In this video I look at 3 of the best audio recording software programs for Windows 10 in early 2019. There are others available, these are just 3 that I personally prefer. Let me know in the comments what program or programs you use for audio recording and audio editing.

Thank you, really helpful! Weirdly I already had tracktion and audacity downloaded without realising why I had, now they'll come in handy :D starting a voice acting career hopefully, tracktion seems great considering I sing and enjoy producing too. great video !
@@AudioTechTV I just bought a blue yet only yesterday actually, I rushed into it a little bit (admittedly without a lot of research) but it's what I can afford and I'm happy with how it sounds. Just getting started!

Thanks for sharing this info, man. I used Audacity for quite long but recently I try other DAW like Ableton, Fruity Loops & Adobe Audition...every DAW has their own plus and minus
Thank you for watching. I agree every DAW has its pluses and minuses. You just need to find the one that works best for your style and workflow. What one are you preferring to use now?
These programs should work with Windows 8 too. Tracktion T7 is no longer available but they updated it to Tracktion Waveform Free and it’s much better. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
@Mariell Janine Espiritu Audacity doesn't use ASIO drivers so it has more latency then other programs. What you can do if you have an audio interface is turn on direct monitoring so you can hear your voice going through it live and then you will need to adjust it on the timeline after it's recorded. You can also try another program that uses ASIO drivers and see how low you can get your latency.
So I just finished building my studio room in my basement. I'm old school lol that's what I learned on. Problem is to use it effectively, I have to run a virtual machine in my windows. I'd rather find something similar that's more current to windows and I guess isnt from the caveman days.

For just recording your voice, you could use Audacity. It's very easy to use and will get you great results. You will want to make sure you have a decent mic and audio interface or a decent USB mic.
@@wallybornmann8336 If you're just recording your voice. Cakewalk is overkill as it's designed more for music production. I'm sure you'll find Audacity very easy to use. Good luck. Thank you for watching!

