Best Q3 review I’ve seen today and I saw a lot. Excellent and competent explanation of the new functions from a very practical perspective and, also important, excellent presentation and last but not least a cool and very sympathetic guy 👍🏻
I agree with others. Your review is one of the best I’ve seen. I like the mix of your Porto journey, review highlights, and your images. It was a well balanced presentation. Your videographer did a wonderful job. You’re added to my enjoyment of the Q3. Thanks.
Excellent review of the Q3! Been holding off from picking up the Q2 for so long - now I feel the wait was worth it. Looking forward to having this beauty in my hands soon :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on q3. I’m just a photophile, with R5 and rf24-70/2.8 & 70-200/2.8 and also bought rf 24-105/4 for my Europe trip for last year as the other two are so big to carry around with family. Even 24-105 felt so big to carry around. So I was looking at q3 as an all rounder for this year’s vacation. I usually use 70-200 for my kids soccer games and little bit of wild life in the backyard or near by parks etc. 24-70 for all the rest of the stuff such as family photos or personal product photography etc. my question is did you try q3 for small scale sports photography (I’m not talking about professional level of sports photography), but at least kids sports etc. I even thinking about getting rid of 24-70 & 24-105 and buy q3, keep 70200 & r5 for kids sports. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. thanks again (subscribed myself to your channel)
Hey there, thank for subscribing - appreciated! Yes, 24-70 is my fav in terms of events and overall shoot. I would go with a zoom for more specific stuff so we think alike. TBH, the Q3 ain't great for anything where you need to zoom a tad, such as sports (even on a non-professional level). That said, you can always crop afterwards on the 28mm focal length and get something acceptable I'd say. For holidays or to cary around as your daily camera it is a delight though. Hope that helps! take care
Very good and detailed review! The pictures SOOC are beautiful also. You earned a follower from this Q3 review, and I’ve seen a lot of it. Kudos! By the way, what camera bag are you using?
Thanks Anthony! Glad you liked it and happy to have a new follower I used the peak design sling 6l for the trip around the cities and the travel 30l for the plane. I am preparing a review on those specifically 😉 stay tuned
GREAT review. I sold my Q2 because it didn’t have a tilt screen. Like you, I rely on JPEGs and I edit them on my iPad mini. Your review is exactly what I needed to help me decide to buy the Q3. I’m going to Porto in thee weeks time🤣
That's a great review, Cris. Having used a Q-P since 2017, I decided to go for broke (literally) and get the Q3. At heart, the Q is a street camera. But the Q3 extends that, which is a great asset. The flip screen is a really big deal. Puddle & over the shoulder shots are now much easier. But I've noticed the Q3 often displays purple fringing - typically with bright sky behind tree branches, etc. That's not something I ever got with the Q-P. Regarding your 2 cons, JJC make a handgrip specifically for the Q3. It fits & looks really good. You can easily access the SD card & battery, and it has an Arca-Swiss compatible baseplate which comes in handy. Your 2nd con regarding backlight affecting use of the EVF is a common problem with the Q series. It's annoying, but you get used to it. I'm not aware of any suitable eyecup attachment. But the Q3 is a really worthwhile upgrade and I plan to use it for at least another 7 yrs! Sorry, I didn't mention the lens. To anyone reading this who doesn't know about it - the hype surrounding this fabulous lens is very well deserved!
What setting you were using while you took those pictures ? They look super sharp . I’m new with Leica Cameras, I just bought the Q3 43mm but I can not getting the same results as yours . What I’m I doing wrong ?
Hey there, thanks 🙏🏼 Hard to tell honestly could be a lot of settings but I’d probably close down the aperture to f4 or f5.6 (of course it depends on what you’re taking photos of). I’ll do a video soon with my usual settings - stay tuned!
Thanks so much, Chris. Great, detailed, real world review. Greatly appreciated. I’m seriously thinking of upgrading from the Q2 from what I’ve read and seen so far.
Great review! Do you think this camera could be used for some small professional work? Maybe a birthday party, portraits etc? Especially with the 60mp sensor and crop modes along with enhanced autofocus.
