I used to know Skeletonwitch for their sound that merges black and thrash. This song incorporates also prog elements, definitely awesome!
I miss those thrash elements though. Can't really get into this new sound

I'm blown away that these guys are American. They have a very European metal style to them. Don't hear many American bands that sound so epic.

Some of you were not paying attention to SW's last EP. They were already well under way down the black metal path (especially on "Red Death, White Light"), and this song shows that continued progression. This track is brilliant, and I can't wait to hear the whole album.
Darth Grimby I LOVED the apothic gloom. Red Death, White Light is one of my favorite Witch tracks still. This is definitely building off of that EP.

Well, they were Blackened Thrash from their very first record. It's nothing new. (I'm not talking about Beyond the Permafrost, the very first album: At One with the Shadows.)
I had no idea dude from Wolvhammer was on vocals now. I think this shit is great, but I'm a huge Wolvhammer fan so I can see how die hard Skeletonwitch fans might take awhile to come around. It has a way more serious and darker feel than their previous records.
Ridgeway Jones check out The Apothic Gloom Ep that Adam first did with the band in 2016. A great blend of their classic sound with some of this new direction. I'm stoked for the new album.

This gives me hope for the new album. Progressive from their old sound, but full of depth and ambience. Anxious to hear the rest of what they have to offer with this album.

PSALM 119:105 i guess they are not trying to imitate black metal sound or any other sound... they're just growing as musicians and making their own sound... using melodic and modern metal elements... even since their first album you can hear the modern elements and they've always been open minded musicians and an amazing band... i know this album is gonna be awesome even if there are "trves" that doesn't like how the music evolves

I am so excited for the new album. Just saw these guys live and their musicianship is flawless.
First a Rivers of Nihil album with saxophone, now a progressive black metal Witch. Man, 2018 is weird. If Pig Destroyer puts out a funeral doom album, I wouldn't be shocked at this point. That said, this song isn't bad, it's just not the riff-driven blackened thrash I associate with Skeletonwitch.
I think Pig Destroyer already did: Natasha and Mass and Volume are both Pig Destroyer doing doom
Definitely doomy/sludgey in an Inter Arma kind of way. But far from funeral doom.

Their best song in many years, maybe ever imo, and I’ve been a fan for a loooong time. This is a lesson to other bands in how to reinvent your sound to keep things fresh without losing the soul or the quality.

Saw these guys with The Red Chord and Job for a Cowboy. Amazing show.
Talented group of individuals. Got to meet them after the Phoenix show, such nice dudes too. That solo is perfect. It has a Pink Floyd feel to it. So many good riffs. Bass line is also solid as always. Can't wait for the whole album to come out. Need to see them live again and again. They definitely have become my favorite band.
IT RIPS. Can't wait for July. Some of the most talented dudes in music today. The guitar tones are fucking awesome. So stoked to have a Kurt Ballou produced Skeletonwitch album.

This is definitely not Skeletonwitch of old. Based off of this sound, I almost think they should've changed their name. Skeletonwitch was blackened thrash. This is straight up progressive black metal.
That being said, this is FANTASTIC. Holy shit this is amazing. I wasn't sold on Adam's vocals on the Apothic Gloom, but holy shit this is great stuff. What a fucking vocal. I get a Fiction-era Dark Tranquillity vibe from the vocals and the song. Sounds like "Inside the Particle Storm" in bits.
i discovered this album recently as well. love it because it's like insomnium and wolfheart. two of my favourite melodic death metal bands. totally different from their previous albums. love it.

I dig it. So many people don't like Chance being out, and that's understandable. However, I feel that this is the freshest the band has sounded in years, and I love The Apothic Gloom EP to death. Let the boys experiment a little. It's a good thing.

I am 67 years. Never heard this band. Formulaic to me. Someone who really likes this and Is young and exploring might try classic Death albums if they haven't already. Chuck has reached world icon status and deservedly so. But I am quite impressed by this vocalist. Reminiscent of Abbath but with a bad case of hemmoroids and constipation. I like him. Quite unique.
