Mate, your fucking on the money every time❤..il never forget seeing you float above me on a tiger in 2004....keep camping camper.X
Don’t kill me for saying this but I accidentally came upon Justin Hawkins rides again. I never really listened to the darkness. But I love this guy, I love his opinions, he is so intelligent and so musically gifted playing and analyzing other artists. Funny as hell too. Love him!
same mate. he's got what gives Brit comedy the edge.....uhh.... as a Yank I don't have the vocabulary to fully extrapolate upon that assertion,, but you probably know what i mean. Self effacing humor, other effacing humor, but without meaness. Wordly, intelligent,
not afraid to mix metaphors and call out mediocrity or genius if it'll get a laugh. And, he appears to truly love music, and appreciate and honor the craftsmanship/and or inspiration that the writing of a GOOD pop song needs.
He such s quick ear for chords and melodies, and rhythms, not on the wonky Univac encyclopedic level of Beato, but
"for a rock guy" he knows exactly why chord choices and progression work.... or don't. Highly analytical mind, applied often to the daunting task "writing something good new and accessible"
" the bleeding over of the major 3rd through the chord change from major 1 to minor i which gives it the tasty dissonance." (sic)
or something like that. He has a way better ear than this jazz guy,, that being me.
Me too. Never listened to them, I only know the big singles from twenty years ago, but I love this channel. I’ve been binging for the last week.
You should give it a listen. It grows on you quick.
I found him in a corey feldman rabbit hole and have been watching since...
*I love how they kept with the theme of 5 syllables for their album names*
- Can we please have fun
- When You See Yourself
- WALLS (we are like love songs)
- Mechanical Bull
- Come Around Sundown
- Only By the Night
- Because of the Times
- Aha Shake Heartbreak
- Youth & Young Manhood
I had never realized that!! 🤯
I wasn't aware of what WALLS stands for!
Since WALLS I’ve been feeling it a bit unnatural, but yeah, I love that too
5 words
@@ryanhenry21half of them don’t have 5 words donkey
In my opinion....it s a killer track....
Great bass line....
KOL Are one of most underrated bands in the world.
By who ?
They got that groove back.
completely agree my friend
Underrated? That term is overrated these days. KOL is a world known band... "Use Somebody" was a smash hit all over the world for instance and they had many of that over the course of their band existence.
Very very underrated
Love their bass lines. Not complicated, but always catchy. I taught myself to play bass by copying their older stuff.
Caleb has a one-of-a-kind, raspy, crispy voice, tonnes of soul... Kinda reminds me of John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival
Posted the comment 50 seconds in and then you said John Fogerty 🤣🤣🤟
If you love his voice you have to check out J. Roddy and the Business
Sounds like Kings of Leon early albums.
Youth and Young Manhood their 1st was just so good. His voice on that album was tip top.❤
Joe’s Head 🥰
I always preferred Because of the Times. Thats when they really found their sound.
@@Hero_Of_Oldugh, that’s when they started to lose it.
I love the little clap that they included after the chorus. It’s subtle but really adds a lot
Caleb is an unbelievable singer/songwriter. They are an exceptional band. All quality musicians
Love that 'the Hoff' is watching on in the background...😆
Kings of Leon grows on you slowly but steadily!! Way to go Followills 🚀🎵
KoL's back catalogue is absurd, regardless of Sex On Fire and Use Somebody, i actually think Come Around Sundown is their best work over their early stuff. I love this band dearly and it's always a pleasure to hear someone else speak about them
Mechanical Bull imo is prime KoL other then come around sundown or only by the night
No doubt.
Absurd meaning brutal genius. Those first 3 albums were GOLD
It is so cool to me when you start to break down vocals on a "feel" level. Now, I am no vocalist by any stretch, but I can appreciate some of the analogies that are used to explain them. Like, with Caleb, he has this very 'round' sound with his voice as it exits his throat and through the roof of his mouth; however he can open up and push through a more open, slightly raspier tone. Then I think of the likes of Eddy Vedder, who 'feels' like the sound mostly hits the roof of his mouth and shoots downward, but when he opens up has a fuller output.
IDK, it is like playing vocal billiards to a certain extent, and is truly fascinating to me.