Thanks! I think the Q3 is a great all around camera. Now, that said, if you need this professionally I’d use an SL for the lenses. Having a 28mm professionally (at least for me) can’t and won’t cut it. I do real estate, weddings, architecture, product, food, portraits, landscape, etc. And I need to change lenses and focal length all the time. Cropping is fine, but the DOF won’t be the same if you crop a 28mm into 50mm - know that I mean? Take care
Dear Sir, Thank you for the great video. I am about to get a Q3 for night Street photography. But I am torn between the Q3 or the Q3 43. If it was only a little bit wider. Would you have chosen the Q3 43 instead if it was you? Please I would be obliged for your opinion
Hello there, thanks for the message. Honestly I think they both serve different purposes. I’d say if you need wider angles for example for landscape, street, groups, etc. Then 28 is great. For everyday life, portraits, street and overall natural field of view, I’d go with 43. I don’t have a preference but for my style of photography I’d go with a 28mm Take care
@@cris_photography Thank you so much for you reply. Even so it is not easy at all this decision. I think I will have to try both cameras to see the feel of them. Many thanks again
Great review. Very informative, covering all important features and changes from Q2, without all the "fluff" like some other influencers/snappers. Doesn't just shoot wide angle long subject distance (f64 group type images), uses the camera at closer working distance , showcasing the most important feature of this camera - differential focus. Outstanding presentation. Damir
Am a Sony a1 guy. Thinking about dumping it all, including lenses to get a q3. No question it’s gorgeous but worry about 28mm as i shoot mostly 35-70 mm. Will i go nuts. Friends say i should just put a 35 on my a1 and forget about Leica. Thoughts?
Hey there, thanks for your message. I am a Sony A7sIII user for video and that won't change any time soon. I use Fujifilm a lot and Leica as well (more and more with the SL2s). I think the A1 is a beast in its field and can provide a lot of good stuff, but when it comes to image quality and the feel of it, I go Leica personally. It is very personal and I can't tell that your Sony is as good as or different from the Q3. Cheers
Great video ! Love the q3 ! I just have one question?! How the *beep* did you manage to fit the peek lock strings to the camera ? 😅 can’t get close to get them on the camera, with out metal rings 😅🙌
Hey there, thanks. Are you referring to the peak design anchors? If so, the new anchors are way smaller that the older (original) ones and therefore you can make them fit. Otherwise use a metal ring worse case 😉
@@cris_photography thanks 😀🙌 I must have the old ones then, because there are no way they will be able to fit 😅😅 I will see if I can find a set of new ones 🤓
What is the quality of the photos compared to iPhone 14 pro max or latest Samsung? One thing that got me confused is why a crop in body of we can crop in software.
I cannot compare a cellphone (no matter how "good" it is) to a Leica Camera and full on Summilux lens. Apples and oranges. The quality of the cellphones is amazing for their size and it is a wonderful device on its own, but it isn't something I'll compare. - Regarding the in-body crop, I believe there are 2 reasons: 1) For those that are "old school" and/or that either don't have a computer to edit or that simply don't want to edit in post. 2) for you to see how another focal length would behave in a certain scenario. Lets say you want to see if you image would be good if you crop - you can see it directly with the JPEG and when you edit the files you can either crop is using the DNG file or leave it as is. - Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers
Thank u for your great work man, it's the most best review of Q3 on UA-cam! =) Maybe if its possible, u can share your camera settings to get these results of SOOCs?
Thanks a lot man! Are you from Switzerland? (based on your handle). I do all my "edits" in-camera when posting SOOC and what I normally do is I adjust the EV to make it look like I want (and otherwise let the settings in auto most of the time with a minimum shutter speed of 1/125 and max ISO 12800 and I set my aperture manually). Cheers!
As being a Fujifilm x70 user, i am in love with the Q series since it’s first iteration. But unfortunately skipped buying it every time because of the high price tag. Probably just not brave enough to spend that much money on a camera. But maybe this time. Thanks for your great review 👍
Hey there, I hear ya. Honestly not a single problem with the temp of my photos using AWB - the shots look very good. Nothing to complain about on that. Cheers
a Comprehensive and coherent overview of the Q3 ..........gave me a better understanding of the beast and an even stronger desire to order one. just wondering how long that wait will be ? Thanks also for refreshing my memories of Portugal .
Thanks a lot for the message and feedback - much appreciated! Honestly I can’t tell you how they’re doing with back orders right now, the best would be to ask the nearest Leica store. Take care ☺️
Good review, well done! But in my POV many of your photos shot in bright sunlight, are overexposed, and the AWB isn't up to its job. To crop in to a 90 mm isn't the same as shooting with a 90 mm, the DOF is missing. The tilt screen is a great novelty and very useful for those photographers, who's knees aren't the youngest any more. Would I upgrade from my Q? No, it's doing very well as a backup camera with the possibility for video and macro. For first time buyers, it's a wise choice to enter the Leica world. Keep on rolling.