Tracktion Waveform Free (the latest version of T7) has video capabilities. You would have to create a video in the program or use a jpg image as your video. But really these are mainly for audio. You can use these programs for free for recording and editing. I use Waveform as my main go to program now and it’s great for both recording and editing. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Thank you this video. i am using Audacity for a while and it wors perfectly for me to make different tracks like drums bass and guitar. What i would like to have is a drummachine in stead of metronome. I am using a Digitech bass processer which include a drum program. I use a guitar-link for all of them to record on Windows 10. Once a good default for speakers USB you can hear the recorded track while recording another. Best regards John
I have used DAK Audio Workshop for years, starting off loading it to Windows XP, then Windows 7. It worked great and I was really happy with it. However, when I upgraded my computer to Windows 10, I also had to upgrade DAK to its Windows 10 version, with which I am not entirely happy. Wish they hadn't upgraded it so much. I would've liked it better had it stayed the same. Just not happy with the change.
Pro tools sounded good up until you mentioned cloud service lol! I'm a small youtube content creator for Car Audio DIY Projects and I like to make hip-hop style beats. At the moment I use a Roland Fantom G7 but there are some limitations to the midi tracks as well as space for plug ins. Once im done recoding my beat on my Fantom G7 I record it to my USB drive using a Denon DN300R but there is also a 256k max recording quality lol! Over all I've been making this worl for me but would love a software where I can use different sounds built into the software and use my Fantom G7 as a midi control but also have a device where I can plug in my bass or Guitar for a more Realistic sound. Simple Green Tech yes definitely. I recorded using the first music software you mentioned, then loaded the vocals into bandlab and edited using free plugins and plugged some compressors to my beat. Came out great, now I can send it to my producer. Thanks for the idea man!
Hi Radio Zane. I like your videos. God sound and right to it...way to go, man. RZ, I've had literally a few hundred people tell me for decades I should get on radio, or basically to monetize my voice. Enough folks have told me; I have a poet friend in Cali that I've never met, but have spoken with on the phone. She dropped $300 on a local (Southern Illinois) sound studio track session. Nuts, man. So, what i REALLY want is a simple tool that I can record and then edit. All I need to do, function wise, is get rid of my breathing, and any other sounds I may emit while speaking. I would like to do the audio editing myself. I have a room that is acoustically favorable to my endeavor. SO, (finally, right?), what software would you recommend I purchase? I don't want free software. I've found the freebies are free for a reason. That said, I don't mind spending money to get what I want; to get rid of pauses and breathing sounds. (I am a smoker, and it comes through). Thanks again and I will be on the lookout for a reply.
Hi Michael. Thank you for checking out the video. The program that I use most of the time at work and at home is Adobe Audition. You will find this program in almost every radio station because of how easy it is to use and the professional results that you can achieve. It is at a premium price point. If you want something very close for just editing your voice and you don't need the multi-track sessions that Adobe Audition has then you can look at Sound Forge Audio Studio. It is very similar to Audition when it comes to editing a single audio file. You can easily zoom in and out of your wave file to get all of those little sounds out of your audio that you don't want. This software is not as expensive as Audition but it doesn't have the multi-track editor like Audition. If you think you might eventually edit commercials, or other things that will require you to have a sound bed and maybe some sound effects plus your voice then you may want to go with Audition as it combines the traditional multi-track mode and the wave mode. But for just editing your voice both programs will work nice. I know you can download a 30 day free trial of Sound Forge here bit.ly/Magix-SoundForge13 and you can see if that is what you want. You can get a 7 day free trial of audition here www.adobe.com/ca/products/audition/free-trial-download.html and see how that works for you. I hope this helps.
i've used Music Maker 16...it was a free dwnld. pretty easy, self taught, so user friendly! only my motherboard on the laptop crashed on me...so not sure if it was the program to blame... lost all my music. so starting over with this HP 15 TS..Wind10, and I need a good quality FREE programs to get me started.. Thanks for the vid!
The one that I find easiest for layering audio is Tracktion T7. That would be my first recommendation for your needs as it loads up quick, takes very little cpu power to run, and the workflow/operation is easy to figure out. That’s my personal opinion. You may prefer another program but give T7 a try and see if it works for you.
Copy the link address of the video you want then go on a UA-cam to mp3 converter then download it then go your audio recording software and import the sound you downloaded
I am wanting to record a series of personal stories about my life so I can give this to my children and grandchildren. I don't figure on doing a lot of editing...not sure how to edit anyway...any ideas...you mentioned an audio interface...I have a microphone..a blackweb Premium usb...I am short on knowledge about how to do this.
