great voice and tune. also heard it on the podcast. the melody reminds me a bit of sheryl crowe's "strong enough". keep on keepin on - and be good to yourselves
My uncle just died. And I don't wanna have those thoughts at death but I feel we all will to a point. The flesh is weak and wants to preserve its own ways. But the Spirit. Ohhh the Spirit is pure and free and is forever!
Thanks to Theo for putting me onto yet another hitter and of course, big thanks to Mr Bartels, my playlist is all the better now with his vocal/lyrical wonderment
DrMrov Čenl same here gang gang, Theo loves to play goofy man the heart and brilliance in that man leads people to the heart and brilliance in a man like Mr. Evan
Hearing this song changed my life and brought me back to God. Words can't express how grateful I am to you Evan. Peace and love to you and yours brother!
Theo Von's podcast from today brought me here. It's a dying breed.. an artist putting together something so beautiful but simple with only his voice and a guitar. No autotune or synths are needed here, just real music with a story and a feeling.
When I became a caretaker for a friend who was dieing, I found this song. As I came back to faith, this song became my anthem. As I move forward I will not forget how powerful a few words and a melody can be for finding strength in myself and in God.
Heard this on Theo Vonn. This is a really beautiful song with really well thought out pacing, I like how you give a good rest in between vocals so we have a chance to really let the lyrics hit home in between lines it works incredibly well in this song. Very underrated in my opinion. keep up the good work!!
Mother, may I open my eyes? There's a great, big world waiting right outside Mother, may I raise my voice? Do "We the People" have that choice? Mother, may I rest my head Though I did not try my best? Mother, may I sip the wine Though I did not tend the vine? Oh, Death, you can come for me Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me Devil, I do have your name Stuck in my ear and I'm to blame And though I beg you, let me be Devil, you ignore my plea The crown of lies I wear in shame What I would give to try again Oh, Death, you can come for me Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me Well, Jesus, may I have your grace? Jesus, though I hide my face And will you cast my doubts away? Take my sins down to the grave If there is hope then let me see There is life for those like me Oh, Death, you can come for me Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me Oh, death, I will conquer thee
Brother you have made something that many will take up and down the roads of this journey.. I will be one of them. I cant help but think of all my transgressions.. BUT THANK JESUS OUR LORD !!!!!! for his Grace and ultimate sacrifice for all who call upon his name. I love you brothers and sisters. Till the end of the age.
Theo brought me here. Im facing 5 years in prison here on the 27th of this month and this song just broke me down to tears in such beautiful way. Thanks to theo for playing this song so i could find it and thank you mr. Barttels for making such a beautiful song. Im gonna pass this on to everyone i know. Thank you.
Honestly amazed that this guy isnt crazy famous. Helps me get through a hard day. Keep working man someday it will pay off and hopefully you can help many others.
Do you ever realize you have always been enough. Through the darks nights in a windy gale. Salted snotted sleeves and memory. A picture of solitude. On rhe docks of gratitude
amazing song. I come back to this song most mornings now. I love the soulful simplicity of it, but also it makes me think in depth with the lyrics. I've lost my faith in growing older, but this song really makes me ponder of whether i actually lost faith in jesus or if the commercialization of the church and hypocrisy and shaming of todays "christians" are more to blame...
That hitter. Just heard this today and it makes me cry im at work looking like a fool lol thank you brother. Beautiful song you played to my soul i will be listening - theo brought me here
This was the song I played on the way home from my grandma passing on repeat. It still brings the emotions up as it happened yesterday over 2 years later.
As Kaufman said, "Say who you are, really say it in your life and in your work. Tell someone out there who is lost, someone not yet born, someone who won’t be born for 500 years. Your writing will be a record of your time. It can’t help but be that. But more importantly, if you’re honest about who you are, you’ll help that person be less lonely in their world because that person will recognise him or herself in you and that will give them hope." This song stands out from your others and cannot be compared to them because the pain in your voice combined with the lyrics is relatable on a deeper level than can be conveyed by words. No song I have ever heard reflects my relationship with my mother closer than this, in fact the others aren't even a scratch on the surface. I cry every time I hear it but in a healing way. When I listen to it I feel like someone else understands my pain, and that I'm not so alone. Thank you brother.
I thought Jason Isbell was great, and he is. This guy is a step or two, or three, above. Will rip your soul out. The greatest art comes from the greatest pain. Jesus.
Did anyone else have to immediately pause Theo's podcast to look up this song?

Mother, may I open my eyes?
There's a great, big world waiting right outside
Mother, may I raise my voice?
Do "We the People" have that choice?
Mother, may I rest my head
Though I did not try my best?
Mother, may I sip the wine
Though I did not tend the vine?
Oh, Death, you can come for me
Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me
Devil, I do have your name
Stuck in my ear and I'm to blame
And though I beg you, let me be
Devil, you ignore my plea
The crown of lies I wear in shame
What I would give to try again
Oh, Death, you can come for me
Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me
Well, Jesus, may I have your grace?
Jesus, though I hide my face
And will you cast my doubts away?
Take my sins down to the grave
If there is hope then let me see
There is life for those like me
Oh, Death, you can come for me
Oh, Death, but you can't comfort me
Oh, death, I will conquer thee

Found this song on Theo Von's podcast. Great song. It really shows the emotion of both good and bad maternal relationships.

This guy has a very bright future and potential to possibly be the next big thing.
