What we have on the roads is an overwhelming sense of entitlement. I see it every day. People think they’re special and the rules and the obligations to other people don’t apply to them.
It’s society in general - people don’t actually give a fk and if you call them out they kick off big time
Unfortunately it'll only get worse, its the world we live in, all we can do is drive, in such a way as to correct all the mistakes made by others to protect ourselves... and if we have dashcams we can put a little shame on their shoulders by posting on channels like this!!!

Often when people sound their horn in rebuke, it's because you've ruined their little driving experience and they want to complain to the manager... or whatever

Very true, boy racers never get away, you always pull up behind them.
best part is when they speed off into the distance 15+ miles over the speed limit, only to find themselves getting passed by me again because they were sitting at the red light while it conveniently switches to green as I roll up not needing to slow down.
I had it a few weeks back. Going down the 40mph dual carriageway near where I live doing about 44 on the speedo (so about 40IRL). Getting ready to move over to the right lane to turn right and there is a car coming up behind. Indicate in plenty of time and expect them to back off and let me over, but no, they keep coming. Back off myself to let them past and slot in behind. The lights for the junction are red, so I pull into the right turn lane and end up sitting next to them.
Happens very often
Why does that matter? Even if they stop at the next lights, once it is Green they dont have to be behind you so it was still worth it.
And why should you care? It is an overtake, I am not getting offended, I Just let them drive by
It's very important not to let other road users pressure you or rush you into doing things you feel are unsafe or wrong. If someone is tailgating you or if you are holding back for a safe gap to overtake a cyclist and the driver behind is getting close and moving out across the centre line in an attempt to rush you to overtake when you feel it is still not safe. Just hold you ground in these situations and don't feel rushed to do something you don't feel is safe just to please the other driver. If they want to do something silly then that is their call but you stay where you are and you will get home safe.
Worse is when they lack the skills to drive any faster than you are doing and are distinguished on the spot by the lack thereof.
Worst are those who will tell you off, weave the highway code / law at your face that you are driving slow and are presenting a threat/risk yourself - so they are in a belief that they did nothing wrong at pushing you to make the same mistakes...

From watching the clip of the cyclists going up the mountain, they should take their bikes elsewhere.
Not to mention camera car had plenty of room to speed up to overtake them anyway.
@@nekotranslates Am not familiar with the highway code, but unless it restricts cyclists going uphill for an increased amount of time, why not.
The cammer did good imo as well, as there were bends restricting the view, it was decided that an overtake should only take place on a stretch of road that can house such an overtake (considering time, placement and view, aside the cyclists
Mr.Mister. Absolutely correct. If you let other drivers intimidate you or pressure you. You are putting yourself in danger. You can only drive for yourself.And you can only drive defensively these days. As an ex ADI I used to say to my pupils, If you are in the right place,at all times. And if you drive correctly as I am instructing you, No one can intimidate you,unless you let them.

It's a road, cyclists are allowed on it. No different from a tractor or grandpa off to the golf club doing 20 in a 60 limit
There is a permanent 20 MPH speed limit near me as there are several schools in the vicinity, if you try to obey the speed limit you become public enemy NO.1.
20MPH school limits should be variable. Theres no reason to do 20mph on those roads in the evenings. Daytime/schooltime yes i get it.
@@YN-io6kj Usually you only have to stick to the 20mph speed limit when the lights flash, this one none and as i live in an area of zero tolerance it's not worth taking the risk.
@@chazsach6594 agreed its not worth the risk. If it says 20 stick to 20. But i still thimk that speed limit is rather ridiculous.
Here in bham the council is comverting nearly every 30mph into 20. Even very wide ones and it seems silly doing 20. Litterally no ome sticks to the 20 limit. Ive seen police cars casually driving at 30.
The problem is places where the 20 zome should actually be like schools and parks its being ignored and people do 30-35. Not to mention theyre horrobly signed most of the time.

I used to laugh at a school zone near where I used to live. You’d slow down to 20 and you’d have a car up your backside wanting you to go faster, and invariably it was some parent with their kid(s) who were late for school. I bet the shoe would be on the other foot if they caught you speeding past the school when their kids are on foot in the vicinity.