Thanks Paul and absolutely 💯 The problem with having 3 days to go to a foreign country, logistics, etc. And traveling is that you don’t have all the time you want to take the shots you’d like to. Maybe a long term review would make it easier to get the shots I want. Thanks for your feedback and for watching 😉 take care
Very well done.. Thank you for your efforts... I am looking for a high quality lightweight full frame high mp travel camera and this seems to fit the bill. I had a Sony a7rIV but had to depart due to back injury and it was tough to lug around all the lenses and body's. Thank you again. I enjoy your detailed work.
Awesome review, thanks. - I’m just curious, on productions like this, who pays for the camera man, travel expenses and accommodations etc.? In other words, who is the producer and how to get one? If one wants to start a successful YT channel nowadays, it’s necessary to present perfect content or the channel has no chance according to the limitations set by YT. Despite of course it’s one of that YT own A.I. channels popping up over night having half a million subscribers and millions of views on total bs content about time travellers or big foot. Cannibalising the clicks and views the true content creators should get.
Very good points you bring here! I had to the chance to have a friend who is from Portugal and we stayed at his dad’s appartement and he brought us around (I paid for that from my own pocket). Since he shoots a bit I landed him my gear and asked to film me and voila 😊 it’s actually hard and a continuous hustle to find who and how I’ll get filmed for these videos. Very true about the clicks and making a successful YT channel. Personally I think persistence is the hardest part of it but it slowly pays off. Take care and all the best!
best review so far❤ Want to try the q3 lens stabilizer and auto focus in person (stabilizer help me handheld at lowlight condition, auto focus for object like running dogs), I am going to sell my canon r6 and lens and buy q3
That's kind of defeating the purpose of the Q, sir. Besides, the lens performs the OIS and has a leaf shutter. So You'd quickly be in the Hassy regime & price tags.
Like I said when they asked me « I’d upgrade from Q to Q2, not necessarily from Q2 to Q3 » Yes the Q2 is still a very good camera and in terms of IQ you’ll get the same lens and pretty much same results. There are upgrades but not for everyone. Cheers
Thank you Cris. I think it’s fair to say any q camera is good for people just want to join Leica family. They are pretty profound. I was happen to find a very cheap q2 and I think it’s worthy every penny.
Leica needs to offer a second Q. We have the Q3, we need a Qp, with a 50mm F2. People are the most photographed subject, and when it comes to subject separation, the wider the lens the less the separation, unless you get close, in which case wide-angle distortion warps the face of the subject. Enter the Qp, for portraits. The camera should be identical to the Q3 but with a 50mm F2
When I tried it in the shop, I could feel the corner of the non-flush flip screen digging into my palm. It felt like it would be fairly uncomfortable after a while. The Q2 screen was flush to the camera body. More comfortable, and more elegant it seemed to me. What do you think please from your experience of the Q3?
Suggestion…. Instead of using the eye level viewfinder use the flip screen. It will also change (improve?) the camera angle for many shots. Also… get the Leica hand grip which will totally alter the way you hold the camera and will require much less hold on the camera itself. Just ideas….
Hey Barry, thanks for the good suggestions and yes you can definitely do that (tilt the screen) and use the grip. Often I do think that we get a Q or an M for the compactness of the body so adding too much will add bulk. That said, confort is a very important factor too so yes, that’d be a good way to make it more confortable. Cheers
It looks like it's a really great camera but I just want to say this I think they've stolen a few ideas from Fujifilm. There's a lot of features that this camera has that the XT5 and also the XH care camera from Fujifilm have in common very interesting. It almost has some 100V features and also some XT5 features as well. I think it's getting to the point where the camera companies do copy each other a little bit and when something works they will copy that idea into the next camera. It's probably out of my budget to be able to forward this camera but it's great that they've made it for people that can afford it. I'm currently using Fuji film cameras and I dream of owning a like a camera, but I don't think it will happen.
There is no way that anyone could look at a gallery of photos taken with a Q3 or with a z5 or an M3 with HP5+ and reliably tell which was which. Try it. I have 4 Leica bodies with 11 Leica lenses, 4 Nikon bodies with 13 Nikon lenses and 3 Pentax bodies with 32 Pentax lenses...and they are all the same when viewed as pictures and not pixel peeped test shots. Shooting different stuff with different stuff is the only thing that's important if you're shooting for fun rather than money.......like me! 🙂
Hey Frank, thanks for the message! I hear you loud and clear :) I mean, you will definitely notice a diff between an M3 (film camera) and a Q3 - the files and simply not the same (looks wise). for the rest, true if you were to compare shots you wouldn't be able to tell the difference but I believe it really is the pleasure of shooting - like you said ;) Take care!
