- So What's The Science Behind Food Comas
A food coma, also known as postprandial somnolence, is a state of drowsiness and fatigue that can occur after a large or heavy meal. This phenomenon is caused by a combination of factors, including the release of insulin in response to a spike in blood sugar levels, an increase in the production of tryptophan in the brain, and the release of certain hormones that can make us feel sleepy. Symptoms of a food coma can include fatigue, drowsiness, and a decrease in mental alertness.

Serotonin involved in food comas, but not insulin.
