What an awesome way to begin this endeavor and history. Seeing as to how mics and the usage of mics were interpreted back then is such a marvelous thing to look at. Shows just how ahead of the times we were getting!
Manny you are da man and Mike you are also da man. What a collection!!!! that make up the tools of your trade. It's an honor to have you in the Academy, Manny, and be able to learn from and with you, thanks very much. Big thanks to the PLAP team as always
I'm a microphone fan too, but I just fond someone more crazier about them, I feel safe... Hahaha. Thank you Mike Bridavsky for sharing so much information about so many unknown mics. I would I have like a longer video!!!
Sick mic collection. I was hoping to see some obscure Japanese TOA RD-16 mics. Super versatile. Sound great on guitar, bass, kick, and toms. Love seeing the lomo and oktava mics. The mid-side mics sound great too. The nice thing is they maintain in mono as well as stereo, and given how many people listen on phones or Bluetooth speakers, that makes it super useful.
Love this, and this is jaw dropping. I built up my mic collection at first in garage sales in the 80's when I scraped together to get a good 4 track. I still use my AKG D190e (on snare, super close miking near shell) and EV re10 all the time (they were in a box of mics for 3 bucks. Still, this is in a very different league, jaw dropping. I have to try my dad's old 3M B-162 20 Wollensak mics probabky crappy but... they look like star trek communicators.
Love learning about all the mics!! Also, Curious, at around 6:30 in the video, what is being used as a tripod mic stand, wall rack? Great way to store mic stands!
hello! it's dead simple and cheap - just a painted 2 x 6 with $1.50 utility tool hooks (must have rubber coating). cost me about 40 bucks... back in 2008
@@RussianRecording thanks. I knew it was homemade with just a piece of lumber - I was curious about the actual “utility tool hooks”. I will look for those. 👍. It looks so practical and useful, I love it 👊
A question, please: I am considering moving from a PC to Apple Mac Studio. Since Apple does not allow upgrading RAM, where should I spend my precious studio equipment dollars? I want to future proof as much as possible. Specifically: SSD or RAM? 32 or 64GB??? Thanks!!!

I wish there were trading cards with vintage mics on them!
Now that’s a great idea!
Yeah it would be cool, thanks. Vintage amps too. Could have tech specs and names of well known songs they were used on. @@mannysmiclocker