It’s not criminal when you consider the price of leica lenses, and that the specs of the body is pretty much a better built. Sony a7rc. Now if you want to say that the price of Leica lenses is criminal, maybe you’ve got a point.
Very interesting video! Thanks Cris! Just a question: you speak French, English and Italian and you live in Switzerland: are you 100% Swiss? Are you of Spanish origin? Please, answer me, as I am very curious!
Hi there, thanks for the message 😉 Yes am actually Spanish - not Swiss but I do live here in Switzerland and yes I speak Italian, French, Spanish and English 😎
@@cris_photography Wow: thanks, Cris, for your prompt reply! At the beginning I was thinking maybe Portuguese origin, but then you stated in your video that it was your first time in Portugal, therefore I thought: maybe Spanish....and then you confirmed it. Where (or how) did you learn Italian by the way, if I may ask you?
The photo’s were good, your comment was was not. If you were a grown-up person you should know that you don’t have to watch anything that you don’t like, you don’t have to get nasty.
@@cris_photography I will most likely get the Q3 when available. You made a recommendation some weeks ago to keep my FX3, but like most people didn’t and bought 2 SL2-S’s. The build quality of the SL2-S is great and 90% of what I need.I do quit a few training videos in my home office and find not having that option in the SL2-S is a bit of an inconvenience as well as the Sony mics plug right into the hot shoe. And the AF like you said is oK on the SL2-S, but not to the level of the A7R5 and FX3. I’ve considered letting go of one of the SL2-S’s and buy the A7R5 again with the 24-70 GM2. I was hoping to stay with all Leica, but AF if not 100% yet. They probably will fix this with the SL3. Thanks for your wisdom with this brand.

Hard to tell but I did like the natural profite quite a lot vs my SL2s (somewhat) cheers
Best review that I`ve seen .
Thanks Micheal - much appreciated!
This is the best review I’ve seen of the q3. I’ve watched them all. 😂
Thanks a lot Jordan! That means a lot 😉
Almost did buy it. But it’s 6000€, and living in an savoury pet of town I had second thoughts.
I hear ya! 👍🏼
Already on the waitinglist for the Q3
Cool 😎
@@cris_photography yessss I can’t wait to start creating with it
How’s the auto WB on the Q3? It’s one thing that irritates me about my Q2
Hey there, I hear ya. Honestly not a single problem with the temp of my photos using AWB - the shots look very good. Nothing to complain about on that. Cheers
Good Review!
Thanks Eric - appreciated 😉
Just got my Q3 this week! 😊
Nice!! Enjoy 😊
a Comprehensive and coherent overview of the Q3 ..........gave me a better understanding of the beast and an even stronger desire to order one.
just wondering how long that wait will be ? Thanks also for refreshing my memories of Portugal .
Thanks a lot for the message and feedback - much appreciated!
Honestly I can’t tell you how they’re doing with back orders right now, the best would be to ask the nearest Leica store. Take care ☺️
Hi there - Great video - could you tell me the brand of the wrist strap you use ?
Thanks Stephen! It’s a peak design cuff 😉
@@cris_photography Thanks very much !
I have never owned a Leica but I am sure they are very nice. Trouble is other brands are also very nice , at half the price !
Totally!
Thanks Paul and absolutely 💯
The problem with having 3 days to go to a foreign country, logistics, etc.
Thanks for your message and glad you enjoyed the video!
I think too it’d be the right choice for you based in the criterion you mention. Take care!
Thank you
You’re very welcome
Great video
Thanks!
excellent review.
Thanks Benoit!
best review so far❤
Want to try the q3 lens stabilizer and auto focus in person (stabilizer help me handheld at lowlight condition, auto focus for object like running dogs), I am going to sell my canon r6 and lens and buy q3
Thanks! Am sure you’ll love it 😉
Thanks for sharing this.
My pleasure 😉
My choice would be either white or silver ,preferably a silver and an internal memory, that would complete the package.
Nice 😊
I would love to have a Leica Q with an interchangeable lens body!
That’d be interesting indeed
That's kind of defeating the purpose of the Q, sir. Besides, the lens performs the OIS and has a leaf shutter. So You'd quickly be in the Hassy regime & price tags.
