This is the conclusion of a 5-part interview with Robert Kirkman. This time he discusses how he listens to retailers to understand what they want with modern comics. He hypes his new comic Firepower with artist Chris Samnee. And he explains how he brought Walking Dead back to help comic book shops in these tough times. We end the interview discussing what excites him in comic books today. - Розваги
Robert Kirkman is a solid dude and extremely generous. Loved this interview series. Would love to see more 👍🏽
Totally agree. This was the best interview I've seen. Kirkman is pretty down you earth. Seems like a normal dude
I love how he really gives back to his fans and comic stores as well. Like you said he’s a real solid dude.
I love this.
Comic Tropes is the best comic channel on youtube.
And the margin by which this is true isn't even close.
@@peterwerle7966 Cartoonist Kayfabe with Ed Piskor and Jim Rugg is right up there. They've been doing amazing longform interviews. Chris and them are by far my favorite UA-cam channels.
This is the truth !
I just wanted to chime in with a nod in agreement. By far my favorite comic book channel.
One of the best channels * ;)
This episode is really special to me because one time I peed beside Kirkman at SDCC.
Did you get his splashback? 🤣🤣
really glad i saw this comment
Weird...
...but I suppose it's an "anecdote" I'd have to use, too. Piss with greatness! Wow.
I did not imagine this taking place in the bathroom or involving urinals whatsoever. 💀
Did you wipe down his urinal for resale on EBay or Craigslist?
So I don't really follow The Walking Dead religiously. I do enjoy Robert Kirkman's book, but after finding out here that NEGAN LIVES support my local store. I went out and actually purchased it in solidarity with my local shop. Thank you, Mr. Kirkman and thank you, Chris for letting us know about this.
Before watching this interview, I have to be honest, I've never read a book of his. After seeing this interview and seeing the love and passion as well as his generosity... I will be supporting him and buying some of his books...
I’ve only read Invincible and Walking Dead but I’m looking forward to reading more of his titles
Kirkman is absolutely right, getting fans hooked on a book with a single issue is incredibly hard. Releasing the intro to Firepower in trade format was a stroke of genius.
Wow, that’s crazy generous of Kirkman and crew. Thanks for spreading the word, Chris.
This was great. I didn't know this much about Kirkman other than The Walking Dead. It's good to see a long conversation with an experienced comic book creator and what he does with success.
It also made me really think about the motivations behind comics put out by Marvel.
Tru tru hea one of the best
I really recommend Invincible!
Kirkman is the man. Just the fact that he’s an Uber rich dude who still does what he loves is amazing. He will always be in my top five favorite comic book writers of all time. Just picked up firepower, looks so fun! Stoked
These interviews with Kirkman have been very awesome.
We need more Robert Kirkman in the comic industry. Hoping after the pandemic comes to an end he can visit the Puerto Rico Comic Con.
Well done acquiring the quite brilliant Mr Robert Kirkman, a fantastic set of interviews, he’s the epitome of an individual that loves his work and puts it in, very inspirational. Thanks again, Bro. Keep up the stellar work. Peace. Wayne. K2KRadio London
I absolutely loved the way they released Fire Power, genius and perfect. Prelude was awesome, and it's lovely to kick start your collection with a nice weighty story, and nice looking OGN. Then issue 1 was great, and importantly they both felt nicely separate (as is obvious if you've read both), so that made it feel like the OGN was justified, and "Prelude" is a very fitting title/description of it. Absolutely pumped for the series.
Your love for comics shows in every video you make and it is infectious. Thanks for these videos.
He was really leaning into that end of the world scenario...
This is great. Very. Generous of Kirkman.
The way he showed his new comics was adorable.
The way comics are priced, I will only ever consider buying trade paperbacks. Individual issues are just... daunting.
I agree, I don’t buy individual issues. It’s mad
This dude is 100% spot on. More books should hit as OGNs straight up.
what is ogn? i'm latino
@@borisalvarez3988 Original Graphic Novel. Instead of 5 or 6 single issues making up a 140 page story, the full story is published altogether.
Great interview! Mr Kirkman is a cool guy. Had a lot of fun watching! 😁
That was a truly epic interview. Your conversational style allowed for a lot of off the cuff moments and anecdotes I’d never heard before. You both were great!
Great interview. I met Robert and Ryan Ottley at Heroes Con years ago (long before the show but well after TWD was a hit). Very fun to shoot the crap with them (primarily Ryan) and see the fun that they had. I might be wrong but I’ve sworn ever since that on the last day Robert was signing GNs from his table and not even charging people for them. Funny thing was him signing books for other creators and drawing inappropriate things in them and telling them how he bet they wouldn’t be on eBay now. 😄 Just a really personable guy.
Oh hi! You caught me watching an awesome 5 part Robert Kirkman interview and buying the channel some coffee.
great question about how to print books cheaper. they're so expensive right now that i don't know how new young readers can get into comic books
Give us another Science Dog comic, Mr. Kirkman, please.
