When an artist writes and sings a song about the grief, of losing his mother ,you can feel the pain and hurt in the song , such a beautiful yet sad song I feel !!
U2 prior to achtung baby and even the joshua tree, u2 were a very different band. I discovered them during their joshua tree period and looked backward to discover their previously released albums. There was nothing post joshua to explore so at the time it was a very different picture of the band than those today who are discovering them. For me the band was everything in their past up to the joshua tree and nothing more. It was a very different band. The music was very solemn and serious. Full of religiousity, righteous indignation and free from fluff, meglomania and self indulgence. The music was raw, stark, magical with a bit of spookiness. I think i first fell in love with them for their sense of spirituality mixed with an original rock slash punk sound. They had cool names like bono and the edge...back then it was like what? the edge bono? cool an alter identity...now its old hat back then they were breaking boundaries...while i love some of their new stuff there is something amazing about their earlier simpler less polished, less produced earlier stuff. It is primitive, raw and full of the spirit.
On that note. I thought Achtung Baby was their last great album. Joshua Tree was a masterpiece, and Aching was gravy. Their songs now are hit and miss. Sad for a band of this magnitude....
@@runawayushould Too many cut off at Achtung baby. I loved it but even more so it's very immediate successor Zooropa, a criminally underated masterpiece.
this song is excellent. people are harsh on october but it made a difference to me when i was a confused teenager. now as a confused adult it is painfully nostalgic.
It’s one of my favorites. I do discovered it as a team. Age 15. U2 have been my favorite band ever since 1983. I wish the band would play this live at every live show
One of my all time favorite songs. I get goose bumps everytime I listen to it. This song has always stood out to me for being so different from other songs. 5 thumbs up.👍👍👍👍👍
U2 is the single biggest reason i am into music as deeply as i am today. it hurts me when people rip on them cause they have meant so much to me in my life....
WOW‼️ haven't heard this song for so many many years. Gives me goosebumps for sure! It was definitely one of my absolute favorite U2 songs in the 80s and I could play it over and over again. But I had no clue that it was about Bono's mother 😲 l found that out now while reading the comments!
Those lyrics..."Won't you be back tomorrow? Can I sleep tonight? First time I heard this song within seconds I was crying...I'm crying now actually. Such a sad song. You can hear the grief in Bono's voice...this is a song that leaves me with a heavy heart every time I listen to it.
una de las mejores canciones de u2. es increible como se notaba la pasion de Bono cuando cantaba y la voz increible que tenia en ese epoca, creo que fue para mi su epoca dorada me encanto el video, me emocione :D
love the live footage. Started to remember life and concerts before cell phones........ when you could really lose yourself in the music...... gain something from it.......now its time to stop and take a picture ever 2 sec --- removing yourself completely from the experience. The world will never know this again
great vid to a great song. I remember hearing a live concert from Manchester Apollo about 82 or 83 and the emotion in Bonos voice was incredible.. there was an error during the song and he just said "don't stop me at this part of the song". Like many others who have posted I grew up with U2 as my heroes and still rate the first 3 albums as classics.
I love this song. My favorite song off the October album. So beautifully made song and one of the most underplayed song from early U2. Of course this song gets into my head days and days after listening to it along with the goose bumps.
It’s the best one on October album and one of the best songs of the band and it does not get us due credit. I wish they would play it live. I just need a bagpipe player
I write this comment now in 2022 as I know I'll someday in the inveitable future that my mother will not be here I'll see this comment again. I feel somehow that this song has always helped me with this day. To all our Mothers, with us and in spirit!
iam a great fan of u2..my little girl was singing this song when she was 5 it brought a tear too my eyes ..she knew this was one of my fav songs from october ..classic.. just qualitiy people..just love it.
This is one of U2's "hidden" gems that only true fans know. One of my favourite songs ever and the vocal is just amazing. Thanks for sharing this vid, great editing!
I scrolled through some comments, and a lot about Jesus. Yet, no one said a thing this is a song about Bono's mother. She died at her own father's funeral, this is a song about him grieving.
When bono lost his mother at his grandfathers funeral he lost it..He even went to the bedroom upstairs alone and just played like a broken hearted son losing his mother..Thats the window he lookied out while he made this song..cbono..Thanks for the words..U2 fans rule..
This song gives me the chills. I used to listen to it over and over as a teen, I really could feel the pain in his voice. The music just delivered it for to me. I love u2 and my life would not be the same without them.
One of my faouvrite songs now. Thank you for the video. Great fusion of early U2 song and concerts, especially ZOO TV, which is one of the best shows. You did work like Bono sang this song really. Thanks again.
This song really renewed my faith when I was at a low point. I find it incredible that more amazing musicians can't write music of faith, whatever faith. Put down anger or sadness to music, but to the banner of faith, and we'd have so much more to enjoy. Most 'faith' bands are lame as hell. Faith in the human spirit is well entrenched in rock. Let's not be afraid to proclaim faith in and love for our maker and saviour, whatever religion. Just make it rock.
October was just such a great record, I don't know what people were thinking to ever say it was u2's "inferior record". The songs were so pleasing and substantial. I'd immediately prefer this record over every other u2 record with the possible exception of Boy. Their early stuff WAS U2.
Utterly beautiful song-Thank you so much for putting this on here :-) Wish I could listen to all my old albums, but they're all on vinyl, along with a few singles/EPs
Wow ! Congratulations !So much timing on the video / audio . You must have put many hours on this .Thanks for visualizing this great U2 song, one of their best.
U2 were my favorite band all through the 80's into the early 90's but we sort of drifted apart:(.I saw them 1st at Elland road leeds in 87 and 3 times since.I still have the old vinal records but no player so really glad to hear this track ty:)
Very underrated song. There's a moment at the end with the slide guitar and uilleann pipes is as intense as anything they've ever done. From this album don't miss Rejoice, Fire and With a Shout in addition to Gloria of course.
listen my friends listening...u2 are perfect...this song make my happy...when im going to my work i hear that song and day is much bether...only u2 cant do this...we wait for you in coimbra portugal 2 and 3 october 2010 360 tour
Class song!! Just got all the early albums on CD. I never play my U2 records any more. So I replaced them with the CD versions. Boy, October and War are all pure class. In Boston tonight(11 March 2009) Bono said he would like to go back and re-record all the early stuff. Because they were rushed for studio time. Plus he was not happy with his fake English accent on the Boy record LOL
Kenvail, Totally agree. The whole album got dissed by the critics at the time (Bono even made the excuse of loosing a notebook of lyrics -recently recovered). For those that don't know, listen to the title track "October" and "With a Shout".
A beautiful track which shivers my Celtic spine with the use of Uilleann pipes and had the evil cow who lived with my dad let me have any input when he passed away, I'd have played this at his funeral. Better not let me choose her requiem song as I can only surmise that "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead" might not go too well.
@WafflesandWhales I still can't listen to this song, more than fifteen years after I heard it for the first time. It makes me cry my heart and eyeballs out.
The best band ever> Saw them at Red Rocks in 1983. the weather was so bad that they nearly cancelled the show. Filmed it for MTV that nite. We went to thge CU Event center the following nite with our stubs and saw the entire show. The Alarm, The Divinyls and of course U2., Saw them twice for the price of one. Again the Greatest Rock band EVER.
i feel. i missed my mother in october/07. is very difficult for me yet. Maybe forever. This song... tears in my eyes now... the mothers are Angels in our lifes....... sorry friends of utube.
love this tune! u can feel the emotion as always----it is about the death of his mother- her death left behind a house and not a home- pretty rough time for him- all infor. I read in the book U2 by U2
When an artist writes and sings a song about the grief,