You can probably use the USB mic you have and for software get Audacity. It’s super easy to use for recording voice. Test the mic you have already and if you are happy with the audio quality stick with it. If you want something better and don’t want to spend too much money the Fifine K669b is a decent sounding USB mic and I think it’s around $30.
Simple Green Tech this comment and answer helped me a lot, my mom is about to lose her voice and needed me to help her. I’m not familiar with the programs and I’ll give this one a try, thank you.
I am starting my own internet radio station and just need to be able to record and edit my own jingles and sweepers. Which would you suggest of the 3 you mentioned. I am a novice at this
I would go with Tracktion T7 personally. But Audacity is also a great choice for your needs. It’s pretty easy to use but I like the layout, workflow and vst effect capabilities of Tracktion T7. They are going to be releasing their next free program very soon which is a big upgrade over T7. I work in broadcast radio and personally I use Adobe Audition for most things but it is a little pricey. T7 can be a decent free alternative. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Nice video.....I downloaded pro tools first but what I wanted to know is whats the difference between using interface on an effect peddle vs a normal audio interface like focusrite?
If your effect pedal has an audio interface built in then it should be fine to record with. Your pedal might only have an instrument input. The Focusrite can handle instrument signals, line level signals, and the Focusrite also has mic preamps with phantom power. The Focusrite can record two inputs at the same time to separate tracks. I’m not sure an effects pedal can do that. There could also be a difference in the AD/DA converters but likely not a huge difference. But if you are just planning to record an instrument and don’t need the mic inputs then you should be alright with the effects pedal.
@@AudioTechTV thanks man iI was also worried about the quality of the sound as i was using my electric violin but i guess it all comes down to the mix/mastering
Cakewalk is a great program. If you are comfortable with it, keep using it. You can always experiment with other DAWs every now and then too. Thank you for watching. Keep creating!
I just need to know one thing,. I want to use software to control multiple audio inputs,..ALL OF THEM VOCAL,..NONE ARE GUITARS OR MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, I will NEVER use any drum sounds). I need to run as many as eight channels simultaneously. Probably 4, 5 or 6 microphones and maybe, occasionally add in someone on a cell phone calling in. I need to plug all of this into a PC or Mac and record all of them and control all of them at the same time. Any ideas? (please note: if you have not seen this actually done, please don't waste my time with your theories. i have spent money on other people's theories and it was all down the drain. I need to know this will work before I spend the first dollar.)
You should be able to use any type of laptop. A 64 bit system would probably be better but there are still 32 bit programs so use whatever you have to get started.
I bought a Dell laptop windows 10. I downloaded the CAKEWALK by BANDLAB program. I'm having a hard time with the audio drivers! (????) When I record a track, it's appearant that the laptop mic is on. I get room noise. Instead of the audio being recorded directly from the program to the track. Or, from the guitar to the track. I'm also using a Scarlett 2i2 focusrite interface. I'm at a loss.
I go over setting up your audio interface in Cakewalk in this video ua-cam.com/video/dKZQOkf792g/v-deo.html check it out if you haven’t. Hope it helps.
Hi, recently upgraded to a windows 10 pc. Used Soundforge xp for many years to record albums, cassettes and audio online. What's the comparable program to continue with for windows 10?
You could get the newer version of Soundforge but it's not free. If you're just recording albums and cassettes into your computer and want a free program Audacity should work for you. The interface might be similar to Soundforge XP too.
I just have one really really simple concern and that is: What free software is available when I just want to record a song using a headset with external mic together with an mp3 instrumental/minus one that is stored in my laptop? Thank you in advance!
@@AudioTechTV Sir, I have another concern and I really hope you can help me on this. What if my file is a video file which is a karaoke video .mp4 for example, how can I record the audio of that source while playing it and singing with it at the same time? I tried just playing it in the background and audacity just recorded my voice and not the background audio of the .mp4 video. Thank you so much!
You could extract just the audio from the mp4 and put that on a separate track in audacity. If you are getting your files from UA-cam there are online sites that will download just the MP3 audio of a video. Also VLC player has a feature that allows you to export the video as an MP3. Load the MP3 in audacity and then when you hit record it should create a new track that you’ll record your voice into. When you’re done recording you can came export the entire project to an MP3 so it will combine your voice and the music together into one file that you can share or Do whatever you want with. You can even adjust the levels before you export just in case the music is too loud or too low.

