instrument that requires you to blow air into it, whether it's through a reed or a brass mouthpiece, and regardless of music genre. Interesting to hear that the definition varies.
