Favorite quote by Ricky Gervais (paraphrased), "There have been roughly 3000 deities worshipped on this Earth, and you don't believe in 2999 of them... I simply just don't believe in one more."
Agreed.
He also made a point that theists are just one god away from being atheists. 👍
These days, when people say they're religious, I just feel sad for humanity.
Even more disconcerting is when someone I generally find very likable says, 'I'm religious even though I know the claims are explicitly in violation of observable reality'.
Same
Yeah, it is a bit weird that some people still believe in that in this day and age.
We're in the ago of "prove it, or it didn't happen" and yet some people do still blindly believe in a God of some sort with no evidence at all. 2000 years of advanced, intelligent civilization and not a single shred of evidence of a "God" but some people still believe it because their parents told them.
Can't blame them though. They were told at a young age when their brains had to believe what they were told.
And thry,re in charge!
I understand what you guys are saying, but not all Christians are as close minded as you portray them to be. Also, if you would read the Bible thoroughly, you would know that most things which seem to contradict, don’t necessarily do so. And what I find funny, is that a large number of very famous scientists believed in God (or didn’t exclude he could exist), despite their incredible understanding of the world we live in :)
I admire and respect your ability to see the humour in religious jokes. Not a lot of religious people can laugh when their faith is joked about.
She's certainly an excellent example of childhood intellectual abuse.
"Not a lot of religious people can laugh when their faith is joked about." - The choice is simple: They can either laugh at jokes about their beliefs, or we can laugh at them...
A 100.000? More like :
1.871 million Cambodians died as a result of Khmer Rouge policy
Or 20% of the country's population...
dying as a result of policy or intentionally killed by policy? Because if it's just the former, that's nothing. Britain got 100 million in just a 40 year span in India.
@@paulhitchens7180 i think the clue was the entire joke where he mentioned it with the glasses lol
Lol, next week, evidence and make believe, are they the same?
It’s a shame the clip you watched cut off where it did because he continues to tell the story of Adam and Eve. If you can find the full clip, it’s great. To this day, I still love the line, paraphrasing but “And God saw the light and saw that it was good. Even though he said so himself. I mean…there’s pride in your work and then there’s arrogance” Do try to find it, I think you’ll enjoy it.
I concur.
Ricky is a legend, he shows how ridiculous religion really is.
@@krsimir1 Absolutely. 👍
Christian/Abrahamic religion
@Rajas Kane all religion
@@DLites151 "Christian/Abrahamic religion" - All of them, actually. They're just ridiculous in (slightly) different ways... However, ridiculous in one particular way or ridiculous in another, is still 100% RIDICULOUS! 😊
For his shows. In private he can talk about sympathy for the message, but that's not much to build comedy on.
I think most people share Christian values about being kind and help each other but many have a hard time with magic, gods and demons.
Everyone has the right to believe what they want, but Ricky is correct. You're also correct in saying it's bonkers.
He goes way beyond that little bit you saw. That was cut insanely short. You should do the whole skit.
This was cut at an odd place - it started with a bit that had nothing to do with the "Reads the Bible" bit, and left out more than half of the Reads the Bible bit. Which is too bad, because it's great! This one only caught the beginning of it.
Sounds crazy because it is crazy
then explain exactly the true origins of everything from the very begining that all scientists agree to, any less crazy( everything from nothing), really?( non religious by the way)
@@stevechurch4728 just because you can't understand it doesn't mean it's not true. Besides far more likely than a guy that made everything who made him and so on
@@ovidiumiinea5462 strange notion of god you have, what proof do we actually have that our version of everything from nothing is correct, as little as we have for the presence of god. @@stevechurch4728 what models are you talking about?are u talking Darwin model? Or maybe Einstein model ? These two models explain the world around us better than religion will ever do
@@ovidiumiinea5462 the models explaining the begining of the universe and therefore everything.we don't understand how it all began, none of the models have been correct by our observations. so is that not enough to instil an element of doubt enough to question our own beliefs. religion fills the gap and adds a moral frame work for our laws. how much of civilization would we have without that frame work to both our social and judicial systems.religion has no truths except perhaps how we should treat each other beyond family ties and local connections. can we really say atheism has added more on as broad a basis, not sure ?