Oh hi! I was just watching your interviews with Robert Kirkman and immensely enjoying them!
I met Robert Kirkman many years ago at Baltimore Comic-Con and this was before I had read The Walking Dead. I really was only familiar with his Marvel Team-Up stuff at the time. He was really cool and awesome to talk to. I can't believe how much I've loved his stuff since then. I really hope I get another chance to meet him at a con (if another one happens) and thank him for The Walking Dead and Invincible. Those are my absolute favorite comics ever and I am already hyped for Firepower! Kudos for these awesome videos, Chris!
20:38 yeah man, great artists!
These interviews are keeping me warm through the workday. Keep on keeping on, baby!
If I wasn't reading enough Kirkman, I'm certainly going to make an effort after that great interview. Always cool to hear people who are excited about comics rather than all the whining that's going on out there.
This was an amazing interview, Chris. I had never heard Robert Kirkman speak in a longform setting before, and this has renewed my interest in his work.
It’s so refreshing to hear a comic pro respect the fans and comic stores. No ego at all. Kirkman is one of the greats
Chris.... simply fantastic interview. Well done, and immensely informative. Thanks for doing this and all that you do otherwise with the channel. It’s much appreciated, all the work you do . You deserve to be dong this full time.
I love this kind of content! Also enjoyed your conclusions on Donny Cates in your vid about him and his work. Just discovered this channel and cant stop watching! Kirkman rocks.
Dude, I watched the first three parts of this interview, then UA-cam started burying me with EVERY interview Robert Kirkman has ever given! DUDE!!?
Wonderful series of interviews Chris.
Great interview and wonderful of Kirkman to come up with that idea. I usually wait a month or two between visits to comic shops for trades but I need to go more often
Best interview EVER!
What Kirkman did for the comic stores, that's so WOW to me. Unlike Donny Cates who called for Hollywood to help (yeah no lol), Kirk the man put his money where his mouth is. Respect for the guy.
The thing is my boi kirkman probably has money to do that I don’t think cates has enough working for marvel
Dude, Donny Cates also paid for an entire stores' worth of unclaimed pull lists in order to support them. Can we not use someone's good deeds to tear down another?
@@erichernandez4062
Fair enough, he probably did it after the news I read (why which let me think he did it because of some internet backlash or else he would have done that in the same moment he called out Hollywood).
I still remember Cates being quite rude with people downloading illegally his comics in third world countries where they were not even available. I guess he only cares about businesses that involves his own money.
"That too-poor guy who can't even afford my comics ? Yeah, fuck him" - Probably Donny Cates
@@En_theo All the creators who are not bestsellers like Kirkman are assholes to people who illegally download their work. Also, dragging Cates to this? Why? For getting a chance to adapt HIS OWN comic to a big budget movie? For also helping stores during this pandemic?
Daniel Warren Johnson is genuinely creating some exciting content. I'm a huge fan.
Great interview. Amazing creative and community effort. Inspiring
So glad you're still making great videos
Awesome interview!!! Loved every part. Got to get that Fire Power comic!
I hope we get Negan lives issue 2 sometime in future.
I know a few books I’M buying with my next stimulus check! Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn’t heard about these at all.
Wait! There's another check coming?
@@cheayunju Yeah, they are still working out who all is getting it though. Congress comes back from vacation in 12 days so we'll see.
Awesome interview Chris!
I'm always afraid that beloved creators will turn out to be arrogant pricks in real life, so it's great to see that Kirkman is a down-to-earth, hard-working guy who genuinely loves his creative medium.
More of these interviews please. Thank you sir, may I please have another?
Just finished watching all 5 parts . Really fun and interesting . Hope you get a chance to do more in the same vein .
A couple of points on these videos.
1 - Really like the way you release them. I would have been totally cool with all these being one long video but I do agree that it is better space them out on several videos to allow more engagement and also direct each to a main topic.
2 - Love that we are seeing more on creator deep-dive mini documentaries and also in-person conversations. We need more of those than shitty lore videos that require no more effort than reading a wiki.
3 - With future videos, I appreciate that we are seeing more on the history, and the unsung history of some creators and lesser known facts.
4 - With Robert specifically, I also agree that Ryan is being wasted on ASM. Not to diss Spencer, but his work is being dragging, not because of pandemic but there are so many filler stories that although some are fun, are not engaging enough to keep track of this long running mystery of Kindred. Robert is so correct on there being too many boring Spider-Man comics. I think one of the main reasons Invinvible was so successful was because it allowed itself to not be too invested on one thing, rather in seeing the life of Mark and constantly moving onto the next thing, while having multiple developments outside of the core characters. This is an example that I think reflects on the larger picture of Marvel and DC, which are the most dominant players in the US. If these two are not able to rework their model to actually allow change and growth in their stories rather than just selling the never-ending tale (that can work, but not in their current business model over the last 20 years).
