  • This week we're enjoying central coast views from one of the best places to stay in Big Sur. Lucia Lodge is a unique and historic hotel here which boasts stunning clifftops views. Nestled on the cliff side 300 feet above the water's edge in the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, Lucia Lodge is located directly off Highway 1 only 20 minutes south of McWay Falls and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

These are Kodiak “Fernie” boots. They are so comfortable (I have them linked in my amazon shop but you can get them at Nordstrom/REI Kodiakboots.com) they are so comfy!😊

In the past we were booked to stay there. I arrived and heard a loud generator & said forget it. Why pay big bucks to hear city noise? Maybe it has changed as that was years ago, but if not bring your earplugs. Anyways it is right next to the highway so I would call it far from "one of the best places" as this plug vid purports. One person summed up their stay with this comment: The motel is really worn down and imho absolutely not worth the price ($250), except for one thing, the view.

As a central CA local I can confidently say that $250 for an ocean view stay in Big Sur is a steal and as you can clearly see can hear from my video there is no generator noise here (in 2023). I only share places I love and the historic Lucia Lodge is (in my opinion) a wonderful stop along the Big Sur coast. This is one of the very few Big Sur hotels located directly overlooking the ocean and I’ve never had a stay here that I didn’t enjoy. If you want to pay well over $1,000 a night you can definitely book Post Ranch Inn or Ventana (which are both beautiful) but you don’t get the close the ocean view you have here. You can also book numerous inland hotels tucked away from the famous Hwy 1 for a comparable price of $200-$300 a night but you’ll miss the beautiful ocean view and that’s certainly a major Big Sur highlight. Hanging out on my little deck here (or on one of the properties private secluded viewpoints) watching the Milky Way night sky and listening to the ocean waves crash is priceless to me. Of course everyone is entitled to have a unique opinion and as someone who has stayed here (as well as at numerous other Big Sur hotels/campgrounds) for nearly two decades, this video accurately represents mine.
