This guy is so cool. We talked after a show 2 years ago, I'm a drummer. And he showed me parts from songs using his hands on his chest. He slowed it down to show the intricacies that are hard to understand on the records alone. Insane lesson. Insane cool guy.
I had the honor of watching this man do a drum clinic in my home town when I was a teenager.. Still one of the greatest days of my life.. Shook his hand.. Sat at his drum kit.. Fuck marriage that shit was way better.
I remember watching this video when I was 14-15... 28 now, I've been listening to metal music for half of my life, and this is still one of my favourite drum playthroughs, perfect amount of technique, incredible intensity and taste, this is the quintessential metal performance, raw.. violent... Flo is a legend
Aziel Silence I actually complimented you, idiot. Where the fuck did you get me trying to "diss" you from my comment? I meant it as "it's great that you are drumming and that it's hard to find drummer's these days". "Go hard" is just another way to say "go for gold" or "keep at it". Peace and unity.
I'd love to see another drummer fill in for him live just to hear what the reactions would be from#1 not seeing flo and#2 hearing what the session drummers thoughts were learning the material
They master their Muscle memory and tempo, you have to play a song a lot to achieve it, drummers are the masters of muscle memory, guitarrists can just learn sections more easily since they doesnt change sections as much as extreme drummers do, but still hard when it is too technical.
Yeah I've learned songs not as hard as this but definitely fast and some intricate parts and it is all practicing the songs over and over until you can just play it forever
Cybernetic organism: living tissue over a metal endoskeleton....such an awesome track and performance (as always), I could never stop admiring this guy. also, check out my recent bass cover of it: ua-cam.com/video/ewqeZ3gemvM/v-deo.html

@@brianbumstead2682 how is george killas good? try Myers from Disgorge USA or the vocalist drummer for spawn of possession and sean reinsert was taking in the poo poo then he died !!!!!!!!!so edgy
I never said Bozzio sucked, yes he is very technical, but not technical at speeds like this. Flo can do a lot more than gravity roll. If you watch his stuff only a lot slower, he is extremely technical and talented. Bottom line they are both great drummers, but dont cut down Flo because he's faster. Hes just as technical as bozzio. Unfortunately many metal haters have no respect drummers like Flo just because he plays fast. If he played slow and was in a jazz band you would probably like him.
There's a difference between being off the beat and being out of time. Being out of time shouldn't be the point of any style of music. Being off the beat is something intentional that can be controlled. When you're out of time it is accidental. Flo's playing seems in time but his tempo fluctuations are dreadful. Some parts speed up and slow down 10-20 beats per bar, and I'm not talking about planned tempo changes. It's just a matter of him being so inconsistent at time keeping.
One thing I dont get is that Ive heard him play shit live and it sounds pretty good but on the album his playing is mad sloppy and Im not just talking about a beat or falf ahead ro behind im mean like really sloppy I mean hes great live but the album like off of non so vile...dead and dripping the blasting in the intro is so off but then I saw that shit live and it fuckin amazing so yeah I just wondering...
Wow alot of snares....yeah i wouldnt be surprised if his cymbals are tuned, because with all the cymbal stuff he does it would probably blend into one terrible crash without tuning....yeah man i forgot bozzios pedals as well, they line like the whole fricken drumset, how does he not hit the wrong one....
My musical taste is broader and more eclectic than you could imagine. If anything, Flo sucks now, his best work ended a good 15 years ago. and I'm not saying that Cryptopsy's best is Flo's best, but frankly he's gotten very stale.
he's talking about around 3:40...a mute is when you grab the cymbal to stop the ringing...and there really is no point in doing that on a hi-hat cause you could close it with your feet....it may give a slightly different sound though
Jordison has absolutely nothing, except a mainstream band that gives him a chance to play simple stuff that people with no musical understanding can comprehend. well, thats not true, Jordison can play, but he cant compare to Flo Mournier

Unless you look at it from a more technical stand point. Like the drumming of George Kollias and Derek Roddy.Yes plenty of speed, but plenty of technique as well
Yeah but put both drummers on a standard three piece kit. I personally think Flo could beat the fuck out of them, but dont get me wrong Terry Bozzio isnt bad
well now. why are some people arguing about technical side of music rather than it's creativity? flo didn't help create this song just to get a workout you know?
gonna take drum classes with that beast, he lives 15 minutes from where i live. $60 per hour, but totally worth it
@utewbing I'm afraid Flo's lessons were too violent for him and he ended up being quadraplegic
LETS GO LOUIS !!!!!
I'd give $60 just to watch him while he sitting on the porch! He is living legend, man!
@@rockapartie he's in a catatonic state I'm afraid