well I use soundbridge its also open source but a bit underrated . Now I am learning T7 . And audacity is a classic . Soundbridge is a mix up whit reason and FL studio and a bit of studio one . It comes whit cool sound effects . But to add vst can by a bit a pain . T7 at least knows how to scan the folder whit the VSTs

@@AudioTechTV I got traction and it's not free..
Tracktion T7 is free but Tracktion Waveform is not. Did you download T7?
@@AudioTechTV I'm not sure, it just says traction, it's possible it's not t7, I'll dowload the T7 one
great informative video. Quick ?, is there one you'd recommend that's easiest to add in music over the top of the audio for a meditation, for example?
The one that I find easiest for layering audio is Tracktion T7. That would be my first recommendation for your needs as it loads up quick, takes very little cpu power to run, and the workflow/operation is easy to figure out. That’s my personal opinion. You may prefer another program but give T7 a try and see if it works for you.
this mans voice is bootiful
How can I record myself with UA-cam karaoke?
Have you found the solution? I could tell you If you need help.
Copy the link address of the video you want then go on a UA-cam to mp3 converter then download it then go your audio recording software and import the sound you downloaded
Taylor in short he can go to mp3 juice that will convert for u when u only press download

I received pro tools first with m- audio keystation and it doesn't work properly. It won't allow me to connect the midi keyboard to it. Very annoying.
runtime error in audacity how to fix that
I am starting my own internet radio station and just need to be able to record and edit my own jingles and sweepers.
@@AudioTechTV i was thinking the same. Thanks going to go research and try now. Again thank you.
is pro tools free?
Pro Tools First is free.
Thank you...
I'll stick to cakewalk then
Cakewalk is a great program. If you are comfortable with it, keep using it. You can always experiment with other DAWs every now and then too. Thank you for watching. Keep creating!
I go for Tracktion 7
Tracktion 7 is a great program! I really enjoy using it too.
Ty for vid... mama thought me “free is always better” 😜😜😜
Thank you for checking out the video. Free is always great!
Huh. Mine always taught me you get what you pay for

Hey I’m very new to this whole music audio recording I need to know if I need a specific laptop for audio recording or can I use any type of laptop?
You should be able to use any type of laptop. A 64 bit system would probably be better but there are still 32 bit programs so use whatever you have to get started.
Simple Green Tech Thankyou very much much appreciated
dude, thank u so much,it helped me doing my homework :))
Can i record with those recommended daw software like professional.....great video though
Yes you can record pro quality audio with these programs.
Very helpful. Thanks
thank you so much bro >> I really love your channel ♥

I am recording my originals hear them here advice?
Using FL Studio to compose and arrange and Audacity for audio recording
Hi, recently upgraded to a windows 10 pc. Used Soundforge xp for many years to record albums, cassettes and audio online. What's the comparable program to continue with for windows 10?
You could get the newer version of Soundforge but it's not free. If you're just recording albums and cassettes into your computer and want a free program Audacity should work for you. The interface might be similar to Soundforge XP too.
Such wise words at the end.
I've been using garage band. Just had to switch to Windows.
I just have one really really simple concern and that is: What free software is available when I just want to record a song using a headset with external mic together with an mp3 instrumental/minus one that is stored in my laptop? Thank you in advance!
Audacity is a simple one that can do that. But really all of these programs can do what you want.
@@AudioTechTV Great! Thank you so much!

I need an upgrade from audacity I need Manuel pitch correction
Reaper it says it's a trial but I've been using it for 2 years straight and it works pretty well with ReaTune which comes with the program
Very nice explanation

So you can't use pro tools offline?
Do u have any software to record the audio playing on the laptop?
Audacity should be able to do that by using the WASAPI driver.
@@AudioTechTV what is WASAPI?
I downloaded traction 7 then deleted it and it wiped out my pc wtf man
well I use soundbridge its also open source but a bit underrated .
Now I am learning T7 .
And audacity is a classic
.
Soundbridge is a mix up whit reason and FL studio and a bit of studio one .
It comes whit cool sound effects .
But to add vst can by a bit a pain .
T7 at least knows how to scan the folder whit the VSTs
Thank you for checking out the video. I haven’t used Soundbridge yet. There are so many high quality, free, audio recording software options available now it’s amazing.
I have really been liking Tracktion T7. I find the interface and flow to be very fast allowing me to just create and not fuss with anything.
@@AudioTechTV yeah can't agree .more
Dude, you a good man
Thank you for watching!
thanks for the great information so i would like to say as if audacity is limited for the kind of instrument plug in it allows for i'm winning with.
can i know which one it accepts?
You can’t use any instrument plugins with Audacity. It’s great for recording audio sources but not instrument plugins.
All are good. But 1 thing can i able to use melodyne in free daw
You can use Melodyne in T7 but it does not come with it. Tracktion Waveform comes with Melodyne and Autotune.
How is Magix Music Maker 17 ? I was using it slightly but not too much.
thank you for your last words about known software is the best and your grate suggestions.