Loving this... brilliant band Kings Of Leon. On Call my fave song of them.👍🏻👍🏻
I love this band-especially his voice!Awesome rock band.
may have to buy tickets to come see jhra again as it was great in the practice shows !
My 5yo daughter is singing along the intro every time..at least she's trying 😆
I love kings of leon, and this song is really good!
Jared's bass carried the whole song. I was craving for more guitars but it's fine. It harkens back to their earlier works from their standout album 'Because of the Times'. 'My Party' and ' Black Thumbnail' to be exact. Honestly, not as gritty but gotta appreciate the change in sound.
That was them at their peak imo.
The formula for a good KOL song IMO. Jared is a fantastic bassist, he just gets it
Have you seen My Party live at Hammersmith on UA-cam. It’s absolutely incredible
@@jamesirwin2552That whole set is amazing.
I adore KoL. I've seen them live a few times and they have always been fantastic.
I remember back in the day KOL called The Darkness a novelty band in an interview 😮 think it was on MtV or something
Just got my tickets to see them in LA, cant wait for the album
I’m excited for this album.
My favorite Band!❤
They are Amazing. I love them!♥️♥️
stoked you covered this. been my favorite band for decades and wanted to know what you thought as they obviously found crazy stardom in the UK around the same time you did. cheers.
This channel is incredible. Justin Hawkins and The Darkness were always so underrated I'm glad with this channel he's getting the attention he deserves! Rock on!
He shot for the stars, and now he lives on the moon. Success found a worthy person in Justin.
OH MY GOD I’ve been watching this guy just as a UA-cam channel and you just blew my mind that its the lead singer of the Darkness
Absolutely fantastic track I’m excited.
Wow just litterally saw a live cut of this on Jimmy Fallon lol, first heard kings of Leon red morning light on a fifa game, saw them at big day out with two albums under thier belt. Loved them since. I put together a personalised best of and it is a banger. Looking forward to the album. Great vid Justin. Thanks for the top content.
Sounds great. I love it💯
"It't like a boy band, but with guitars." that dry delivery was fantastic and i love it!!
Motley Crue?
I do wonder if said band ever came to fruition and if so, who it is.
Love the first 3 albums. For me, when I listen to them it's like listening to creedence Clearwater revival. A warm, earthy, comfortable blanket I don't want to take off 🤠
Their first two albums are what they need to go back to.
We’ll see may 10th.
Drunk Mums - New Australia
Yeah, in every profession.. Moving backwards is always what's needed 😂
Roombas are great. Cats like to ride on them. The only problem with Roombas is when the dog poops on the floor, the Roomba will happily nudge the turds along with it, smearing the mess alllll over. Yuck-o! I like Kings of Leon, I'm glad they're back. I like the vocal flips Caleb does...it's the first step in learning how to yodel. My mom was Dutch/German and she could yodel like a champ. So could I, LOL! We used to yodel Queen songs. I miss that woman!
Your Roomba comment!!! 💩😷😱 😂😂😂😂 I wouldn't liike to witness something like that😅
For the yodel one...❤😊
@rum The Roomba. I inherited my sister's elderly American Bullmastiff when she passed away last October. I hadn't had a dog in more than 20 years, so I forgot all about accidents. El Doggo has great house manners, but she had an accident one night, the night the Roomba was allowed out to frolic. Oh boy. Wall to wall poop in the kitchen. Ack!
@@aprilkurtz1589 Sorry for your loss...🫂❤
Happened twice with my cat. Nightmare.
@ei Hasn't happened with cat stuff yet. My cats have enough courtesy to vomit or poop on the rug in a room where Roomba doesn't go. Ha ha! So far, Roomba seems to handle cat accidents better than dog ones. But the cats have good house manners too, so litterbox accidents are few. It's the throwing up that can get gross! Jezzabelle has only had the one accident, thank jah!
Great song! Something about his voice reminds me Phil Lynott’s (Thin Lizzy) voice.
KoL were extremely into Thin Lizzy growing up and regularly cite them as one of their favorite bands. You can definitely hear the parallels in the vocals and even the instrumentation on earlier albums.
@@TheChance1991 Didn’t know that. Honestly don’t know much about KOL so it’s pretty cool that I was able to hear that influence in Jared’s voice as they are definitely not blatantly copying Thin Litzy’s style/sound.
