Great video.Nate was an elite center (top 10 easily)but an unsung hero. Thanks to you for highlighting his career. It's always good to celebrate players like him because some basketball lovers tend to forget rebound and defense are pure gold!
Nice and informative video. I would like to add at 5:23, his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers was slightly more eventful than you state in your video. Nate Thurmond helped the franchise make their first playoff appearance in which they won a Game 7 against the Washington Bullets (a team which lost in the Finals the previous year). It is known as "the Miracle of Richfield". Also, he grew up in Akron, Ohio, so it was also a return to home for him.
Both Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell said in many an interview that as much fun as it was playing against each other, they considered Nate the Great the one player they _least_ liked playing against.
1st Quadruple Double in NBA history 18 rebounds in a Single Quarter vs Baltimore Bullets 7x All Star ⭐️ 5x All-Defense 1964 All-Rookie 50th Anniversary Team (1997) Played Center and Forward for the Warriors Bulls & Cavaliers No.42 retired by the Warriors & Cavs 15 points & 15 rebounds per game in his career
Nate the Great made the first official quadruple double in NBA history because the league were too lazy to add blocks before the 1973-74 season that became official.
Great video, fitting tribute to the man. Also, a little extra trivia. Nate is now recognised as one of the strongest players to ever play in the NBA. His strength was said to have been incredible.
Nate was a combination of Russell and Chamberlain. He could rebound AND score where Russell was only a rebounder and shot blocker. Nate is the only player to hold Wilt to 0 points in a game. Nate played Kareem very well. Yes, Nate is a forgotten player, but not by those who saw him play.
Keep in mind that Wilt did not attempt a shot in that game. It wasn't Nate's great defense (though he was a great defender); it was just Wilt going completely out of his way to try the lead the league in assists. The 76ers won that game against Nate's Warriors
J Pecci..hold on !!!!! I bet u most people on youtube never saw Nate play because they were not born...if you were you remember ABC Sunday game of the week "philly vs boston...great basketball..everyone played hard.....you also know the nba records for rebounds is held by wilt against boston......nate was one of the greatest of the greatest..i am a fan of all...but to play harder against boston than Wilt is a stretch.....now who is one of the hardest for Nate to guard????? Another fellow HOF..Zelmo Beaty...nate said the big Z would make that jumper 10-15 footer..Nate was a beautifully well dressed man....peace
One of the best defensive centers of the 1960s. Averaged 15 and 15 for his whole career. 7x All-Star and a Hall of Famer. All those accomplishments speak for themselves :)

He's not forgotten by people who saw him play. He was great.
True statement by you

1 of the All Time Greats!

I actually knew about Nate before watching this but not enough fans know about Thurm, freaking Legend
I saw him play...he was honored as a top 50 guy all time...thats accurate
Kareem Abdul Jabbar was asked, "who was the toughest player that you played against?" His answer was "Nate Thurmond."
Kareem said Nate was the 1st, Walton the 2nd guy who played him well without fouling very much.
All time gentlemen on top of it .

We never forgot him here in The City.
Nate Thurmond blocked the skyhook in the first game he played Kareem and held Kareem to Kareems season low of 15 points.
He played with wilt for 1 season, don’t make it seem that wilt played with another legend center

Kareem brought me here
And I'm glad he did :)
PRPLPRNCH 👍 so many legends buried by time
@@suttonsplash14 True brother, but hey, we can always remember them!
PRPLPRNCH hell ya brother! we carry them with us until we meet again
@@suttonsplash14 For sure. I'll have more videos in the future about the legends of the game so be sure to stick around ;)

russel was much more than just a rebounder and shot blocker but okay

@@ddenuci that is insane
Russell averaged 15pts a game for his career. Looks like a tie on pts, 22.5 rebounds a game career. 7.5 rebounds more per game.
@@73Trident
And russell wins the tiebreaker because he scored 4 PPG more in the playoffs.
Imagine if he played now
One of the truly dumb movies ever made in the NBA was trading Wilt to Philly. Can you imagine a team of Wilt, Nate and Barry?
Old Celt fan --> Nate played us harder than Wilt.

@@kenneth7826 Nate owned a BBQ joint in SF and would be there and talk with fans. Great player, rebounder, scorer, shot blocker.
