- With the release of last weeks podcast episode (Ep 38 Communicore East) we figured it was as good a time as any to dig up some of Todd's Communicore West footage from 1986. As we were about to do that we got an email from the Dworsky Family stating that they had Communicore East footage from 1989. We put the two together in the following video that will take you back when touch screens were in their infancy.
The video opens up in 1986 with some wonderful shots of the green area between East and West. From there we head over to Futurecom where we see the Information Fountain and the Age of Information (Einsel Theater). Todd's mom and brother take a spin at Phraser and his brother then plays the face scramble game. Heading into East we spend our time at the Energy Exchange with the touch screen games.
If you or anyone you know has footage of Communicore please email us at podcast@retrowdw.com
80s where hands down the best decade to be a kid.
And it brings the world closer to you!
35 years ago, what an amazing impact disney had on me.
Best memories of my youth.
Absolutely. They truly were the best times of our youth
What a blast from the past.... who else remembers going in the room with the big cellphone and making a call to someone? Those Communicores were really neat as an 80s and 90s kid.
These "old time" EPCOT attractions look like what you would find in a science center geared towards families. I would have loved this when I was a kid and you would have had to pry me out of there (I was in the 6th grade when EPCOT first opened). Disney could EASILY update this and still maintain the educational/learning aspects. But no, let's have another thrill ride with characters from a movie franchise.
Thank you so very much. Epcot was magic for me and my brother in 84’ and 85’
Wonderful in so many ways. Thank u again
If i were a kid back then I would have loved this. Today I'm not sure. It was very forward thinking for its time. I wish EPCOT was still like that. Now its turning into an entertainment park. And not an edutainment park. Sadly. I miss the old EPCOT.
Holy s*** I finally found footage of the inside this is really cool
almost 40 years later, it's still a towering bigger than life memory, being in there.
The light bulb scenes are priceless @ 5:20 ....
I love all the 80s fashion and vintage ambiance Epcot still has a 80s vibe to it
love the three part series on this.. great flashback.. good find on videos. but last clip of the lady trying to load passengers and luggage, just shows you how far ppl have come to understand touch screen tech.
2:51 That gadget looks WAY ahead of its time this being filmed in 1986
I always liked smrt-1 and the computer taxi game where you navigate around a maze in a taxicab. As a kid these attractions were amazing and it is a shame that they are gone. R.I.P communicore.
@04:28 🤣
@1:50 Hello "***" WHAT?! lol
I see the concept of using juvenile dirty words in video games has been around since the beginning. 😁
5:21 ..Put the spurs to her big fella😜
Looks like a bunch of cheesy low quality computer games and interactions, and they were! But we were entering the age of dial up modems and smaller brick phones, so all of it was pretty fascinating to touch and see! As a kid you knew, this is the only place you're going to be able to get your fill of a game, so we made it count! My favorites were the 3D coaster maker, and SMRT-1 the robot!
Ranch Dressing it was a preview of what was to come. For us, ‘tomorrows child’, it was a chance to touch a future that was in the making. In 1982 it really was a glimpse into the 21st century.
You say low quality but Windows 1.0 came out, like, last week, man.
Lol @5 min mark
Inno-who?
Manimal789 Inno-what?
