hes not completely wrong, when the miata ECU detects a lean condition, it just dumps fuel to attempt to keep it relatively within normal running condition
My 1999 Miata has 50,000 miles and for the last month I've had the following 3 codes and I'm wondering if they're all related somehow: - P0300 (Random misfire) - P0420 (catalyst system below threshold bank 1) - P0455 (EVAP large leak) The car gives off a very strong gas smell, and on 3 occasions it has started up rough, the CEL started blinking, and then after a few seconds it corrected itself. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Did you ever figure out what was causing your CELs? I have a p0455 code I can’t get rid of. I just replaced the purge valve and don’t have the money for a smoke test
im currently trying to diagnose a gas smell in the cabin of my wifes 99 miata, so was just curious if were u smelling any gas fumes because of the bad purge valve? thanx
Overfilling the gas tank and a bad gas tank seal will mostly likely be the cause of fumes. Also, on the 99’s the charcoal canisters were known for getting filled up with gas and going bad.
I had a similar issue where there was a pretty good amount of fumes that I could smell on my 99 Miata as well, what happened to me was that that filler hoses connecting to the main tank were kinda letting some gas through it leaking it because of some sort of build up around it when I would fill it full. Check to see if those hoses are leaking anything and just clean them out!! Hopefully it helps
thanks, needed this video to confirm that this is the purge valve - I'm deleting it all.
Any check engine light on after the delete? We’re you having issues filling at the gas pump before the delete? Thx!
Too lean would be not enough fuel, too rich would be too much fuel.

Your EVAP canister could be full of fuel

Thanks! Good vid!
what if the tubes ar stuck
This has nothing to do with fuel consumption...
