This game got so much darker after you acquire the master sword. You're immediately presented with what used to be one of the happiest places in hyrule being, not only completely destroyed, but corrupted into one of the spookiest. Then, your first temple is this shit. Not scary, just eerie, creepy. But you master it, and move onto either the fire temple which has a similarly creepy environment, or the water temple, which isn't as bad but is hell to complete. You start getting used to the creepiness, you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and then BAM, shadow temple, shit your pants, run back to the temple of time and sink that fucking hell sword right back from whence it came, "I'm going back to kokiri village bitches!"
The team who put this together did a truly amazing job at world building.

The music is the equivalent of when you get lost in an ikea and there’s nobody around.

    • @jeremyaster7470
      @jeremyaster7470 4 роки тому +231

Description: SCP-3008 is a large retail unit previously owned by and branded as IKEA, a popular furniture retail chain. A person entering SCP-3008 through the main entrance and then passing out of sight of the doors will find themselves translocated to SCP-3008-1. This displacement will typically go unnoticed as no change will occur from the perspective of the victim; they will generally not become aware until they try to return to the entrance.
SCP-3008-1 is a space resembling the inside of an IKEA furniture store, extending far beyond the limits of what could physically be contained within the dimensions of the retail unit. Current measurements indicate an area of at least 10km2 with no visible external terminators detected in any direction. Inconclusive results from the use of laser rangefinders has led to the speculation that the space may be infinite.
SCP-3008-1 is inhabited by an unknown number of civilians trapped within prior to containment. Gathered data suggests they have formed a rudimentary civilisation within SCP-3008-1, including the construction of settlements and fortifications for the purpose of defending against SCP-3008-2.
SCP-3008-2 are humanoid entities that exist within SCP-3008-1. While superficially resembling humans they possess exaggerated and inconsistent bodily proportions, often described as being too short or too tall. They possess no facial features and in all observed cases wear a yellow shirt and blue trousers consistent with the IKEA employee uniform.
SCP-3008-1 has a rudimentary day-night cycle, determined by the overhead lighting within the space activating and deactivating at times consistent with the opening and closing times of the original retail store. During the "night" instances of SCP-3008-2 will become violent towards all other lifeforms within SCP-3008-1. During these bouts of violence they have been heard to vocalise phrases in English that are typically variations of "The store is now closed, please exit the building". Once "day" begins SCP-3008-2 instances immediately become passive and begin moving throughout SCP-3008-1 seemingly at random. They are unresponsive to questioning or other verbal cues in this state, though will react violently if attacked.
SCP-3008-1 is known to have one or more exits located within, though these exits do not appear to have a fixed position, making it difficult to leave SCP-3008-1 once inside. Using any other door besides the main entrance to enter the structure or breaking through the walls of the retail unit leads into the non-anomalous interior of the original store.
Since containment began 14 individuals have managed to exit SCP-3008. Following extensive debriefing all individuals have been administered amnestics and released.

Nobody will ever forget what it was like to go from child to adult Link and see what happened to the world. What a shock. Then making your way to the Kakariko graveyard to find the series favorite, the hookshot. So exciting to find it! Then making your way back to the Kokiri Forest to find what had become of it: devastating. Then, after all of that (what a rush), You step foot into this place... We were all speechless at that moment, weren't we? Unbelievable. An experience (and not JUST this sequence of events I have outlined) that will NEVER be matched ever again.

It is also considered scary because of the random stalker-ish parts like the one between 0:18-0:25, which make you feel like someone is lurking behind you without actually being visible.

I love how, along with the obvious forest theming in this temple (duh), there's this underlying theme of death that makes it slightly more haunting. The main enemies throughout the temple are Poes, literal ghosts haunting the halls, manifesting in paintings and contorting the scenery around you. The main boss is a phantom, nightmare-ish manifestation of Ganondorf.
Even some of the lesser enemies that appear still fit with this hidden death/ghost motif. Namely the Stalfos that appear halfway through when you're supposed to retrieve the Fairy Bow, which becomes even more interesting when you remember the Kokiri girl mentioning how anyone trapped in the forest for too long is doomed to become a Stalfos.
I might be over thinking the hell out of this, but it's really intriguing in my opinion,. It just adds this whole other layer to the dungeon.
Also, I can't have this song play normally in my head without it being interrupted by the fucking Wolfos howling and trying to rip me to shreds.

    • @Sellipsis
      @Sellipsis 4 роки тому +18

The more I get into D&D and contemplating the Feywild, the more I come to understand that in Link's past we were totally exposed to the fairylike and bright side of the fey. The Deku Tree, the Kokiri children, Navi, and even the seemingly playful nature of the lost woods to a certain extent.
But when you come back as Adult Link, you come to see the other side of the Fey, the forest spirits, and the absolutely haunting nature of all of it now that the Great Deku is no longer around to protect his children. You learn the Skull Kid only got that way because he was at one point a perfectly normal human child who lost his way in the woods and would never come out. The one skin and bones guy from Kakariko - as you're told - either did or would have become a Staflo if he stayed any longer, and the Kokiri girl straight up says in laughing manner "Will you become one **too**?"
Gameplay wise, OoT unfortunately does not age well, especially in combat. But the environmental storytelling told in it is brilliant at times. Though Hyrule Field is an area that was desperately lacking in practically everything.

