Rogan is right, the movie was bad on purpose, the director and Joaquin didn't want to make it, they took 20M each, overblown the budget, kill the character and leave the greedy corporates with a joker for their cinematic universe, brilliant middle finger. The first movie did not need a sequel, everyone knew that, but the suits don't listen.
The director almost literally said it, for me they even ask chatgpt "what is the possible worst genre for a unnecessary joker sequel?" -Musical. This dudes did the same as the Wachowski with the 4th Matrix, but even harder. Amazing!

It was easy money, and a money laundering scheme. It even looks cheaper than the first one, and it had 4 times the budget.
Honestly, I kind of respect that kind of thing. The director of the remake of Psycho did the same thing with that movie. Maybe if more filmmakers intentionally tanked their own movies in this way, we'd have less unnecessary sequels and remakes. The big studios have to get the hint eventually.

Musical can be fantastic. If you want Musicals, go see them live. It's more impressive and immersive. Hollywood can't capture that on the big screen even when they aren't garbage.

That documentary "I'm still here" can be understood as performance art. Someone pushing the boundaries of a performance into real life. A lot of that documentary had real-life interactions with notable people who were all, as far as we are lead to believe, unknowingly part of the performance. So, their genuine reaction to the actor is part of the entire art piece whose direction came from Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix (I think). It's not for everyone. As far as I remember, the performance (the strange behavior of Joaquin) went beyond the Letterman episode. I believe it preceded it and went beyond that; I think it went on for months. The Letterman episode seemed like the capitulation of the performance because it was so public and strange (very cringe as people like to say now). Everyone seemed to be wondering, what is going on with this guy?

I don't think it's a case of them pivoting on the whole incel thing, I think it's far more of a case that Todd Philips (the director) and the returning writer, got so high on their own supply off the back of Academy Awards recognition that he thought he was an arthouse director, could get away with pretentious non-sense and would be hailed as a genius.
This is the same guy that gave us The Hangover trilogy, Starsky & Hutch, Old School and Road Trip...

I watched about 15 minutes and couldn't take anymore.
The thing is, it's not really even a musical. Majority of songs already existed with may be one or two original ones. Good musicals can show through their original songs character development, story progression, and even inspirational messages with a catchy beat. This sequel's songs were really just showing what went on in Arthur/Joker's head at certain moments that weren't very critical to the story and trying to capitalize on existing popular songs. Just pretend this sequel never existed and that only the first one does.

The main issue is that Joker 2 is such a huge departure from the first movie in a way that doesn't even make sense. The first movie doesn't put a particular emphasis on music. It would have been good as a stand-alone musical movie and advertised it as such. I actually like musicals and even I got sick of the musical numbers. Chicago the movie, for example, which is an actual musical, didn’t feature as many musical scenes, and when they did, it made sense. They didn't truly emphasize the switch from reality to fantasy. It just seemed random as fuck and with no meaning to it.
I can understand the theme of sensationalism and how we, the audience, care more about the villain, Joker, than we do about the person behind it. It's wild because that theme could have been explored so well in wildly different ways. We already empathized with Arthur and some of us poor bastards can even relate to him. The idea of Joker being a shared fantasy and how he doesn't really exist also could have been done so much better. However, they essentially made a full shit circle where the beginning mirrors the end and nothing really changes. Even Arthur's death was carried out lazily.
I wonder if they cast Lady Gaga as Lee first and then wrote the script. Btw, the only thing I could focus on while she was on screen was her lip filler and its blantant injection sites.
Re the idea of the director, Phillips, really not wanting to make a sequel - actually both he and Phoenix said their idea of a Joker musical came around the time Joker 1 wrapped. So Phillips has zero excuse of the studio making him.

I'm glad Tim expressed his views on Joker 2 as he was in the movie, actually I have a feeling that nobody noticed his little cameo in the film. Furthermore, the reason why Joker 2 failed because it's a sequel that was already unnecessary from a beginning and no one wanted.

It's really dumb if Todd Phillips made this sequel just to avoid incels who were fans of the first movie. Taxi Driver, which the first Joker was heavily inspired by, featured a mentally ill incel protagonist named Travis, even he was a little racist, but Martin Scorsese never made a sequel just to apologize to people, because he knew it was just a movie, just a fictional story. Travis was a mentally ill guy just like Arthur, and the movie was never intended to justify his actions.
Todd Phillips once said that the reason he decided to stop making comedies and make the first Joker was because of "woke culture", but if the real reason he was making Joker 2 is to apologize to mainstream media and avoid creating an incel fanbase, then this shows that he gone "woke" too. He didn't want to offend anyone just because of the first movie, he copped out. Pitty.

I loved the movie. They never wanted to make a sequel, they didn’t wasn’t to be in the DCEU. Take the names of the characters out of the movie. If you understand people with the Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental illness that combines symptoms of schizophrenia and a mood disorder, such as bipolar disorder or depression. My best friend is bipolar and he had illusions, he believed things happened that didn’t happen. Look at his imagination in the first movie. It makes sense. Is it a good Joker movie? No. Is it a good movie? I liked it because I understand what it was attempting to say.
