TRIP REPORT | The Best Service Over the Atlantic! | San Francisco to London | British Airways B777

- British Airways Trip Report flying from San Francisco to London onboard one of the British Airways Boeing 777-300ER on a lovely afternoon in San Francisco and a beautiful morning in the UK.
A very comfortable onboard the British Airways Boeing 777 from San Francisco to London Heathrow. The plane wasn't full so we were lucky enough to get a middle empty seat, which highly increased the comfort on this 10-hours flight.
After a beautiful review of San Francisco International Terminal, we boarded the British Airways Boeing 777 that would take us to London. We took off from runway 28R and made the initial climb over the San Francisco outskirts and the Pacific Ocean. We quickly made a right turn towards Canada.
On the first part of the flight, we found a lot of clouds as well as lots of storm clouds that we had to surround. But we were in winter, so how is it possible that we had storm clouds there? Well, you will find the explanation on the Trip Report as well! After 1 hour of flight, we enjoyed a beautiful Sunset over Montana, still over the US. From there, already in the night, we flew towards Hudson Bay, and then we entered the Nunavut region.
We flew across the Baffin Bay during the night, until we reached Greenland. From there we made a right turn that set us on direct course toward the UK. We overflew Derry and Belfast and crossed the Irish Sea towards Liverpool and Manchester. After a beautiful approach over the UK countryside, including one holding patter at a quite low altitude, we landed 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled at Heathrow airport.
Regarding the onboard service, British Airways is offering 2 warm meals on flights to the US west coast. The first one came 2h after takeoff with 2 options: chicken or pasta. The taste was pretty good; the only bad part of it was the bread, which felt like eating a stone. The second service, the breakfast, came around 1 hour before landing. It was a full warm English Breakfast with fruit. A very competitive service for a flight over the Atlantic. British Airways has clearly gone back to the pre-pandemic onboard service which really makes me really happy and clearly shows the path to follow for all the other airlines!

I always find it amazing these planes fly 10,000km, are cleaned quickly, restocked then they fly back another 10,000km. They don't even need to give the plane a rest!
In many respects it's far more impressive than a rocket that goes to moon and has to work once.....
Those engines need atleast 15hrs daily,offcourse it's amazing and wonderful,great machines
They were designed and built that way because airplanes don’t make money sitting on the ground. The faster they are turned around and back in the air the more profitable it is.
That service director should give instruction to others on how to do in cabin announcements! so professional, calming! it looks like you had a real good flight overall -- nice breakfast (2nd meal service) on this flight!
I agree. His PA's were among the best I've heard in more than 1,500 flights I've done in my life.
I need to tell you that I love the geography and meteorology commentaries! I'm always curious above which places I'm flying (or people I'm watching) and this is giving me such a joy.

I always enjoy flying BA. I'm always comforted by the calm reassuring voice announcements in the wonderful regal British accent, which us esteemed around the world. Great airline.

I flew this flight number at the end of Feb 2020 just before lockdowns...it was then operated by a B747 - what a shame that was my last ever flight on one 😥 - I also flew out on the A380. A great video and review - I love flying over the US too - the emptiness is amazing - and sunrise always special, anywhere but guaranteed sunshine above the clouds really makes it. I don't know why but I had subtitles in English and Spanish on this and it was great to learn a bit of Spanish! (Oh, and the stewardess making announcements - couldn't understand a word - and I'm a native English speaker...)
Yes - I think cabin crew should be careful to speak clearly and not too fast......no matter how many times they may have made the same announcements!

I would love to have flown on the BA B747... shame that they decirded to retire them all... I think the cabin managed PA's on this flight were perfect. I wish all cabin crew would do it that way instead of rushed ones...

I’ve taken around 300+ BA flights in the last seven years and they’ve rarely let me down. Admittedly their IT systems aren’t the best but in terms of overall service they’re pretty good.

I live a 25 minute drive from Heathrow Airport. What you are seeing are man made reservoirs, not lakes, they provide most of the clean water to Londons 10 million inhabitants.
You're the only in-flight reviewer that I know of that actually stops and enjoys the beauty of God's creation outside of the aircraft! SFO is my hometown airport and I absolutely love flying in and out of there. Before the A380s and 777s came along, the SFO-LHR route was always serviced by 747s. That was a pretty decent flight experience for you. I have seen so many negative BA reviews over the past several years, it's nice to see them get a positive review. Hopefully the trend will continue. My only flight to LHR was in 2017 on a Delta 767 from Seattle. I don't have a lot of experience with London.

I flew recently with BA twice (the A380 to SFO and this one) and I must say that both flights were great. I can't say basically anything bad about them, only positive things.
I'm looking forward to flying with them again, ideally on their A350! :D
BA are quite easily the best airline in the world at the moment. The service and staff are incredible. I always feel safe with their pilots too. Oh and their punctuality- simply WOW!

