    Gentlemen!
    I live in Denmark. I will likely never have an occasion to do business with your store. However, I watch your videos and enjoy them thouroughly. Listen to the podcast as well. Thanks for all you do.

    Both amazing guitars. After playing them in store I walked out with the 000-28 but then a few months later fell for a CEO-7 which in my opinion is the best sounding mahogany guitar that Martin makes. Incredible playing as always Cooper!

    Mahogany for me. Always felt it to be ‘honest’. Both are incredible. I ordered a 0000-18 (M-18) from Martin Custom Shop; 10-12 month build time, almost 5 months in…. So stoked!

    I’m upset you did this video. About 6 years ago I sold my 00018 after being convinced I needed rosewood. I sold the 18 , purchased the 28 and was just getting over the loss of the 18 until I saw this video. Now I’ve got to be depressed all over again.
    Seriously, thanks for the video. I have learned I’m a mahogany guy more than rosewood, although I purchased the 00016 Streetmaster recently.
    Thank you again.

      What do you think of the 000-16 streetmaster?

    • @anthonyb2334
      @anthonyb2334 2 місяці тому

      @@DomCAFC Definitely a louder guitar than my 00015sm. I think it likes a bit harder strumming. I’m a finger picker, but with a pick, this has great clarity, column and sustain of sound.
      If I’m going to be fingerpicking I prefer the mahogany.

      That’s really interesting, I bought a 000-16 streetmaster recently and still working out what I think of it.
      I’ve actually found that when I strum too hard it feels a bit strident - maybe that will improve as I adjust to it with time!
      Would love to own a 15sm at some point!

      @@DomCAFC I’ve had the 00016 for a while now and I’m still trying to decide if I like it. I’m primarily a finger picker, and my 00015sm is my favorite guitar. But there are a few songs with moderate strumming I like the 16.
      But I’m not convinced it’s a forever guitar.

      I didn't know that was a question. But I fully agree. Of the 2 I prefer the 000-28 tone, it just sounded more silky and rich.
      Currently I play a OMC16e Ovangkol, D-35 and D12-28 but had a 000M in the past as a comparison to these. I have no idea why the Ovangkol OMC16e was discontinued, maybe didn't sell well, but it is my favorite of all the Martins I have ever played. It is a very balanced tone without the typical mid-scoop. The others would go before that one.

    I went to buy a HD35, then recalled how much I was impressed by the 000-18 at another store. So I played a 000-18 and loved it. I had to try the 000-28 many times, thinking I’d like it more but for me it wasn’t even close. The 000-18 was for me. Now it was a matter of which of the 2 new 000-18’s in stock I pick. I walked out with both the HD35 and one of the 000-18. It was a great guitar day, and my wife in the car said good for you 😊

    In 2012, my favorite guitar store let me compare a 000-18 and 000-28 for an hour or so. My wife would alternately hand me one to play, blindfolded, and I walked out with the 28. The 18 just sounded muffled to both of us while the 28 rang and sounded so clear. Today, it would not be as easy to choose.

    Mahogany all day long for me. I wouldn’t say no to either but that woody warmth from mahogany just wraps you like a warm hug. Big fan of 18 style for dreadnought and OOO but I hear you Cooper on rosewood for an OM … that is one time when rosewood might just nip it. That’s what I did with a new d18. I typically buy used, worn in guitars and was getting acquainted with this semi-vintage d35 that had a neck reset and bridge re-glue-it sounded great. I then played this new d18 and it was an instant sell for me, even with the 1.75 nut width that I didn’t prefer but now used to it. I’ve still yet to own a rosewood acoustic… always gravitate back to mahogany.

  • @springertube
    @springertube 3 місяці тому

    Here's the thing, To me, in the 000s, the aesthetics of the 28 reign supreme. The sound balances out somewhat between the two, the 28 to my ear more nuanced, with the 18 having a little bit more articulation and (potentially) punch...maybe. And while a $500 delta in msrp, I think you get the sense that you're getting more what you paid for overall. It is more special. The 18 appears almost too plain--again in this body style and by comparison, and looks like it could be any number of other guitars, including Martin's "lesser" series. However, when you move to the Standard D series, the playing field is leveled a bit more "for some reason," (the 18's more basic trim less a liability) it truly does become more about sound preferences. I like my D-18 and D-28 equally well--for different reasons. As Chris I believe, but also perhaps Cooper, intimated - a cool hybrid and one I might have custom made, when my "ship comes in," is an 18, i.e. mahogany b&s, with 28 appointments, including the volute. This is essentially what Ricky Skagg's Bourgeois Country Boy (dreadnaught) is-- "a mahogany D-28." Very few nits to pick on that one.
    Edit: If you're seeing strikethroughs, that's not me. When I made a correction-edit, what I see is a lot of strikethroughs, and not even on my correction. A glitch in the YT software perhaps.