Faith would require me to be willfully ignorant and I have a big problem with that. To believe something is true through the lens of ignorance is to say the least, a foolish endeavor. Religions and their beliefs cannot stand on their own merits solely due to willful ignorance being their guiding light.
So true, wilful ignorance makes me mad AF.
Audio distorts when you speak on top of the video. There is a cure for that: sidechain compressor or ducking compressor. You apply it in edit. What it does is that it measures the mic sound levels and turns down the video sound levels accordingly. This is why it has the nickname "ducking" as it means that signal A ducks, lowers its volume when signal B is present (signal A being the video, signal B being the mic in this case). Ducking compressor uses fairly aggressive ratio, 10:1 or so, and the threshold is adjusted for each setup, if there are adjustable attack&release timing, those are set to fast attack, 20-50ms and release is around 100ms.
On top of that, the whole "cake", the mixed audio should have mild compressor and hard limiter, compressor set to for ex 2:1 ratio, -18dB threshold and the limiter should be at -3dB. It means the compressor will make loud sounds quieter and the limiter stops the signal from going over the limits, it will turn everything down before distorting the output.
Understanding how compressor and limiter works is not the most intuitive process but the production quality increases quite a bit. That is what EVERY professional uses, in every radio, TV, every youtuber who knows their shit has those.. They are considered standards in broadcasting. The mic and the sound quality in the room are already good, so.. this is the last little bit that makes things.. professional..
PS: everytime the signal output meter shows red, that whole thing should be rejected and you would have to do everything again.. it is that worst crime in audio, digital clipping is not tolerated at all.
Ricky had multiple shows of this kind every one about a specific topic - Animals, Politics, Fame and Science
Everyone says watch the Killing Fields, but that was produced with "assistance" , editing, and collaboration from a group that killed even more people, AND supported the Khmer Rouge before an after their genocide.
This Ricky's bit is one of his greatest, next to "and I thank god for making me an atheist" :D
You should check out his noah's ark bit as well. He grew up christian so he has a lot of good bits on religion.
Yes! The Book of Noah is my favorite! Then Humpty Dumpty second.
He grew up Christian for eight years.
And then he just grew up, full stop, or period as the Americans say.
@Ami Fun fact... At no point does the "Humpty Dumpty" rhyme say that Hump is an egg, or male.
@@moggpiano8043 While it is true that I believed the character known as Humpty Dumpty to possess similar characteristics to that of a chicken's egg, (as opposed to an ostrich, salmon, sea turtle, insect, dinosaur or human/mammalian egg) basically oval, fragile, delicious & nutritious...I hadn't necessarily considered whether I should decorate it in blue or in pink for the Easter _hunt._
Britt if you want to see a movie about Cambodia's Khmer Rouge regime's killing of 100,000 of its own people watch the incredible 1984 movie 'The Killing Fields'. It had eight Oscar nominations and won three. It is great in humanising what seems incomprehensible.
Of course 100,000 or 200,000 is way low. The resl figure was way over a million deaths.
The gorilla thing happened twice. Ricky is talking about a much older incident and not the Harambe in cincy one you are thinking of. Pretty crazy there’s 2.
Please consider doing Russel Howards bit about a fancy dress funeral, it's amazing and not only is it funny but it's a true story.
Agreed, it is hilarious. And as you said it's a true story.
If you wonder about Pol Pot and Cambodia you must see the movie "Killing Fields" based on a true story.
Of course it's one of his shows. His shows are top notch: Animals, Science, Fame, Politics and Humanity.
You pointed out that Christianity is highly unlikely on the surface but you believe it because it is comforting. The fact that is comforting should be a signal that it is wishful thinking rather than real.
That's only a small part of him talking about The Bible. The show is called Animals, it's wonderful, and Ricky's observations on religion, himisexual animals and Nazis iare brilliant. Watch it. He goes on to talk about Adam, Eve, the snake, is really well done.
Faith is the excuse people use when they have no reason to believe.
I liked his film, The Invention of Lying”. Puts a spin on the blind faith of religion.
He has his routine's note headings written down behind the lectern and uses his drink as a reason to go and check on them.
The "men should be locked up" joke about men throwing slabs was the fact that it was already a prison in, and the slabs were from the prison roof in a riot.
Yeah. Ricky explained that.
@@fezzik7619 she didn't, hence why I did it! Are you mental?
@@gavinhall6040 Who is “she”? I said RICKY explained it in the joke you dummy. You didn’t need to explain it again. Pay attention!