Yess. Absolutely.

thesongtowoody well said. They were artists pushing boundaries. Now, they’re more performers less concerned with artistry imho
Not too many people know this U2. I've been with them from day one. Enjoy!
On that note. I thought Achtung Baby was their last great album. Joshua Tree was a masterpiece, and Aching was gravy. Their songs now are hit and miss. Sad for a band of this magnitude....

Every album from Boy to Achtung Baby was better than the previous in my opinion

I'm with you on that bro‼️👍🙏
How can you be harsh on October???
It’s one of my favorites. I do discovered it as a team. Age 15. U2 have been my favorite band ever since 1983. I wish the band would play this live at every live show
@@richardmcmillan4307 exactly! October was pretty well recieved
October is my favorite album! Of course Joshua Tree is probably the best for most people. But I love just about every song in October.
Amen
True music lovers never rip on them..... Only morons do that

😊
I had the privilege of seeing this live once, and it brought tears to my eyes. You did a great job mixing all those different "U2 eras" together.
Oh wow! I wish they would play this live at every concert too. This song brings me to tears just here in the studio version
_U2 TOP D + A MELHOR BANDA DO MUNDO 💥💥💥_
una de las mejores canciones de u2.

Still giving me the goosebumps.....great Irish rocksong!
This is the BEST song on the October album and one of U2’s best songs out of thier entire discography. So powerful, so moving.
great vid to a great song. October has been with me most of my life. I listen to it at least once a week. As good now as ever!
One of the truly GREAT songs U2 ever did. It's a shame that more people don't know about it.
This song is so great - one of my favorites and one of the first I heard of U2. Great video. Thanks.