What I see as so common for, oh, maybe 90% of drivers, is a lack of imagination: imagining what *could* go wrong. They perform high risk maneuvers, but since they don't crash, they presume what they are doing is fine, or even a sign of their superior driving skills. Responsible driving is taking into consideration what *could* happen, and preparing for it.
2:28 Good cammer. The fact the van was appreciative and thanked him suggests he didn’t just sound the horn. Backing off and allowing others to do this sort of thing (even when they are completely in the wrong) always leads to a safer and calmer situation.
There are so many people whos vision ends about 2 ft in front of their car.
...And even more where the limit is the end of the bonnet!
Or two inches if you include traffic in the next lane or opposite lane.

Well to be fair I am damn near blind but still can pass the eyesight test to drive. And a lot of people have never had their eyes tested since they first passed.
There probably are drivers who legitimately can't see past the bonnet.

Impatience is the worst trait a driver can have - yet, as I've often said rushing can slow people down, and the number of drivers I've seen disappear up the road through impatient fast driving, only for me to be sitting up the side of them 2 miles up the road I can never guess

But in their minds, they've driven so much better than you (they haven't, of course), so that satisfies their need to believe they're somehow better at driving because their ego says they are.
Impatience is the number 1 thing I feel which leads to bad driving. As you said also I find it satisfying meeting them at the next traffic light or junction whilst I was driving within the limit
I find people driving far too slowly and cautiously for the conditions causes most cases of impatience. Drive on for God’s sake!

Impatience is everywhere unfortunately. I often have drivers overtake me (cycling) 50 yards or less from a red light, just to then stop and wait. Why? What did that actually achieve?? I'm just going to pass them and stop in the bike box anyway, so the whole thing was pointless. Well, that's if there's not a car or a handful of mopeds in there...

When I lived in the inner city part of Derby, I came to the conclusion it was a legal requirement to park a large van as close to every corner as possible.

@@PedroConejo1939 In Newark it's a legal requirement to park a flatbed Transit full of scrap metal at a 45 degree angle on the apex of every corner. Bonus points are awarded if it's parked across the full width of the footpath, forcing pedestrians into the road.

4:26 That is one positive about having no cycling infrastructure to speak of, you don't have to go skydiving or base jumping for adrenaline. Just get on your bicycle and zigzag through 2 ton metal boxes moving at 30mph.

You don't need cycling infrastructure, you just need idiots to stop pretending pushbikes should be on the road. They're human powered, they should be on footpaths. There's less danger for everyone involved then, the bikes represent less of a danger to the pedestrians on the paths than the cars do to the bikes.

Had a friend do something very similar to clip 10. We were at the front of the traffic lights and he was making a call with his bluetooth headset. When the person at the other end of the phone answered in his brain that meant "Go" and he drove head on in to two lanes of moving traffic. Somehow we got across the junction with no one getting hurt but he has never lived that down.
That it a very interesting psychological response.

I drive a Ford Ka; I lose count of the drivers who overtake me just because it's a small car and their ego can't handle being behind it. Usually I'm still immediately behind them 5-10 mins later.
I get this in my shonky old Peugeot Expert van. Recent incidents include being overtaken by an elderly driver in a Mitsubishi Carisma at a rate of about a millimeter a week, he then pulled back in far too soon before immediately slowing down.
C1 driver here, get it all the time. Its absolutely pointless.
Fiat Punto driver here, see the same thing so so often it's unreal. The only thing that baffles me more is when people in even tinier cars try and intimidate me- it's like all the world's angriest people drive Kia Picantos!
As an VW Up! driver I witness this problem all the time, as well as tailgating. Made worse now that everyone choosing to drive unnecessarily big SUV these days.
@@thecraigmachine69 I could literally be doing 75 in a 70 and someone would just have to over take me and get 1 car ahead, can't possible have a smaller vehicle being ahead of them.
6.35 the guy in front was at one point doing 28 in a 40 and he did not even get up to 40 in the clip. I can see the frustration of the driver behind .
So can I but you don’t make it worse by doing what the driver behind did. So what he’s going too slow. Slow down then.

He could slow down but 28 in a 40 can be classed as dangerous and you can argue a overtake to avoid danger. Your argument would have to be a good one in my opinion but you can win your case in situations like this. For example, undertaking on a motorway it is not illegal but doing it with no reason as to why can land you with a ticket for dangerous driving so make sure you have that excuse and evidence to back yourself up.