Greetings from Sweden
It sound crazy because it is crazy.
There’s a lot more to that piece, worth watching.
"Comforting"
Nailed it.
Wonder why this stopped before it got really interesting?
As an atheist I would urge you to read your bible again - from start to finish and then decide whether you want to believe in a "loving" and "just" god that carries out genocide (even of innocent babies), recommends child abuse, gives you rules for your enslavement of people you own as property (slavery), and threatens to punish you for all time for your temporal sins etc etc etc.
Hi BrittReacts, your question about the how of " Pol Pot " killing 100,000 people of Cambodia will require delving into history. You could watch the hollywoodized movie about the topic and get sort of the gist of the situation. The movie is: " The Killing Fields (1984) ". Also, later on the story was placed into music by " The Dead Kennedys " with UA-cam video: Holiday in Cambodia
About Harambe. A little boy fell into the enclosed area and landed in the ditch at the bottom of the moat. Harambe scrambled down and without caution grabbed the boy by one appendage and carried him up the embankment then sat next to him. The zookeeper decided to execute Harambe for his trouble to save the little boy.
" Harambe (May 27, 1999 - May 28, 2016) was a western lowland gorilla who lived at the Cincinnati Zoo from 2014 to 2016, and previously at the Gladys Porter Zoo for 15 years. On May 28, 2016, a three-year-old boy climbed into a gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden where he was grabbed and dragged by Harambe.[3] Fearing for the boy's life, a zoo worker shot and killed Harambe. The incident was recorded on video and received broad international coverage and commentary, including controversy over the choice to use lethal force. A number of primatologists and conservationists wrote later that the zoo had no other choice under the circumstances, and that it highlighted the danger of zoo animals near humans and the need for better standards of care.
Harambe became the subject of internet memes, songs, a video game, a statue, and other tributes and recognitions.