Awesome interview. I never knew how cool Robert Kirkman was. I'm definitely going to get the issues of Fire Power.
I am really loving the Nick Spencer's Spider-Man run, but you are 100% right that Ottley is definitely not getting GOOD enough stuff to write. I was gutted he wasn't on the Hunted arc. (Luckily I love Ramos).
This was very entertaining to watch while having a little snack and doodling 😊 thank you for your content
Jeezus, Chris. You're downright spoiling us.
Hope we get more Negan Lives! Didn’t collect much of Walking Dead but bought this to support my local shop and loved it!
Great interview, I love it 😉👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
FIRE POWER was great - it feels like the start of TWD and Invincible.
It’s crazy that Chris is actually in the comics industry and has a real love of it and his channel doesn’t do half as well as really crappy comic channels do.
I always loved the walking dead but now that invincible is a show I started reading those comics now too. At this point I'd buy anything robert kirkman writes just because of how much I love his work and how he seems like hes a good guy
Holy cow!!! Kirkman on your channel - awesome man.
This should have millions of views
Thanks for helping comic shops!
I got really excited when I read the title of this video because I had released a comic called Firepower in 2018 on Comixology, Amazon and Indy Planet.
One of the most cool guys into the industry!
Congrats, my friend! Great interview!
Spring 2028 is when all of The Walking Dead deluxe editions will be released
Another one? Fantastic!!
Lol love your final edits
I had the pleasure of meeting him once, I liked how he took the time for me, this was very entertaining!
Love your channel and really appreciate the work you go to 👌🏼🙏🏼 Robert is an awesome dude, great interview. Hey did I hear him say he is looking for comic artists that write their own stories... should defo check out "The Grokk"
Chris, I'm a new subscriber and enjoy your intelligent commentary. Gold Key comics are
seldom mentioned: how about an episode on Russ Manning's Magnus Robot Fighter? A
piece on Turok Son of Stone (honkers!!) would be cool too.
You forgot about one of the best current Writer/Artists, Jeff Lemire and the amazing stuff Writer/Artist stuff Sean Gordon Murphy has been doing.
I loved fire power so much I got a physical and digital copy. It is that good.
Picking up my copy of Firepower tonight.
This was amazing
Kirkman is an instant W
Just subscribed!!!😊
One day maybe i too could run my own business in a creative industry. Highly respectable
When he mentions his list of ideas it reminded me of Peter Dinklage in Elf. Lol.
Im extremely excited for fire power, and i love outer darkness on his skybound imprint!
That is awesome that Kirkman gave Negan Lives to the comic shops......
I just read firepower 1-7 in one sitting. Took about an hour, and I loved it. Can't wait till Wednesday.
Chris, you should start numbering these! I have no idea which videos I've watched or not already!
The thumbnails are numbered but the topics aren’t linear so you can watch in any order.
I wish Robert Kirkman could write more episodes again in Walking Dead! I didn't like everything he written in the comics..but I'll prefer him than any other that's behind the tv show right now because the story doesn't seem as organic than the comics.
Firepower was the best book I read last week. Definitely hyped for this.
Thank you Robert!
I got it, a monthly interview series with Robert called "Robert Tropes", that gives an update on what's happening and what's new with Image comics, an overview of the comic industry that month, and just some all around miscellaneous chit chat!!!
I might just have to Patreon on that!!! : )
I'd love to know if The Secret history of comics is returning to AMC.... I'm not sure if one of these videos and clips has that information but does anybody now
Met Robert Kirkman at an ice cream shop outside the convention center at San Diego comic con. I asked to take a picture and he took one with me right there. Thanks for the stories man, Walking Dead comics is awesome. The show’s alright too.
TWD got me INTO outcast and oblivion song. Been on those from issue #1. Got my firepower fcb too!
What a nice guy Kirkman is. Keep on Oblivion Song man :D
Personally, I LOVE Outcast!
Walt Simonson still writes and draws his own comics. Check out his comic Ragnarok by IDW.
Great interview! The Coffin Crew are fans of TWD!
I took a shot for every ‘you know’ from Kirkman. I just died from alcohol poisoning and am writing this from the afterlife.
Great interview nonetheless Chris. You guys are awesome.
Chris, please make an episode about Hellblazer... one of the best series of the former Vertigo that has no video about it in the channel
Can't wait for more battle pope
"See You Down at Arizona Bay!"
Robert Kirkman is my Man crush!! I'm not ashamed to admit that! Robert Kirkman, you are beautiful!
Ryan Ottley Spiderman does not have enough action scenes for sure. Still love his art thou.
you need to start your own interview podcast
Welp, off to go buy Fire Power
I would love to read new comics but I don’t have the space. Is there an image app where I can read them on my phone?
Best damm creator interview i ve ever watched..i could watch another 10 parts of this..ofc i m a fan of the channel since almost the start for the quality content but usually creator interviews bore me ..not this one!also Kirkman is a hell of a guy..top grades!☺️👏
You save the best episode for the last!