Not sure if premium is worthy between q2 and q3. Q2 is really good
Like I said when they asked me « I’d upgrade from Q to Q2, not necessarily from Q2 to Q3 »
Yes the Q2 is still a very good camera and in terms of IQ you’ll get the same lens and pretty much same results. There are upgrades but not for everyone. Cheers
Thank you Cris. I think it’s fair to say any q camera is good for people just want to join Leica family. They are pretty profound. I was happen to find a very cheap q2 and I think it’s worthy every penny.
Nice review !
Thanks!
0jusst got one Monday From Leica Lisse. None is US had one.
Nice - enjoy!!
Thanks Peter - I hear you!
@@cris_photography I am literally sending them an email right now 👍
This cam kept me comparing with fujifilm x100v ….tough choice
I most definitely hear ya! Cheers
How do you transfer the photos to the computer, lightroom classick does not recognize the camera when I use the USB cable. Thanks
Use the SD card (I only do it that way - never even tried with the cable)
@@cris_photography thanks Cris
Best dentist camera to date
Totally
When I tried it in the shop, I could feel the corner of the non-flush flip screen digging into my palm. It felt like it would be fairly uncomfortable after a while. The Q2 screen was flush to the camera body. More comfortable, and more elegant it seemed to me.
What do you think please from your experience of the Q3?
Suggestion…. Instead of using the eye level viewfinder use the flip screen. It will also change (improve?) the camera angle for many shots. Also… get the Leica hand grip which will totally alter the way you hold the camera and will require much less hold on the camera itself. Just ideas….
Hello Edward, yes I did feel that edgy grip but after a few days you get used to it and it didn’t bother me anymore.
Cheers
great comment!
Thanks 😉
Its soo expensive, please don't drop it!!! Thx for a great video!
Haha ya you don’t wanna drop it indeed!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts cheers
The Nikon Z8 has stolen Fuji’s vertical tilt screen. The previous Z models had half stolen the Horizontal tilt…🤣🤣. Fujifilm Forever!
I hear you loud and clear :)
I mean, you will definitely notice a diff between an M3 (film camera) and a Q3 - the files and simply not the same (looks wise). for the rest, true if you were to compare shots you wouldn't be able to tell the difference but I believe it really is the pleasure of shooting - like you said ;)
Take care!
They implemented 8K video which a very few videographers really need but forgot a microphone jack which most of serious videographers need. How dumb…
Hear ya 🤷🏻
8k so you can crop like crazy vertical or horizontal.
My favorite $6000 everyday camera. lol
👍🏼
Ah yes, let me just grab that $6,000 that fell between the seats of my Honda Accord and I'll run right out to grab one!
Be waiting for you at the store!
Always the same stupid jokes … boring
It is criminal to charge 6000 dollaroos for a camera without an interchangeable lens, and one that can’t record audio when shooting video.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
It’s not criminal when you consider the price of leica lenses, and that the specs of the body is pretty much a better built. Sony a7rc.
Now if you want to say that the price of Leica lenses is criminal, maybe you’ve got a point.
6000 dollar everyday camera
How bout we compare to a 15K Rolex that shows an approximate time for example? See… it’s all relative
@@cris_photography True - I'm just jealous i cant afford a camera like this. Great Video.
😉
6000€ its not a perfect camera:((( its like a ferrari but wit a kya engine...
Gotcha
Billboards are not high resolution. Never have been. Never will be.
Cool
Very interesting video! Thanks Cris!
Just a question: you speak French, English and Italian and you live in Switzerland: are you 100% Swiss? Are you of Spanish origin? Please, answer me, as I am very curious!
Hi there, thanks for the message 😉
Yes am actually Spanish - not Swiss but I do live here in Switzerland and yes I speak Italian, French, Spanish and English 😎
Never seen anyone take such bad photos with such an amazing camera. Sad. 🥹🥲
Am sure it made your day but deep down am sure you don’t feel that great. Try working on your kindness - it’ll come back to you
@@cris_photography it wasn’t an insult, it was just a fact. I’m also still learning to get better. If you don’t agree then I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️
@@cris_photography PS I watched the whole video and it’s good - I only gave my opinion about your photos.
@@cris_photographykeep it up ! Great video!
The photo’s were good, your comment was was not. If you were a grown-up person you should know that you don’t have to watch anything that you don’t like, you don’t have to get nasty.
Great Video
Thanks 🙏