I'm one of the people that doesn't like the idea of "faith". I say the hell with faith I'm choosing reality! I believe in what can be proven and what we KNOW not what we want to believe
Aw, it cut out at the end before his best line.
"He went, 'That's everything.; let's have a look. Brilliant!'"
You definitely have to check out his take on Noah’s Ark. you will cry laughing 😂😂😂
It was not just 100.000, more into the millions. I can recommend watching the documentary - The Act of Killing, if you have the stomach for it. Then again it is just human nature, nothing worse than WWII or what happens in Ukraine right now.
"and to others, it is wildly comforting and... erm... *questions the bonkers, nonsensical, and ludicrous faith held for so many years simply because of parents' beliefs and societal beliefs (what you're made to think is true without questioning), and (ultimately) fear for a little too long there* believable." Okay.
Britt, I appreciate your willingness to explore these views that may be counter to how you were raised. I don't have a problem with folks using religion as placeholder for the gaps in science but most of us know the Bible is whacky and contradictory and I sense you know that.
Look up Khmer Rouge......Pol pot and the gang..... Peace!
1:32: It's called being efficient and a tidy workman.
Ricky gervais challenges everything but manages to make us laugh about it too
Alot of comedians have a drink on stage. Alot more from the U.K. even on late night shows.

I always found it funny how god says "let there be light." 'Let' there be. He could have said 'light' or snapped his fingers, wiggled his nose, but no, he's telling something to let it happen. Who or what is he saying this to? The world itself? Does he need the world to allow the light to exist? Maybe the world must obey him, you can argue that, but it seems like god can't just make it happen himself, he needs the world to also allow it to happen, even if by irrefutable command. They wrote restrictions into god's power right at the third sentence. If there were no restrictions there, then god wouldn't be telling the world or whatever to let it happen, he'd just make it happen. Let's assume god's commands were possible to refuse. What if the world said no? Would there be no light in that case? Would god be thwarted? Powerless? Why didn't they write it as "then god created light" instead of him commanding something to allow it? After all, he didn't ask anything to allow the heavens and the earth to exist, he just made them. Now that they exist, he must tell them to allow changes to be made to them. It's kinda like god had a couple of kids he's now in charge of. He tells them to do things and they have to listen and do as they're told.
I am an atheist and have heard a lot of arguments for the veracity of the Bible and religion in general. I usually wonder why faith isn't enough. If you believe that your religion is true, why is that not enough for you? Attempts to prove its truth through reason or logic only fail to convince, or worse, require dishonesty. It is refreshing to hear you say that you have faith and that is enough. Well done.
Thank you for being you. I appreciate your take on things.
You need to watch 'Rikki' and the story of Noah. A must watch.
1:25 - with CIA-supplied money and weapons, that's how.
I think the better question is how does a righteous and Just "God" sit back and let it happen?

Well Britt I finally had to subscribe. Your an amazing creator.
Watch the Killing Fields, wonderful film portraying one of the greatest crimes against humanity - re. Pol Pot.
You need to find th e full because he DOES go into detail and it gets more absurd by the second....but funny all the way through.
She's not even the slightest offended. 😮
Just to the Gorilla story...
The ancient Romans brought all sorts of powerful wild animals to Rome for their Circus events where they made animals fight with each other or with Christians or professional gladiators. The zoo-keepers, when they saw Gorillas the first time, couldn't believe that such big animals would be vegetarian and tried to feed them the same stuff as lions got, but the gorillas refused and would rather starve than to touch meat..
1:36...Hitler did it to at least 6,000,000 people and Stalin to about 20,000,000
The whole controversy between evolution and the Bible took me by surprise as a kid. I grew up in a Catholic grade school that taught evolution and the Bible as both being true. I remember one of my teacher telling us about starting off as amoebas and turning into humans over billions of years. Then we'd have our Bible class. The Bible was taught as true and the beginning of Genesis was treated as allegorical. It wasn't until I got to public school I discovered there was a big fight about it. That you had to believe in evolution or the Bible and that believing in evolution meant you were an atheist. I was completely shocked lol
To your question on 1:20, watch the movie The Killing Fields, and you'll know. It's brutal history.
Also you should think about engaging with you commenters, they invest a lot in you,
you should acknowledge that..
I’ve noticed you’ve only reacted to Ricky & Jimmy Carr from Britain, i don’t know if you don’t like or understand our humour but its got a varied range from down right stupid but funny too intellectual yet still funny. Try it you might like it.
I'm a Monty python fan. I was lucky that my dad passed down that love

The world is certainly chaging. In my lifetime the percentage of self identified Christians in New Zealand has dropped from the high nineties to less than fifty percent. Having said that i agree that belief, in anything, can be a great comfort and acceptance of peoples beliefs, unless they impact on other's lives is commendable as we are all at different points in our lives.
The Khmer Rouge killed way more than that
How? By being organised and invoking fear.
Dave Allen is an old Irish comic who has a funny story about going to Catholic school and the first day. The bit is called "Religion"
Its WHY not how...
Shouldnt there be a giant flaming sword somewhere in iraq keeping people from going back in the garden of eden
I'm sorry but self delusion is anything but comforting, and faith is the most dishonest view to have, to take anything on faith is just admitting you don't have an answer to the question, and you are ok with lying to yourself and others, it ok to say I don't know, if in fact you don't, but to say "I take it on faith" is just dishonest.
How? Read a book. If you can’t wrap your brain around something… Find out. It’s educational and later perhaps you could share it with others. History is really cool.
If you truly are a "tolerant" Christian of other's views, AND you appreciate Ricky Gervais' & George Carlin's comedic talents, how about letting us watch your reaction to some of Ricky's routines on religion, the Bible, etc? (I'll be quite surprised if you do*)
I mean this is like half of one..?
@@baneh1329 1/50th of one, maybe.