After 12 and a half years of driving in the UK I'm at the point where I'd rather walk! I swear the attitude of people has gotten worse over the years...
4:58 this actually happens quite a lot at protected turn filtered junctions where the lights for the oncoming traffic change to green with filter but the opposite side does not. People see the oncoming traffic and think that the lights have changed for them also, without actually checking the signal
I drive a rigid lorry for work and I see all sorts of maneuvers that are just stupid, all because people want to get ahead of a lorry and really they don't get very far ahead of me most of the time.
I had one this morning sitting at a set of traffics lights, one lane to turn left and one lane to go right, Im in the right lane with a car in front of me, a car come past me in the left lane but then turns right and I kid you not, 50 yards down the road wants to turn right again and has to stop at a red light. Totally pointless.
Thinking about getting a dash cam just to send Ashley footage of the things people do to get ahead of a lorry.
I don’t know if people have less patience these days. The standard of driving seems to be declining although the driving test is much harder than when I did it many years ago.
The test has tighten up, the law has tightened up, car design has tightened up, but the nuts on the steering wheel just keep getting looser.
@@PedroConejo1939 Once we pass our driving test, we are free to let bad habits drag our standards down. That is so poor. Making the test harder has no affect on those who passed in the pas who should be capable of driving much better.
I feel that elderly drivers should renew their driving test because alot has changed since they did their test.
@@steve00alt70 Not just the elderly. People can pick up bad habits quickly & things change occasionally. We are all supposed to know the highway code but few do because we never get re-tested on it. I think drivers in the 20s would find a re-test easier than many who have been driving for 20+ years.

Top marks to the guy who not only reacted to the cyclist at 05:33 but also stopped to check if they were okay. Too many people would just drive past shaking their heads and not even bother putting their window down .
It amazes me how people drive like the world will end if they're a few seconds late. If it's that crucial that you're not late, consider leaving earlier. Works every time. Also good for your blood pressure...
I was always told to be calm and go at the correct speed limit and just ignore impatient tailgaters let them endanger themselfs.
Yup, it's laughable when some chav in a beat up corsa is trying to bully you to get out of the way. I have a bigger car and am a sensible driver, you want to risk your life, fine, just don't take me with you, I won't be speeding up just so you can save 3 seconds.
It's tricky sometimes. Risk of getting rear ended by the plonker. I'd rather slow right down let them pass
@5:50 cam car performs a brake check at the speed limit change. Spot the speed drop, (given GPS lag it probably dropped even more) the stupid mirror ornament suddenly come into view and start swinging about wildly , and the front of the car behind dip down under braking as he reacts to it.

People need to have patience and understanding. I've had to drive through Sunday morning bicycle races along the main A-road between two towns. It's not fun, but drivers do need to show patience and also not tailgate other drivers who sit back for a safe opportunity to pass 3-6 cyclists who are either spread out or bunched up.
The van driver was unbeatable. I have heard the missus say she will make her own way, but this takes the prize.

from my perspective, in the car that pulled out from the T intersection, while the crossing car was not driving attentively enough to avoid the collision, the car that emerged, crossed the centre line, and therefore was the one in the wrong place.
Not to mention the red van parked on a corner, so the black Punto couldn't see the red car
I am a class 1 retired wagon driver of 40 years and my son and I travelled 40 miles today for a funeral he is a police pursuit driver with the police and we picked out drivers breaking laws left right and centre, as I was once an insurance driver assessor for my company these drivers would lose their license right away. We actually saw drivers because of the high temperatures driving with one hand out of their window if they would have had a front wheel blow out they would be dead especially at 65 miles per hour they don't realise the danger they are putting themselves in.

The last clip summed up how impatience doesn't really achieve extra progress rather only increases unnecessary risk.
Another of my pet hates - the rise and rise (apparently) of these new ‘Acrossabouts’, replacing the old ‘ROUNDabouts’! Taking my lead from Mulder and Scully (‘Trust No One’), I never assume that the person ahead and on the outside of me on a ‘Roundabout’ will, necessarily, go ‘round’ it. Word of warning though, don’t you dare assume that if someone does cut across in front of you in such situations, that this gives you the right to express your frustration in any way (LOL).

