  • Try this delicious Instant Pot haleem recipe. Haleem is a popular South Asian stew made of meat, lentils and grains. This is typically slow-cooked for hours and the end result is a thick & smooth haleem. In this recipe, I will show you how to make the perfect Haleem using a pressure cooker and how to achieve that smooth consistency “lace” in the Haleem. Serve with naan or roti. See a list of suggested toppings below. Enjoy!
    Food Notes:
    - I used the 8 quart Instant Pot.
    - You may use a pre-packaged lentil mix most commonly shan haleem mix. The lentil ratio suggested in the video is for 2 lbs of meat. I highly recommend using the ratios listed on the back of the box. Please adjust ratios accordingly.
    - Use large chunks of meat. This contributes to the smooth velvety texture. You may use small boneless cubes but may not achieve the “lace” in you Haleem.
    - Masala Recommendations: Shaan Haleem Masala www.amazon.com...
    - Highly recommend shredding meat by hand. Use a potato masher or “ghotni” to mix the meat strands with lentils. This will give your Haleem a smooth consistency or lace. This step takes only 20 to 25 minutes and trust me.. it’s worth it.
    - If in a hurry, you can chop the chunks of meat into 1 inch cubes and blend the lentil/grain mixture together using a hand blender. Note: blending the meat with a hand blender may not give you resha or lace in the Haleem.
    - Suggested toppings:
    Fried onion
    Cilantro
    Green chilies
    Ginger (julienned)
    Lemon juice
    Chaat masala

    I just made this following it exactly. Thank you for the amazing recipe. Everytime I used to make daleem it would stick and burn at the bottom. And if I follow the Shan box instructions it would be way too spicy. This was perfect. I had smaller beef pieces so I only pressured 25 mins.

    This is a very nice recipe and showed in a very easy to understand video. I have a gluten allergy so I can't eat wheat, barley, rye etc. Do you have a ratio for the meat and lentils that do not include Gehun and Jau. Thank you.

    Just made this recipe few days ago. It turned out sooo good and it was soo easy to make and quick. I used all box masala and grains/lentil and it was still soo good. Definitely will be my go to recipe to make haleem.

      @@user-uy8kv3sm1z I would do it for atleast 30 mins not so much for the chicken just so the grains are cooked.

    Would the packet masala/daalein work with this recipe? Can you help with any adjustments that would need to be made?

    I didn't see you adding any salt ? Do we need to add salt or salt is pre mixed in haleem masala ?

    • @TheSpiceGenie
      @TheSpiceGenie  Рік тому

      That’s correct. The boxed masala already had salt in it so didn’t have to add additional. You could though adjust and add more if you like more salt. Your preference.

    • @TheSpiceGenie

      Hi Hina! I would do atleast 30- 35 mins of pressure cook with 5 mins of NPR. Chicken cooks fast but the grains need to cook as well. Hope that help! 🙂

    I have a 6 qt instant pot. Do you think I could make this using the same quantities?

    • @TheSpiceGenie
      @TheSpiceGenie  2 роки тому

      Hello Haniya! Thanks for reaching out. I used my 8 qt instant pot here. To be honest I have not tested this with my 6 qt so I cannot tell you for sure. However, I have seen people use almost similar quantities of ingredients in their 6 qt with positive outcomes. If I were to test this in my 6 qt I would just use 2 lbs of meat with 1/2 cup each of wheat, barley and channa daal. 3 tbsp of moong masoor and urad. Add water till the max line (not past it).

      Hi a a - I like to use larger cuts of meat for Haleem to get that “Lacey” consistency. For this one I used round roast cut. Enjoy!

      Instructions are perfectly fine. Maybe you need to watch a basic how to operate an instant pot video. This is isn’t a video on how to use an instant pot.