It's even weirder that God created light first, and then two sources of light, the Sun and the Moon. But since the Moon is only reflecting light, that tells you that whoever wrote that book had no clue about celestial objects, something that later is even clearer when the stars are supposed to fall on Earth.

With guns.
How Pol Pot did it? Easy Peasy! You start by summarily executing anybody who is not a laborer or farmer, so basically anybody with an education. Wearing glasses was an automatic bullet to the back of your head because it showed that you could read. Next, anybody and everybody who voiced any unhappiness was shipped off to a camp to be re-educated. This came down to hard labor and no food so many people starved to death. I suggest watching the movie The Killing Fields.
Love your channel. Appreciate your openness. I would say that the way Ricky is reading it has little to do with how batshit it sounds though. I mean, straight out of the book, it's pretty laughable. And as others have said, you did appear to backload this to be a little more gorilla, and a little less 'Bible'.
Harambe. Shows how different the US and Australia are, I guess.
It sounds bonkers......because it is and if it was anything other than the babble you would say so too but too much conditioning for you to say otherwise!
RIP Harambe
Christian mythology (like all mythology) is based on believing things you have no evidence for.
It’s called faith because it’s not knowledge
Know your history instead of asking ‘how’.
1:18 We (the US) killed 70,000 to 135,000 people with one bomb at Hiroshima then dropped another one 3 days later
Religion is all about making people believe in thing’s that can’t possibly be true and imposing faith in them for that same thing’s to be true😂
I find it very sad that someone would think believing in God just because it makes them feel good is a justifiable reason to believe.
It means you care more about feeling good than caring about whether what you believe is true.
Now if your belief in god had no effect on other people and how you live your life then great, knock yourself out, however, the reality is your beliefs don't exist in a vacuum, what you believe affects how you vote, how you raise your kids how you treat other people etc.
Personally, I'd rather believe in what is most likely true rather than what makes me feel good, and if you do any significant investigation into Christianity it just doesn't hold up. Not only does the entire theology not stand up to logical dissection but there isn't a single shred of evidence for any supernatural claim in or outwith the bible.
If you approach the subject with even the slightest bit of critical thinking, if at the end of it you come to the conclusion that most likely a guy was dead for 3 days then came back to life then I'm sorry you didn't appropriately apply critical thinking skills - magic is always the least likely explanation for any mystery.

Pol Pot killed about TWO MILLION people in Cambodia. Mao Ze Dong killed many more in China's "Cultural Revolution". King Kong stepped on a few New Yorkers and swatted a few planes to find his love. No comparison.
Uh Mao did not kill more. Maybe you mean stupidly caused the deaths of? Because there is a difference between bad policy and trying to kill your own people. Also, life expectancy, literacy, and population went up under Mao, nothing like that happened with the Khmer Rouge.
@Emiliano Sintarias I stand by my statement. Perhaps you would define killing as "re-education with a bullet". Mao PURGED China's population. It was not an "oops". The numbers are hard to come by, but I will not have further discussion about how ruthlessly evil Mao was. Stupidity sounds like an excuse. The goal of Mao's "Cultural Revolution" was to purge any opposition. You can say anything else in response, but you are "not entitled to your own facts".
As a young woman in America I understand that you don't get proper humo😢

Ricky's explanation of being an atheist to a Christian: "There are over 3,900 gods in the recognized religions in the World; I just don't believe in one more than you do."
I also like his idea that if we scrapped humankind and started again, eventually science would be the same but religion would be completely different.