The new 777 business class cabin is such an improvement to the strange A380 business cabin I flew in a couple years ago.

Thank you for another wonderful trip SFO - LHR. Looks like a very enjoyable flight, good crew and good food. I always love the sun rising usually just off the West Coast of Ireland in Spring and Summer. When I am travelling I always watch it and take photographs. 🌎✈️😊

Sí, sí. En general todas las aerolínas están mejorando su servicio, pero sin duda BA es la que está a la cabeza.
Tengo ganas de volver a volar con KLM en largo radio, pues durante la pandemia fueron los que mantuvieron el listón más alto... veremos qué tal ahora :)

Qué bueno Lucas!! La verdad es que BA no defrauda, yo he cruzado el atlántico con ellos varias veces, y salvo en el 787, que se ve un pelín desactualizado para mi gusto, siempre he ido muy bien… Es mas, en diciembre volé de Vancouver a Heathrow en turista premium del 35K y me quedé enamorado!!!
La verdad es que sí. Ellos fueron los primeros en recuperar la segunda comida caliente tras la pandemia y ellos han sido los primeros en mejorarla también. Me encanta lo antentos que son los cabin crew en BA con los PA. :)

I've flown BA numerous times since 2011 in World Traveller, Word Traveller Plus and Club World cabins. Last flew with them in August and September 2023. Never really had a bad experience. Cabin crew have always been kind and enthusiastic and happy to share a joke, the food always delicious and filling.
On a flight from Miami to Heathrow, I boarded the 747 to find my seat was covered top to bottom in Chocolate. The purser came over when called and said "Oh dear, that's filthy, let me see what we can do", and off he went. Sadly the flight was completely full. He tried to find an empty seat in First Class for me, but they were all occupied. As was Club World. He offered to put a blanket over the seat. I said we can try that. Turned out to make the seat even MORE comfortable than on my previous flight. I accepted this quick thinking solution and settled in. The purser came back just as boarding was finishing and checked to see I was ok. I confirmed I was fine and happy. He smiled and said "I think a little make-up service is required tonight!" and so, I got pretty much double portions of anything I wanted. I have never been so overstuffed with food and a plane before or since!
That was very nice from their side. Motivated crews can really change your experience with very little details, that many times are not an extra cost for the airline. Just how the crew speaks and treats the passengers can change completely your perception about the airline.

El año pasado viajé en un Boeing 777-300ER desde Singapur a Manila a través de Philippine Airlines. Satisfecho con el asiento, pero es viejo al igual que el IFE. Espero que pronto puedas hacer un informe de viaje con Philippine Airlines.

Well, sometimes the screen has the day/night function and tells you more or less where is day and where is night in the world.
Otherwise, by chcecking at what time is the sunrise at some point that you are going to overfly and then estimating when your' gonna be flying over there... :)

I agree. The PA's were extremely clear. Perfect for everyone.
I always fly BA, and don't have any issues with the service at all. I have never had a problem and certainly don't set out looking for issues like some people do. I often find when people complain about BA, they have little experience of other airlines and whilst I am not saying that BA never gets it wrong, even on occasion when something has happened in the past, it has been dealt with well. I find the onboard product good, the aircraft relatively comfortable and in general the crew in the main very good. One or two over the years have been a little surly, but so have crew on AA, United, Virgin and others... I will carry on flying BA without issue. Great review!

Yeah, that's always my approach when flying new airlines... try to enjoy as much as possible and only really point bad aspects if they really annoy or give me a bad experience.
Talking about BA, I only had good experineces with them, both in long and short haul. That's all I can say :)

i wish i could sleep on flights. but even the slightest bump wakes me up. so i make sure all my long haul flights are 8 hrs or less. i really would love to fly international from SFO. one of my favorite airports. but almost everyone who flies from SFO has no personal air vents and i need that as i am hot blooded. then there is the 8 hr rule so it all but eliminate any chance of me flying international from SFO. LOL. great report as usual.

Can you help me? I have several questions. I am a frequent British Airways traveler in economy class, but I have decided that for this trip I will take a one-way trip in economy class and for the return trip in business class. My question is for the return, the check-in area will be in the club europe zone? And as for the luggage, it tells me that I can carry 2 suitcases of 32kg, can I carry a suitcase of 64kg? And the last question, will I have access to the VIP area at both airports (I have a stopover at Heathrow)?
me puedes ayudar tengo varias dudas soy un viajero frecuente de british airways en clase económica pero he decidido que para este viaje haga un viaje de ida en clase económica y para la vuelta en clase business, mi pregunta es para la vuelta la zona de facturación será en la zona club europe? y en cuanto al equipaje me dice que puedo llevar 2 maletas de 32kg puedo llevar una maleta de 64kg? y la última pregunta tendré acceso a la zona VIP en ambos aeropuertos( hago escala en Heatrow)?