@@rknrlgrl6146 You should check out their documentary "Talihina Sky", its full of great back story about their upbringing and the early days of their career. Highly recommended!
First 3 KOL albums are a lock for my all time greats 😊.... But I'm loving everything from their last couple albums
David Hasselhoff in the background… love it! Somehow cool 😂
I have always loved Caleb's voice. This song slaps. It is a fun tune to listen to.
The 'Cranberries-y' thing comes from the ancient form of Irish singing called 'keening' which is where Dolores derived it from
There new tune has an El Camino Black Keys vibe love it ngl.
IM SO HAPPY YOU SOLD OUT YOUR SOLO SHOWS
I love his voice
I’ve always thought of Caleb Followill’s vocal as broken bottles and honey.
This guy is a fan of himself. Love kings of leon
Justin, I think you should examine Muireann Bradley (from Ireland) - her version of When the Levee Breaks - the old blues version, not the Zep version. Could you examine her guitar playing and vocal style? Please?
Great tune, new album should be fun
Justin, from a vocal perspective it would it would be interesting to draw some attention to Nathan’s backing vocals as a drummer. Amazing voice as well. In my opinion one of the best drumming vocalists. So good live.
Has a Lou Reed sound to it
It’s very Lou Reed in the 80s to me
MrH, you made this song seem much more interesting than it actually is.
That's an art ⭐️
If you’re not familiar with Kid Harpoon, check out his song Stealing Cars - such a beautiful song.
The kings are back baby
Justin!!! Band rec time! Not that you read these comments! The Mysterines!! Up-and-coming rock band from Liverpool whose singer has one of the most interesting voices I've heard in a while. Also Screaming Females who sadly announced recently they're breaking up -- you'd love them. Singer/guitar player Marissa Paternoster shreds like a GODDESS
Yes! The Mysterines are one of my favourite bands.
Dude your band is extraordinary
Great production
Great song , amazing band
The Hoff is looking menacing today.
Indeed. Looming.
That thing is creepy . . .
Personally I love the song and think that this album is back on their way to Aha Shake-Only by the Night era
That little tune he “sings” after the first chorus 🔥 maaan
Justin Hawkins has 525k subs. Its a new world! Congrats Justin.
What about the 10,000 others?
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgainI’m gonna go with typo haha.
Sounds like old school KOL
I was obsessed with KOL when there first album came out. I really liked them up until only by the night.
I love Kings of Leon!
I was alarmed by Hasselhoff in the background! How long has he been standing there?
Months, but Justin moves him.
Hasselhoff is lurking behind us all!
It may be linear, and do what we expect it to; but it’s still a banger for a roadtrip … preferably in a Mustang! 🏎️
Great review....What headphones are they please? They look cool.
Pioneer dj hdj x10
@@kevinmccarthy8529 Thanks ever so much
04:55 🤣🤣🤣
05:13 here it sounds like if somebody had a problem with the zipper 😅😂
One of my fav songs of them is Molly's Chambers, this new one...I don't know, maybe I should listen to it again🤔
Do you like the acoustic version? Mollys Hangover - so good
@@yenohtnA I didn't know about it! thanks! it's nice too👍
its always good mate
Their first few albums were really good and then, a little tired…
This reminds of those earlier albums
Mechanical Bull is a hidden gem
Come to 🇨🇦!!
Hey Justin! How does one get a copy of your documentary here in the USA? Many thanks!
Hi! I’m in the US and had the same question! I bought the documentary on Amazon UK, and I also had to get a multi-region dvd player to view it. Hope this helps! 😊
Following…
I bought UK BluRay also. Picked up a Region Free BR player a few years ago. Admittedly, I don’t use it much anymore, but I was damn glad I still had it when WTTD came out. It is truly wonderful.
It’s awesome! Woo #kol! Hi Justin you grooovy man you!❤
I love the analysis... but please let the song play a bit...