Bono’s mother died at her own fathers funeral
If that’s true that’s incredible
The way Bono sings this song makes it sound like it hurts. I have not cried this much in a long time....

Ohhh Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry, can you please play this beautiful song at all of your live shows?? It is truly majestic
Wow, beautifully chosen and edited footage. This is a gorgeous fan video!
Thanx man! :)
the best of the best
this is sheer class from u2 my daughter sang this when she was 5 ....i made me cry.
This song makes me cry! Very emotional! Thanks and U2 the best as always!

Thank you for putting pictures to a great song. That is a song that should have gone on for another minute. I feel like Edge was just getting going.
Doesn't matter wich song is but u2 can always transmit a feeling to me!
That's why they are great

Never heard this song before and I have been listening to U2 since the beginning. It's beautiful! How can I have missed it ?
october, boy, war, unforgettable fire, joshua tree- these albums were like religious experiences to me. gorgeous music!!!
Utterly beautiful song-Thank you so much for putting this on here :-)
Wish I could listen to all my old albums, but they're all on vinyl, along with a few singles/EPs
You hit the nail right on the head! My first albums were war and the unforgettable fire.
MASTERPIECE...from great album....
The call did not come unnoticed.
LOVE

One of their best tunes (so different), U2 forever.
Wow! I REALLY like this. Never would've pictured a "Tomorrow" video with ZooTV footage, but you did a brilliant job - thanks!
this is probably the best fan made U2 video I've ever watched.
Yes, for sure Rolandinoo ! Tomorrow is real feeling from inside
I like Garage days U2. Simply music worth listening too. First three albums are the best.
Excellent video Jontelingon , Bravo well done from U2 fan of more than 25 years.

Great album. Great song. Lots of pain and truth.

@TidesWillTurn I totally agree... October is by far my fav. album too... timeless!
Just love this song. I think he sings about the loss of his mother. She died when he was a young boy. Quite emotional yeah.
This song is from their 2nd album: "October" from 1981, if I recall correctly.
I love it!
una delle migliori...da pelle d'oca!!
one of the best...goose-flesh!!!
Amazing song aiways loved it! Bonos voice is amazing it tears at ur heart when u listen 2 it!
This song is so emotional. Bono was so young, when his mother died. This song is for her...
@WafflesandWhales I still can't listen to this song, more than fifteen years after I heard it for the first time. It makes me cry my heart and eyeballs out.
one of my favorites
a very emotive sound. A great song.
hermosa recopilacion para una hermosa cancion
u2 es lo mas grande que existe!!
Man...the last couple verses.."Im gonna be there..mother!..Im gonna be there..mother!!..ooooa..hooh...gives me frikn chills everytime..
E' uno dei pezzi meno famosi degli u2, ma è in assoluto tra i più belli. da piangere
@DanielGheorghiu I am envious in a way that you feel this way about your father. I wish, truly, truly wish I could share the same sentiment.
OCTOBER. Best album they ever did. Just my opinion. Maybe it's just a personal thing. I still love this album and never tire of listening to it.
I love their music, but this is the U2 I really miss. So raw and edgy. Pardon the pun.
Agreed
Oh, bagpipes in the background.... AWESOME!!
Best band!

Great song, very very touching.
when I heard this song first time, it went deep deep in my heart.
love this tune! u can feel the emotion as always----it is about the death of his mother- her death left behind a house and not a home- pretty rough time for him- all infor. I read in the book U2 by U2
Genial video para una genial canción. Chulisimo. Gracias.
one of the very very best song of u2...
Good vid too :o)
and you just have to love this as the tempo rises
- i want want you, i really want you iiiiiiii
love it, im rediscovering U2. love this so much better than their new stuff :)
Good job on the video with a classic song
This album and the third Peter Gabriel album are the best ever produced by Steve Lillywhite - especially this song and Gabriel's "Family Snapshot."
Im gonna be there..mother
Im gonna be there..mother
Im goin down there ooooooo..hooo
this song is so wonderful, and gives me strength, and i headr it is about his father dieing, but either way, it gets my day going....
This reminds me of Kyle Servine. (6/5/63)
He went to war when that song played
and leela was crying.
Add me to the "I heard it today for the first time" club... more underrated U2! Great song.
October is a great Christian rock record.
I agree very deep song reminds me of running around in my old army jacket in the 80s trying to work life out!!!!
THE most intense U2 song by far, on the best U2 album
THE most intense U2 song by far, on the best U2 album
