The only thing the referee did wrong was signal a change of possession before checking with both flanks. But what he did right was correct himself and make the right call. They are human and can make mistakes, but the ref did not let his ego get in the way of fixing it and getting it right. Good job.

Why didn't the wing official keep the coaches 3 yd off the sideline, as required by NFHS rules? The official should not have been on the field-should have been behind sideline, and coaches/teams behind him. Coaches on field as many times as they were should have drawn a foul(s), also. By not flagging that at the beginning, it intensified the problem later on.

We lost a game in the last seconds, had a bad call and the other team scored when it looked like the guy ran out of bounds. Our coach wasn't pissed about that. He said it was a hard loss, but he was more upset about the mistakes we made during the whole game. We should have scored three more touchdowns, but hard to score when you fumble several times. Just saying coach was more upset with the way we played than loosing on what might have been a bad call. He kinda gave us a "well you guys did this to yourself " speech after the game.

@tim coker i’ve been the referee of one of those situations. Visiting team wasn’t able to get anything productive. They had like 4 3and outs in the first half. They were down 20 to 6 after 3 quarters. That team wound up tying the game. Recovered an unexpected onside kick and had a chance to score. Very first play, quarterback is under pressure and throws the ball backwards and the defense picks it up and runs an extra 20 yards . He was trying to get me and the other referee in the area to call an intentional grounding. The ball was at the 20 yard line and the pass ended at the 25 yard line on the short side of the field. I told him my car was final. Then proceeds to say “God dammit ref to my face.” So we added another 15 yard penalty to the end of the play plus another 15 for assistant Coach coming onto the field to complain. I wasn’t happy with the sideline because we called the sideline warning to plays into the game because they were honestly in my ear tell me who was eligible who was ineligible for the other team and I told them to back off. Head coach wasn’t happy about that. Than late in the game, the game is tied at 26 with the home team going for two. Home team did not have a field goal kicker. They ran like a jailbreak formation play. Quarterback is under pressure and throws the ball that is tipped on the release, ball is up in the air in the end zone defender attempts to catch it however it bounces off his face mask and into the hands of the center. Same assistant coach comes on to argue the play and actually makes contact with me to where he is ejected. Since the ball was tipped, that meant that anyone on the field at the time was allowed to catch it regardless of their eligibility. Coach knew the rule and actually lost the game because of that play. The next day I got an email from Coach saying that he was sorry for the way his sideline acted. He also told me that the assistant coach that was thrown out was kicked off the coaching staff which turned out to be the quarterbacks dad.

    • @scwimberly81
      @scwimberly81 4 роки тому +1

First off, the referee had no other choice but to keep calm bc he completely blew that.
      1. The head referee signaled 1st down the other way after ALREADY consulting the line judges. The umpire has no angle to know if the ball crossed the plain of the goal line from behind the LOS.
      2. If the HR already consulted both line judges, why were they then able to change their decision after the call had already been made?
      3. Referees tell you to run to them to signal timeout in a late game situation. If they had already messed up, chances are they arent looking to hear from that sideline if they dont have to.
      4. That officiating crew is lucky that didnt turn uglier because that reeked of bias or fixing. Especially because the change happened after a consultation and firm decision to begin with.

How in the world did the referees allow these coaches to come on the field to argue any call? The white hat should have consulted with the linesman before signaling a touchdown or not a touchdown. Ref did a great job of staying calm, but every coach who ran onto the field to argue a call should at least be immediately kicked out of the game and suspended by the high school association.. The coach should also be ashamed f himself for telling his team "we got screwed". Poor sportsmanship on his part.

Another life lesson from sports. Life is not always fair in fact it seldom is. learn to deal with that as disappointing as it is. Also officials are human and make mistakes. sometimes you leave the field or the court and know you blew a call but most are not reversible errors. It is a bad feeling to blow a call. it is also very frustrating as a player or coach to have a ref who is not good at it and frankly some officials are terrible but part of the game still involves respect and sportsmanship, Tell your players i know they are not calling fouls on the other team but still play your game. Do you best to take it out of the hands of the officials and work as hard as you can.

I know this game was in 2012, but the way these coaches act is still happening today. They get far to emotional during games. Hearing them yell: "I don't care" at the officials tells me they have no regard for the rules. Their presence on the field, when they know the rule is to remain on the sidelines except during a time out, is proof that they do not respect the game.
I have worked sidelines with coaches like this. This is the kind of thing that is ruining the game and running off good officials. There are three teams out there, and we all need to respect them all.

People defending the officials on here have obviously never coached a down. They made the call, the kids were virtually off the field, then they changed it. An abortion of officiating and HS officials are the worst because they aren’t held accountable. At least in college your crew can be suspended and cost you Bowl opportunities. The only thing the coach missed was that he should have called timeout....then unloaded on them and forced them to either take it or flag him. Then you make sure they never set foot on your field again.

I agree! But the thing is why would he make one call then reverse it? I would be just like those coaches and go ballistic. I hope that the PIAA suspended the crew.

Todd Hogg : maybe we would've heard why he would reverse the call of the coach wasn't throwing a hissy fit while the ref was trying to calmly give him an explanation.

Who knows but that said they still screwed up! And as an official we have to be accountable for the mistakes we make!

If they have class, why aren't they calm about it....I haven t seen one coach on the sideline controlling their bench nor controlling their fellow coaches

When you really have class, it shows in situations like this. The coaches wearing red are awful human beings and terrible role models for those kids. While there is no replay, the refs made the correct call in reversing the decision before a new play was snapped. Right call or wrong call there is NO excuse to act like this on the sideline.

I played as a DB in my senior year.I got a concussion on field from a helmet to helmet by some idiot receiver who purposely put his head into mine every play. Played as return and was good in my league so they’d shadow me. On my last play when he hit me in the head it happened in front of the ref and I was injured so bad I got carried off in a stretcher, kid nearly broke my neck and I went home with severe whiplash and a major concussion without my vision for about an hour. No call on the play, no penalty, no ejection. Nothing. The refs in high school leagues are pieces of shit.

welcome to high school football where the refs mak the game 80% of the time. Especially when your the away team. been there a hundred times.

The White Hat completely screwed everyone...so what follows now requires a HUGE EXPLANATION...and again the White Hat screws the Red Team coaches by not COMPLETELY explaining the situation...seems to me Red did a remarkable job maintaining composure... 1 Wing guy had stones to finish calling the play, finding the ball then signaled...too bad Ref already "decided" what happened

I think that wing guy should have come in harder with his touchdown call, too. The R on this crew was too quick with his call, I think, but the wing needed to come in, as I like to say, with his hair on fire with the touchdown call. My 2 cents.

Pretty sure Girard tried to appeal, don't think it worked out too well for them...

What would they be protesting? There is no evidence whatsoever to show that the kid scored or got stopped. The refs got together and changed the call. What's the big deal? I would rather a ref make a wrong call, but get together with his team of officials and discuss it to get it right. It looks like the refs did the right thing here. The red coaches however are about as disgraceful as it gets. And the head coach is just an idiot. A 105 pound idiot.