Cheers for providing the soundtrack to my 3rd year at uni Jus' - 2003 I think it was, wasn't it? I believe in a thing called love n all that?? TOUCHIN YOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, TOUCHIN MEEHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Listening to 'Mantaray' Siouxsie Sioux's solo album -- and my girlfriend just shouted down from upstairs for me to "Turn that up!". Life is sweet when you find the right girl. :0)
🙂👍
Yeah, congrats, that’s a great sign🥸
Siouxsie’s one of my GOATs! I’ve been listening to Nocturne lately since it’s getting a RSD release in April. Today I was listening to Join Hands & Kaleidoscope.
@@sah-win Ooh! I've been looking for a mint vinyl copy of Nocturne! My original dissapeared at a party in London some years ago. Thanks for the heads-up on that RSD release. I wonder if they'll have it in black? :0)
Kaleidoscope is fantastic! The half-speed is worth getting! :0)
@@williamr3840 lost records: I know all too well also🥸
I think the RSD Nocturne is black vinyl. Only the UK one has a pic so far and it shows black. US pic is only the cover. They’re both listed as half-speed as well.
Because Of The Times and Only By The Night are god tier Albums
Anyone that thinks Sex on Fire is the real Kings of Leon is not a true fan.
Check out the fabulous courettes 👍
I really like this song. I heard Chris Moyles liken it to Wet Leg which seems a little lazy and ironic. To me it sounds more like Cake meets The Presidents of the United States of America
Hi Justin, you've got any thoughts on Dope Lemon? Angus Stone is so groovy!
Agreed!
You should watch "It's easy" by Olivia O.
hell yeah it is
KOL is an all time great band. Legends. Seen them 3 times live and some of the best performances I’ve seen.
A bit Peter Gabriel-esque on the slight yodelish vocals.
This is how Caleb used to sing back in their early days
Gabriel's yodel is sexy though ☺️
Sounds like The Strokes meet British rock!
What do I think about it? I’m gettin big and strong just thinkin about it.
love ya jussy but I think you are confusing a harpoon with a net
Love KOL early years the most. #fourkicks
I sit this one out and wait for the next one.
I wasn't a big fan of their last album (it had a few good songs) but this sounds like a return to form.
It was a bit weak compared to their other records
Did you build the boy band with guitars, if so, who are they?
Finally - real organic sounding fucking drums on a recording post 2020.
Just listen to any music that isnt close to charting. Plenty of bandss
Yea the editing shxt has gotten completely outta hand!
2010's and 2020's = Overproduced
Just say you don’t listen to much music…
@@Taylor_King To be fair, there's nothing wrong with just admiting 2010's and 2020's Laptop Music is not good...
Tbh, they let out every single trace of real human touch...
Digitally generated drums, beat corrected, auto-tune vocals... etc.
It sounds lifeless...
Obviously, they're overproducing the music and that provoked a lame 'coockie cut copy' soulless atmosphere...
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
🤘🏻
I've said that he sounds similar to John Fogerty since 2006
I love it
I don’t know KOL at all. This seems ok. The most exciting part for me was seeing Winnie The Pooh in the park scenes 🥸
Little Simz*, PJ Harvey, Gary Clark Jr & The Black Crowes all have new songs out recently. And Sophie Lloyd has a new one with Chris Robertson from BlackStoneCherry; nothing ground breaking, just solid, satisfying, guitar rock with a blazing solo. How’s about checking those out?
*I know it’s not rock, but you covered her before and seemed to enjoy it. It’s one of her more experimental-type “Drop” EPs. Even if you don’t do it for the channel, it’s worth checking out as it’s fantastic!
I dig it
KOL = Legends, Fantastic new Single 10/10
@justinhawkinsridesagain it sounds like you are a fan, I’m just wondering what is your favourite song by @kingsofleon. I love the band as a whole but I think what makes them great is Caleb’s tone, for that reason my favourite song is Supersoaker. Anyone Weiss would have to force that sound but it’s natural to him.
Hey Justin. Kid Harpoon is Tom Hull. He's my lovely niece's gorgeous husband.
That bassline reminds me of the Because of the Times era. Lyrically, a bit shite. Musically decent. Definitely be checking out the album anyway
I like everyone really want to hear KOL get back to the sound of their first 3 albums but like you said, that was a looooong time ago! I do think their last album was fantastic, nearly every track is good and a few great.... It's a more mature KOL .... When what people are craving is for them to be 20 years old again so we can relive our youth 😊
