Love this movie. Read an article the other day about how it deserves an update, at the very least. You're off to an excellent start on it. Keep it up, it's gorgeous.
and this is why I serious think in this age of reboots the last star fighter would be awesome. and this is just fan based reimagining. just think what you could do with a hollywood style budge and CGI? and centauri would say "your gonna love it...love it!!!"
For a WIP this is good. I am a big fan of this movie, and still think it holds up. The overall lighting and planet needs work, but I guess you already know that. :) Here are some things I would recommend to improve, or like what you have done (so don't remove it): 0:30 - The reflection from the engine thrust looks great, as well as the ship going to full afterburner four seconds later. 0:36 - The engine exhaust looks great. 0:39 - Needs more enemy lasers. 0:47 - Concussions waves look good. 0:53 - The missiles should criss cross like in the original. If they are doing it in your version, then I didn't see it. And if possible... do the Death Blossom! :D
Sacrilege! Part of the charm of these old movies are the original effects, whether practical, models and yes even the early CGI. You take those out and redo them, you're taking away some of the spirit and magic of those films. Not to mention all the hard work of the effects crews, artists, modellers, programmers. Would you repaint the Mona Lisa? Tear down and rebuild the Statue of Liberty? No. The real goal of movie makers should be making the film's that come after better and telling new stories. Learning from the mistakes and improve on what worked. SF studios in the 70's and 80's were pushing what was possible with sometimes limited resources and budgets. They inspired the current generation of SF artists by showing what was possible and daring them to think bigger. I'm excited to see what the sequel, if it still happens, will look like. And fan edits and remakes are great. Really shows what is possible now. Sorry if that sounded like a rant. It's something I'm quite passionate about. I love the SF and fantasy movies of this era.
@@ste309w I 100% agree with you. Everything from the sets, lighting, cinematography, editing, soundtrack and yes special effects all add up to create the unique and preserved atmosphere of the individual film. If you interfere then that atmosphere is lost. Just take a look at the glossy CGI added to Star Wars ( original trilogy ). It detracts rather than adds. Another example is the alternate soundtrack to Drive. Perhaps have an option where they can be turned on or off like on a DVD menu if needs must. I also worry about censorship. Attitudes and tolerances change but I fear a lot of films with end up being edited or cut ( especially shown on TV ). Same will happen with certain TV series despite being shown after 10pm in the evening. Finally another thing that desperately needs addressing is image quality. Transition from VHS to DVD was great. But with modern LCD screens older films are not being shown properly. Hopefully screen technology improves
@@ste309w Games are also considered pieces of art, like movies, and they remaster games all the time, movies also get remastered, the creators didnt make the movie like that becouse it was their vision, a lot of the time they were limited by the tecnologie of their time, we can see it when people like George Lucas have the oportunity to fix their work. I think that changing someone else work can be disrespectfull, but if the creators thenselves want to redo parts of it, I see no problem.
@@felipeaugustobatista6444 lol, clown comment justifying the validity of going back and "fixing" old films... why stop at Star Wars? let's "fix" every film ever made with "new technology" instead of just letting it live on the merits of its time period lol
@@musiconly7447 The DVDs/VHS with the original films still exist to be seen by anyone wanting the original experience, some people even preserve projecting equipment from that time for an even more authentic view, so I see no problem in updated new copies that use what newer tech can offer. And for that little stab, I just used StarWars as an exemple of film from a director that likes to update his work, IMO any director should be free to do it if he wants, no matter the type of film he does, and the audience is free to decide what is the better version, the original or the new "directors cut".
Need to dim the starfield more, but well done. I'd love to see this whole movie redone like ST-TOS. Just leave Catherine Mary Stewart (Maggs) exactly as is.
Are you planning to redo all the cgi in the movie? It would be great to have an updated movie with the cgi redone. Leave everything else the same however please.
This is wonderful! The only thing that seemed off was how slow the lasers sound and moved, much slower than the original. They should be ripping across the screen! Otherwise, 👏
Bring this back. People need one off those inspirational stories of an impossible fight against unimaginable odds

So far so good. The Last Starfighter is one of my favorite moves, so I'll have to keep an eye out as you update this.

God I would love to see this classic movie redone with modern high quality CGI.
I love this and I'm honestly surprised no nostalgic fundamentalist spewed their unjustified hate on your work just because you improved the original.
Yes! Please come back to this and redo the CGI from this movie. Keep all the live action scenes, though. :)
i applaud you for doing something no one else is doing but frankly UR5 is capable of a heck of a lot better but thanks for sharing none the less.
If a sequel is made, they need this style. It doesn't seem to alienate the original, but gave it a more modern style.
Very nicely done, this is really impressive. I would love to see a full version of that last battle scene including the death blossom part.
NO WAY THIS IS SOO DAMN COOL! I love this movie so please come back to the project!
This is amazing I saw the movie as a kid it’s awesome
thats a great start, now show us Death Blossom

Was watching this last night, my god the cg is great in this video!
Brilliant I was only talking about this with a friend the other day. Keeping the film as is but redoing all the cgi bits.

Nice, and still retained some of its videogame origins.
Massive thank you for this !
Nicely done!!!
Well done mate, looks cracking!!
We have come a long way when you dont need a big ass filmstudio to make a film but just a lot of time. I like the 21 centuary
Great Job!! Luv'd it!!
Wish they would actually do this and sell it with two options original or modern graphic sequences

The last Starfighter should be made into a streaming show
Looks fantastic as a game tease/trailer! The film doesn't need fixing =P
This is incredible!

The graphics and lighting are amazing, but you need to keep an eye on your camera work. Very static, which isn’t good.
Cool
This is amazing
If you have seen the original it is not
Fuck yes!
Nice kid, we could use you.
Bra-fucking-vo!
Yes.. The is nothing bad about the story.. Just update the CGI parts..
CGI could be much better with Unreal imho. It is not the software it is the lighting design setup
Danngggg
Interesting but the film is better
Animation looks nice but lighting is not very good. Hope you had fun anyways!
Yeah it is a working progress [WIP] so nothing was final with it
I would love to see this, your special effects put into the movie.

Keep imagining; original still better.
poorly lit
wow this looks terrible, leave the vfx to the pros... this is not it