5:18 (cyclist OTB). This was caused by suddenly grabbing the front brake. Most cyclists know not to do this, but it does sometimes happen. The front brake is very powerful and needs to be brought on progressively initially - but it is VERY useful in stopping quickly, most stopping power comes from the front. Using them both is best. Countries that drive on the right have the brake levers swapped - and that can be a big problem until cyclists get used to it.
I can't help but wonder if the black ring or belt that the cyclist was carrying on the handlebar played some part in this mishap. Unfortunately the resolution is too low to judge.
did that some 30 years ago when a guy decided to wait until he was actually turning to indicate his turn. it's why I won't cycle without a helmet. it also may be related to my anger with people who don't indicate a turn.
@@cargy930 It looks like a cheap cable lock, and I agree it is a stupid place to put it, but I think the accident was more to do with them grabbing the front brake too hard and not hitting the rear brake, and flipping the bike over.

TBH, I've only seen it happen with carrier bags on handlebars anyway, so it wasn't one of my best ideas!!
2:38 unfortunately I believe that's a really dumb traffic game. Basically playing wheelie chicken with oncoming cars. Unfortunate when (especially younger) people don't take traffic seriously. Been seeing a lot more bad behavior now that summer's here. The heat might be getting to people's heads. 😋
Or the fact that the UK government is lifting restrictions on Monday and despite the rising cases everywhere except 2 places in the entire UK.
I sometimes see large groups of kids - lads - doing that, riding down both sides of the road, causing absolute chaos, holding everyone up and revelling in the power they exercise over everyone else.
Even though my driving days are over it's good to know that anyone watching these videos will become a better driver.
You can always tell a motorist also cycles by how patient and polite their overtakes are.
Had the same kind of thing with a cyclist this morning waited behind as there were 2 blind corners up ahead of him. Also I love ques as it often gives me a chance to see motorbikes go past.

I just don't get how that police driver could dare to issue tickets to other drivers for offences if that's how he/she drives. Utter hypocrisy
The police don't find anyone guilty, they can issue NIP etc which you can take to court, which is where any guilt is decided.

Impatient, bad drivers that don't take notice of speed limits or road signs unfortunately are all too common and the times you catch up with them at a set of lights or queue is often which proves how pointless it is.
So many people wanting to ‘get there’ and precious little thought at all as to how they are going to do it. No time for these fools.

Wonder if clip 9 was a failed synchro on the lights, I always check to the right at lights on roundabouts, more so since I found out they can get out of sequence

I have learnt on certain roads people have a belief they can see what coming and emerge relatively quickly, I know always even if I don’t see are car to expect one anyways, saved my life more than once!

First clip: I'd be interested to know how long John had been middle lane hogging when the clip starts at 0:12. Just time how long it was before he actually caught and overtook another vehicle.

6:00 the car slows from 32 to 27 entering a 40mph zone if you can’t confidently keep to the speed limit you shouldn’t be allowed to be on the road as you don’t have control of the vehicle. Undertaking is wrong but so is wasting people’s lives by not keeping to speed limits when 9/10 the speed limit could be more than it is.
Aaghh! Not undertaking. Were they on their way to a funeral. It's flippin' Overtaking (on the nearside, and that's almost always illegal -- and dangerous).
I assumed they were driving slowly BECAUSE they were being tailgated, which is one of the recommended responses.

#1 - would like to see the full clip. People undertake because lane hogging is so prevalent that people just have no time for any of it now.
I see people on the M25 4 lanes go straight from the slip road to lane 3 - what!! 🤯
The cammer wasn't lane hogging, he was overtaking. Albeit slowly bcos it's a hgv.
Mind you HGVs are limited to 58mph euro tir or 60mph and most of them drive on that most of the time and the speed limit would be 70mph and the cammer is catching up, the 70mph overall stopping distance is 315ft so the cammer didn't seem to be doing anything wrong.
Elsewhere in the comments, Jon comments that Lane 1 was a protected slip that had just joined the main carriageway. So there's no question of "lane hogging" going on, just the usual vehicles joining a new road and failing to adapt safely to the traffic already on it.
2:52 I live near that junction! It is marked as a roundabout but it is almost impossible to go around, admittedly the persons dash cam does make it look a lot wider space wise than it is… I am yet myself to see someone go around it coming from that direction 🤣
Hi Ashley, people cutting the corner on right turns into junctions (as in clip 16) is one of the things I find most frustrating on the road. I actually failed my first practice test when I was learning to drive doing just that, but it has stayed with me. Is there anything besides the obvious that we can do as drivers to be preventitive and defend against this, as it's often only at the last moment that the offending drivers can be seen, especially on closed junctions?