Anything is better than marriage
Unless Cryptopsy plays at your wedding as you walk down the isle
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
10 years later come to see again this masterpiece
You goddamn right
Bout to offer it up to that kiwi drum teach Andrew rooney to react to. For some reason I just don't think anyone has brought it up

What's even more badass is he does it live just as well. And faster.
2:46...is Flo still considered human? He's a fucking beast.
Kollias and Mounier are gods. George is fast as circular saw but Flo parts is more tasty.
Agreed.
exactly George is a straight forward bullet train, Flo is a jazz drummer sped up to 400 miles MPH. just as aggressive but more interesting
Jazz drummer? Eh. I wouldn't go that far. Creative? Definitely.
ua-cam.com/video/8clk5KaEngI/v-deo.html
I'd put Trey William's from DF in that lot too
that escalated quickly lol
I hope this stays on UA-cam forever
Kollias VS Mounier Goddamn that is a hard ass decision
Kollias is very tight with the kick compared to Flo, but Flo has a very loose/flowing style to his drumming.
Tough decision indeed.
Kollias is technically better, but I would say Flo is a better compositor
Mounier's fills are just TASTY tho.
technically aspect george wins easily just because of his tight drumming, double bass and all. mounier just for the style nothing else
i believe thats a good way to put it
One of the fastest and more accurate drummers out there, respect🤘
must be the 35 cymbals he is using. No other explanation is possible.

this band "was" my favorite technical deathmetal band and now? wtf? ...
This is how I got into metal music. I was a drummer and stuff like this amazed me.
yall need to check out jamie st merat from ulcerate. I saw him at maryland deathfest and he is just about on par with flo and kolias
@Kevin Bergquist absolute agree...obviously different style bands but ulcerate is unstoppable!!!

o.O I never cease to be amazed by death metal drummers.... especially Flo....... (also vocals, and guitar work is always outstanding!!!!)
The buildup and then that brief stop before the brutality at 1:01 is just SICK.

How does he play drums like that?how does he do it
The 35 dislikes listen to Sum 41
My bird is screaming to this
He's air cooled (hence the fan)
Porra esse cara é um monstro
this guy is a beast
When Flo plays drums, I was laughing at how ridiculous his hand blasting speed/technique is.
I miss Jon Levasseur on lead axe so much, his live solos are spot on.
dude you know your playing extreme metal when your going so fast you have to do a cymbal mute on the freaking hi hat 5 stars
best drummer alive

that and the rest of the song :P
its awesome that flo could actually hit the bass drum and not use triggers to get a loud hit
Un. Fucking. Real. This guy is so damn talented...I'm a guitarist, but drummers like this inspire me so much...long may he reign...
Correction: 1 shit album does not mean the entire band sucks, especially since they have now returned to death metal.
these days :O
素晴らしい!

im going by people i know. technically not an overall average, but almost everyone i know defines moderate drinking as 3-5 drinks in 1-3 hours.
Is this Mounier? I think he just has two kicks and two high-hats, which is fairly standard for a big death metal kit. Don't quote me on that.
I think he was trying to be out of time, since that was kind of the whole point of early brutal death metal like Cryptopsy and Cannibal Corpse
you can see how much better these drummers on the list are. they're much faster and got much greater technique. watch them and you'l see.
moderate drinking in those studies is a glass of wine a day, most people define modereate drinking as 3-5 drinks spaced over time.
Hey, doesn't change the fact that Whisper Supremacy and None so Vile were amazing. I prefer to imagine that the band broke up after that.
its not that. i smoke weed and drink. but i know firsthand that its does affect your memory. (playing high or drunk that is)
I agree...Metal haters would just say death metal is just erratic banging of drums and screaming...what would they know !!!
Correction: Cryptopsy sucks NOW. None So Vile and Whisper Supremacy will always be known as amongst the best albums of the genre.
The stick control Flo has is sicker than sick. He has to have sold his soul to the devil cause this is fucking impossible
flo mounier = terminator
drums is actually a very easy instrument. guitar is alot harder. but its unbelievably hard to be that good at drums.
i can double bass and stomp my hat at the same time you just need to position your foot sideways touching both pedals
and yet pete influenced many drummers with 'blast beats' and etc.
And no, lol @ comparing Pete with Lars and Yeung.
Pete can out do a fucking drum machine, and do better blast beats than a lot of the drummers with only one bass drum.
Yet, I hear all the time on this board that Flo is not a tight musician and doesn't have the best of technique.
he can maybe be compared to guys like tim yeung, or lars ulrich but he's not better than very many.
1:01 makes me jizz my pants everytime