Then last summer I was messing around in an OoT randomizer for fun and heard the Lon Lon Ranch theme from start to finish for the first time in over a decade. And right there in that moment, searching for gold skulltulas and collecting item drops, the strings came in as I was running around by the horses and I felt that maybe, maybe I had been wrong about this game.
For a few seconds that world seemed real, Malone seemed real and I empathized with her. I even got a little teary eyed. It was a beautiful moment.

I remember this one house which the rooms inside were very dark and yet, from there I had a view to this very dense garden at the back of the house with a stone way and a grassy wall almost forming a maze. I love how unique this piece of music is. Still many years after I find it slightly creepy but mostly beautiful. The way it folds into the (flute?) and gets back to the (other thing??) so smoothly wonderfully. It always feels like something else, a place or person, has been put forth to me, and I don’t know why. The forest temple itself is different from all the other temples too. The temple feels mostly abandoned, like when you’re at a church or something and no ones around but you’ve been looking from where you come from for over 20 minutes. All the other temples are outspread, and normal, not really carrying the same charm as the others, music and all. The forest temple has always been my favorite for this. If you took the time to read this entire thing I am sorry for your loss of time, unless you agree with me. If you don’t mind, I would like how you view the forest temple or some of the others. Look how this song perfectly match the temple environment, just like the water temple and spirit temple songs. The transition from child to adult is so clear, as others pointed out, the contrast between lost woods, with it's old happy song is now transformed into this creepy song. This transformation also resonates perfectly with the hero narrative of progression in challenges, like the game is telling you that, as adult, the enemy is much more dangerous.

The song always reminded me of when I was a kid and I used to go exploring forests near my house when I lived in Canada.
And the Gerudo Valley theme reminds me of whenever I cross the border to Mexico as an adult haha.
Man even in my adventurous years this game left me with memories I can apply to my daily life

i was never too creeped out by this temple, but i’ve always thought this was the best theme in ocarina. it’s beautiful but unsettling. i always loved the colors of the temple, and it looks like a weird haunted fun house, but with lots of foliage. i loved the poe sisters designs, i wish we got to learn their story. it’s genuinely one of my favorite places in this game.

This music sums up the game at this time. The happy go lucky disposition of the child Link part of the game, isn’t worth half a Deku Nut here. This new world in the future is mysterious, dangerous, unknown, but at the same time, there’s something...charming about it all. Something...instinctually stimulating there...
That is what this music means.

The Forest Temple is one of my favorite Temples in the game. This music goes right along with the atmosphere of the temple, with the green vines and vegitation that grows everywhere. And the boss fight with Phantom Ganon is the best boss that also fits in. Because it gives a feel of what the real Ganondorf battle would be like. I'm kinda sad though that it's the first temple of the game basically because I would have wanted to be a little longer. It just goes by so quickly.

I keep coming back once a year to give the whole Zelda OOT Soundtrack playlist a listen and gotta say forest temple and spirit temple have that unique and mystic aura in them. All time favourite temple. When I first got there being 10 years old that temple had a maaad impact on how intense the gameplay was....just noticed I still am in love with the forest temple... oh man.

This dungeons is the best level design ever created. The Air, the mystery music, the ruins, ghosts, first dungeon after being an adult, the feeling of "Now the real game begins", the epic (and unique) boss fight... Everything is perfectly placed... Ocarina of Time is, by far, the best game ever created.

You might be more right than you think. I can't remember if this was confirmed or I'm just imagining things, but I think the forest temple wad partially inspired by a mission from the first Thief game. It's a mansion with lots of plants and even a spiral hallway just like OOT.

This was the point where I gave up playing the first time. I had decided to play it after seeing Watchmojo name it as the best game of all time (and yes, I did unironically watch their content back then), so I tracked down an emulator on my mom's old ass laptop, because N64 wasn't exactly a common find in South Africa.
I was just really struggling to work out where to go, and so many of the rooms looked the same, so I just figured I'd come back some other time. I was maybe 15 at the time?
Anyway, I kept trying to come back and get through this temple, but kept losing interest and giving up. After a while, I kinda just forgot about it and went back to playing Pokemon on my DS.
A year or two had gone by before I found myself humming this weird piece of music. I couldn't remember where it was from, but I knew it was from a game soundtrack. I kept thinking about it, and eventually I remembered that it was from Ocarina of Time. I suddenly had this huge desire to play it again and really try to beat it. By this point, my mom's laptop was busted and I'd bought a 2DS, because it was cheaper than a 3DS. I found that Ocarina of Time 3D was on discount, and after saving for a bit, managed to get it. I played through the whole game again to try work out where that sound was, and when I finally got to the Forest Temple, I remembered exactly what had happened those years ago. I beat the whole game after that, then went back and 100% completed Hero Mode, and from there, I went and beat every Zelda game I could find. The Legend of Zelda is now my favourite video game franchise, and I think I owe it all to this track. I still come back and listen to it often. It's not even that easy of a listen, it just means a lot to me now.

What's interesting is that the Great Deku Tree track is calming which makes the dungeon feel more homely and 'natural', as it is inside a real, living tree, while this track more unsettling and makes it feel a little more 'unnatural' and out of place seeing as how it's a manmade building in the middle of the forest; not only that, but the fact that the Great Deku Tree goes underground, which creates the feeling of being connected to the Earth and reassured/safe, while the Forest Temple is higher up off the ground, which makes you feel disconnected from the Earth and 'scared/unsafe' as well as inducing a general fear of heights/falling.
I always found the Forest Temple to be generally creepy, but then I *really* thought about how unsettling it is in comparison to the Great Deku Tree.