For your info, as a former Highways Design Engineer, I can advise that mini-roundabouts, both painted onto carriageway surfaces or forming a small domed structure, are, and have always been designed to be driven over, and it is perfectly legal to do so. Most such arrangements are in locations that form part of a local traffic control zone, and maybe part of a reduced speed zone, with additional speed reduction measures, such as road humps and or chicanes etc, and quite often are located in junctions where in the past RTA’s occurred frequently, and hence where installed as a traffic safety measure within a new road junction design…often in locations where driving around the mini-roundabout in itself is very tight, so driving over it was always an option… In the most part it’s probably easier to say that the mini-roundabout is there to enforce the road traffic rules of using a round about, giving way to the right etc and slowing slow moving traffic down to safety negotiate junctions… Hope this clarifies things for you…
Yes, they are designed to be driven over, but they are not installed to be driven over. They are instead to be driven around unless your vehicle is too large to go around. You have to make an attempt to go around them, you shouldn't just cut across.
That second clip is the A3 going towards London, coming up to the Ace of spades underpass, that junction is always a hot spot for cars to bunch up. The number of people that make sure others can't merge from that slip road is amazing. The lack of courtesy on the roads now is quite sad.

Clip 10 with the white Seat, there is something to trigger them, the oncoming traffic.
I don’t think it applies here but there is quite a modern junction near me that actually changes the light sequence (I’m guessing based on traffic waiting, and/or time of day) and it does seem to catch people out. Simple rule though, use the light to let you know when it’s your turn 🤣
The shortcut the builder's lorry took between the A3 and Kingston Bypass Is clearly visible on Google Streetview and aerial photos and dates back a few years since the clip is from before Sept 2020. Either more than one driver has used it or this builder has done it often. It emerges onto lane 2 of the A309.
so it was a purposeful off-road route. I had been wondering if it was a mechanical issue since he left the road so directly and abruptly.
Looked it up and there it was. Not only does it short circuit the traffic jam, it allowed the van to exit at the next junction which he couldn’t do if he stayed on the A3. There’s no east bound slip road.

9:37 Another place I recognise. That's Hilton, Cambs, with the car turning towards St Ives. I lived in nearby Hemingford Grey for many years. There is a 17C Grade II listed maze in Hilton, and the village is a little over 3 miles from a place called Duck End. The ducks were heading in that direction (honest).
Clip 17: That hill is called Ditchling Beacon, and I use it twice a day everyday, it runs from Ditchling to Brighton in east sussex, and it is a seriously dangerous winding road. The driver that overtook your viewer and the cyclists is very very lucky no one got killed there, it is insane to me what they did.
I don't think it's just impatience, a lot of bad driving is just sheer stupidity and there's so much of it about these days I think I've worn the save button out on my dash cam.
@ Ashley Neal - thinking about the standard of van driving generally ( not just the samples shown here) - do you think there should be mandatory training for anyone wishing to drive LCV's up to 3.5 tonnes? I'm not suggesting an entire driving category change like that for C1 - 7.5 tonners, maybe obligatory driver CPC with relevant modules to assess/improve driving ability ??
I am currently about halfway through to get my drivers license here in Denmark, and every single time I am out driving, people have a certain need to drive right up my ass even tho I drive what is the speed limit...
also on a certain very steep hill, everytime I have to start on that hill, I do panik a bit bcuz of me starting to roll back and when people are right up behind me with no space, I panic and stall. - I can assure that I would be able to do it, if people would give more space for me as a learner.

I drive along clip 12's road regularly and what you saw is a regular occurrence, it did used to be a dual carriageway but people are so impatient there, surprised the accident level is so low to be honest.
So scary some of these clips, especially when their impatience endangers innocent bystanders. I used to be guilty of being an impatient driver (nothing as bad as these mind you), but some near misses put things in perspective and now I think nothing is worth rushing for. And if it is, set off earlier so you don’t have to rush!

