Philips forgot that the good parts of Joker were parts that were ripped off other films and all the memorable scenes in the film were improvised by Phoenix.
@@chasehedges6775 The sleeping in the refrigerator scene, the bathroom slow dance scene, and accidently shooting the gun in the apartment scene were all Phoenix.
The "shower scene" (sexual assault scene) was a terrible plot device, a terrible thing to put in the movie, and felt like an insult to the viewer. It is incredibly problematic in its presentation, how it affected "Arthur", and Todd Phillips whole thing about how "he was never the Joker" completely blew up in his face the second he decided that SA would be the device used to make "Arthur" feel remorse for his actions. Seriously, fuck this movie!!! With that being said, calling him Todd Howard made me laugh thank you for that.
Even in the first Phoenix character wasn't comic Joker this character was always a lonely depressing mentally ill dude. This Joker was never going to be a super villian or criminal mastermind this was the point of the sequel because Phillips felt some fans missed that point in the first. I tried to tell fans after seeing Joker 2019 that this character was not a villian he's not a predator he was always a victim even after becoming and calling himself Joker he still wasn't comic Joker he wasn't killing innocent people he was killing assholes and people that were not giving a shit about him. He was a victim not a victimizer like regular Joker basically the point of Joker 2 was the director trying to explain this to the audience because he felt they missed it in the first that Arthur is not a super criminal he was an always will be a loser.
This scene is made to show the Joker persona can no longer protect him anymore. Just because you put on a monster persona doesn't mean you can always fight back against the cold, dark, unforgiving reality. That's just life, this movie shows exactly how bitter and unforgiving real life is.
Imagine watching Transformers One on Wednesday then Watching this today. Night and fucking day reaction, I almost went to tickets to ask for a refund midway through
It feels like todd flat out hates the joker character. If i imagined someone doing a movie on a character they hate this is what I'd imagine. Joker must be his least favorite villain
It really feels like Todd Phillips tried to cater to people like me who didn't enjoy the first one that much, only to fall flat on his face and drive away fans of the first one, while still failing to win his critics over as the movie is an overstuffed mess.

It sucks that because first one was a masterpiece but the storyline of this one tries to ruin it. It seems like it lazily written and not well picturized at all
That's the thing with these Todd Phillips films he never wanted to make a Joker movie he doesn't care about the comics I tried to mention this to fans multiple times. Todd Phillips wanted to make dark sad dramas about a lonely abused victim who calls himself Joker. These movoes have little to nothing to do with the comic Joker or rhe comics in general beyond some nods. This is why this movie is pissing fans off so bad it was never meant to be an adaptation of the comics just a movie about a mentally unatable dude called Joker but he's not the Joker.
Thank you for this, I was hoping I was not the only one from the get-go thinking this. This is Arthur not Jack, this is an imposter joker... And it's pretty arrogant how they imply the real joker gets the idea from Arthur. But it's not a surprise that Arthur is not the real joker, he was never the real joker.

The fact that these movies lean on an unreliable narrator completely make any of these "supposed to" points you're making as an angry Batman fan, moot. It's not a memberberries movie. It's an artistic statement not even about an established Batman character. Chill. Like literally half of the first movie was a lie, his girlfriend and everything. This movie takes that even further, he's imagining musical numbers. It's like have you seen American Psycho? What can you tell me really happened in that movie? This movie isn't about a physical narrative, it's about perspective
I just want to put it on record that a cash grabby film that had no reason to get made is the same reason a lot of people were upset when the Acolyte show was also trash. Most people weren't racist, just really upset with the product. At least thats what I saw.
Shows aren't cash grabs. They exist to keep people paying for the subscription service which is where most of the money is made. I do agree most people weren't racist but there was the typical Star Wars racism that crops it's ugly head whenever a main character is black. Then, the echo chamber is used to amplify any moderate response to fuel outrage. I would say the one thing I thought was cringe response wise was that dumb ass music video she made, now that was tone deaf. Her responses after that were pretty sane. She thanked the people that enjoyed the show and talked about how it was an uphill battle