4:45 I've seen that happen quite often by those that check their phone at lights. They tune out for a moment and when they see a car go by in their periphery, they assume the light went green on their side and just set off.
Frustratingly I've been in the passenger seat of a driver that has done exactly that more than a few times 😕
I often wait for a bus near an entrance/exit to a shopping centre. And as I observe motorists emerging from the shopping centre there is always one who turning right suddenly sees a red light and blocks all other traffic emerging from the junction on green.
In some ways it is humorous to watch but highlights how terribly some people drive.
Of the 3 e's, driver education and retraining becomes a sad last. Mind you, the DVSA makes a pretty penny selling their wares. Unfortunately charities like Rospa and the I.A.M don't get much of a look in, despite the excellent safety messages they provide and promote.

We saw at the very start the vehicle ahead move into the middle lane and then to the outside lane predicting the vehicle in front was about to do the same.

It would be useful if you did a video where you consider the balance of moving from the middle lane to the left lane versus staying in the middle lane when the prevailing conditions are multiple lorries in lane one and heavy traffic in lanes 2 and 3. These conditions are typical of motorways in the UK. My view is it is safer to stay in the middle lane until there is a long clear space in lane1 because it is often difficult and stressful to get back out into lane 2 again because of the heavy flow of traffic in that lane. The Highway code is inadequate guidance in this situation.
Clip #17 is Ditchling Beacon Sussex. The hill is very long, very twisty, and popular with cyclists. Impatience and too close overtaking is common. I've seen more than a couple of cyclists clipped or forced in to the verge by cars overtaking in unsuitable locations.

one of the reason tesla onboard imaging and infotainment is good is because of the MIPS processor. This is related to the computers which gave us graphics for terminator 2 and dreamworks and N64. Silicon Graphics machines DNA kind of still lives on.

That's High Street (apparently the widest high street in England, I'm told) with parking in the centre as well as each side, effectively making it a dual carriageway.
The width and the slope present a few issues. There are no pedestrian crossings at all, so people cross like this ped all the time. The road is a 20mph zone because of the lack of proper crossing points, but some drivers just blast through regardless... there have been several near misses and a couple of injuries caused by drivers overtaking in this manner and either hitting or swerving around pedestrians...
I have to have a dig back about the mini roundabout thing, there are many of these that are positioned in the traffic flow that actually make driving around them totally impractical and even dangerous pushing you into other lanes if you went round them, you can clearly see in clip 6 that the road flow naturally takes you across where the markings would be and it is not a wide junction, this would have originally been a through road with a give way to the joining road, it's not so black and white as made out by yourself Ashley.
Doesn't matter what it *was*, it's now a roundabout with completely different "road flow". You don't drive to what was there before, you drive to what's there *now*.
I agree with u! I live near them, it’s practically impossible to go around it without going ridiculously slow and which encourages people to go out in front of u more 🙄🤦♂️ I don’t usually side with the cammer but it become the norm for almost everyone in the village
You probably aren’t old enough to remember the mini roundabout invention, designed purely to dictate priority and the was no requirement to go round them. Hence they popped up in many places it was virtually possible to go around them, ie, 4 way junctions on narrow streets. Chorley has plenty of them.
Sadly rule makers then decided the daftest law ever, you must go round it unless you can’t. Ever tried driving something 55 feet long? Worst possible example of this is the magic roundabout in Swindon. Totally impossible to use as required for anything long as it’s impossible to stop between them all to attempt to go round.
Totally agree. The double mini roundabout situated in Leyland (near preston) classically backs up up this statement as it splits into two lanes, left for left only, yet 'straight on' lane you're FORCED to drive over them anyway as theirs no room to accommodate those turning left only! 😂
I'm old enough to recall their introduction, and there has always been a requirement to go around them. I still have a Highway Code from when they were introduced, and it uses the same wording that is in use in today's version.
It's obvious if you think about it too: If they hadn't wanted people to go around, they would have simply created a new type of "Give Way to the Right" sign (and law), and wouldn't have needed any centre markings at all.
And it seems to be getting worse; too many people in a hurry, and not aware of what is going on around them and/or they simply don't care.
